Z570 and Windows 8...Few questions/problems

Recently I have installed Windows 8 in my Z570 laptop. At right side bottom it used to notification when ever I press Caps lock,Num lock,Turn off Touchpad etc etc but now it is not showing.Tried installing One Key Recovery,One Key Theater drivers (Which I got with laptop...They didn't work may be because they are not compatible with win 8 ) they didn't work. Can any one give link to this drivers

"Windows 8 is working fine on Z570 only the Lenovo Energy Management for WIndows 8 has a bug"
Same here.  I am dual booting Windows 7 & 8.  Windows 8 Energy Management is buggy, but somewhat functional.  Hopefully Lenovo will resolve the issue, but as each day passes it is beginning to seem less hopeful.

  • Both xp and windows 7 have video problems with my VGA connection using TV

both xp and windows 7 have video problems with my VGA connection using TV as my monitor when it gets to starting up windows no matter what version it will not I have let my mac on all night and still says starting windows or the windows 7 logo and nothing else will happen also when I use a 3rd patty software like peraills or other it works like a charm how to fix it?

To map the drive on your computer click on Start - RUN - type "\\192.168.1.1" and click ok... When prompted for Username and Password type "admin" and click ok... Now you will be able to see the folder which you have shared on  your router, right click on it and select "Map network drive" and click on finish.
Now it will map the drive on your computer and you should be able to transfer the file from your computer to the USB drive.

  • New to IPhone and have a few Questions?

To start I want to say that I am a long time (25+ years) veteran of technology but am new the the IPhone. My IPhone is not Jailbroken and would like to keep it that way if I can. Allthgouh I did jailbrake it with blackra1n for about 30mins then I did a factory reload and let it be as it started acting stupid once I started installing apps from unofficial sources.;) Im a x86 nerd and NOT a MAC guy. I haven't sat down at a MAC/Apple in about 15/20 years.
I just got my first IPhone 3Gs/16GB. (Coming from a BlackBerry Curve 8310) the other day and although it is taking some time getting used to, I think I will like it more then I do once I get used to it.
Anyhow I have a few questions to start off with. I did some googleing already but just want to make sure I understand a few things.
All though I did the BlackRa1n jail break thing and installed a few apps then it locked up and failed to turn on or something so I did the whole reload from itunes and now its all good. Anyhow.....
1.) It appears as if one can not run a program from the home sreen and have it run in the background while doing other things? Take the many SIP Clients I have played with in the last 48 hours. Once I open the SIP Client and connect if I hit the physical button below the screen the program closes, thus the sip client no longer works. Pretty much most if not all apps iv installed from the App Store act like this. Is this the case? Does the IPhone not mutitask at all or verywell?
2.) Are there any SIP Clients that work over 3G? All the ones iv tried say they are for WIFI only. The SIP Clients work fine when on WIFI. It sounds like this is Apples way of controlling/monopolizing the voice/data/voip aspect of the platform/device. Im sure they would lose a lot of money if everyone did what I am trying to do.Just my opinion.
3.) Maybe I play with it to much but **** the battery dies fast. Is there anyway to optimize the battery at all other then for me not to use it as much?
4.) How can I remote lock it if I lose it or it gets stolen? I read somewhere this could be done.
5.) Are there any other Shells/HomeScreens/Themes that can replace the standard 4x4x4 row icons?
6.) The speaker phone (when on a call) seems kinda low even when turned all the way up. Is there any way to make it louder?
7.) I am using the built in VPN client to connect to my works PPTP Windows 2003 VPN server but the client randomly disconnects through out the day. Is there any way to have some type of keep alive set or are there any other VPN Clients that I can use?
Sorry for all this just thought I would ask for feedback.
Many thanks for any help anyone can provide,

1.) It appears as if one can not run a program from the home sreen and have it run in the background while doing other things? Does the IPhone not mutitask at all or verywell?
The iPhone SDK does not permit ANY 3rd party apps from running in the background or multitasking. It does provide for push notifications which can simulate certain background activity in terms of receiving external notifications while the app is actually closed. This works reasonably well with IM apps, news, sports, weather, travel updates and some peer-to-peer games.
2.) Are there any SIP Clients that work over 3G? All the ones iv tried say they are for WIFI only.
Just how would the SIP server connect to the cell carrier 3G network? Do you know of ANY that do??
3.) Maybe I play with it to much but **** the battery dies fast. Is there anyway to optimize the battery at all other then for me not to use it as much?
3G voice and data connections are culprits. Avoid email push and frequent fetching. See this Apple article for detailed suggestions.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
4.) How can I remote lock it if I lose it or it gets stolen? I read somewhere this could be done.
MobileMe Find My iPhone will locate, set a passcode lock and optionally wipe all data from your iPhone. You have to be a MobileMe subscriber.
5.) Are there any other Shells/HomeScreens/Themes that can replace the standard 4x4x4 row icons?
No. Apple does not permit this.
6.) The speaker phone (when on a call) seems kinda low even when turned all the way up. Is there any way to make it louder?
You can troubleshoot your iPhone as described in the User Guide - restart, reset, reset settings, restore. Or, get hearing aids

  • Group Policy and Windows 8.1 questions

I have a few group policy questions. Thanks in advance for taking a look.
I’ve downloaded the Win 8.1/Server 2012 ADMX files. They look to  be the same file names as the Win 7 ADMX files. Can I copy them into the  PolicyDefinitions folder and still be able create GPOs for either win 7 or Win  8?
If we use a windows 8.1 client with the GPO mmc to create the GPOs (instead of putting the ADMX files on the servers), will the GPO built from the win 8.1 client apply correctly even though its coming down from a DC that doesn’t have those ADMX files?
Does it make a difference if the win 8.1 client we use to create/edit the GPOs is x64 or x86?
We recently needed to add in an admx file for Lync 2013. I put the lync.admx file in the PolicyDefinitions folder on one DC. If we build the GPO from that server, when it replicates out to all the other DCs, does it matter that they don’t have that particular
    ADMX file for lync?
How do we organize and structure our ADMX files wherever they end up so that we know which sets are for which operating system? Should we be thinking about deleting the Win 7 ADMX files when the point comes in the future that we are using only Windows 8
    and Windows 9?
We are at AD functional level 2003. Do we need to go up in level for any of this to work?

Yes. Simply overwrite and you'll be fine.

Yes. GPO processing doesn't need ADMX, only GPO editing needs them.

    No.

If you have a central store for your ADMX, it will automatically
replicate through all DCs. If not, "2." applies anyway.

If you use a central store, update it as required. If not, do nothing
and use a client with the OS version you want to target.
    >  6. We are at AD functional level 2003. Do we need to go up in level for

AD level doesn't matter in any aspect. Schema version matters (Bitlocker
and Wireless, eg...), but you can update the Schema easily to 2012 and
have your DCs still run Server 2003.

  • Totally new to external hard drives and have a few questions

Since beginning my search for an external hard drive this morning I have learned that I know very little about this subject. I really have very little knowledge of all the computer lingo used when looking at these devices. I have a few questions regarding this, if someone could help me.
    1. Are all external hard drives compatible with my mac?
    2. Do I need time machine if I have an external hard drive?
    3. I have two PCs in addition to my mac. Can I use the same external hard drive for all three or would I need a separate one?
    Thanks for helping!

Use a Firewire not a USB drive.
I have had many reliability issues, and compatibility issues with USB over the years (starting with the original iMac), right up to the PowerMac G5 and Mac Pro - devices not working properly with hubs, needing to be plugged directly into ports on the computer (even though there aren't enough), etc, etc.
For me Firewire devices cause fewer of these sorts of problems.
Firewire is "isochronous", basically meaning that you can pump "clocked" data though it in real time. USB works more like TCPIP, with the data chopped up into packets and later reassembled. (Thus, at a minimum, you have latency, that is, the wait for the data to be "put back together".) Second, the Firewire protocol allows more direct address to memory (including mass storage) with minimal intervention of the CPU.
No collisions, no glitches. Firewire is rock-solid.

  • Just got a Macbook and have a few questions

Ok, so I just got my Macbook laptop today and because I have never owned a Mac product i just had a few questions
First off, is it safe to be plugged into the internet right off the bat or do I need to go out and buy some antivirus software? i have heard from some people that macs have built in antivirus and that they are also just in general less likely to get a virus then your average pc.
also just wondering, when i play a cd the disk reader/laser? whatever you would want to call it makes alot more noise then i expected it to. i didnt know if that was normal or not, and just wanted some opinions from other macbook users. thanks!!

On these forums, just about anyone you ask will say that there is no reason to get antivirus software. Most mac users don't have any installed. It's not viruses on the mac you really need to be worried about; it's stupid stuff like phishing or scams - things that don't have anything to do with the operating system - that you just have to watch out for. You'll be fine without antivirus software. The thing I really liked about my mac (windows user all my life; switched 6 months ago, haven't regretted it) is that instead of worrying about viruses and keeping my anti-virus/spyware software always up to date, I was just able to start using my mac, right out of the box.
They do make antivirus software for macs. If you really are that worried about it, go to:
    http://www.clamxav.com/
The ironic thing is that it checks for windows viruses (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you don't pass them on. A windows virus won't have any effect on your mac.
Surf the net. Be productive. Stop worrying. Have fun. Welcome to Apple.
    ...not a bad little slogan
EDIT - wow, a million people posted while I was writing this reply. meh.

  • Photoshop CC2014 and Windows 8 - click "drag" problem

    Hey there!
So, I have recently started using the latest version of Photoshop CC2014 under windows 8.1 and I'm having this weird problem.
I'm using a Cintiq 24HD touch with latest drivers, and touch disabled. I have also disable any kind of click and hold windows has - for tablets and for touch input.
Cursor Drag problem in Photoshop CC2014 - YouTube
Still, when I try to make fine adjustments on sliders, I click and the slider simply does not move. This does not happen every click, but it happens often enough to be annoying as hell. It is happening everywhere, from panels to liquify window, to using the hand tool to navigate the image, and not only in sliders! Trying to make fine adjustments in liquify with your brushstroke jumping around is not fun.
I'm not sure what and where the problem is, but this simply does not happen in any other application (Photoshop CC; Sketchbook Pro, Paintstorm Studio, Krita).
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks in advance,

I have been using Photoshop on windows for more then 20 years on windows. Windows 95, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 7.  I never installed Windows ME, Windows Vista or Windows 8.  I have never seen any version of Photoshop change a displays brightness or even the image color when scaling or going from  float to tab to single image with PS UI to full screen.  However I hardly ever use Photoshop in full screen mode.
At different zoom views image may seem like the color change because of the scale of the image or the portion of the image that is on screen or the color of the border around the image.

  • Overwhelmed... Just received my Y2P and have a few questions

Right out of the box and when I first turned it on, I had to provide them with my microsoft account in  order to complete the initial boot. WHY?!?!? Is there a way to avoid this?
Chrome - the tabs and address bar are TINY, how do I change it?
Each window opened on Chrome opens up at a 100% resolution but my goodness, font is so small. I have to increase the resolution to 200%
What happened to the taskbar on the desktop to switch between tabs and windows?!
I realize there is some sort of taskbarish thing on the left side but it's not the same. I have been having difficulties with that "taskbar" to respond at the first swipe with the pointer. Closing/signing-off apps is a new adventure as there are no Xs on the upper right hand corner. UGH!
Switching to the desktop is no easy feat. Don't know where to find the Control Panel.
I feel this laptop has a huge learning curve and I feel overwhelmed. HELP!!!
With the issues reported and the learning curve involed, I feel I should just move to the macbook air.... sigh!

It's evil. You have to click the "Create a new account" link and then at the bottom of the form for creating an MSN account is a little link that says "Sign in without a Microsoft account" and that will then let you create a basic local account with a username and password and no Microsoft MSN online rubbish.
The "tiny fonts and stuff" issue has been much discussed here. You can change the Windows display scaling to make everything bigger (though some applicaitons still have issues with this) or you can run the display at a lower resolution so that everything is naturally bigger. There are a number of threads on this topic.
Everything else is just standard "Windows 8 is evil how do I get it to behave like old windows??" complaints that everyone has  Apparently it IS possible to eventually get used to the Win 8 way of things but boy, is it frustrating at the start. One tip is that from the start screen you can just start typing and it will bring up the apps page and search box and most of everything is still there that you're familliar with (control panel etc.) you just have to search to find it.
There are inexpensive 3rd party utilities (from Stardock etc.) that give you back an old style Start button menu, and in 8.1 you can configure it to boot to the desktop instad of the Metro UI if you choose.

  • Few questions/problems on Sol9-x86

1st, a simple one(!?), i would to set option -v (verbose) as default for (b)oot. I know there's a file for that, but i just can't find it!!
2nd, sometimes the command "quota" takes a long time to finish (time-out??). Even though i haven't set up any disk quota!! This somehow creates a big problem when normal users take much longer time to login since bourne shell runs "quota" during shell initialisation. Of course i can just comment it out in /etc/profile, but is there a more pro solution!!? After all, it doesn't always happen, just often!!
3rd, During boot (after PROM), the harddisk light will keep on forever (not blinking).
    "b -v" messages:-

The last four warning messages are also displayed when no verbose output...
So, is this a problem with the harddisk or bus or just settings??
thanks for at least reading it... :p

    eeprom boot-args=-v
Btw. the default boot file can be changed by setting
    the "boot-file" property, e.g.:
    eeprom boot-file=kadbthx :) and can u tell me where's the default boot-file...
2nd, sometimes the command "quota" takes a long timeto finish (time-out??).
Do you have IPv6 enabled? I don't remember the exact
details, but last I had this problem there was some
issue with the rlogin target machine trying IPv6
rpc.rquotad protocol to the user's home directory NFS
server and this times out and eventually falls back to IPv4
protocol. Well, as a matter of fact, i didn't eve install IPv6 protocol!! Does that make it worst!!?
The usual case is just simple WindowsOS telnet to Solaris!!
    >
3rd, During boot (after PROM), the harddisk lightwill keep on forever (not blinking).
    "b -v" messages:-
I guess if you power-cycle the machine it does not
timeout. And if you disable ATA DMA
("eeprom ata-dma-enabled=0"), then the reboot does not
    hang any more.
    Try the "ata-revert-to-defaults" or
    "revert-<diskmodel>" ata.conf options. See man
ata(7D).I have tried the reverts-to-defaults=0 approach, but it doesn't work!!
If ATA-DMA is disabled, wouldn't that makes the system slower?? And why would that cause problem anyway?? What about the system takes a long time to reboot with "shutdown -i 6"!!?
    thank you :)

  • Iconia 700P and Windows 10 Technical Preview Problems

I've had mixed success installing the Windows 10 Technical Preview (64-bit) on my Iconia 700P. The first few iterations worked fairly well, but around build 9943, things went terribly wrong, and the machine would not boot. After a while (and a few peripheral purchases), I managed to restore Windows 8.1 from an Acronis recovery image. I downloaded the most recent "stable" build (10030, I think) before I signed up to reserve a copy of Windows 10. It installed fine from a DVD, but things went really downhill once we got to the settings portion of the installation. After rebooting a couple times during the process, the touch screen would not work at all (nor would the bluetooth keyboard). A USB mouse allowed me to click on the screen, but the tablet shut down every time I clicked on Continue. Has anyone had success installing the WIndows 10 Technical Preview on an Iconia 700P? I searched the forum, but couldn't find anything with the Iconia 700/WIndows 10 combination. Thanks!

I have an acer w700 now running windows 10 pro, (upgraded from 8.1 pro). The only issue i found was that after upgrading, i would get the following error on booting the system; "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
The wait operation timed out. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070102)." I too thought that this was a Net Framework 3.5 problem, but in fact, it is an Acer problem.................. i found a solution to resolve this; Go into your Task Scheduler (by using Windows search).  The Task Scheduler runs applications according to a schedule.  The MEMS application is crashing Windows 10 (since it is doing Windows 7 related things). In the Task Scheduler Manager, go to the Task Scheduler Library and find MEMS_Schedule.  Right click on that line and left click on Disable.  Now restart your computer. This is an Acer issue, and until Acer issues an update, the MEMS_Schedule needs to be kept disabled. If Acer ever gets around to issuing an update for this, then you can re-enable the MEMS_Sschedule, the same way as diasabling it. Other than this annoying issue, the W700 runs very well under Windows 10...........so far.............

  • Thinking of buying a mac mini and had a few questions. D:

I went to Best Buy a while ago, waited about an hour for help and I couldn't get anyone to help me.
haha so anyway, I want to get a mac mini. A reason is because I've never used an operating system other than windows, and all windows-based pcs that I've had start slowing down after a month; even with an anti virus program. So hopefully I won't have that problem with a different operating system.
One thing I wanted to do was to get a small 20-22 in LCD HDTV, would I be able to connect a mac mini onto one? Will it also play HD movies? The reason why I want to get a tv instead of a monitor is because I want to be able to connect a ps3 or xbox on it and play games every once in a while; unless maybe you can do the same with regular pc monitors. Would it be better to get a pc monitor instead? Which would you suggest?
    Thanks lots. :]

The smallest full HD TV is going to be 32" although it's possible there might be one or two that are 26" in size. Anything smaller is going to be 720p and may support 1080i. The other option would be to get a monitor that size as they will more then likely support up to 1080p although as already mentioned bear in mind they may be difficult if at all possible to connect to a gaming console.
Having said that they may possibly come with one or two HDMI connections. Sound will be the other issue and you will have to sort out some sort of external sound option. lastly having full HD on anything smaller then a 32" is probably pointless unless you're sitting right up close to the display.
I currently have my late 2009 Mac Mini connected to a 32" full HD Sony TV via HDMI and it works great. I don't really use it for games though as I have a PS3, 360 and a Wii for that. The Mini goes through my Onkyo surround sound amp to my TV detects it as a 1080p TV. As it's going from mini display to DVI to HDMI I use a separate external JBL 2.1 sound system connected directly to the Mini for the sound. Apparently the Mini is capable of outputting digital surround sound but I've not looked into that yet.

  • A Few Questions/Problems With My New iPod *PLEASE HELP*

Hello! I just received my first iPod (4th Gen, 4GB, Red Nano) two days ago (Christmas Eve) and have so far been fairly happy with it. However, I'm experiencing a few problems with it and am hoping that someone could help me.
Firstly, a few of the album covers on my iPod are just black squares. I've read other complaints about this on the forums, but haven't seen any solutions. What can I do to fix this?
Second, I can't figure out how to put my songs in order. On iTunes, it allows me to put songs in alphabetical order, but being that most of my songs are part of full albums, I want my songs to be in the order of when they play on the actual albums. When I try to drag my songs into their correct places, I'm not able to.
Also, is there any way to delete the games that my iPod came with? I think they might be taking up too much room for my liking...
OK, well if you can help or add some extra tips to getting started with my iPod, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    Bump...

  • Quicktime and windows media player question??

i have sent a quicktime file of a spot i did for a client, they like it and have uploaded it to their website, but they are getting some that say they can not view it because they only use windows media player, i know this maybe a stupid question but how can i send them a copy they can use in media player so they have both?? thanks for you help!!!

you can buy and use the WMV Studio windows media export components from Flip4Mac which wil allow you to export to a windows media format directly from FCP and other suitable QT compliant apps ...
or you can copy the file over onto your own quicktime enabled PC and use the free, and much faster, windows media encoder there.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Maintenance Windows - a few questions

Let's say I configure a maintenance windows (MW) for the 2nd saturday of every month from 6p-10p and I have 100 servers in this maintenance window,
are they all going to try and patch and reboot at the same time?
    (Assuming they are all online)
This brings up concerns when trying to plan maintenance windows for our servers - especially when we are 80%+ virtualized. I can't find anything that states the sequence of events that happen when a machine goes to install patches based on a MW.
Do they wait on a heartbeat? Do they typically kick off right at the front of the MW? Does SCCM spread the installs out?
We currently use WSUS (working on migrating to SCCM) and in WSUS we have a ton of groups based on the hour so we spread out the machines being patched. I am trying to avoid having so many different options and times and instead just using MWs.
Another issue we are going to run into is certain machines need to be patched/rebooted in a certain order and with others we just cant have them all down at the same time (e.g. domain controllers). I supposed I could create 2-3 phases per patch weekend to
spread those machines out - is that the best option? (for instance; on the 2nd Saturday we have MW Phase 1 from 6p-8, MW Phase 2 from 8-10, and MW Phase 3 from 10-midnight)

    Hi,
I often help customers with this scenario that you are facing. I'll try to answer your questions as clearly as possible.
    A) Yes, if you have 100 servers in one MW during 6p-10p, they will start at 6p if they have recieved the policy before that. What you can do is to activate the Deadline randomization that was introduced in ConfigMgr 2012 SP1. You can read more on that here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682067.aspx
    B) ConfigMgr does not wait for a heartbeat or anything like that. You need to manage to logic to move your workload from hosts before you take them down for a reboot. VMM could help you with this IIRC. Or at least SCSM SMA and PowerShell. The sequence is
basically that they install the patches, if a reboot is required, it will reboot at the end of the patches.
    C) Yes you need to create different MWs and place those servers in the MW order that they need to be rebooted. Be careful tough. If you have ServerA, ServerB and ServerC that need to reboot in that order. You place them in MWs in that order. You might end
up getting patches to some or all of those servers from a Patch Tuesday but perhaps only ServerB will need a reboot so only ServerB will reboot and thus put you in a place you don't want to be. To solve this, create a re-running package/program deployment
that reboots ALL servers that are sensitive each and EVERY MW.
