Z68A-G43 2500K throttling

Having the same problem that a lot of users seems to experience with this board. MY 2500K at a 4.5GHz overclock keeps throttling down to 4.3GHz when under heavy load, such as Prime95. I'm running the 4.1 BIOS version but have heard of the beta version of 4.2 fixing this issue?

The latest BETA UEFI Release for the G3 version of the Z68A-G43 should fix the ratio drop issue:

Z68A-G43 No Core Voltage setting?

Hi all
Well my mobo was crashing all the time with my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz so I went ahead and got a Z68A-G43, i5 2500k and 8gb of 1600mhz G-Skill Ripjawx ram.
I've noticed though....the BIOS has no setting to change core voltage, neither does MSI Control Centre or Click Bios in Windows. So...does this board have no setting for to change it I ask? I mean it may be low down in the range but £75 is a bit tall for budget board is it not? I've got a rock solid 4.5ghz overclock..I can't boot into Windows with 4.6ghz but if I use control centre I can get it solid in Windows at 4.6ghz @ an auto voltage of 1.386v (I mean I've literally thrown everything at it and its not choked).
It would be nice to try and push for 4.7ghz if I could just give it a bit of Vcore myself! Cheers

A solid OC of 4,5GHz on the budget Z68 offering ? Mere mortals would be over the moon to boast with such an OC, what is it, 30% ? It's always that tiny bit extra we all want, and when we have it, sometimes we don't know what to do with it.
Most of us run our boards around that OC to maintain the full power saving feature. Sandy Bridge has this unwanted side effect, whenever you manually set the VCore, it will remain there, no matter what, even in idle.
But you are welcome to check with MSI technical if it's even possible to introduce this via a BIOS change in the future. I doubt it. >>How to contact MSI.<<
Believe me, the 2500K above 4,6GHz generates mostly heat and the gain in performance becomes insignificant.

Overclocking issue with a Z68A-G43 MB and 4*2 GB DDR3 Gskill memory kits

Hi,
On my old MB, I overclocked my I5 2500k CPU to 4.2 Ghz , It was running with 4*2GB DDR3 modules and everything was stable since several months.
I use the same components on my new Z68A-G43 MB but I don't manage to start my PC in the same conditions.
The PC runs well in normal mode (not OC ) with the 4x2GB DDR3 modules
The PC runs well when overclocked to 4.2 Ghz (and it is very stable) with 2*2 GB GSkill DDR3 (1600 MHz CAS 7, reference - F3-12800CL7 2GBECO) modules placed in DIMM 1 & 3
But, when overclocked, the PC refuses to boot with 4*2GB DDR3 modules, after adding 2x2 GB GSkill DDR3 (1600 MHz CAS 8 , F3- reference - 12800CL8 2GBRM ) modules placed in DIMM 2 & 4
Same problem with 2x2 GB KINGSTON DDR3 (1600 MHz CAS 9, reference 99005403 - 125.A01LF ) modules placed in DIMM 2 & 4
I tried the most of the recommended settings in the overclocking forum: OC genie enabled or not , XMP enabled or not , timings manually set according to information given by CPUZ , decreasing the frequency of the DDR3 to 1333 Mhz...
In summary, my PC refuses to boot due to a memory issue (3 beeps at launch) when I put 4*2GB of DDR3 with a 4.2 Ghz OC (whereas it was running fine for months on my old motherboard P67A- GD65 ).
The PC runs fine with 4*2GB of DDR3 without OC or with only 2*2GB of DDR3 with a 4.2 Ghz OC.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem ?

Yes. Get a factory matched and tested together RAM kit. Corsair work well on this series mainboard. That or try to increase the DRAM V. to 1.65v's, loosen the timings for all sticks to 9 9 9 24, CR 2. Good luck!

Z68A-G43 (G3) Crossfire

Im having a problem..
Im running at Crossfire setup, and GPU-Z and HWiNFO64 reports that 1st GPU, connected to PCI-E 3.0 x16 port, runs at PCI-E 1.1 x16 and 2nd GPU, connected to PCI-E 2.0 x16 port, runs at PCI-E 1.1 x4..
Cant get them to work at PCI-e 2.0 at any settings, as i have understood that this MB should be able to run 1st GPU at 2.0 x16 and 2nd GPU at 2.0 x4..
Everything else works like a charm, but that PCI-e mode problem was there before i flashed my HD6850 with HD6870 Bios, so that didnt affect it.
Both GPUs support PCI-E 2.0 x16!
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
Case: BitFenix Merc Alpha
MB: MSI Z68A-G43 (G3) BIOS upgraded to 5.2
CPU: Intel 2500K 3.3GHz OC to 4.5GHz

If someone knows why its on 1.1 and not on 2.0 and knows how to fix it, i wish you could share ur info.

In GPUz look when they are under a load.
Many boards will "clock down" the PCIe lanes when the extra bandwidth is not required. For instance running a benchmark they will be at 3.0 then drop to 2.0 or something at idle. In your case, 2.0 being the max, it wouldn't surprise me if they or the slave card alone dropped to 1.0 at idle.
If your after a little more reading...not a huge difference between the 3 iterations of PCIe.

MSI Z68A-G43 (G3) flash Bios problems to 4.2

I used the M-flash from Bios, after update it was reboot. Computer died and did not start again. I tried to use the ClearCmos opction, but this didn't help.

Z68a-g43 g3 will not power on

brand new equipment for new build.
Motherboard: z68a-g43 g3
Both CPU & RAM are listed as compatible...
Processor: i7-3770
RAM: Corsair DDR3 32GB (8GB x4 sticks)
I have tried with full system, on ESD mat with minimal CPU, 1 Stick RAM (slot 1 per manual)
Nothing is displayed, no sound.
Powers up for 4 seconds - CPU and system fans spin
Powers off for 4 seconds
cycles through the power on and off until i pull the power
Any ideas on what the issue is?

Kind of iritating that the motherboard vendor lists all the CPUs it supports with no mention of having to first upgrade the BIOS.
I found the cheapest 1155 Sandy Bridge that is on their compatibility list:

Z68A-G43 (G3) - No BIOS - No Video - Fan Runs

I have built many systems over the past 25 years, so I'm no newbie.
At first the system starts, but there is no BIOS, and the CPU Fan stops after 2-3 seconds. Then it restarts by itself, stops, etc.
There is nothing installed but the PSU, CPU, CPU Cooler, and Memory. The MB is not in a case, but is sitting on clean cardboard.
I have tried brand new Corsair DDR3, new Kingston, 1 stick, 2 stick, 4 stick, no sticks - problem remains.
When I install new Memory, then try to start up, the system lags for 5-6 seconds, as if it is testing the memory to figure out what is present. Then the Fan runs, stops, runs again, etc.
I have removed the PSU and all its cables, and shorted the CMOS for several seconds. I have removed the PSU, then the Battery entirely, and shorted the CMOS. Nothing helps.
I'm out of ideas.
I have also tried two Monitors, both known to be good.
I plan to try another new PSU, but hold little hope that the PSU is the issue. It is a Corsair 430W, and should have no problem running the MB, PSU, and Memory.
I have no Optical Drive, no HD installed.

Z68A-G43(g3) issues with the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000

Hello,
we've buils a new PC with the MSI Mainboard Z68A-G43(G3) and the PC hangs on the start with the code 92. We noticed that the issue is caused by some USB device. After many tests we found out that when the MicroSoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 v2 is connected to the computer, it stops to start.
The keyboard is connected through the Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1 to the USB, which is used to connect the mouse as well.
I'd like to use the kb + mouse set, how can I fix the issue.
Also, I tried to update BIOS via the Live Update, and it's not working, the BIOS download fails.
Any help is welcome.

The BIOS is 4.10.
Also I forgot one note, the KB is working, but only when it's connected alone. When we connect to USB port another device (Flash Drive, USB Wireless, ...) the PC won't start. When the KB is removed, the PC starts without any problem.
Also another note, when the KB was connected and the Zyxel Wireless PCI adapter was connected, PC doesn't start, when KB is disconnected, PC starts.
So there seems to be some issue with the MS device.

Msi z68a-g43(g3) sli

i read that it only has cfx support and not sli. i was wondering if there was a way to configure it to be able to use sli? perhaps a bios update of sorts. (im cheap and want to sli 2 gtx 550ti's)

SLI is not possible on this board. Nvidia doesn't allow SLI on boards not offering x8/x8 minimum for both slots used for the video cards. On Z68a-g43 (g3) it is X16/x4 so second slot is insufficient. The Nvidia driver does therefor not enable SLI and there is no way to enable it.

I just built this computer two months ago and it was running perfect. Then I started getting a black BIOS screen when ever I turned the computer on. It said "Warning! Previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." This confused me because I have never put it into overclock. Soon after when I tried to turn my computer back on it would not boot. It tries to boot up several times and only the fans spin. The only way to stop it is to turn the power switch on the psu off. After all this occurred my psu would no longer work either. I sent both my mobo and psu in for warranty and just now got the new ones back. I put it all together and it was working perfectly. A few days later the same message came up again "Warning! The previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." I reset it to the defaults and all the BIOS are updated but it has happened again. My computer will no longer start up but my psu is still functioning at least this time. I have reset the CMOS, tried one stick of RAM, took the comp apart made sure everything was firmly in place and put it back together, and tried unplugging everything but the basics but still the same issue fans run and it keeps trying to start up over and over and never boots. I refuse to believe that this mobo is broken because it is brand new. I was wondering if there is some sort of compatibility issue or voltage problem but I can't figure out what to do. Please someone give me some help. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks but I finally figured out the problem. The socket is set to 1333MHz and I have my RAM at 1600MHz. I just had to manually clock it higher becasue that is overclocked.

Z68A-G43 - Bios shows cpu temperature incorrectly - noisy fan - SOLVED

I have i7-2600 + Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro rev.2 and when I use Z68A-G43 (G3), the cpu temperature shown in the bios is around 20 degrees higher ( 52-53 degrees C ) , than while I am using the same components on MSI H67MA-E35 or Asus P8H61M-LE/USB3 (30 -32 degrees in both cases ) !
I use the same thermal paste and the cpu & heat sink are definitely seated properly.
The on-board sensors are fine as when Windows is loaded, programs like HWINFO, PCWizard show the right, much lower temperature .
It wouldn't bother me that much since I know that nothing is getting overheated (the heat sink is cold ) ,however, the higher bios indications make the cpu fan spinning much faster ( 2000 rpms + ), I cannot slow it down thus I get a lot of noise coming out from it .
I updated bios to the newest 2.3 ( btw brilliant tool by Svet ) but there was no improvement, I still get the high temps and no option to control the fan.

This is pretty normal behaviour, my bios temp is ~40°C - 42°C, whilst in Windows the idle temp is ~25°C (depending all on ambient temps).
There are 2 reasons given, which one is correct or if they are both correct, I dont know, but they told me that in BIOS, the cpu utilization is much higher then in idle Windows desktop and/or it is as Jack already described, that powersaving options are not enabled in BIOS, but doing such a good thing in Windows, that the cpu drops its temps significantly.
The reason for the higher BIOS temp then others, can be in the cpu itself, some are just plain hotheads, or have flaky temperature sensors, for instance one core of my cpu will always be at 62°C max, while the other three peak at ~71°C, it just will not go over 62°C.
