Z61m 9450 HAG, Windows 7 install, boot up with battery problem

Hello all,
I recently performed a FULL/CLEAN  install of windows 7 on my z61m, from XP.
Everything was fine about the install, after installation updates were installed via automatic updates, the machine rebooted in about 45 seconds and came back into windows no problem.
Then when I closed the laptop down for the night and came to boot it back up the next day it booted to the windows logo, that went away and I was left with juts a black screen for ages - with disk/power/battery/wireless lights all on and the disk light flickering away.
I did a hard shutdown (pressing power key) unplugged the battery and immediately rebooted on AC power only and it booted into windows in 45 seconds again!
Now I can't boot up with the battery in.
I can insert the battery while windows is booted and it recognises it fine - and charges it.
Any thoughts as to why this might be happening?
Cheers

Another strange issue I'm experiencing: I tried to take a screenshot to post here, but when I press the screenshot key I get an error message saying "Your screen shot can't be saved. You don't have permission to save files in the location where screen shots are stored."
Do I have some sort of malware or trojan?
EDIT: I fixed the screenshot issue by changing the desktop permissions (not sure why I needed to do that?). So here's what my screen looks like:

Hi, I have installed boot camp with wins xp home but i can't get on line with it. can only one help please.

Please close this thread, I have managed to get a hold of a DVD including all the drivers, so I suppose that will work, if not one way then another.
Thank you for the quick answers.

Is the Adobe CD a MAC app ?
If it is a program for Windows you will not be able to install it.
If you nedd that program you can either buy the equivalent for Mac or install a way to run Windows under Mac (may be a cheaper solution)

  • When I open Firefox, even in safe mode, it causes my Windows 7 64-bit to totally crash and I get that blue screen of death =(. This has happened suddenly on Nov 16, 2010. I had been running Firefox on Windows 7 64-bit with no problems previously. Help?

I have had Windows 7 64 bit for the past year and have run Firefox with no problem. It was the most problem free of the three browsers including IE and Chrome.
I have a Vista side where I run my online backup and did so yesterday. Went on Firefox. No Problem.
Today I booted into the Windows 7 side. Seemed to boot up okay. Until I opened Firefox. Suddenly, my whole computer crashed, windows shut down and that bluescreen popped up. I restarted normally. Same thing. I restarted in safe-mode. Couldn't find any problems. Went back to regular mode. Started FF. Boom crash.
Back to safe mode. Did a system restore. Back to regular startup. Didn't help. Attempting to open FF crahed windows.
So back to safe mode. Started Firefox. Crashed the whole computer and same blues screen.
So I uninstalled FF. Reinstalled FF. It still makes Windows crash.
So now I am on IE :P

  • Installing Boot Camp with Windows XP

I just bought a new game for my computer, but as it turns out, it's a PC ONLY game. So I thought I'd try out Boot Camp for the Mac. I went to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-xp/default.aspx and clicked on "Important: Download Windows XP Service Pack 3". After that it goes on about why you should install it and so on. But the thing I was wondering about, is if I buy that, will I be able to install it using Boot Camp.
I appreciate any and all responses.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first things first: from the link you mentioned you only get the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and not the operating system Windows XP itself.
That Service Pack will only install on a WIndows XP that is already installed.
Have a read through the BootCamp Installation Guide to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ plus the additional FAQs there.
You have to buy yourself a Windows XP; Vista or Windows 7 to install it on your Mac with BootCamp.
Depending on what Windows game it is you wanna play, you can also have buy and use Crossover Games for Mac https://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/
Look through their compatibility list http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/ whether that game is supported.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Anyone having problems installing Boot Camp with New Mac Pro 2.8?

I just get blank screen after it restarts with XP disk. I'm using a vga - dvi adapter with a apple 17" display..
I've phoned apple and read up on here but nobody seems to know. I just wondered whether my 2008 Mac Pro was faulty...
    Please can you help?
    cheers

Are you getting a white screen after the Mac reboots? If so, try disconnecting all non-essential USB/FW devices.
I had the exact same problem and I went through a long, stressful process of elimination to get it working, even to the extent of using my MacBook as an external drive through target disk mode!
It turned out to be my iMage USB camera. Even after successfully installing Windows I have to disconnect it before using Bootcamp.
    I Hope this helps.

That is your Recovery Partition most likely. You can check by enabling the Debug menu in Disk Utility.

  • Afraid to install update; anyone with NO problems?

Hate to sound like such a fraidy cat, but having read all the posts reporting serious issues after installing the latest update (I guess it's 10.4.9 since I'm running 10.4.8 and am getting update notices via Software Update), I'm hesitant to install it!
Is there anyone out there with an iBook like mine (G4, 1.42 Ghz) who has installed the update withOUT problems?
    iBook 14", G4 1.42GHz; 1.5GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello Bud.
IMO, checking your boot volume for any directory errors via Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your Tiger install disc is more important than repairing disk permissions beforehand.
I've installed every major OS update when released with Jaguar, Panther and now Tiger without repairing disk permissions beforehand without a single problem but I always check my boot volume for any directory errors with Disk First Aid repair beforehand.
After using the Migration Assistant with my PB when new 1&1/2 years ago, Software Update indicated there was a major OS update available along with some additional updates. Although my PB was brand new and had not been on for more than an hour, I ran Disk First Aid repair on my boot volume before installing the available updates. Lo and behold there were some directory problems that were successfully repaired. I venture to say that I probably would have experienced some sort of problem after installing the updates had I not done so. As always, I didn't repair disk permissions beforehand and the updates were installed without any problems.
I usually repair disk permissions afterwards which is where any problems with permissions can turn up.

  • I have been using firefox on my desktop with windows xp for years with no problems and suddenly refused to open. The error message reads "unable to locate component. plc4.dll was not found." What does that mean? How do I fix it?

The error message also suggests that I unintall and reinstall firefox, I tried that but it does not fix the problem.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then disable Virtualization and reinstall Firefox.
Other security software may have similar features to prevent Firefox from updating files properly.

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Battery Problem

My laptop has a weird hardware problem. Although it is plugged in to a power supply and charging, it is not recognize as it is charging by the OS. But I am 100% sure that it is charging as my laptop could run forever with the power supply plugged in.
I would like to know is there anyway to get pass the part where the Installer ask for the laptop to be plugged to a power supply. Because it wouldn't let me pass that page! It is very frustrating!
Please help me, I have no idea how to solve this problem! Thanks :)

I had a similar problem. Replacement power adapter charges the battery just fine but it's never recognized as being "connected" by the laptop.
I couldn't install SP1 for Win7 because the laptop "thought" it was running on only batteries.
    Here's a work-around that worked for me:
       Open Device Manager.
       Open Batteries category.
Right-click on Microsoft Battery ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and
    Uninstall it.
Immediately launch Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or another program that "requires" an A/C connection.
Upon restarting the computer, the Microsoft Battery ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery component automatically was detected and reinstalled.

  • PLEASE HELP WITH BATTERY PROBLEM!!

I recently swicthed from the 8830 which was a wonderfull phone. MY curve from sprint, 8330 is dead every day by 5 pm. I already exchanged the phone and had the battery replaced (third battery) I used my 8830 with the same applications and the most it would be by like 50-70 percent.  I dont know what to do. The curve is SUPPOSED TO  get better battery life! but actually is not. Its become a non realiable phone for me. Its still under my 30 days. Even though i already swaped it once. I do not want to get rid if this phone. I love the blackberry i just need the battery to last me either the same or better than the 8830 as blackberry promised....
I have read forums in closing the applications but even when i do its still the same. I occasionally do get the hour glass problem and it does lag quite a bit.  Does any one know of a battery issue?? Has to be???
I let it die last night and recharged it completely - as some of you recommended. I will try it today but my hopes arent to high ....
    Please help.
    Thank you

  • Fed up with battery problems

About a year ago I had to buy a new battery for my MacBook because the one I had had expanded so horribly it was causing the computer to not function properly. Apple refused to to help and I had to pay full price for the new battery.
Now the replacement battery is not working properly. Tech support has confirmed that the battery is obviously faulty. But since it was purchased 13 months ago they cannot help. Had it been within a year of the purchase they might be able to replace it. This is beyond frustrating.
    The battery info is:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2763
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 2763
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 108
    Condition: Check Battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 121
    Voltage (mV): 12586
It only holds a charge for about 40 minutes before the battery dies. Is there anything else I can do to try and improve the battery life?

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
But remember that batteries are considered "consumables" and there's a reason Apple doesn't warrant them for more than a year. All batteries die.
For what it's worth, I feel that if your first battery was expanding it should have been replaced for free. But I don't get to make that decision.

  • 2 out of 3 iPhone 3G's with battery problem.

    http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/2-out-of-our-3-iPhones-have-faulty-batteries .htm
Website says the 2 out of 3 iPhone 3G's have defective batteries.
They don't fully charge and have less battery life.
Anyone having the same problem? - I do

I am having this problem too, if the iphone 3G does have the same icon for the full charge as the original iphone. Apple may have changed it for the iphone 3G. But my phone does not display the radioactive green battery even after a 7 hour charge. Does anyone know the answer?

  • Can't install Boot Camp drivers on Early 2010 MBP

Hello there, so I'm having a problem installing drivers as you can see from the title. I was trying to create a Boot Camp partition on my girlfriend's MBP. She has the 2010 early one. Now we got windows installed on there with no problem; however, we can't seem to get the drivers that allow her speakers, webcam, etc. to work.
Initially we tried using my Snow Leoperd OSX disc because as far as I know she has snow leoperd too and she can't find her original OSX disc. I have an early 2011 MBP so when I tried using the boot camp drivers on my OSX disc it would not work. It said the drivers on mine weren't made for hers. Whatever no biggies, so I google an alternative and tried to download the drivers from boot camp manager back on her Mac Partition. It said that the drivers could not be found or could not be downloaded. Something to that effect. So now that we can't download the drivers, or use the original disc, what other options do we have?

    Hello Arroyo1291,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! Given your situation I strongly recommend you to call Apple Care support at 1-800-275-2273. When you get in touch with an AppleCare representative, ask them for a replacement Mac OS X install DVD (I think Apple calls them Fullfillment Disks). Give the representative your girlfriend's MacBook Pro serial number and tell them that the Mac OS X installation DVD that came with her computer is now missing and that you want a replacement DVD. Also, make sure to ask them if the replacement Mac OS X install DVD contains the Windows Bootcamp Drivers on it like the original Mac OS X Install DVD that shipped with your girlfriend's MacBook Pro.
One last thing, if your girlfriend's MacBook Pro is not under the AppleCare extended warranty, they may charge you a nominal fee on the replacement disc order.
    Best of luck!

  • MANY issues after installing Windows XP Home Edition with Boot Camp

I have been having a lot of problems after installing Windows XP Home Edition (2002).
For one, after installing Windows using Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5.1, I opened Windows on my Mac Book, inserted the Mac OS X Disk 1 as in the instructions and got the message: "This package requires a newer version of the Windows installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?" When I clicked Yes (I had NO idea what it meant at the time), I got the message: "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing" and the Installer quit.
How do I fix this problem?
Another problem I have is that there is no sound on the Windows XP, yet it works perfectly on Mac OS X. Is there any way to fix this problem?
A third problem I have is that I can't wirelessly connect to the internet using Window XP, yet I can on Mac OS X. I have no idea on how to fix this, and it's really messing with me. D:<
D: Some of these problems may not be specifically "Application" related, but the top one mainly is. (in my views)
    ~Twilight

    Twilight:
Is it possible that you installed Windows XPSP1 instead of the required SP2? If yes then that is cause of all of your issues listed in your post. You have no sound and you cannot connect wirelessly because you still have been unable to install the boot camp drivers when you inserted the leopard disk.
Please double check to see which version of windows XP did you install. Remember, you need windows XPSP2 for all this to work.
Now, in the event that you installed XPSP1 then you will need to get to the microsoft windows site on a different computer and burn the Service Pack 2 for windows XP on a CD. After that boot your apple mac to XP side and insert the Service Pack 2 disk and install the pack. After that, it will ask you to restart the computer which you must and then once fully booted into XP then insert the leopard CD again and see if takes and installs all the necessary drivers.
