Z60m Ultrabay Adapter for HDD

Hello all,
i'm looking for an Ultrabay adapter for HDD to extend my Z60m-system.
At the lenovo-website, I found an adapter that sould, according to the description, fit into my system.
Ultrabay Adapter
Has anyone experience with this model?
My second question is:  What is the maximum HDD-size (GB) that can I use there?
In the specifications of the Z60-models, I found the information, that the system is limited to a maximum HDD-capacity of 100GB, or did I misunderstand that?
Hard drive features:
Standard 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, or 100GB hard drive sizes
Specifications Z60
Do I have to consider this restriction at the "primary HDD-Slot" AND the Ultrabay-HDD-Slot ?
Thank you.

the Z60 uses SATA hdd, so anything in 2.5 inch and 9.5 mm thickness format is okay, currently 640 gig is the largest.
Lenovo's figure are based on the largest hdd that was available when they released the machine, they don't update these value when new parts come out.

  • Pavilion zv5000 - IDE Adapter for HDD?

I have a Pavilion zv5000 series laptop whose hard drive died several years ago. My dad sent it to a work friend, who figured out that it was the HDD, and I guess he threw the drive away, with an adapter with it. I picked up an IDE drive for it, stupidly assuming that the pins on the drive just fit into the connector on the laptop itself. After a lot of confusion as to why the drive wouldn't fit, a search showed an adapter with a regular IDE connector on one end and a connector similar to the one on the laptop on the other. I'm asking whether it is true that I need one, even though I don't see any other way for it to connect.
Also, four pins are isolated from the main pins on the drive. The old Molex connector also had four pins. Are these the power pins, and does the adapter accomodate these too? There doesn't seem to be any other connector on the laptop. Again, I just want to confirm this and that I didn't just buy the wrong thing for this laptop.
So, is the adapter what I'm looking for?
    This question was solved.

Yes I used to own a zv5000 and I can confirm there was a black plastic connector that went over the brass IDE pins on the hard drive to allow connection to the motherboard.

  • Ultrabay adapter - HDD doesn't show up

I just bought a new ultrabay adapter for my Thinkpad T400. I put a brand new Toshiba 320GB HDD in it and place into the laptop. The HDD is from another laptop but is still brand new, I bought it from my mate who installed a SSD in his newly bought laptop.
Anyways, when I placed the ultrabay adapter in the laptop with the new HDD I got a message that Windows 7 was installing drivers for the new Toshiba drive, standard procedure. But I don't see anything in My Computer.
The HDD shows up in Device Manager but not in My Computer. See screenshot.
I tried following these instructions with no luck. I also tried updating the BIOS with no luck.
The light on the adapter doesn't turn on - perhaps it's somehow switched off?
    Please help...
    Solved!

Nevermind. I solved the problem. I used Partition Wizard Home Edition to see the disk and created a new NTFS partition on the HDD and assigned a drive letter to it.
Figured I would post the solution here if someone would experience a similar problem.

Can anyone tell me if the Ultrabay adapter for the W530 comes with a tray and rubber rails for future HDD installation? Or do I have to purchase those items separately from a retailer like Newmodeus such as this?

  • 12.7mm Ultrabay adapter

So I bought a W530 with the 320GB HDD, and I have the 12.7mm Ultrabay adapter for another hard drive I'm going to install. I'd like to place the other hard drive, an Intel SSD, into the main drive slot, with the HDD in the Ultrabay adapter. I'm not sure what I need - do I just need the 9mm rails for the Intel drive, or do I also need a caddy for the HDD?

    aangrist:
What is the size of the HDD, 7mm or 9.5?  If it's the 7mm you will need the adaptor rails in order for it to fit properly.

What is the part # for the 2nd HDD Adapter for an Ultrabay Slim, to be used in the DVD bayCan you also confirm it is a SATA connection, I have already been sent an IBM P/N 41U3148 which has the IDE connection and appears not to fit.

Actually, it is entirely accurate.  Here is another related thread with a lot of pictures that demonstrate the problem.  I have 3 Lenovo W520s and 3 useless Lenovo Ultramedia bay adapters.  I cannot tolerate the gap because it causes frequent drive dismounts when I pick up the laptop when it is running or even touching the side.  The newmodeus adapters I purchased to replace the defective Lenovo adapters have been rock solid!  I recommend visiting all the picture links on this thread.  It will clearly demonstrate the problem:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Will-Hard-Drive-Bay-Adapter-II-two-work-in-W52...
Shan, it isn't entirely correct because we have a lot of W510 and W520 users in my company this doesn't occur with. I am not discounting the problem. I only take exception to the statement that blankets ALL users and ALL hard drive adaptors.  Doing that is incorrect.

  • ThinkPad 2nd HDD Adapter for T40 -do I need to configure the hard drive?

I purchased a new Samsung HM160HC hard drive and a Thinkpad 2nd HDD adapter for Ultrabay slim for a Thinkpad T40. When I install the PATA hard drive into the adapter do I need to configure the hard drive as slave, cable select, or leave as master? Any help would be appreciated.

  • EBay Ultrabay adapter reporting SATA I with OEM Seagate 500gig HDD installed

I purchased -THIS- recently and when I installed it along with the OEM 500GB Seagate HDD (which is SATA II), RST is only reporting it as operating at SATA I (1.5 Gb/sec).  I then removed the HDD from the adapter and put it back into the main spot and RST then correctly reported it as a SATA II drive.
Have any of you come across this when using similar eBay Ultrabay adapters?  I am thinking about trying another one on eBay, but don't know if I want to take the chance or not.  Has anybody purchased a Ultrabay adapter off of eBay and having it report the correct SATA interface for an OEM SATA II HDD?
    BTW, I have a W520
    thanks!

I'd like to confirm JRHawk9's comments. The HDD in the internal bay reports SATA-300/Sata 2, but in the UltraBay reports SATA-150/Sata 1. This is wrong. Bottom line, if I put a SATA 2 device into a SATA 3 connector, it should be reported as a SATA 2 device.
I have also conducted some performance benchmarks against the HDD in both locations. For large file transfers, the speeds are the same. However, for small file I/O (clearly the norm for most computers), the HDD on a SATA 2 connector (the internal HDD bay in this case), was between 5 - 30% faster.
While neither bay saturated the SATA 1 spec, clearly the HDD properly detected as a SATA 2 device allowed it to perform more small file I/O.
What's wrong here? Why doesn't the Lenovo W520 properly detect the OEM Seagate 500GB drive as SATA 2?  BTW, I've contacted Seagate; they tell me it's Lenovo's fault. With the evidence provided here, I have to agree.

  • AC adapter for PX1269E-1G50 external HDD

    Hi all,
I have lost the AC adapter for the PX1269E-1G50 external HDD and would like to buy a new one. Does anyone know what the part number is for this adapter, and where to buy it?
    Thanks

It is not easy to get this info. Have you maybe users manuals or some other document?
Maybe you can find this info there.
By the way: check the power supply adapter info and maybe you can use some universal one.

  • T530 Ultrabay CD Drive for HDD

    Hey there,
I've seen a few topics about this issue before but they seem to remain unresolved aswell.
I'm trying to replace the stock CD Drive in a T30 with a SilverStone TS09 bay using a 1TB Western Digital HDD (which has been formatted and is working correctly). The T530 doesn't seem to detect it in anyway, even through experimenting via the BIOS and looking through disk management. On turning on the laptop, the light for the bay flashes on but then no further indications, and changing the SATA options in the BIOS caused a boot loop.
Does it definitely have to be a OEM Bay, as I was unable to find them and was told they aren't being produced anymore, or is there another solution I can try?
    Thanks for any replies,
    Tim.

Alternatively, you could use a CompactFlash card in an inexpensive PC Card adapter for CompactFlash for file transfers from a modern computer to the PowerBook 1400cs. There are also PC Card adapters for some other flash memory card types. The modern computer may be able to write directly to certain flash memory cards, or an external USB reader could be used.
If necessary, one can usually reformat a PC-formatted memory card to Mac without a problem. In this case, with System 7.5.3 on the PowerBook 1400cs, make sure that Mac OS Standard (HFS) is used on the memory card. Also, please note that it is not possible to write to Mac OS Standard (HFS) from a modern Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or later.
It should be possible to transfer files on a PC-formatted card. Just keep any downloaded Mac application files unaltered as MacBinary (.bin), BinHex (.hqx), or StuffIt (.sit). Do not decode/decompress until on the PowerBook 1400cs.

  • Did someone check Parallel/Serial Ultrabay Slim Adapter for T61 on T400

Just a simple question. I need a serial adapter and the Parallel/Serial Ultrabay Slim Adapter is for me the best solution. If it really looks nice doesn't matter.
I just want to know if it works.

Edit: Okay, it seems that Serial Ultra Bay has not the ports as the ultra bay from T6x series. But then is the question, does Lenovo plan to create also this Parallel/Serial Ultrabay Slim Adapter for T400 series?

Did you investigate if the expresscard converters give you the full RS232 standard you require. The new expresscard slot on the T400 has better performance than USB 2 as it basically attaches directly to the bus.

  • T61 and SATA Ultrabay adapter

Over the course of several months and with different versions of Windows, I've tried to get my T61 (8891) to work properly with the SATA Ultrabay adapter.
With some SATA drives, it seems to _almost_ work - it will be recognized properly and even read the file system, but there is still enough of a glitch that files get corrupted.
On my most recent attempt and with most previous attempts, the Ultrabay and main HDD LEDs just light up solid and the drive in the Ultrabay is never recognized at all.  My most recent try was with a Seagate ST9500420ASG.  I did try limiting the speed to 1.5 using a jumper on the drive, but that didn't make any difference.
I am able to use PATA drives in the PATA Ultrabay adapter just fine - no problems at all.
This is a pretty big limitation, though, because all the new faster and higher capacity drives are SATA in addition to all SSDs being SATA.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?  Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Kevin,
Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately I've tried several times with drives formatted or cloned first in USB enclosures, but none of them have worked properly.
Some drives do seem to work better than others.  I have had marginal success with a couple of drives in that it will read the file system and the Ultrabay drive access light doesn't stay on constantly.  However, there still seems to be an issue with even these drives.
For most drives I've tried, the drive is not recognized at all and / or the Ultrabay HDD access LED lights up constantly, which can't be good.
It appears that Lenovo has sold promoted and sold hardware that is not actually compatible, at least with some T61s.  It is listed as compatible with my T61 (8891-CTO), but has never worked properly.  I even ordered and tried another Ultrabay SATA adapter thinking something might be wrong with that particular adapter, but neither one works properly.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • W520 - installing a 7mm SSD in ultrabay adapter?

I've bought a 9.5mm Crucial m4 256GB SSD for my W520 for some time and now I'd like to get a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-2-5-Inch-Solid-MZ-7PD256BW/dp/B009NB8WRU/), which has a height of 7mm.
I've got an Ultrabay adapter and I've been using my original 320GB WD3200BEKT with this adapter and everything seems to be fine. But that drive is 9.5mm in height as well. Now my question is, could I install a 7mm SSD into this adapter?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Yes.

  • T43 - ultrabay adapter not detecting drive

I just bought  an after market Ultrabay Adapter off ebay for the SATA drive I recently bought. However, when I plugged in the adapter into the cd-rom slot Windows does not detect as a drive. It shows up as new hardware detected, but that's it. What can i do to make the drive detectable in MyComputer ( or how do I access it) ?

Does it show up in disk management?  Perhaps it needs to be formatted, or is the drive already formatted?
