Z68A-GD55(G3) 2700K support

Having the exact same issue with the same spec's (i7 2700k), but can't get the board to flash. It will not find the BIOS file in the root of my flash drive. It's very strange. I have tried several flash drives with the same problem. Would leaving the two sticks of ram instead of just one (as you instructed) cause this issue? At work right now and it just dawned on me that I might have left the second stick in DIMM slot 2 when I tried to flash it.

Sorry for the confusion, I have the G3 board, but pretty sure the i7 2700k is supported http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z68A-GD55--G3-.html#/?div=CPUSupport
but yes if I put the RAM in DIMM slots 1 and 3 it will not boot...put them in 1 and 2 and it will....I was under the impression that if the RAM is dual channel it must go in the 1 and 3 slots....

    I'm planning to buy a MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard and a Intel i7 2700k CPU but now is my question? Does this combo work out of the box on this motherboard because I read the i7 2700k needs Bios version N2 to work properly?
    What if an older Bios version is present on the Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard? Will it boot then so I can flash a new Bios on it or will it not run at all?

    We can only speculate on that, but chances are pretty good, as the 2700K and 2600K are very similar. My suspicion is that it may only have minor voltage algorithm changes for differing load conditions.
    You will need to test it when you get it. If it works and its stable, then no problem.
    Alternatively, if you feel uncomfortable, you can always take it to a local PC shop and ask their assistance in using a compatible CPU to flash the BIOS.
    One of our users changed to a 2700K with the GD80 board and it did work. He did a BIOS flash afterwards.
    Test it when you get it.

  • Core i7 2600k and msi z68a-gd55 b3 acting up and lagging on me

    HI, I just built a new gaming rig and for the life of me, I can't figure out why im getting lag and im not impressed coming from a P4 Dual core.. OK here's my setup
    Core 17 2600k with CoolMaster Heat Sink
    MSI Z68A-GD55  B3 mobo
    4x4gb DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance Ram 9-9-9-24 Total 16Gbs
    EVGA GTX 560TI 2Gb Video Card
    CORSAIR GAMING SERIES 800 Watt 65a on the 12v Rail
    (ONLY USING ONE HDD    GOT 2 HDD'S TO TROUBLESHOOT TO SEE IF ITS THE HDD)
    CURRENTLY IN USE FOR MAIN HDD   1 Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm 1TB HDD
    1 Western Digital Cavier Black 7200 rpm 2TB HDD
    Running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    So i install the OS and updated all my drivers and for all hardware and updated the BIOS and i got everything stock in the BIOS, No overclocking yet and when im just surfing the web or open up an app, I get this annoying lag and my CPU load and Memeory load will be at 0-5% and it will effing lag... Now i changed out everything thinking it was the problems, down to the Ram 3x's, CPU 1x, Motherboard 3x's (I'm even coming from a different board thinking, that was the the problem. Since i read alot of bad reviews on it.. AN INTEL DP67BG Extreme Series board and come over to the MSI im currently using ) and  my PSU 1x.. and nothing fixed it.. When i run a CPU Stress test it comes back with no ERRORS... Now when i do a Memory Test in the BIOS of the mobo.. It will PASS, no problem.. but if i run it in MEMTEST86 it will FAIL right away.. Then when i test each stick 1 by 1 in BIOS they PASS, NO PROBLEM, But not in Memtest86... So i bought 2 Pairs of 4 new sticks 2 different times.. the same kind of Ram, "which are compatible with this board" and the same thing happens with the lastest MSI BIOS i'll test them with the Memory Tester From BIOS, all 4 sticks and 1 by 1 and then 2 sticks for dual channel in slot 1 nearest CPU and slot 3 and they will PASS but when i try with Memtest86 they FAIL... So i dont think its the Ram cuz 3 different sets are Failing... i  highly doubt it's hardware anymore...  Agree?
    Can someone PLEASE HELP ME..! I've been working on this build for 2 straight weeks day and night and i have a bad taste in my mouth over this build. this isnt my first one either and i never, never, ever had theses problems before... i'm about to quit and go back to a p4 dual.. But i don't like to quit and want to feel the power of a i7 2600k that everyone swears by...

    ok so the WD is still doing it but not as bad as the seagate was! as for UEFI/BIOS im on 22.8 loaded with default setting except for the dram voltage now, and it was set at 1.4 something i changed it to 1.5 like you said and that help some but i still get lag here and there showing up when moving the mouse with is a microsoft wireless 4000
    update so after setting it to 1.52v in bios im noticing  when typing i get freeze up with the cursor and when i open apps the hour glass is appearing at longer then normal even for a p4 chip
    any other ideas why is this becoming a nightmare with my hardware can you give me a run down on what everything should be set to in bios.. cuz it looks like default settings are off and im having video card issues but that's for another forum but im thinking they all tie in together..

    Just bought a new MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) and flashed to latest official BIOS 23.6. This mobo supports 2133Mhz but my new Corsair 2133Mhz doesnt work no mater what i set it up in bios except 1333Mhz??

    My new PC works in default state/1333Mhz but not in 2133Mhz. Any tips?

    Not quite right. The memory controller is inside the processor, not the mainboard.  According to Intel specifications, the native supported maximum is DDR3-1333.  Everything above that has to be considered overclocking and therefore not necessarely stable.

    Go lower for testing:  try DDR3-1600, DDR3-1866 etc, memory voltage 1.65V, command rate = 2T, play around with the other timings to find out what works and what not.

  • Slow POST [ MSI Z68A-GD55 (B3) ]

    The motherboard Z68A-GD55 (B3), with each start, during Power On Self Test about 20-30 seconds detect the USB device (screen code B4 - USB Hot Plug). By disconnecting all external devices was found that such a large delay occurs only because of a web-camera (Logitech C910 HD Pro). All other peripherals - keyboard, mouse, printer - to be detected immediately, B4 code does not appear on the screen.
    All devices are connected to the ports USB2.0
    This same a web-camera in the other two motherboards with standard AMI BIOS (not EFI) does not cause any problems with the detection of USB devices.
    Updating the BIOS from version 22.3 to 22.5 gave no result.
    I have to manually disconnect / connect the camera.
    Do you plan to fix this error in new versions of BIOS?

    POST also runs slowly if at any port plugged USB Flash Disk (manufacturers Samsung, Transcend, Pretec).

  • Z68A-GD55 G3 Virtu Trial Version

    Virtu seems to be the Trial Version on this board. I have tried installing 1.2.102, 1.2.106 and 1.2.108 and all three are Trial Versions.
    The latest revision of Virtu from Lucid is 1.2.106 but I was able to download 1.2.108 from the MSI driver download page.
    I flashed to the latest BIOS as well which is 7681 v23.2. There are Virtu settings selectable in the BIOS too.
    In the 1.2.108 Release Notes, Z68A-GD55 G3 is not listed as a tested platform only Z68A-GD80 and Z68MA-ED55 are but my other ASRock board works with Virtu flawlessly.

  • Z68A-GD55 (G3) Keyboard+freezing issues

    Hi, I've had issues for a long time with my computer locking.
    It's a bit random but mostly locks during desktop usage an not during gaming.
    It will lock sometimes if I leave the computer on and going away for a couple of hours.
    However it wont lock always. Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Also I have a Qpad MK-85 keyboard that my BIOS won't recognize.
    (It works when I'm in windows but not during boot.)
    So I'm wondering if I can make a bios update that will support it. If so which BIOS?
    And how do I go about updating it? I read some stuff but I can't understand exactly how to go about it now with ME7 and ME8 and stuff.

  • Z68A-GD55 (B3) + 2600K unstable at stock speeds

    First time posting in here guys so please forgive me if this has been covered before. I tried searching but couldn't find any info on the B3 and similar issues.
    I'll try and keep this as brief as possible. Basic specs are as follows:
    Z68A-GD55(B3)
    i7-2600k
    AX850 PSU
    Kingston 4x2GB DDR3 1333MHz (9-9-9-24) (I am unsure of the specific model numbers, but can get them today after work if needed)
    EVGA GTX 465 (was x2 in SLI, but I think the 2nd card died very shortly after building this PC on Friday 3/23) (Edit: if this matters I'm on the most current drivers 296.10 but have tried a few others as well)
    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
    All settings are 100% stock out of the box, zero modifications other than setting USB boot priority first.
    My issue is this: The system runs fine 90% of the time, temps are low (idle 28-30c, I've seen max 56c on 1 core) but is just not stable at all when trying to run any type of stress test. I have successfully made it through a 3DMark Vantage run without the system shutting down, but any time I try and run Prime95, IBT, or Folding@Home the system just shuts down. I initially thought it might have been the factory shipped BIOS so I went through and updated all drivers and BIOS (currently running 22.6) but that did not fix the issue.
    My next thought was that the RAM I have is not officially supported by the board, or that I had one or more bad sticks so I ran Memtest v4.20 overnight. Ran for roughly 10hrs and 9 full passes with zero errors. I'm still kind of leaning towards this being a possible issue so I went ahead and went through the supported memory list, picked out some G.Skill Sniper 2x4GB (F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 from Newegg) which should be here by Weds/Thurs. As I said, I'm not exactly sure what model the Kingston RAM is but I can find out as soon as I get home. The only other thing I noticed was that the BIOS has it running at something like 1.4xx volts and normal timings when the recommended voltage is 1.5V.
    The main thing that has me so confused is that I am able to download things, watch movies, and ran 3DMark Vantage without any issues. Prime95 causes an instant crash as soon as CoreTemp shows 100% load on all cores. I did an open & run on Intel Burn Test and got through 9 of 10 passes at standard settings, started typing to my buddy who was helping me diagnose that it passed IBT just as the 10th test was about to finish and the system shut down. I am open to any and all suggestions from you guys, I've tried just about everything I could think of short of swapping out the memory. Thoughts/suggestions anyone?
    (I can post the windows/minidump files later tonight as well if needed. When the system shuts down I don't see any BSOD, just total power off, and a new minidump file when I reboot)

    Mike, couple of things that you may want to attend to.
    1. Did you do a full CMOS clear after the BIOS flash ? If not, do it. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
    2.  Increase the DRAM voltage manually. Some P67 and Z68 boards have a tendency to apply a slightly too low voltage.
         Suggest you set it manually to 1,575 for now. That should give you an applied ~1,55-1,56V. This you can later reduce gradually if you find it to be a cause.
         Together with this, only insert one mem module into the slot closest to the CPU, and test one of the initial mem modules first and then the newer one that you bought.
         Do your stress testing with only one module and see what it does.
    3. If the above fails, do a full CPU socket inspection. Bent pins on these sockets are frequent and have been the cause of numerous frustrating anomalies. No doubt, you would have found a couple of the threads where they were mentioned and fixed by straightening the culprit pins.

  • Updating Z68A-GD55 to ME8 with 32nm cpu

    Board: Z68A-GD55 (MS-7681) 4.0
    UEFI: American Megatrends Inc. V23.1 08/01/2011
    3.30 gigahertz Intel Core i5-2500K 32nm architecture.
    So my bios does not work with the gtx970, it still boots but in order to access it I need to update so it will support the card. Since I'm trying to overclock the CPU the bios could be quite useful, however I notice that on the update page msi only recommend going to ME8 with 22nm cpu. Is this simply because they see it as a redundant update otherwise or will it actually cause problems
    The alternative is that I just wait a lifetime for the error splash screen to clear every time I boot and when I want to access the bios I change my graphics card over. This is obviously a pain in the ass but it's better than having a motherboard that won't work with my cpu.

    A BIOS update on that board will make your overclocking of your 32nm (Sandybridge) CPU very limited to only the multiplier everything else will be very restricted and your overclock will be limited as a result as upping the voltage to it will be very minimal! (also the multiplier will be a little bit more restrictive too)
    so its upto you if you want to try and update the board (NOTE: The update will make it so its impossible to roll back to a ME7 version)

  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 with MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard

    I have seen a similar issue here that was resolved with the help of this forum. (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251322.0). I still want to ask my questons however, since I have a slightly different situation.
    I recently bought a new Graphics card, a MSI GTX 970, to replace my older EVGA GTX 570. After installing it, the time it takes to startup the computer is quite a bit longer. The very begninning of the startup process is the part that takes longer, I see a black screen and "B2" in the lower right hand corner, with the older GPU this was seen for a few seconds but now it stays that way for about a minute. After that I see some random colors in stead of the MSI logo and then the regular "Starting Windows" image appears, from there the startup is as fast as before.
    When the computer has started it seems to work perfectly, and the new graphics card is great, everything on "ultra" in games etc.
    I guess the way to resolve this issue is to update BIOS. I am a bit afraid of this however, of the risk of destroying something.
    What would be your suggestions? Is it better to update bios or to leave it as it is, since the computer works? Are the any risks with keeping this bios version, that seems to have some issue with the graphics card?
    Any help would be greately appreciated!

    Ok, thanks for the advice.
    I have started looking at the instructions and have downloaded the installer and the bios file. It seems Norton Internet Security has some problem with the installer.  When I start the installer it reaches the point when it shows the current bios version, after that it is interupted by Norton. The reason that Norton gives is that it has found something called "Suspicious.Cloud.9.B" in the file b4.bks. How should I react to this?

  • Z68A-GD55 G3 -- how do you get it to boot with 4 DIMMs installed?

    Howdy folks,
    I am really hoping that someone here can enlighten me on this magical BIOS setting that allows you to boot this unit up with all 4 DIMM slots populated?  I have scoured the dark corners of the interwebz trying to figure this out and it completely eludes me, I even read the manual cover to cover... all I can find is a couple posts where people have updated the bios or went into the bios and changed a setting allowing them to escape the reboot loop that I get with all four memory slots filled.... the unit boots just fine with two DIMMs installed and it doesn't matter which two... I found this on a post but nothing else:
       "One more thing, it wouldn't boot with four RAM-sticks out of the box, but it worked fine to start with only 2 RAM-sticks and use F1 to change bios-settings. After doing it that it had no problem with 4 RAM-sticks."
    Take from: Google search "Z68A-GD55 megathread" since I can't post external links, the author of the article is "the Squonk"

  • Z68a-GD55 Overclocking issues (OC settings not working on reboot)

    Hi all; 
    Quick synopsis of my issue - Z68A-GD55 board, I5-2500k chip;  overclocking the CPU to 4.2 Ghz, bios version .50 according to Live Update 5 scans.   Whenever I reboot my machine,  the CPU returns to default settings (Intel quick boost,  chip running at 16x multiplier idle, 33x under load instead of 42x constantly).  I don't know why the overclocking settings won't affect my machine after reboot.   I've tried updating the bios to .60 via Live Update, but it doesn't seem to take.  When I look in the BIOS settings, it still looks like my OC settings are there, but the CPU still only runs at 33x.  Any hints / help?

    This is what I've tried so far for overclocking settings :
    1) Set the multiplier to something close to the base setting;  say x38. No Voltage changes.    Boot into windows, stress test with prime 95; everything looks ok.  Reboot the machine,  and the system acts as if the multiplier is still x33, even though the BIOS reads x38.
    2) Using the OC Genie to test;  this sets the multiplier to x42, CPU Voltage to 1.350 (and a few other settings I don't have access to at work, at the moment).   Boots fine into windows, passes prime 95 tests;  I've played BF3 for hours at this setting.   I reboot, system runs as if the BIOS were back at default. 

  • Faulty Z68A-GD55?

    I have a MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) that I think is unstable.
    Woke up on Sunday morning, computer was hanging(only the mouse moving) with 1 core@100%
    Various different bluescreens, all with different faults each time.
    The PC when it works, will hit 1hr in idle, browsing then hang.
    Everytime it hits 1hr, it hangs.
    Will play games as long as it's less than an hour, but if you try a second game, it hangs.
    Trying to save any settings in the bios(actual), it hangs.
    In windows, it will let you change bios settings, sometimes.
    2500K @ 4.5GHz- now at stock
    16Gb- now 1 4Gb stick
    Everything removed from USB's, booted with just a PS2 mouse(brought in to test, never used before)
    All HD's removed bar Windows HD(sweparate backup HD used, still same result)
    Internal USB headers removed
    GPU's removed
    Sound card removed
    PSU swapped out
    Latest bios installed and attempted to clear the cmos, but settings look to be the same after clearing cmos.
    Tried running in 1 core, same result.
    It can only be the cpu or MB, but as it hangs in the actual mb bios when you try to save any settings, I would tend to think it's the MB.
    Any help or ideas.
    Must add that this systems been up and running since September and never skipped a beat, 100% stable until Sunday morning.

    From your comments I see you did run it at 4,5GHz previously. Any recollction of the applied voltages at that time ?  What cooling did you use ?
    It could very well be that either your CPU or your MB may have suffered deterioration because of the OC.
    The best would be to test the CPU on another known working system and see what happens.
    Alternatively, test a known good CPU on your MB and check the results.
    You don't state all your components, like GPUs and so on and the PSU. >>Posting Guide<<  It could also be your PSU that may have developed a fault and is not supplying clean power anymore.
    With just one mem stick, do a full CMOS clear with PSU power cord removed and retest in bare bones condition. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<

  • Z68A GD55 Won't start

    Hi all I just bought myself a new system..
    MB: Z68A GD55
    CPU: Intel i5 2500k 3.3ghz
    GPU: GTZ 570 HD
    Memory: 8GB DDR3
    Akasa colling fan
    And a new 800 watt PSU
    I have put together my last three PC's with no problems but I can't get this one to work, here is the problem..
    When I plug my CPU power cable in and turn the system on nothing happens apart from 1 single blue light from the CPU monitor thing (sorry forgot name)
    I stripped everything out of the Motherboard and the same happened, now here is the weird part I decided not to plug the CPU cable in and the fan turned for 5 seconds then stopped and I got the same single blue light from the CPU indicator.
    I even tried using the Intel colling fan but it didn't help, the motherboard is not touching the case as I have clips for it and it powers up.

    With a strong light and a magnifier, a bit of patience, good eyes and a very small flat screw driver, you could probably bend them back into position.

  • Z68A-GD55 (G3) – massive voltage problem

    alright, maybe the title is a bit misleading but, in my opinion, so is ClickBIOS II.
    My mainboard is MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) (MS-7681 VER: 4.0; E7681IMS V23.7), CPU is Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Processor (stock clock), DRAM is Corsair® Vengeance® Low Profile 16GB (1600MHz running @ SPD 1333MHz 9-9-9-24, 1.5V), PSU is Corsair® Professional Series™ Gold AX850, OS is Microsoft® Windows® 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64-bit.
    Now, if you take a look at this snapshot of my mainboard's UEFI:
    you will surely notice that when the CPU I/O Voltage setting is set to [Auto], the mainboard reads the respective voltage as 1.360 V.
    Exploring the official 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ Processor Family Desktop, Intel® Pentium® Processor Family Desktop, and Intel® Celeron® Processor Family Desktop Datasheet, Volume 1 (http://intel.ly/AuRtAr), one discovers that the maximum DC Voltage Specification for VCCIO is 1.0815 V.
    Now, my questions are as follows:
    1a. What is the CPU I/O Voltage?
    1b. Is the CPU I/O Voltage VCCIO?
    1c. Is my CPU I/O Voltage default value not absurdly high and outside of official Intel® specifications?
    2a. What is PCH 1.05?
    2b. Is PCH 1.05 VCCIO?
    3.  Is the CPU Core Voltage VCC?
    4.  Is the DRAM Voltage VDDQ?
    5.  Is the GPU Voltage VAXG?
    6.  Is the System Agent Voltage(SA) VCCSA?
    7.  Is the CPU PLL Voltage VCCPLL?

    PCH 1.05 is not the same as CPU I/O 1.05, and is not Vccio. I set my I/O manually to 1.07 which gives me 1.056v's. 1.360v's for CPU I/O is a bit much for an un OC'd state. Since your mainboard has V-Checkpoints, I highly recommend to invest in a digital multimeter and check the voltages. Takes the guesswork out of it, and settings can be accurately measured and set. If you also notice on your screenshot, DRAM V. is way below what it should be as well. Setting it to 1.521v's usually brings it up at the V-Checkpoint as 1.504v's or so.
    Not sure about the graphics recommended voltage range. Never checked on it since I use a discrete VGA and have all that disabled. PCH V. will be in the Cougar Point chipset datasheet, not in the CPU datasheet. My best guess is the 0.93 is the graphics.
