Z68a gd65 g3, i2600k help please

Trying to iron out bugs, I have bounced between throttling, or mem errors reported from IBT or Memtest.
Cured mem errors from memtest (was failing test 3 and 5) with a dram voltage bump.
Cant seem to get this stable for IBT, and it should be cakewalk, assuming nothing is fried.
Pwr Supply : XFX Black Edition 850w
MB : Z68A GD65 G3
CPU : i2600k
RAM : 2 x 4GB Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 (8-8-8-24-2T stuff)
CPU HSF : Venomous X, 2 x 108cfm fans in push pull
GFX Cards : 2 x evga gtx 470 w/Vantec hsf on both cards (have not begun to mess with gfx oc this build)
Goals : 4ghz 24/7 stable lowest temps possible under load, HT on, and go from there.
Considering in a HAF 922, and CPU HSF is decent, I had expected eventually to get to 4.4 and stay under 65c, somewhere around 1.3 vcore tops. I cant even get 4g stable. I have read some other threads here and tried settings, but not getting there on my own. Please help meh

I had not tried the auto oc yet, I will give it a try.
I have been experimenting with the 2 newer bios files posted on msi site, not quite getting there.
How is the auto oc feature with respect to voltages, and will it allow turbo/speedstep to function ?
Just got done setting up for a family member, with a 2500k, on a <competitor> <<-self censor z68 board, using c9 gskill and a downdraft style cpu fan.
No trouble at all to get it running @ 4ghz, full load using 1.21vcore, and it stays 55-57 w one oddball core hitting 61.
Of course, big differences are 999 vs 888 ram, 2 2gb sticks vs my 2 4gb, and I have HT. I did have to set manual vcore "fixed 1.22" on that setup, since it would run fine on "auto" voltage for cpu, but that board gave it ludicrous vcore on auto, well over 1.35, and of course allowing vdroop meant too low.
For oc genie, do you refer to button on mb, or the bios tab ? I have not messed with either. As long as temps are ok and voltages are not crazy on the auto oc, 4.2 would do nicely for the time being, until i can find more info. I would like to make sure all is well and stable, before I try popping in SSD I have sitting here. I do not want to go through trouble of fresh install, etc, just to realize im borked anyhow due to not understanding the sandybridge, or some quirk of bios/ram/etc etc.

edit: i have not yet tried relaxing ram timings or running it at 1333, could that be the issue ? Id rather keep 888, than 1600 mhz, if i had to choose
edit #2 - Specifics on what I think is "wrong" : 1) Prime 95 Blend - CPUZ shows consistent 40x multi, Prime 95 Inplace large FFT (max power heat test) shows throttling down as far as 35x, never seen any system do that to me. 2) No errors in memtest but IBT crashes on 3rd run, set at 8 threads, custom 2560mb test
Just realized I did not completely clean off remnants of previous manufacturers MB (also z68, but doa ram channel A), I could see that causing instability, but not throttling. Still I feel like a tool for not wiping the OS partition and going clean, so ill be doing that immediately. Please in the mean time, toss me the tips, or a link to the "read this ya nub" thread :P.

Z68A GD65 G3/i2600k - is SLI on 1 monitor, run 2nd monitor on IGD possible

Typically I only use 2nd monitor for reference, chat, etc during a game.
I cannot get 2xGTX 470 to run 1 and only the 1 monitor, and the IGD HD3000 to run monitor #2.
Is that because we cannot do so, and virtu only allows for switching ?
Small hit, if any, I thought I had read that old limitation of using either/or was gone with Z68... wishfull thinking ?

Probably wishful thinking. Only two choices, PEG or IGD. Virtu switching won't work when in an SLI configuration if my Z68A-GD80(G3) is any example.

I've pressed shift+f10 at this same screen, "diskpart">"select disk 0" (my 5TB partition)>"convert gpt"
when I click drive options and format I don't get the proper ESP and MSR partitions created (like I see here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html)
if i install windows without clicking format, the drive gets formated as ntfs
I know this is a bit old, but if you can provide any help that would be GREATLY appreciated. I have been struggling w/ this for way too many hours. For something they put on the box you'd think it'd be easier to accomplish.

Z68A-GD65 Hangs in UEFI *Help wanted*

Hi there! im new to this forum.
I just bought myself an Z68A-GD65, and first thing i noticed was the bios revision was really old, so i updated to the latest version.
Now i wanted to try some overclocking, i went into bios and upped the multiplier and the voltage, pressed save and exit and UEFI froze, however, the temperatures were still monitoring and updating on the side?? but i couldnt do anything. Had to shut down PC on the button.
I went into UEFI again after reset and i see the changes did not apply, so i load defaults, press save and exit, and UEFI froze again, now i cannot save and exit at all.
What should i do? reflash ? something is obviously wrong....
Help plz
EDIT: It seems the problem was the new N7 bios, i flashed to the older N4 and now it works just fine.
The motheboard came with N2.

I am trying to troubleshoot this problem now, step by step, im changing 1 thing in UEFI, save and exit, booting into windows, rebooting and changing 1 thing again.
Its gonna take some time, but hopefully i can find whats causing the UEFI freeze.
Here is the steps i took immidietly before:
1. Changed the boot order to SSD first, enabled hot swap on sata port1(recommended by MSI according to the site), rest disabled.
2. Changed to AHCI
3. Disabled onboard LAN and External SATA 6gb/s
4. Changed to XMP and manually set DRAM voltage to 1.652v.
5. Saved and exited.
6. Went into windows, rebooted, changed 1 random setting (didnt matter what) and UEFI freeze upon pressing "Save and Exit"
Clear CMOS > Solved problem, i now can change the settings again, until i find whatever is it from that list that is causing the UEFI to freeze.
Question: what is Eco mode and standard mode? im always changing the settings in Standard mode.
EDIT: The problem seems to be related to the "Advanced Settings" section in the UEFI, which includes the settings : to disabling the onboard LAN + external sata 6gb/s and changing the boot order and enabling hot swap.
The problem is in other words related to the onboard lan disable, external sata 6gb/s, changing boot order or enabling hot swap on sata port1. So i left those 4 things at default and it appears its working now since i have now rebooted and saved & exited bios many times since i decided to narrow this problem down.
I have now successfully done the following to help out with the OC:
Disabled: EIST, Speedstep, Turbo boost, EuP2013, C-state, Overspeed protection, C1E Support, Power technology, Spread Sectrum.
Enabled: Internal PLL Overvolt and XMP profile.
Manually: Set memory voltage to 1.652v, CPU voltage to 1.325v (doin OCCT linpack right now, seems stable so far)
Using BCLK: 100.2 (10010 in bios) to compensate up from 99.8mhz.
Will get back soon.
EDIT2: BSOD after 50mins OCCT at 4.5ghz 1.325v, backed off the BCLK increase from 100.2 to default 99.8, and upped volts to 1.330v, if its stable, im backing off volts to 1.325 again and running again.
Also tried to disable onboard LAN, disable serial port, UEFI still functions properly. It seems the problem is caused by enabling Hot Swap.
Question: what should i put PLL volt on?

the OC menu has new options and my OC don't go above 4.2Ghz

core ratios=45
what would you recomend me set in Long duration power, maintained, short duration etc?
because the OC only goes to 4.2Ghz.

As you said, there is a problem with the BIOS version. I tried to overclock with CPU Ratio method, unsatisfactorily. setting the CPU Ratio at 40 the system fail.
I recently tried with OC Genie Button, but the Frecuency doesn't go above 3.7Ghz, but the CPU Ratio Limit is set in 42.

Z68a-gd65 (G3) + 280x = no signal

I bought this new gpu XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Edition (R9-280X-TDFD) and when i plug it and power on my pc the fans start running and all led's is on but there is no signal output to my monitor.
I have tried changeing pcie-slot and i have made sure several times that its pluged in correctly and i have also tried different cables (dvi, dp and hdmi).
I've found severel others with the same problem by using google and its seem like most of them was helped by updating bios on their motherboard, which in my case is MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3). But i have also tried this but its still not working. (v. 25.8 from msi webpage)
At this point I decided too try it out using an other computer with a new 4970k I7 from intel and a newer motherboard and it worked instantly and fine. But when i connect it in my pc again : NO SIGNAL.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Do i need an other version of bios?
I've also seen others with this problem that solved it by a simple bios update + switching from UEFI to LEGACY on the GPU (but my graphiccard does not have that switch).
Please help me! My 26 year old hair is turning gray.

MSI Z68A-GD65 (B3) Continuous Boot Cycle

My Mainboard was running flawlessly, but yesterday when power on the system...I found that Continues boot cycle.
The computer turns on for a few seconds then powers off. This cycle repeats every 5-10 seconds.

I have tried clearing CMOS, swapped the psu, cpu, rams...and also tried with one ram stick at first slot near cpu and at at all other memory slots...but no success and same repeated automatic boot cycle every 5-10 seconds or so...

Could you clarify this a little? You mean the BIOS LED stays full off, or it is on steady?

Power on-off-on Problems with New Build Z68A-GD65(G3)

I'm hoping someone has seen these issues and can help me, although I realize this is a vague issue. I'm working on a new build. On power up everything looks good but then I get a power off and back on (like a reset). Sometimes it happens very quickly; other times it will stay on for roughly 5-10 minutes before the reset. I've checked all the connectors, case wires look ok, BIOS info looks correct.
The other issue is that when I tried to do the Win 7 install, it loads the files, goes to the "Starting Windows" screen, and freezes there (until the next power off problem shuts things down).
Any ideas on what to try to narrow things down? Seems like it almost has to be the power supply or motherboard?

I've disconnected everything but the mouse, keyboard and monitor and still have the power resets.
Tried one memory module at a time... still fails.
Played with lower memory freq settings... still fails.
Finally pulled the MB out, bench tested it to rule out shorting in the case; tried it with and without other peripherals... still fails.
I think I'll RMA the MB, although I suppose it could be the psu (unlikely, I'd think).
I had two bad motherboards in my last build. I had hope that MSI would be better...

Z68A-GD65 G3 Reboot Loop

I'm putting together a new build and I've run into a reboot loop. When I attempt to start it up, it runs for about 5 seconds, then turns off. This goes on in an endless loop. It never gets to POST. The 6 LEDs light up and the BIOS ones don't (so this appear normal). I have never gotten a successful bootup.
My setup:
Motherboard: Z68A-GD65 G3
CPU: Intel Core i5, i5-2500K
Memory: Kingston HyperX (4x4GB DDR3 - 1600 CL9 240)
Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 850W
CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Gaia SD1283
I am not listing anything else, because I am not getting far enough for it to matter.
I am running with only the above pieces connected to rule out all but the essentials.
I've inspected the CPU and slot. Both appear fine.
I've cleared the CMOS using the button on the I/O panel and removing the battery.
I've subbed out the Power Supply.
Only the 8 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboard connections are made.
I've tried various things with the RAM. All 4, just 2, and just 1 (in the DIMM1 slot). Most testing was done with just 1. I have tried all 4 in the DIMM1 slot.
I've removed it from the case and booted it up in the cardboard box (nonconducting) it came in, to rule out a short.
I've inspected the motherboard carefully, no obvious issues.
I've checked that the CPU cooler is making good contact with the CPU.
I've verified that the OC button is not active, although I've tried that too.
I've read through the forums, but have not been able to find a solution that works.

I had this very same problem with a Biostar T-POWER I55 2 years ago, to cut a story short the retailer and the distributor who handled Biostar RMA's rejected the RMA.
I spoke to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct as I read in the Sales Act that in the first 6 months of a purchase if the damage cannot be proven to be done by the end user then a warranty claim still exists.
Finally after stating this & quoting the Trading Standards Reference number to the retailer, I got a call from them saying they would offer a refurbished motherboard worth £113, my original motherboard cost £138 so I refused this & asked if they would agree if I could purchase a brand new alternative for (£75ish) around 50% of its purchase value to which after another day they rang back & agreed.
You are not the first and won't be the last this has happend too, One manufacturer will cover for warranty in these circumstances because I asked them.
I suppose you could get a 2 year warranty via Amazon, small expense for peace of mind which covers you for Accidental damage as well as mechanical failure, quite good if the motherboard pins snap off the motherboard.

MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 - Performance Issue

It having some performance issue after i updated the bios to new version n.30, before this was original version 23.0 come with motherboard.
I updated the bios using msi live update on yesterday.
What i noticed after updating to new bios, i can feel the performance had drop, when lauching a program, and sometime when typing webpages address or in the google typing word, what happen was the word seem to appearing slow to display. Not sure what happen.
I hope you guys can help me out, and please advise me what to do.

If the system was working, why did you update the BIOS ?
If the previous BIOS worked for you, then flash back to that BIOS. Use the forum flasher >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Once you have flashed the BIOS do a CMOS clear. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<

Z68A-GD65 (G3) very slowly with win8

I have a Z68A-GD65 (G3) MoBo with 16GB DDR3 RAM. While i use win7/64 Ultim., my copy files results partitions to partitions 130-160MB/sec. I install win 8/64 Ultim. my copy results: 50-70 Mb/sec.
I Install the latest win8 drivers from mis official site
What can I do?

MSI Z68a GD65 G3 Buzzing noise of hard drive over speakers

Fractal design define r3 case
Core i7 2600k
2x MSI N460GTX 1Gd5 OC
16 gb DDR3 Ram
Corsair HX 850w PSU
CORSAIR GT3 90 gb ssd
Logitech Z5300 speaker set 5.1
+bunch of samsung 1 tb spinpoints
I noticed when i scrolled with my mouse wheel up or down, i hear a interfering noise low buzzing noise over the speakers 5.1 which are conected to on board sound card.
When i connect my headphone the sound still exists
It also occurs when i start up some applications and the hard drive is busy.
I tried enable/disable eup2013 and c1 and intel c1 etc... nothing works
With or without overclock it doesn matter.
Does anybody have a suggestion how to fix this problem? Thank you! Please help;-)

Sounds like a bad earth somewhere.
Is that a wired mouse ? Have you tried another mouse and keyboard ?
Can you test the board outside the case, on a non-conducting surface. No device used for the test to be mounted in the case.

MSI Z68A-GD65 won't start to bios!

I have problem, heres my pack:

hyperx predator 8gb 2x4gb rams
asus gtx660 pci-e 2gb
2tb seagate
650w corsair
and the problem, i installed up the components today and got it working first without detecting SATA 2tb seagate. Then i switched to all sata ports and the last one 8 and 7 worked fine for seagate and Asus DVD. But now the problem is that it lets me in marvell bios when it shows up the harddisk and dvd, but not in the "primary bios". When it shows the first data, harddisk and dvd, it goes straight to "Warning BIOS ME file not found install on the usb" etc... I dont know what to do because i read all the forums in the internet, wasted 6 hours in investigating internet and found nothing. Have tried the flash utilitys, USB flasher utility found in forums and all... Reseting BIOS didnt help.
Please help, im getting drunk every hour more with this cra*

As i know, the board was in the warranty fix, and became back to shop, where i buyed it. But the shop gave everyone who would buy the board, 6months warranty so i dont think it would be broken.
Also for the flashing, i dont have OS on that system, what we are talking about. And if i download those BIOS from the MSI site, its only EXE? I cant run exe from USB flash when starting PC?

Issue
VGA is not output to the monitor.
It is output properly in Sandy core GPU.

In the BIOS of version 25.8.
It is not possible to set CPU voltage, DRAM voltage, Adjusted CPU Ratio and etc...
Setting the CPU Phase Control are missing.
I've done
I tried all PCIe slots.
I tried with a DVI and HDMI connection cable.
BIOS updated from 23.2(Intel ME7) to 25.8(Intel ME8).
But, it did not work well.
So, I tried to change back to old version BIOS(23.7 or 25.6).
using the MSI HQ USB BIOS Flash Tool, was executed in mode 1.
However, BIOS was not changed.
Please give me advice.

A downgrade requires a special archive. None the less you don't have the same problem as the original poster as the new bios helped there. Try the vga in another system to see if it works at all.
If wanting to downgrade to 23.7 you must use the attached and NOT unpacked archive.
For BIOS Update >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< => Mode 1: Point to archive file!
*NOTE: Make sure you unplug your PSU from A/C power and properly >>Clear CMOS Guide<< after flashing.

The card was already tested with the seller and it works fine so is not the card... please help i don't want to spend more money to change my platform to 1150 socket.
I bet the seller didn't test the card in a PCI-E 2.0 "environment".
Z68, i5-2500K are PCI-E 2.0 (HD6870 is PCI-E 2.1)
AMD Radeon R9 280X is PCI-E 3.0
Many AMD PCI-E 3.0 graphic cards have backward compatibility issues.
That's why I always recommend Nvidia cards for older motherboards and processors.
If your motherboard BIOS is up to date, the next thing to try is to update the VBIOS
(ask the seller if you cannot do it by yourself).
If that doesn't fix the problem, you have 2 options:
- replace the card with a Nvidia one
- keep the card, but replace the processor with a Gen3 one (3770K, 3570K, etc)
