Z68A-GD65 (G3) loses network after reboot

Hey there,
I had to re-install my windows 7 this week and I cant believe I didnt write down the solution to a major problem I remember having before with my network on this board....
With all the latest drivers from the MSI site installed, after every fresh start I lose my network connection, the icon shows a yellow exclamation mark and I have to disable and enable the network connection to make it work again.
Does anyone remember what the hell this problem is?? I can't believe they didn't fix this in the drivers, because its a major problem that has already cost me many hours of troubleshooting last time....I fixed it on my old installation because I have been working for 2 years now , but I dont remember how I fixed it ...
Also, I can't believe that in the official driver section on the MSI site for my board, there are dead links , the link to the W7 64 bits drivers for "Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver for 6x Series " do not work.
Don't I need that?? If not, please remove the link, if I do, please fix it, but its crazy to have this kind of errors on an official site I think...
Marcel

Unbelievable that nobody at MSI seems to know how to solve this , I'm sure I'm not the only one, I've seen people in forums buy an extra network card to resolve this actually....
But for others that encounter this problem too (Or for my own reference when I forget again next year)  I think I solved it myself (again!):
It's the Apple Bonjour service that is installed by Apple products or with for example Adobe products that is causing this.
The solution for me was to go into the services , look for the Bonjour service which is probably the one on top of the list with the ridiculous name that starts with ##id string , looking like a virus.  I swear I have seen it on more than one occasion and feared I had a hackertool installed!
You then set the startup type from 'automatic' to 'automatic delayed', no more problems.....
Apple, be different....lets up peoples windows computers

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) Memory problems after BIOS update

Good day, i'm russian, so sorry for my english.
Friend of mine had MSi Z68A-GD65 (G3), i5-2500K, memory pair 2*2GB with bios 22.8 (latest version with no red letters about ME8 and IvyBridge).
He decided to upgrade the processor to IvyBrydge and updated bios with new ME8. Then the computer went into a state of continue restarting every 3 seconds. After replacing the CPU to the new Ivy - computer works good, the impression is that the computer does not understand Sandy now and switched toIvy. But it has seen only one of memory pair. My friend just bought a new motherboard. Now he has no problems. I took his MB and SandyBridge CPU.
Flashing the bios to the old version by M-Flash - it does not see the BIOS file, although it is there (in the root, FAT, 2G). Flashed it under dos with AFUDE238 with a key -x, it said about mismatched ROM ID. After the old BIOS flashing (with an Ivy) computer went three-second reset mode. CPU changed to Sandy i5-2500K - now works good. By the way, now M-Flash see the firmware on a flash drive - I flashed it again from the M-Flash, just in case, reset the settings.
What is the problem: if I set the memory into the slot 3 or 4, the computer goes into a three-second reboot, it does not matter is the memory in the first two slots or no. If this memory is inserted in the first two slots - all ok. So I work now - in the first two slots with no dual-channel mode.
The feeling is that the problem appeared after first flashing to Ivy and remained after flashing back to Sandy.
Question 1: What to do to get working the memory slots?
Question 2: Is BIOS 22.8 - the latest which I will have with Sandy? (There is a problem now when the computer starts - 1 times out of 10 will not boot - reset is helping, and the BIOS at starting not very fast).
There are posts about people with the same MB and the CPU and the new BIOS (25.2) that supports Ivy. I'm confused. It means I can use the new firmware from SandyBridge. But there are many posts about problems with new firmware. Where is the true?
Just checked BIOS version -  P.1 (25.1) 2012-04-16 - by the way with Ivy support. But I flashed with 22.8, I'm sure. ME version in BIOS isn't shown, but while booting - ME 7.0
What does it mean? Can it be repaired? What should I do?

Thanks to all. My system is working fine now.
What it was. I flashed BIOS with tool from this forum. Bios flashed good, but problem still was here. Then I flashed to the first bios version from support site. And again flashed ok but memory still not working in slots 3 and 4. Then I decided to flash back to last flash with Sandy support 22.8 (or 23.8). Then I flashed to the last bios at all - 25.4. Flashed it from dos - this was pretty long. It rebooted 3 times (ME updated too). I still don't know  - what it was with first flashing to Ivy. Now it's ok.
So I decided the problem is bent pin. With magniglass and needle I've found some uncertain pins (these were not BENT, but slightly bent) and touched these with my needle. And that was the answer. Now all works fine. Thank you all.
On the russian msi forum no one answered and helped me at all.

  • VM Guests coming up with No Network after rebooting.

    Howdy,
We have a random problem in that when we reboot our VM guests, they sometimes come back with no network connectivity at all.  We cannot ping them or remote into them.  When I access them from the console, the Network icon shows the warning symbol
    and says: "No Internet Access".
If I check an ipconfig, it shows a 169 address even though we set static IPs on all our servers.
All I have to do to fix it is Disable and Enable the network adapter from within Windows and then everything goes back to normal.
VM Hosts are running 2012 and Guests are mostly running 2012 R2 if that matters.
Anyone have any idea what would cause this to happen?
    Thanks!

    Hi Kelemvor33,
Did you configure this VM a VLAN option use any advanced NIC option on Hyper-V host or VM, please install the latest update with your Hyper-V host and this vm then monitor this
issue again, from your current description it seems like the known issue and you can install the following KB to solve it.

  • Lose network after upgrade to v.FF1

I'm losing network after upgrading to v.FF1.  At the moment the only way I have found to resolve this is to turn off the device, remove the battery, wait about 30 seconds and then reinsert the battery and turn the phone on.  Sometimes it works for about 8 hours other times only an one or or less before I lose the network again.  Any suggestions?

These problems have been pretty widely reported and discussed after the Stratosphere update. Try looking at the comprehensive thread https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/783651. It's quite long, but connectivity issues are discussed in it.

  • 2008 R2 Unidentified Network after Reboot

    Hi,
We have two new servers running Server 2008 R2 and we first noticed a problem connecting to them with RDP after a reboot.  The problem was the firewall would not permit access because the NLA service could not identify that it was on the local domain
network.  After updating the firmware on the system (HP DL380) and the NIC (Broadcom NC series) and installing the latest NIC driver, we are still experiencing the problem of being able to connect after a reboot.  While I can disable the firewall,
that is not preferred. It also seems to have occurred after installing Hyper-V.  If I remove Hyper-V the problem seems to go away.  Using a single NIC, no teaming, etc.  Other unused NICs are disabled.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Darage,
    Thanks for posting here.
The NLA service is used to determine the network profile. When a machine boots up or comes out of hibernation the NLA service that runs using the Network Service account will send an LDAP bind request to a domain controller in its site via port 389. The Network
Service Account uses the client’s domain machine account when performing this bind. If the client can successfully bind to a DC in its domain, the network connection category will be set to “Domain”. If an LDAP bind is unsuccessful the network category is
always public unless specified as private by the user.
Network Location Awareness Service Provider (NLA)
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms739931(VS.85).aspx
According to the your description, the domain profile is not detected properly. In this case, let’s check the following:
    1.       Verify  the Network Location Awareness service is Started and the Startup type is “Automatic”. Restart the NLA service.
    2.       Disable and re-enable the NIC which connects to the domain network. Meanwhile, please disable the all unused NICs.
    3.       The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service expects to be able to enumerate the domain’s forest name to choose the right network profile for the connection. The service does this by calling DsGetDcName on the forest
root name and issuing an LDAP query on UDP port 389 to a root Domain Controller. The service expects to be able to connect to the PDC in the forest domain. If something hinders the DNS name resolution or the connection attempt to the DC, NLA is not able to
set the appropriate network profile on the connection. Please ensure that the problematic clients can contact root DC properly.

  • MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 Power On after Ac Power loss how to turn it off?

    Hi,
I want my computer to stay off when the power go down. But it is automatically powering on after Ac power loss even though I set in BIOS to stay off. Any ideas? Happened twice already.
    SPECS:
    i5 2500k
    MSI Z68 ZD65 BIOS v23.6
Antec 400W Seasonic S12-II based PSU
Power On After Ac Power Loss Option in bios is "OFF"
    Thanks.

    Quote
    Restore after AC Power Loss
This item specifies whether your system will reboot after a power failure or interrupt
    occurs. Settings are:
[Power Off] Always leaves the computer in the power off state.
[Power On] Always leaves the computer in the power on state.
[Last State] Restore the system to the status before power failure or interrupt
    occurred.
If you have this properly configured as you indicate in your post, try a full cmos clear and set it back and to re-test.
If that is of no help, what bios version do you have installed?

  • Raid mode very slow/ crashing after installing driver (Z68A-GD65 (G3))

I recently purchased a Z68A-GD65 (G3) motherboard, i5-2500K, 8 gb ram, and a Crucial 64GB 4m SSD drive. The intention was to use the SSD drive for Intel Smart Response Tech.
Instructions tell me to place the SATA ports in RAID mode, which I did. During installation of Windows 7 (64-bit), I provided the "F6" raid drivers which installed. After that point, my hard drive (a WD 250GB SATAII drive) begins to perform incredibly slow. Once Windows 7 installs, which takes way longer than it should, Windows has problems booting and won't work properly.
I tried installing Windows 7 without the "F6" raid drive on install and that worked fine. Everything seemed to be working great. I then installed the Intel Rapid Storage Tech software and rebooted. Now my system is acting up again. It takes far longer to boot, it shuts down as soon as it boots, and it has even blue screened on boot. It is very unstable.
My SSD is unplugged during all of this. I'm just trying to get Windows 7 to run properly on my one mechanical drive in raid mode.
Do I have a bad motherboard? Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I'm not using the Marvell ports. The hard drive works fine in IDE/ACHI modes... I've been using it for years.
    Thanks

So it turned out that the issue was the hard drive itself. It had been running flawlessly for years as my system drive. However, the Intel iastor driver exposed a hidden issue with the drive.
I decided to check the Windows system event log for any clues. In there I saw errors with event id 9 on iastor. They were lined up with the times of the hangs and blue screens. Solutions I found online for this issue did not help. Luckily I have two hard drives in my system, although they are both the same model. I moved my data around and clean installed Windows on the other drive instead. The hangs and blue screens are no longer occurring.

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 Reboot Loop

I'm putting together a new build and I've run into a reboot loop.  When I attempt to start it up, it runs for about 5 seconds, then turns off.  This goes on in an endless loop.  It never gets to POST.  The 6 LEDs light up and the BIOS ones don't (so this appear normal).  I have never gotten a successful bootup.
    My setup:
    Motherboard: Z68A-GD65 G3
    CPU: Intel Core i5, i5-2500K
    Memory: Kingston HyperX (4x4GB DDR3 - 1600 CL9 240)
Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 850W
    CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Gaia SD1283
I am not listing anything else, because I am not getting far enough for it to matter.
I am running with only the above pieces connected to rule out all but the essentials.
I've inspected the CPU and slot.  Both appear fine.
I've cleared the CMOS using the button on the I/O panel and removing the battery.
I've subbed out the Power Supply.
Only the 8 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboard connections are made.
I've tried various things with the RAM.  All 4, just 2, and just 1 (in the DIMM1 slot).  Most testing was done with just 1.  I have tried all 4 in the DIMM1 slot.
I've removed it from the case and booted it up in the cardboard box (nonconducting) it came in, to rule out a short.
I've inspected the motherboard carefully, no obvious issues.
I've checked that the CPU cooler is making good contact with the CPU.
I've verified that the OC button is not active, although I've tried that too.
I've read through the forums, but have not been able to find a solution that works.
    Please help.  Thanks.

I had this very same problem with a Biostar T-POWER I55 2 years ago, to cut a story short the retailer and the distributor who handled Biostar RMA's rejected the RMA.
I spoke to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct as I read in the Sales Act that in the first 6 months of a purchase if the damage cannot be proven to be done by the end user then a warranty claim still exists.
Finally after stating this & quoting the Trading Standards Reference number to the retailer, I got a call from them saying they would offer a refurbished motherboard worth £113, my original motherboard cost £138 so I refused this & asked if they would agree if I could purchase a brand new alternative for (£75ish) around 50% of its purchase value to which after another day they rang back & agreed.
You are not the first and won't be the last this has happend too, One manufacturer will cover for warranty in these circumstances because I asked them.
I suppose you could get a 2 year warranty via Amazon, small expense for peace of mind which covers you for Accidental damage as well as mechanical failure, quite good if the  motherboard pins snap off the motherboard.
Click >> SquareTrade 2-Year Warranty Plus Accident Protection (£150-175 Items) £29.99

We have multiple old blue and white systems on a network. All but one will automatically connect to the network when rebooted. I have gone into Chooser, Appletalk, put in the server IP address, put in the server password, checked the boxes that say remember Server name and password for next startup. • Z68a-gd65 boot loop after bios update using USB

    Hi there,
My  z68a-gd65 (G3) went into a boot loop after I did a bios update from a USB key that I installed using the latest BIOS version on the MSI site 7681vP8.zip
After the system restarted, it keeps booting up for 5 seconds and then shutting down, I removed all external devices and the Geforce GTX 550 Ti card and used the onboard card, but still no change...
Is there a way to set the board to factory defaults again???
    Marcel

    Hi there,
Maybe for others to solve the same problem, I found out what was the cause of this problem, I had a USB/Firewire card installed in the PC, after removing it the BIOS update could proceed from the USB stick as planned.
After the update though, my USB/firewire card can still not be installed back into the slot, because doing so will make the boot loop appear again, very odd!
Does anyone know why this new BIOS will not work with the card that has been inside my PC for 2 years???

  • Z68A-GD65 Hangs in UEFI *Help wanted*

Hi there! im new to this forum.
I just bought myself an Z68A-GD65, and first thing i noticed was the bios revision was really old, so i updated to the latest version.
Now i wanted to try some overclocking, i went into bios and upped the multiplier and the voltage, pressed save and exit and UEFI froze, however, the temperatures were still monitoring and updating on the side?? but i couldnt do anything. Had to shut down PC on the button.
I went into UEFI again after reset and i see the changes did not apply, so i load defaults, press save and exit, and UEFI froze again, now i cannot save and exit at all.
What should i do? reflash ? something is obviously wrong....
    Help plz
EDIT: It seems the problem was the new N7 bios, i flashed to the older N4 and now it works just fine.
    The motheboard came with N2.

What does the DRAM V. 'Read Only' voltage read? Might try to set it manually to 1.521v and see if that helps. To really be of help, a full listing of all your systems components will be helpful in troubleshooting. It would also make it a bit easier if the settings you have are listed too. The sub section 'CPU Features' has some settings that can cause problems if not set right as well as in the Eco Section. EuP 2013 should be disabled for example.
I always changed the DRAM Voltage to 1.652 volts, and set the speed with XMP (1600mhz).
    My system specs:
    Intel i5 2500k
    8gb Kingston HyperX 1600mhz CL9 1.65v
MSI Z68A-GD65 (now flashed to the latest bios again)
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 470
    Corsair VX550W powersupply.
    Creative X-FI xtreme gamer soundcard.
D-link DWA-556 xtreme wireless network card.
    Razer Naga molten edition mouse.
    Logitech Ultra X flat keyboard.
I am trying to troubleshoot this problem now, step by step, im changing 1 thing in UEFI, save and exit, booting into windows, rebooting and changing 1 thing again.
Its gonna take some time, but hopefully i can find whats causing the UEFI freeze.
Here is the steps i took immidietly before:
    1. Changed the boot order to SSD first, enabled hot swap on sata port1(recommended by MSI according to the site), rest disabled.
    2. Changed to AHCI
    3. Disabled onboard LAN and External SATA 6gb/s
    4. Changed to XMP and manually set DRAM voltage to 1.652v.
    5. Saved and exited.
    6. Went into windows, rebooted, changed 1 random setting (didnt matter what) and UEFI freeze upon pressing "Save and Exit"
Clear CMOS > Solved problem, i now can change the settings again, until i find whatever is it from that list that is causing the UEFI to freeze.
Question: what is Eco mode and standard mode? im always changing the settings in Standard mode.
EDIT:  The problem seems to be related to the "Advanced Settings" section in the UEFI, which includes the settings : to disabling the onboard LAN + external sata 6gb/s and changing the boot order and enabling hot swap.
The problem is in other words related to the onboard lan disable, external sata 6gb/s, changing boot order or enabling hot swap on sata port1. So i left those 4 things at default and it appears its working now since i have now rebooted and saved & exited bios many times since i decided to narrow this problem down.
I have now successfully done the following to help out with the OC:
Disabled:  EIST, Speedstep, Turbo boost, EuP2013, C-state, Overspeed protection, C1E Support, Power technology, Spread Sectrum.
Enabled: Internal PLL Overvolt and XMP profile.
Manually: Set memory voltage to 1.652v, CPU voltage to 1.325v (doin OCCT linpack right now, seems stable so far)
Using BCLK: 100.2 (10010 in bios) to compensate up from 99.8mhz.
    Will get back soon.
EDIT2: BSOD after 50mins OCCT at 4.5ghz 1.325v, backed off the BCLK increase from 100.2 to default 99.8, and upped volts to 1.330v, if its stable, im backing off volts to 1.325 again and running again.
Also tried to disable onboard LAN, disable serial port, UEFI still functions properly. It seems the problem is caused by enabling Hot Swap.
Question: what should i put PLL volt on?
