Z3 Delete key issue?

After a recent dictionary update that simply wouldn't go away until I'd agreed to down load it, now when I've typing a text, email, message or pretty much anything, if I delete words or use the x key at all it starts to add random.letters full stops, remove words and generally **bleep** me right off and makes any typing a nightmare!!
I've tried clearing the data, all that did was turn my key board to Chinese and the problem still persists.
Please, before I smash the phone can someone help???

if that was my phone I would try this
remove the film protector and check again, also if you use the keyboard rotate the phone on multiple directions to see if you experience the same issue with that letter. try
holding the phone on portrait then rotate it landscape to the left then rotate landscape to the right

I'm having issues with my delete key (the one that is supposed to go backwards), instead it is doing a forward delete. I've changed the setting in the Terminal and the delete sends backspace box is checked.
Any ideas why it is doing this?

  • Delete key + Keyboard issue

Hey, I have a MacBook from mid 2007 that I use for Boot Camp. I was wondering if there was any way to have some key that would be the equivalent of the delete key on Windows (I am running XP).
Additionally, on XP, for whatever reason it likes to go to the French keyboard, which is annoying since I will go for a "?" and get a capital "é". Anyone know what to do?

Sounds like you have a French keyboard selected. In Control Panel select the Regional and Language Options. Now click on the Languages tab and select the Details box. Here you can control which keyboards are available under Installed Services.
If you poke around a bit you will be able to address the French keyboard issue.

  • Text won't stop deleting, delete key appears to get "stuck"

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, I have never used the support forums for any of the multitude of problems I have had with my Mac, but this one is severe and odd enough that I couldn't even find anyone else discussing it (although I'm sure someone is, but I tried many search key combinations on Google and only found unrelated things), so I decided to at least get it documented.
I have had an issue that has happened at least 3 times I can remember (I am fairly certain it has happened more, closer to 7-8, those are just the times I am 100% confident about), although very spaced apart and infrequent, where my delete/backspace key seems to get "stuck". However, at least one time I can verify that I never even hit the key. Whatever text I currently have open immediately starts deleting at lightspeed, and I can do nothing to stop it. None of the other keys on my keyboard work, and though my mouse works, if I click somewhere else, it starts deleting the text there. When I force it to go to another window where there isn't an open text box, I get the general Mac error sound, and it repeats non-stop, and faster than I've ever heard it. I have to do a hard shut-down, although once it led to a kernal panic. When I have stopped whatever is happening before it panics though, when I restart, I don't receive any kind of error message, nor the message about OS X not having been shut down properly.
Every single time it has happened when I was typing something that couldn't be saved, like a message on a forum, a private message on a site or an IM chat window. Sometimes I lost a half hour's worth of work or more.
The first time it happened, I honestly thought someone had managed to hack into my computer, but another time I was using a physical modem and Airport was turned off, and when I ripped out the cord, it didn't stop.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007, running the most recent version of Tiger. I haven't had the money to upgrade. All security updates are up-to-date, with one exception: I have not upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes.
Honestly, I currently am having and have been having a bunch of other severe issues with my Mac, so troubleshooting will be quite difficult as it's not at all impossible it's a result of one of my other problems. I also currently am dealing with some health problems that make me unable to try to find the root of the problem, specifically I have a problem with my hand and wrist that makes typing very difficult.
If someone does recognize this issue and already knows why it might be happening, I'd appreciate the help. I'd also appreciate anyone letting me know how I can prevent it OR what to do when it begins and how to stop it. But I probably will be unable to go through a typical troubleshooting rundown.
As I said, I just wanted this documented, and I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. I have never experienced an issue like this with any of my past computers, including Macs and PCs. I do know however that the key is NOT physically getting stuck - as in getting lodged down and continuing to be pressed. There is at least 1 time I can verify I never even hit the key (I wasn't typing anything at the time). I am fairly sure the problem is entirely unrelated to the actual delete key itself.
I'll describe the symptoms one more time:
At a random time, with no discernible warning, text contained in whatever text box I have open begins deleting itself. Several paragraphs disappear in a matter of seconds.
Pressing escape or any other key on the keyboard does nothing. If I click to another area in the text, it will immediately begin deleting wherever I have placed the cursor. If I go to another window with text that can be edited, it begins deleting there. It does not delete in more than one place simultaneously.
If I bring another window without any kind of "deletable" text to the front, one of the general Mac error sounds (I'm not sure which one it is) starts happening and repeats without stopping at a rate that could induce a seizure. To stop it all, the only thing I have found can be done is a hard shut-down. Another time it continued to end in a kernal panic. I wish I had the details of the error, but it was so long ago and I have no idea which panic is the right one in the logs.
I have no way of knowing what programs were running at the time, as obviously that's not something I'm able to pay attention to when it happens, and it has happened so randomly and infrequently it's nothing I've been able to document. Since I have to restart to make it stop, I've then lost that info and I have no time to try to write it down or something beforehand.
I have not had any similar issues that I know of (for instance, for the "g" key keeps repeating and won't stop typing "g's") and I've never experienced this on any past computer.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
If you aren't able to offer advice but have had this issue yourself, PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to find anyone who has experienced this particular problem.

"Cleaning the keyboard is the first step in troubleshooting sticky/stuck keys."
Okay, I guess I misunderstood, although I am still confused. You're saying that since the other user did an extensive clean of their keyboard and this did not solve the problem, it is "most likely" a hardware problem, correct? Wouldn't a thorough cleaning without any results show that it's probably not physically related to the keyboard?
"The "delete" key may be defective or the cover you are using somehow is making the key stick. If you have ruled out the latter and everything else, your only other alternative is to take the MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will check out your keyboard (free) to confirm if you are having a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare or ProCare, the repairs will be free. If not.................."
Well, I had just said in my most recent post that it has now happened with other keys, and in my initial post that it happened at times when my hands were nowhere near the keyboard. It is not a defective delete key and the cover is not making the keys stick - it doesn't adhere to them and does not have any sticky substance on it of any kind. I am an experienced computer user, and I know my computer very well. While I am not a psychic that can always know what is causing a problem, I am able to discern with much accuracy what is NOT causing it.
Also, I have significant health issues so getting to an Apple store would be a huge challenge for me. And although I have AppleCare any repairs won't be free. Due to some small physical damage my laptop obtained a few years ago, I have been completely refused almost all service that I paid over $300 for, even though the damage is completely superficial. After fighting this, I was told they WOULD repair my computer, however, they would also repair the physical damage despite my insisting NOT to; I had no choice in the matter and the cost would be a minimum of $1,500 (I also would not be informed the exact price until after and my credit card would be charged without my knowledge - I had to give them my credit card number and sign away their right to make any charges and when I requested being contacted before they charged me for the repairs I didn't want done, I was told they did not do that). My family is struggling to pay for my $5 medications.
When my logic board died (that same issue that affected thousands of computer users), I had to print out Apple's report from their site, which stated that they would replace and repair them free of charge to ANY Mac owner with a computer that met certain qualifications (which mine did). When it happened, completely out of nowhere, I knew immediately that was the problem, yet still had to go through the insulting and idiotic "Is your computer plugged in?" list of things and a customer WITH AppleCare was being refused a service they'd offered to people WITHOUT AppleCare, for a known manufacturing defect that has occurred widely in nearly every brand of computer made.

  • Space Bar & Delete Key Not Functioning Properly in Safari/Chrome

I have Googled extensively on this problem to no avail. I'm hoping the Apple Community faithful can help.
I recently had the logic board on my work Mac Pro crash, and updated to a new Mac Pro (Snow Leo). The local Apple Store was of course able to tranfer all my settings/info to the new machine, and so far everything is humming right along with no issues...except for something VERY strange. Ever since getting the new Mac Pro, typing in Safari and Chrome is very screwed up...as far as I can tell only the spacebar and delete key functions. In Safari, hitting the spacebar while typing functions like hitting the spacebar on a webpage, jumping down on the page. The delete key functions like I'm hitting the back button in the browser. This appears to be happening in Chrome as well, but it can't handle it at all and crashes instantly upon hitting either of those keys. Strange thing is, Firefox is working perfectly.
I have deleted preference files and repaired permissions and neither of those helped. I'm lost here guys. Anyone have any insight?
    Thanks as always,
    Jason

Sorry to hear, I would not have let anyone transfer settings.
    Easy to do yourself.
I would have kept the old system.
And then you would be using a clean vanilla OS.
So what I would jdo now is a clean install on one of your hard drifves and see if that rules out issues.
USB cables, extensions, hubs, keybaord is a hub also, can all do mischief, even kernel panic.
Permissions? No. Repair the hard drive, Yes, maybe even with something more robust than Apple First Aid.
And not just prefs, a lot of issues reside with application cacvhe files and folders.
Cloning a system, repair8ing, and booting is good maintenance.
A clean install and update should take under an houjr.
While new Mac Pro should run 10.6.8, it is possible that it would have come or shipped with Lion at this point.

  • My delete key is not working properly

    I have a late 2010 MacBook Air that is running OS X 10.9.3 .
Lately I have noticed that my delete key is now working as a backspace key.
This is super annoying and I have tried googling the problem, but I haven't found a solution yet.
Also, my top row of keys (volume, brightness, etc,) are not working unless I hold down the fn key.
    Please help me fix this!

    Hello unicornisland01,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For the issue that you cannot use your function keys without holding the Fn key on the keyboard, please disable the option in your Keyboard system preferences to "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys."

  • Windows 8 Key Issue

Here's my problem.  Windows 8 came preinstalled on my computer; however, I accidently deleted the Windows 8 key from the bios and now Windows keeps asking me to enter the correct key.  Since there is no longer a sticker with the key included with the computer I have no way of finding the key.  Does HP keep a record of the keys tagged to the serial number?  Or am I just out of luck?
I called HP Support about this and they told me to get the key off the CDs which were included with the computer.  When I told him there were no CDs, he said I had bought a used computer mascarading as new because all of their computers ship with Windows CDs.  When I disputed this he said that Microsoft could solve the issue for me.  Microsoft said that HP could solve it.  Can anyone help me?  I'd rather not spend money on buying Windows 8
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

HP does not retain records of the keys issued .  HP also does not ship Windows CD's with the computers unless they were specifically ordered.  If you have somehow deleted the key then you are out of luck, sorry.

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

  • Strange items deletion in various applications as if the Delete key being pressed.

I work with a T420 laptop docked in a docking station.
The following strange phenomenon is happaning:
Occasionally, Items are being deleted or attempt to be deleted in various applications as if the Delete key is being pressed constantly.
    Examples:
    1. The Outlook window is open, left mouse click on the Inbox folder results in all emails being deleted.
    2. Explorer window is open, left mouse click on one of the files or folder results in attemp to delete the file or folder. Clicking 'NO' results in an endless loop of attempt to delete.
    3. Google window is open (IE), clicking on one of the letters in the search box, results in this letter being deleted.
    4. Open Task manager, results in attempt to delete the first task in row.
When docked out the laptop from its station, this strange behavior stopped.
Needles to say, that I replaced the external keyboard and the docking station itself, but it did not help.
HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED SUCH A PROBLEM? What do I do?!

I am having a similar issue that I can consistently recreate. I was finding that emails were "randomly" getting deleted from various folders. It was driving me crazy! I keep my Outlook inbox fairly well organized in that I keep emails in there if they require further action. I don't keep my Deleted folder organized however, so I was getting chunks of emails going from my Inbox to my Deleted items folder and it became very difficult to find all of the deleted emails that I still needed to action..... Here is how I can recreate this:
Laptop is off of the docking station and open. Outlook has focus with an email highlighted in my inbox. I close the lid and place the laptop onto the docking station. The email that had focus is now in the deleted folder. Again, I can recreate this virtually every time. Please help!

  • Can't delete messages using delete key in Outlook 2007

After upgrading to Exchange 2010, we are seeing an intermittent problem where users in Outlook 2007 can't delete messages from their inbox using the delete key.  Opening the message and clicking delete from there will delete it from the inbox.
They can also drag the messages from the inbox to deleted items.
The issue comes and goes during the day.  One minute delete will work and then it won't and then it will again.
    Thanks,
    Crystal

    Hi Crystal,
How many uses have the issue?
Did you check the Outlook add-in or Anti-Virus application?
Please check whether there is any error/warning event in the Event Viewer.
Please recreate the Outlook profile for user if possible.
Please try to run the cmdlet New-MailboxRepairRequest.

  • ITunes 10.4 and Delete Key

Has anyone noticed this? Before iTunes 10.4 you were able to just highlight an artist or album under the column browser and press delete and it would delete it. It seems not to work now. Am I the only one that has this issue? Doesn't seem to work under library or any of my devices.

I have also noticed this.  Before, the delete key could be used to remove an artist or album from a playlist by selecting it from the browser window.  This no longer works, and the menu item Edit >> Delete must be used.  In addition, cmd-Delete would delete the artist or album from the playlist and library, with the option to move the tracks to the trash.  This was an easy way to manage playlist content, and it is not clear why this function was removed.  I would really like to get this back.

  • Keyboard "Delete" Key

Hi eveyone, how are all of you? I have a little problem. I am using Keyboard event to call a function i-e, when user press the Delete key, the selected object will be deleted. Now the problem is that when I press only Delete key, nothing happens but if I press "TAB+Delete", it works 100% fine.
If am using condition "if(event.keyCode == 46)". I want it to work on pressing "Delete" key instead of "Tab+Delete".
If anyone of you has any idea about this issue, please let me know .... I'll be really really thankfull to you.
    Thanks ...

    Hi there,
This is quoted from here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=events_11.html
A common way to handle global key presses is to create a listener for the KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN or KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP
event on the application. Listeners on the application container are
triggered every time a key is pressed, regardless of where the focus is
(as long as the focus is in the application on not in the browser
controls or outside of the browser). Inside the handler, you can
examine the key code or the character code using the charCode and keyCode properties of the KeyboardEvent class.
It works when you press TAB because TAB essentially gets a child from the display list and focuses on it. Once your application/object has focus ( because you pressed TAB ) the keyboard listener can react. If your application is out of focus then it won't react to any keyboard events.
In case your object is selected and your application has focus and it's still not reacting then you could try using event.preventDefault(); to prevent default behavior; if that's not helping either then you need to recheck your code because the problem is in your code somewhere.
    With best regards,
    Barna Biro

  • Delete key frequently stops working in Pages

I've had Pages on this Mac for a long time, and from the beginning this problem has occured. It was just rare enough for me to not seek help on the issue, but today I'm going through a long document that requrest many deletions, and now I have noticed this is a regular, repeating, annoyingly frequen occurence:
suddenly my delete key simply will not register for Pages. I have to click on a different active application to "clear its brain", and then it starts working again for a time. But I will delete several things in a row, no problem, then bammo, it's like the key is broken and will not register itself as being pressed, but then it always clears itself and wash, rinse, repeat.
Thanks for your time. Please help!

There are two delete keys on the Mac keyboard. One is forward delete (next to the "end" key) and the other one is backwards delete next to the +/= key.
The forward delete key is supposed to delete the next character and the backward delete the previous character.

  • Delete Key and Space Bar Stopped Working

I have an older MacPro  - the MacPro 1,1 model.
Hadn't used it in a while a - when I set it up again the keyboard's Delete key and SpaceBar won't work.
    Here is the topline:
    1. I left the power cord in the office and used a PC one. Not sure if this could be the cause.
    2. I upgraded to 10.6.8 the most current. Didn't help.
    3. Reset the PRAM - Didn't Help.
    4. Checked the Keyboard Viewer - Not sure what that does other than to confirm something is happening.
If I had to guess - and based on other forums I have looked at - it will likely be a power issue.
How that affects these keys - I have no idea.
    I will test this next.
But if anyone has experienced this would love to hear if you solved it.
    Thanks,
    -jc

    Thanks Grant,
    appreciate the info.
I did try that, and switching the power cord (Which was a long shot) and still not luck.
    Pretty facinating issue.
I am going ot continue to look through the forums and see if I find anything.
    Thanks again!
If anyone else has had this issue with an older MacPro - I would love ot hear it.
