Z68A-GD65 (G3) not detecting discrete video

Yesterday I picked up the following:
mobo: msi Z68A-GD65(G3)
cpu: i7 2600k
ram: gskill ripjaws x 2133 mhz
I put my video card that was working just fine in my old system (ati hd 6870) and I cannot get a picture out of it on this new setup. I tried out of the box to just hook up the dvi to the card and didn't get a signal, I went into the bios and tried disabled virtu with the initiate video on peg and that failed, I've tried virtu -d mode as well. The fan is spinning on my gpu. I installed windows on integrated, windows doesn't recognize the card. I tried to install virtu software, which says I don't have a discrete video card. It's essentially viewed as just not there.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Does the BIOS have any options for Discrete video out vs. CPU video out?  Try the DVI/VGA outputs from the MB?
I just got this MB and haven't had time to set it up.  I hope I don't have this problem.
It has the option to, but its not detecting that it's in the slot at all. The onboard/onprocessor video works fine.

This is not just an MSI problem; if you do a search on the web for Z68 and no video out; you will find other motherboards from other companies are having the same issue.  For some people they work just fine and for others they don't.  From what I've read; some have fixed this problem by pulling the battery and doing a bios reset and others this has not worked.  There is some speculation by some; that for some reason the bios is not seeing that there is a graphics card installed in the PCI-e slots and because of this is not turning off the onboard video.  While other people think that it is a problem with the PCI-e slots themselves.
The general idea is that the board gives you an option for which video output to 'primary' - it uses the primary if it's found, and falls back to secondary if not. Everything powers up and fans spin, etc. It's quite annoying. -_-' lol. I'll need to try pulling the mobo battery. Still looking for a fix. Planning to call MSI tomorrow.

You need to refresh the page (F5) to update the items in the download menu. Apparently YouTube refreshes the page in such a way that the extension doesn't gets notified, so you need to refresh the page manually if you want to download a media file from this page.

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) not always finding ocz vertex 3

Me and a friend just bought identical setups, among them was the Z68A-GD65 (G3) motherboard and OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD. Both of us get some random crashes and sometimes when trying to boot the computer the SSD does not show up in BIOS (therefore can't boot from SSD). This also happens after a random crash. This usually gets temporarily fixed if you do a hard reboot. However it is very annoying when the computer freezes randomly (can be days between freezes). When BIOS cant' find the SSD it takes a longer time to show the mobo splash screen thingy.
It is noteworthy that when doing a "hard reboot" it sometimes takes the computer about 5 seconds to startup after pressing the power button.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
I don't really know how i would go about solving this as it works most of the time so i don't want to fiddle with things i don't completely understand.

Check with OCZ for the latest firmware update and see it that fixes your problem.
Had to install Linux for that and had alot of trouble, but after some hours i finally updated the firmware.
We will see if it ever happens again.

  • Problem my motherboard ( P55A GD65 )does not detect my second MSI 6950

i have a problem. I recently bought a MSI 6950 and i loved it so much i bought a second one, but when i plugged it in i could not activate crossfire, so i removed the 11.2 driver and installed 11.1 when that dident work i did the same and installed 11.4.
when that dident work i went to device manager and to my suprise it only detects one of my cards and not both of them.
My motherboard is crossfire ready, so i my power supply ( seasonic 850W ) and i did the following tests.
Put the first card in the first slot and boot and than in the second slot and boot and the same with the second card, every time it worked but when i put them both in and connect them with 2 crossfire bridges ( i even tried connecting just the one ) it doesnt work. ( the card does get power and works thought because both the fans of the cards are spinning.
Some of the updates are that i updated my bios via live update 5 to version 1.5 when it was 1.2 first.

    yes..
try to power up one of them with both combinations
also maybe you disconnected something, either some of the vgas or the memory stick to make such beeps..
so an update i tried what you said, putting them in without crossfire bridge and the powersupply did not beep but i did not see both cards detected in device manager either.
and i tried your second advice to power each of them with both combinations and that worked for 1 card but when i put them both in, it only showed one again

  • Itunes not detecting my video ipod

I have installed itunes and my ipod but when i plug in my ipod nothing happens and in the preferences tab it sas no ipod connected. I've done the 5 R's and have reinstalled the ipod and itunes many times. When i try to restore my ipod it says no ipod mounted. Windows detects it as removable disk E. What do i do to get my music onto my ipod?

With the iPOd on E you will have to change the drive letter, go here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499 Also make sure "Fast User Switching" is off. goto control panel>user accounts>change the way users log off and uncheck "Fast User Switching"

Just got my AMD Radeon R9 280x installed. I have MSI Z68A GS65 (G3) motherboard with the latest BIOS ver.
Doing a check in Catalyst Control Center -> Information -> Hardware the Grapics Bus Capability report PCI Express 2.0 x16
In bios the PCI 3.0 setting is set to auto.
Is this a AMD CCC info bug, I am realy running PCI 3.0? Is there another way I can check if the Grapich card is running on PCI 3.0 or PCI 2.0?

  • My imovie does not detect my Panasonic NV GS 35 video camera.

    Hi,
I have recently bought an apple computer and tried to import video on imovie but imovie did not detect my video camera. i can upload video on my windows xp laptop so i know that all is ok with the camera and i can upload photos and video using my wife's digital photo camera so i know that other hardware is detected by my computer. I have also the correct fire wire cables which I bought from an apple dealer, who could not help me with this problem either.
Do i need different drivers for an apple computer as the only ones that came with the panasonic camera are for windows? and if so where do i get it as i looked on the net unsuccessfully.
    Thanks

As near as I can tell, that translates from error 0x8E5E0247
I have this same error on other yellow exclamation marks respective of what kind of device it is.
=> To test my sanity, I put the old hard drive (same size) back in and except for the impact of slowness due to error retries, everything works okay.
    Note:
Same issue (hardware not detected) for Video adapter and Audio.
I bought new USB Wireless adapter to test, and the driver installed but not activated because "not digitally signed", and that same issue fits all the above hardware.  I down loaded them from Toshiba, and they are confirmed installed, but not accepted with digitally signed.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled with same results.
    Solved!

I'm discovering I am not as well as I thought... running on the  AF hard drive which was built with a copy drive from old format drive which was the product of system recovery disc set.
Review for context: Advanced Function HDD
Scenario that exposes harm caused by cloning data from 4K blocks drive to 512 bytes blocked drive (AF)
Toshiba supplied Windows-7 System Restore Discs: to factory state
Then I built the Windows-7 Repair  Disc... used later.
Hard drive was replaced when it caused SMART warning at every system boot.
Acronis was only utility that quickly detected problem (3 sectors had permanent read errors.) Active@Disk Image and Power Quest Drive Image (Ghost) did not detect the issue.
I tried Seagate 500 GB and Western digital 500 GB HDD drives as copy target.
That new drive would not boot: "Required source not found"
Booted My newly created Windows-7 repair disc, and used to to fix startup.
    See images.
That worked and then the ST9500423AS disc booted.
Now... next day I discovered Window Update is not working.
    I get message:
Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You need to restart your computer.
I ran Microsoft Fixit for updates.  It says it fixed two items.
    I still have the problem.
    The service shows "started"
Control Panel/ ACTION Center/ Maintenance/ Check for Updates
     "No action needed"
"Windows Update does not require any action"
    I checked  Update History...
... It is empty, else window is vacant... blank.
Soooo..... for a sanity check, I swap out hard drive; go back to the old format (which is the one I copied).
It works!  7 updates to install, including SP1... but I did NOT install them.
Switch back to the AF drive... Update doesn't work. I am broke again.
Is this another strange problem caused by the Advance Format issue?
    What to do?
By the way... I did install an Intel storage Matrix driver  update, but I do not have RAID chip, so that driver is not for me... unless I missed out on something.

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 No video on GPU, IGD works fine

Hello everyone. I'm making a post on a recent board, mainly the MSI Z68A-GD65 G3, that I've received from a previous RMA due to bad pins. This one boots up normally just fine when plugged into VGA, DVI, and HDMI directly and able to use Windows with no problem. So I use my EVGA GTX 750 that I saved up for the new MB  However, once I try to install my gpu and power it up it doesn't show any sign of post nor boot screen avail. I've updated the bios to the beta from .80 to .93, cleared cmos, and tried installing Intel ME8 afterwards from reading other posts with the same issues. Yet, after some of the suggestions that I've tried out it still shows a blank screen with no post code nor progress whatsoever. I switched the GPU around to the second PCIe slot and tried out my older GTS 250 ones as well, no dice. Is there anything that I'm doing wrong or any alternative that I can try to make it show?
    Board: MSI Z68A-GD65 G3
    Bios: Version: 25.93B
    VGA: EVGA GTX 750

    CPU: Intel i5 2500 3.30 GHz
    Mem: 8GB 2x4 Kingston PC3-8500 DIMM 1066 MHz DDR3
    HDD: Western Digital 1TB
CPU Fan: Intel i5-2500 Processor Fan
    OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

GTS 250 also shows a blank screen with no post code?
Did you attach the PCI-E power cable, and update the vbios?
PCI-E cables are connected to it since the GTS 250 requires them, but the 750 doesn't. So they do run fine when I tested them out once more on my old EVGA motherboard. Not sure how to update the vbios, but that sounds like a good idea to give it a shot.

Id this the first time you try VGA card in it since it was RMAd?
If it is I suggest you take it back with them.
Well the GTX 750 was recently bought brand new and I tested it out on my previous motherboard along with a friends system as well. It showed up properly with no problem. The z68a motherboard was the one I had to RMA because of broken pins on the CPU slot that gave me an infinite boot loop. Even when plugged into the system and using the onboard graphics, it seems that the board doesn't even detect it in the device manager. I do see 'Unknown Device' in it, but it doesn't exactly tell if its for the VGA card or something else.

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) - Motherboard's not booting with a PCI Soundblaster Audigy 2.

Hi everybody, as thread title says I've got some trouble with my motherboard, Z68A-GD65 (G3) and a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS that a friend of mine gave to me. I gave a try in both PCI slots avaiable on the motherboard but as i place the SB in PCI slot 1 or PCI slot 2 the system do not boot up. As soon as i take it off, the system works great as usual.
Of course i disabled the onboard audio to avoid resource sharing between the two. This is the only hint i had reading around on MSI trobleshootin.
The only other parameter i can change regarding PCI is latency in the BIOS. I found to be 32 cycle by default and i did not modified it.
The Audigy works flawlessly on another Intel P45 Board from a different brand and with the same video card in the PCI-E Slot. Of course Cpu end Ram ar different. When i did the try i disconnected everything unnecessary for the boot process.
Any hint would be very appreciated.
    Thanks, Daniele.

As i read on manual, the PCI setting into the bios is not something can cause instability:
    PCI Subsystem Settings
Press <Enter> to enter the sub-menu.
    PCI Latency Timer
This item controls how long each PCI device can hold the bus before another
takes over. When set to higher values, every PCI device can conduct transactions
for a longer time and thus improve the effective PCI bandwidth. For better PCI
performance, you should set the item to higher values.

  • Video Camera not detected through Firewire

I've been having trouble connecting my video camera to my computer for importing video into Final Cut.
After some deduction, my main conclusion/concern is that when I hook up my Canon minidv camera to the computer via firewire 400, it fails to show up in the system profiler under hardware>firewire.
I first tried all sorts of hookup sequences (involving turning off/on cpu, off/on camera, off/on program, and plugging firewire at certain times) No luck. Final Cut could not detect camera.
Secondly, tried the same thing with iMovie, but same result.
Thirdly, I bought a new firewire cable. Still didn't work.
Then, I switched my Canon with my friend's Sony video cam. Same result.
What's confusing is my Mac Pro's firewire 400 port works. I connect a Maxtor external hard drive, it is recognized, and it mounts all the time without a problem (I can also see the drive's info through system profiler.) However, when I connect my camera to the comp, and open system profiler's firewire status, I get the spinning wheel for a bit, then it says "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." Sometimes I don't even get that message, and system profiler just stays the same saying "FireWire Bus>Built in Hub" as if nothing is connected at all.
I also tried daisy-chaining the camera through the recognized external hd to the comp. Though, when I attempted to check the status in system profiler, the computer froze and I had to hard shutdown. Not good.
I've attempted all I can think of. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

is the camera on apple's "approved" list? I forget where to find it but there is or was such a list. do you have any other fw devices connected? for whatever reasons, often cameras must be the only fw device connected. My first attempt would be to turn on the device and connect it with no other fw devices connected. If it did not work, I would begin my standard hardware trouble shooting which consists of booting from my clean system hd that I normally keep on a shelf. It is an HD image of my system as it came from Apple. In your case I'd get an HD and install a clean 10.4 on the HD (without updates) and try connecting after that. IF 10.4 works you could try updating to 10.4.11 and so forth. Doing this process requires two drives so you can keep a good working boot drive while continuing to update till there is a problem. This supposes it's a software issue. Doing some searching on your camera make/model and cross referencing with apple and firewire should give you an idea as to whether others are having trouble and whether it's a common problem or a software issue. If others are having no issues then hopefully it's software. Another option would be to get a deck. I use a basic dv deck and you might want to go that route too. it's a much better thing in the long run anyway and if you can afford it and can find a known-good deck it would save a lot of trouble shooting time and hassle. obviously get one you can return if it doesn't connect.

    My xorg.conf is here.
    My Xorg.0.log is here.

I'm having the same problem as you. I posted another thread before finding this one. I can't seem to get any replies either.
I don't know if we're the only ones having this issue or if no one else is trying to use S-video or what. I really wish I could get mine fixed. I tried the xf86-video-ati-git from AUR but it didn't help.
The only difference with my problem is that xrandr also shows a DVI-0 at the bottom. I don't even have a DVI-0. I have a VGA-0 like you do. I wonder if xrandr is detecting the S-video as DVI for some reason? Though I've tried setting up DVI-0 as I would S-video but that doesn't work.
Have you solved this by any chance? If so I'd be interested to know how. Thanks and good luck.
***My card is an ATI X1200 series by the way.

No, nothing will show on the desktop - that only happens with card-based cameras (which are usually connected via USB).
But, make sure your camera is turned on, and in playback mode. Do you have another Firewire cable you can test, in case that cable is bad? Try also the tips in this document:

I have no idea what this means and would be grateful for any help.

    KT,
Thank you so much for your interest and response.  I think that I followed all the suggested 6 steps from the iBA user tip but to no avail.  Do you know anything about this comment by dmingo which is pasted below?
'User dmingo says this about that:
After audio tracks are placed in your book, you must 'Publish' the book from iBA (using the 'File/Publish...' menu) - that means re-entering all metadata from scratch - you can't simply import the .ibooks file into iTP. If you enter another audio clip at some time, you have to do it all again. '
To me it seems to say the video clips need to be delivered separately and one at a time.
I would be grateful for any advice

  • H55m-e23 not detecting video card

Hello i recently upgraded my pc with new video card (asus engtx570 directcu ii gtx 570) the problem is that main board(MSI H55M-E23) is not detecting video card, so here is what happens when i turn the pc on it starts to beep 1long beep and 2 short beeps. First i thought it might be power suply so i bought new power suply with 700w and still the same thing happens, then i tryed with LC850w and same thing so i guess the power supply is not the problem. I removed rams and tryed with 1 stick, i have 4 different sticks and same thing happened with each stick. i tested the videocard on different mainboard (ASUS P5Q PRO and ASUS P8H67-M PRO REV. 3.0) and videocard worked fine. i tested my mainboard H55M-E23 with sapphire ATI HD 6950 and it worked too so the pci slot is ok, and now i dont know what to do more i tested all things possible. So what is the problem? my mainboard does not want to detect videocard (asus engtx570 directcu ii gtx 570) 3beeps ( 1long and 2 short) PLEASE HELP!
