Z61M blue screen parity error

I upgraded the memory from 1 gb to 4 gb, being careful to install the correct modules. After 10 to 15 minutes the system crashes with a blue screen error message (NMI: Parity Check/ Memory Parity Error) . I ordered new memory thinking these modules were defective (note- I installed them in my MacBook & they work fine), and the same crash occurred. I then placed the original modules back, which always worked fine (but slow) and they are now crashing the system with the same error message. So, it does not seem to be a memory issue- but a computer issue.  Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing these crashes? I am running Vista, which I hate, plan to install 7 once this issue is resolved.

Something might also be wrong at the memory slots. It is perhaps unable to read all the data that is being written into it.
One more thing about Windows 7 installation,Everything may work after you install Win7 except for the Audio. There are loads of posts here  where users did not find Win7 drivers for the Z series

I do not have recovery disks for this computer.  I tried to order them but them seem to not be available.  This is my daughter's computer.  She says she started to have trouble after downloading Frost Wire (music share) and then she removed it.  We tried going back to an earlier time and that didn't help and then the blue screen with error message appeared. What do I do now?

    Hi,
Assuming your in the US, recovery discs are available to order for that model here.  That may be the best option.
You should also be able to do a recovery without the discs as well.  Take a look at this document: Recover Windows Vista Operating System Using HP Recovery, and look for the section Restore the PC to its original condition with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible.  This should allow you to recover the PC.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I have received a Blue Screen Stop Error on my Toshiba Satellite 5200 Series laptop.
I could report it here, in full, if that would be helpful. However, it begins by telling me to restart the machine but the unit's Power button is not allowing me to switch it off.
What action should I take ?

  • Blue screen fatal error messages - laptop always crashes and now won't even let me restore

My dv6920ea laptop has developed a fault and keeps crashing with blue screen errors, such as "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". The problem has become so bad that it happens everytime I turn the laptop on. The laptop ran "Windows memory diagnostic tool" which said that there was a hardware fault. I've tried running a full system recovery to factory setting but sometimes the laptop crashes, and when it doesn't it asks me to insert a windows disc, but my laptop didn't come with one. The laptop is a year and a half old. What can I do to fix this issue? I don't mind completely recovering the laptop to factory settings and I have most(!) of my files backed up.

    Hello djbless,
You’re getting blue screens with error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
Run diagnostics to make sure that you are not having a problem with any of the hardware.
    Turn off the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
    Run the startup test.
Go to HP.com and update the drivers, there is a button that says Let HP scan your system for out-of-date and missing drivers and software
Here is a link to the updates.

  • MSI 770-C45 locking up/blue screening/other errors on boot

I recently built a new HTPC and have been having allot of problems getting it to boot.  It may take 10-15min of trying to boot up over and over with random blue screens, lockups, or errors that the C drive needs to be checked for consistency before Windows will finally load up and work.  At first I thought it was a bad drive, but according to Western Digital’s HDD Diag util, both the controller and the drives surface checks out OK.  I just wiped the drive out and reinstalled Windows 7 again, and this time went with IDE instead of AHCI, hoping it was a driver issue.  It only worked well for a day before the same problems started rearing their ugly head again.
At this point I don’t know if I have a memory issue, a CMOS setting wrong (which are All Auto), or what.  I hoping someone here might have an idea of what this problem could be.
    My system specs:

According to MSI, my motherboard supports the following modules:
    DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC)
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&cat3_no=656&prod_no=1812
This are the speeds of the DDR 3 RAM supported ,1600Mhz beeing done with overclocking ,because the CPU memory controller is no able to do 1600 by default.

When I look at the test results for my Motherboard:
    http://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_1812.pdf
I see 1333 RAM list like PC11000 DDR III RAM (DDR-1333).  However, If I go to a site like Bestbuy or NewEgg and search for DDR3 1333, it shows results like Corsair - 2-Pack 2GB PC3-10666 DDR3 DIMM Memory Kit.  I see PC3-10666 and PC3-10600, but nothing for PC11000.
The only mention of 1333 modules on the test report is for 1333 OC
When you see the PC 11000 DDR3 or PC3 10666 specifications they are refering to the theoretical bandwidth ,it s related to the frequency of course ,but it s something else it s a data rate. Its wikipedia but it s good enough -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_3 Some specs are atipical like 10666 ,marketing thngyes
Search the internet for memory that works ok with your CPU ,look for "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz."real" means that that memory should be able to run at those frequencies without voltage increase over the default one.Usually when a memory vendor says you need to increase voltage for a specific frequency it means that you overclock and that there is no warranty they will work in your configuration.
So you need DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz ,it needs to be AMD tested memory and it needs to be a known to work RAM on MSI motherboards timings wise.Look up on newegg and see what works.
The performance gaps between 1066 and 1333 are small in real practice and you can overcome some loss by using a "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz , tweaking different timings ,using Command Rate of 1T for example ( you may "feel" it smoother in desktop than a 1333Mhz at 2T).

  • I keep getting blue screen and error message to remove this file from system. spooldr.sys

HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n    w/operating system     Windows XP Professional
I installed the printer in February and the disk did not finalize the setup process.  I went online and
down loaded the drivers and software that was offered from the HP website.
The printer works, but as the months have gone along, I keep getting updates for the printer and
the system needs to reboot and it does automatically.
Now I am getting a blue screen with a critical dump error message.  HP error reporting keeps sending
the same message back to restore to earlier date before the updates.  That worked for awhile.  Now
HP Error system says that malware has corrupted and needs to remove system file     spooldr.sys
Is this in your driver software.  Spooldr is the system that caches pages of data for printing in chronological
    order....
Can I uninstall my software and drivers and change to the plain & simple, print and scan to prevent the
spool driver from loading to my system?

Thank you for your input.  But, It is amazing that you can tell me that I was infected with  rootkit.
Without information as to how to fix, your information is after the fact and useless.
I used the Safety Scanner provided to me by HP.  A full scan didn't detect any Malware in any files on my system.  But the last screen dump provided the information that   spooldr.sys  was corrupted and  needed
    to be removed.
Coming into HP Form, I did read on the HP website that my system Windows XP Professional was not listed
and noted that the software may have not been just what I needed.  This was the reason for the question
about uninstalling and reinstalling less of the program.  I really don't need my printer to print backward and
that is all I see that it is doing that other printers don't.
Besides, Kudos goes to the person from HP who sent the email,  suggesting I used the HP Update software and drives recommended  for my computer system.  Computer, printer is working, back to normal and hasn't taken a dump since, I uploaded  software and drives for Windows XP Professional.

    Hey @mambu ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with screen brightness and blank screens since updating your dv6 notebook to Windows 8.1.
Looking at the available drivers for your notebook you will find there are no drivers for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 for this notebook. This will drastically affect how the graphics card (GPU) functions in this Windows environment.
Your notebook has a feature called switchable graphics. In order for switchable graphics to function properly you must use drivers provided by HP directly for the graphics cards to work properly. Since HP didn't release drivers for Windows 8 or 8.1 for the GPU setup on your notebook the brightness functions may not work and you may notice issues with the display. It would make sense that this issue is present after sleep or hibernation because the drivers need to be initialized and are encountering errors because they are not the correct drivers, or are generic Microsoft drivers and cannot communicate properly..
The only professional suggestion I can make is that you reinstall an operating system that your notebook hardware has available drivers for. Windows 7. Sorry for the bad news.
    Thanks!

I thought I had this fixed, but apparently I was wrong. Every now and then, for what seems to be no apparent reason, I get this blue screen error:

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screens appears again follow these steps:

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disbable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

I had similar problems before, but the blue screen is new after replacing my video card. (Before the new video card, the computer was freezing up with a black screen. I'm assuming the blue screen is a step in the right direction?) Original thread is here.
Right now, this is my current system:
Motherboard: K8T Neo-FIS2R [Bios version 2.0 (I think; its the most current version as of 2-15-05)]
    CPU: Athlon 3000+
    PSU: Antec Truepower 550 (+5V=40A; -5V=0.5A; +12V=30A; -12V=1.0A; +3.3V=32A; +5V SB=2A)

Running Windows SP2, all current updates installed
NVidia 6800GT video card (Asus; using TechConnect driver)
    Soundblaster Audigy 2
    DLink Wireless Network Adapter (DWL-G520)
I have tried replacing the RAM, HD, video card, and Power supply with similar results.
The error message clearly states that I should try disabling memory options such as BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing, but I don't know what affect this would have if I did this. Any opinions on this and other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks...

    - EDIT -
One more note: Nothing is overclocked in PC. All temperatures seem normal. CPU does not go over 38C.

I ran memtest for about 5 hours with no errors. I'll give it a go for a while w/o the sound card for a week or two.
I wish this thing wasn't so hard to troubleshoot. For example, it was happening about 2 times a day before I tried new ram. After going with the new stick of ram, it was fine for about 10 days, so I thought it was solved. Then last night, I got two of these again.

  • Critical error, blue screen stop error

after installing installation CD today, my laptop keeps going to a blue screen reporting a STOP error.... a critical error, but can't reslove. Have now removed the iTunes and it hasn't happened yet.
    Maybe a conflict, I don't know.
    Dell Inspirion Laptop   Windows XP

I found the answer !  Turns out it is/was not a Win7 problem, but a drive problem.
I was following some links on another Win7 forum and happened upon mention of SSD drives causing a BSOD.  The one in particular mentioned was a Crucial M4 SSD. It sounded familiar . . . I have one as my C: drive.  Turns out I needed a firmware
update. The update corrects a condition where an incorrect response to a SMART power-on counter will cause the m4 drive to become unresponsive after 5184 hours of Power-on time. The drive will recover after a power cycle, however, this failure will repeat
once per hour after reaching this point. 5184 hours is about 7.2 months. Just a bit under how long I've had this system.
I applied the update . . . . . computer has been running seven hours now.
Thanks to all who helped me here.
    Joe
    Wanted to add for reference:
The original post from Crucial acknowledging the issue.
    BSOD Crucial M4
The fix is as simple as updating the firmware, but the hoops to jump through for the firmware update to take place is a bit frustrating.
With my board, z68-v pro, it was necessary for me to go into the bios and change my controller mode to IDE. In addition I needed to remove the drive connected to the Marvell port and plug it into the Intel port as well as put my two ssd's on the first and
second Intel ports. Once this was done I was able to get past the 'finding drives' screen and update the firmware for both ssd's. Once the update finished I went back into the bios and changed the controller mode back to AHCI. As i said, a frustrating experience
but I commend Crucial for owning up to the issue rather than lead people to think their ssd's needed replacing or something was wrong with windows and subsequent unnecessary re-installs.
