Z68A-GD80 (B3): "virtu cannot run on this iGPU"

I have the following system specs:
Motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD80 (B3), bios 17.5/20120111
CPU: i7-2600K
Win 7 x64
Intel iGPU drivers 15.26.8.64.2696 (latest version for win 7 64)
2 MSI nvidia GPU cards (1 580 and 1 570) in SLI
I run folding at home on the graphic cards of this system most of the time when not running graphics intensive programs, and the hit on the system is not so bad most of the time, but after nearly a year of it, I decided to try running the IGPU, so that the system could use that for web browsing, videos etc, while the folding processes could churn away on the discrete GPUs.
I enabled i mode in the bios, and loaded an old set of virtu drivers I had downloaded when I first got the MB (1.2.102). The Virtu control panel loaded without error. The panel has an update check feature, which I used and then downloaded the most recent version, 1.2.114. When the system rebooted after the installation, virtu would not run, instead displaying the message "Virtu cannot run on this integrated graphics processor. Disabling Virtu, and exiting. (Remember to enable Virtu after the problem is fixed.)"
What's the problem that I need to fix? What really puzzles me is that 1.2.102 worked, but 1.2.114 wouldn't.
Thanks
Mark

Have you retested with 1.2.102 and does that still work ?
If it does, then I would report the anomaly with the latest driver to Lucidlogix. I don't quite know how to interpret the expanded release notes of Virtu, but one of the known issues with the latest version states:
Quote
Known issues in this driver version
The following are the open issues with current driver release:
General
 Antivirus and firewall may popup a message box – the user should approve ‘Virtu Control panel’ access the net
 Control panel may flicker when switching between Tabs
i-Mode (display connected to integrated GPU output)
 3DMark Vantage may crash with FRAPS
 Virtu control panel may show some artifacts when system’s desktop background is configured to Windows Classic theme.
 When Dual GPU optimization (SLI/Crossfire) is enabled, performance may stay unaffected.
The very last known issue may be the problem

• Access connections 5.85 cannot run on this profile

Hello to lenovo forum.
I had installed on my lenovo 3000 n500 so far all new access connections packages with no problem till version 5.72.
From version 5.83 and now already 5.85 i get on start up an error saying ac cannot run on this platform.
However i can connect to internet smoothly and i can access ac user interface from start-programs menu since tray icon also misses from desktop.
My notebook is
Lenovo N500 (4233-4AG) 32 bit
Operating System:Windows Vista Service Pack 2
Now here starts my analysis of queries.
1. from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67283
we can see that supported systems are among others Lenovo N100, N200 ,and this is common for versions 5.83-5.85 and earlier ones.
so my n500 is supported from both versions 5.85 and 5.72,since ac drivers for n series work on 100 200 and 500 series.
2.So i guess it's a matter of prerequisites.
Now let's compare Software and Device Driver requirements Before installing ThinkVantage Access Connections
a.for version 5.85 that's latest which misfunctions for me when installed
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67283
with b. version's 5.72 prerequisites which is the last smoothly working on my N500 model.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/85cv28ww.txt
From comparison of the prerequisites for [For the other ThinkPad models] we can see that version 5.85 does not have any higher versions prerequisites than 5.72.
So what is the problem?
3.My wifi lan adapter is model Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 AGN version 13..4.0 installed a year ago with no problems working with access connections 5.72 and covering prerequisites for driver version Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg) for Windows Vista version 12.4.0.21. as mentioned on lenovo site.so no real problem with this.
4.But let's insist a liitle more on prerequisites.Maybe i really need
a.ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows Vista/XP/2000/ME/98 SE, version 1.42 or later.
b.Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 version 3.02.0000 or higher.
Here we can see.
a.from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-4GXPEG
that lenovo 3000 N series is not [vista] supported .
So my N500 model needs Power driver not from this url but from lenovo's support - download drivers and software selecting my configuration files i find Power Manager for Windows Vista - Lenovo G530 (MT 4446 only), N500 version
0.64.0.9 which is already installed and the latest one for my n500 model.
So no particular version exists apart from what i have already .since it works with 5.72 it should work with 5.85
lenovo has not updated any PM driver version for N500 model and i can find it as final on support site for my model
b.now my guess refines to a driver update for hotkey features.
but access connections points to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261
where lenovo N series is not supported.
So with little search i found http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGr-68000
which seems to be the proper for n series and the right ones.
5.Now the real questions
1.on
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGr-68000
are these the right drivers for my n500 model on screen display?
2. if yes latest version is 2.23.0000 http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6jvu34ww.txt
and read me file says that onscreen display version is 5.32
I have on my laptop version 5.13 of on screen display installed, may this be the upgrade to 5.32 needed to work access connections 5.85 on my n500 model right?
also i have presentation director version 4.a on my laptop and at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261 asks for hotkey features to work
"For Windows Vista/XP only) It is required to install Presentation Director version 4.04 or higher." and url redirecting there
should i have also this to upgrade?
3.from main access connections dowload page redirection to "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 version 3.02.0000 or higher" that's http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261
we see that package 3.02 which is needed has onscreen display driver version 6.02
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6wvu50ww.txt
will version 5.32 for my n500 model when installed cover this demand for driver version?i see that system interface driver minimum demand is version 1.01 which is already installed so no real problem with this driver.

I think its because the Lenovo 3000 & Valueline Systems are going to the idea-brand so the support for thinkvantage software is ending for those systems , so you might want to go back to the version that was working

• Z68A-GD80 Lucidlogix Virtu upgrade from version 1.1.101 downgrades to Evaluation

I am posting this because I have lost hours for searching for a solution and assume that other people may have this problem.
I recently bought motherboard Z68A-GD80 mainly because of it's Virtu support. Upon installing Virtu from motherboard CD (version 1.1.101) a notification popped up for new version of Virtu being available. I upgraded to latest Virtu version 1.2.103 and went on to use the Virtu Control Panel. It became clear that something was wrong because of disabled features. I realized in 'About' tab that Virtu was in 'Evaluation Copy' mode!
I went on in MSI's website to download the Virtu driver from their site (assuming a possible version problem). So went on and installed version 1.2.102 facing again the same problems.
Only after deciding to try the CD version (1.1.101) I was able to have a working version of Virtu without the Evaluation restrictions. It is one of the rare cases where an upgrade is actually a downgrade!
This is wrong and probably MSI has overlooked this based on the fact that their website has a version that causes Virtu to not read the license of motherboard properly (and revert to Evaluation). I would appreciate feedback on people that use Virtu and possibly if they faced the same problem upon upgrading Virtu's driver version. I am going to ask Virtu support if they can give an explanation about it.
In summary I am going to treasure the CD version 1.1.101 because I thing it has disappeared from the internet.

Maybe something in this thread will be of some interest; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148838.0 The 'as shipped' BIOS & the same on the Global Website, v17.0 is what I have, & Virtu worked as advertised right off the start with just using the utilities & drivers from the supplied install disk. Virtu seems to work fine with the install disk version, so no need to update to the newest driver far as I can see.

Any follow up on this? A ticket in with MSI Tech Support is also a good thing to do; http://support.msi.com/
Have you downloaded from the MSI Global Website the downloadable 'Quick Guide' v1.3?

• Z68A-GD80(G3) Virtu Won't Fully Activate Features

Z68A-GD80(G3) UEFI/BIOS 'As shipped' = E7672IMSI30, UEFI/BIOS Currently Installed = IMS.I62

After trying with every UEFI/BIOS version, fresh OS installs, full proper clearing of CMOS, rebooting after each driver install, etc., & following the Software Application User Guide to the letter, Lucid Virtu will not activate the full version on this (G3). This is contrary to the results when following the exact same install procedure with a Z68A-GD80(B3). It operated the full Virtu function 100% from day one with the 'as shipped' original UEFI/BIOS release.
Support ticket has been submitted to MSI Tech Support @ http://support.msi.com

Turns out if the original release UEFI/BIOS is downloaded from the MSI Global Website, the forum's USB Flashing Tool & Method 1 is used, the Lucid Virtu was enabled fully functional. MSI has noted, confirmed, & duplicated the problem when flashing to newer releases, & both the GD80(G3) & the GD55(G3) are going to be provided with a fix in the near future.

Hello,
Since upgrading to BIOS v20.1 on my Z68A-GD80 (B3) I've run into a minor issue. I've disabled the onboard NICs because I have a PCIe NIC that I use. When I resume from sleep, the onboard NICs are suddenly enabled.
This appears to be a bug with the v20.1 BIOS. I've tried resetting back to factory defaults and clearing the CMOs, to no avail.
Any ideas?

OP, completely off topic, but at the risk of being so...
You've got pretty much the same basic system I do. Are you able to OC with your 2600K on that BIOS? I'm running v20.0 and all options to OC are unavailable or AUTO only.
Yes, I am able to overclock my 2600K with the v20.1 BIOS. I'm not exactly thrilled with it, though. In addition to the NIC issue I'm having issues with my sound card as well. When I play games my friends complain of buzzing noises when using VOIP, which are coming from me. I never had that issue before v20.1.
Quote from: Froggy Gremlin on 26-February-13, 17:31:14
This is one of the rare boards that can be crossflashed using a Z68A-GD80(G3) UEFI/BIOS successfully. This Beta I have linked is outstanding. Further down in the Beta thread, there is also the final release J22 which I have not tried and most likely won't.
Really? I may try that BIOS since I'm not very happy with v20.1.
UPDATE: I flashed to the G3 BIOS v19.2 and the NICs still are enabled when coming out of sleep. I'm going to test to see if the sound issue still occurs. I'm not hopeful at this point.
UPDATE 2: The G3 BIOS v19.2 is no better, unfortunately. I was able to duplicate the sound issue for the first time and hear what my friends have been complaining about. When the system has to work there is a "buzzing" noise that is transmitted over the VOIP connection - it sounds like a fly buzzing around. This happens with the Steam client - I'm going to try Skype now.
UPDATE 3: Skype is even worse. The buzzing is continuous whenever I'm in a game. Is a rollback to v17.5 possible at this point?

• Z68A-GD80 (B3) Bios problem

Hello experts,
I want to build up a new machine. So I bought the mainboard Z68A-GD80 and an Intel 3570k. This cpu was not supported from start of the mainboard but the seller told me that he updated BIOS to the newest version before selling the board and he ran it successfully with this BIOS. So I installed all componenets and what happened:
- The dual bios LED tells me that primary bios failes.
- CPU phase led showing phase 10 after switching on power and then changing to phase 2
- Screen is dark
- I dont have a case speaker so I cannot hear beeping
What do you suggest du do now?
Thanks so much!!
Florian

The CPU phase lights are first at ten then at two is nominal. Those aren't going to tell you what's wrong unless none of them are on.
If you kept the power disconnected from a power source, grounded yourself before touching the circuitry, carefully put the CPU in, put in compatible RAM in correct slots, then all of the PSU connectors attached securely to the motherboard connectors, double checked the heatsync is attached securely, then connected the power cord, then powered on the computer. If BIOS doesn't appear on the monitor, go back to the sales person.
The heatsync is very important, if the thermal compound isn't carefully applied, or the heatsync itself incorrectly attached; the computer will not boot.

• Z68A-GD80 cannot get Control Center to work...

Trying to get Control Center to work, keep getting the wonderful: "Driver cannot load" message... then it just stays on the loading screen saying please wait, control center is running. I've tried everything, deleting and re-installing. I'm absolutely positive it's the latest version from the MSI website. I run it as admin, i've got the latest .net version and all that... The only real reason I want to control center is for temps and checking out OC genie. If there's no way to get it working, anyone know of another way to monitor cpu core temps and have a really really really retard proof explanation or presets for overclocking?

• Virtu Control Panel issue with Z68A-GD80

Hello,
I am a reviewer for PC Labs (http://www.pclabs.com.tr) and I've been evaluating the Virtu software for some time now. I have the following problem:
This error shows up whenever I try to start Virtu. If I click Yes, it just pops up again, infinitely. If I press No, Virtu quits.
Yes, I read the Virtu installation guide section
Motherboard BIOS is the latest. I'd been trying the previous ones as well.
As stated in the manual; I first installed Intel HD Graphics 3000 drivers, then added the discrete VGA card, let Windows install the drivers, then installed Virtu
I also tried all possible combinations of driver installation with and without Windows Update - manually installed VGA driver from AMD, let Windows install HD Graphics 3000 driver, etc.
I tried multiple versions of Virtu; from MSI download site, from Virtu directly, etc.
Re-installed Windows and done the same, no luck
Here's the rig:
- MSI Z68A-GD80 motherboard with most recent BIOS update available at the date of this post.
- Intel Core i7-2600K processor
- Radeon HD 6870 discrete card
- 4 GB Kingston DDR3-2000 (also tried with Kingston HyperX DDR3-2133)
- Seagate ST3250410AS & Kingston 120 GB SSD
- Thermaltake Toughpower 875 W PSU
- Windows 7 64 bits with SP1
Any ideas?

Two related questions for clarification:
Which version do you have exactly?
---> http://eu.msi.com/service/search/?kw=Z68A-GD80%20&type=product
... B3 or G3?
Which version is that exactly? (Exact version ID)
The version will be different, depending on the motherboard variant you have.
In addition to that, there are always BETA and Final Releases. In case you are referring to the latest Final Release, an even never BETA Release might already be available which does not appear on the board's product site.
The board is a B3. 7672 Ver. 3.0 exactly. As for the driver & application versions:
- Intel HD Graphics 3000 was tested with drivers from MSI and also from Intel. At the time I started this topic, the installed driver was 12.22.1.64.2361 (8.15.10.2361).
- AMD drivers tested (with Radeon HD 6870) were 11.6, 11.7 and finally, 11.8.
- Virtu software versions tested were: First was from MSI (can't remember the version number right now), 1.2.105, 1.2.106 from LucidLogix
- Motherboard BIOSes tested were: Initial BIOS (2011-04-25 date), 17.1 (7672vH1 ROM, date 2011-05-30) and for the time being, 17.2 (7672vH2 ROM, date 2011-07-18).

In the Virtu Control Panel, 'About' Tab, does the Virtu version appear, or does it say Trial Version?
Added: After reading & following the MSI Software Application Guide v1.3, & using the Virtu drivers off the install disk that came with the mainboard, I had flawless performance using Virtu. My mainboard was shipped with the initial UEFI release (17.0 for a B3). The Lucid Virtu license key was enabled right from the beginning.
The Virtu Control Panel never shows up. When the system boots up and I login to Windows, the error message I mentioned is shown. Clicking "Yes" results in the same error; clicking No quits Virtu. The same happens when I manually start the Virtu Control Panel app.
MSI SW App. Guide and software from the install disk didn't work for me. :( I don't think it's the Virtu license key because Virtu is actually *active*. I do get the Virtu logo on 3DMark Vantage (and possibly other 3D apps registered to Virtu) and get discrete card class results from the benchmark in i-Mode. Besides, I believe Virtu software doesn't mean to say my license key is missing. Please see below.
You could make it, then I'd like to ask you a favor. There should be two files in a LucidLogix folder, located in your User directory:
Code: [Select]
{Your_Drive_Name}:\Users\{Your_UserName}\LucidLogix
The files are lucidloader.ini and userSettings.xml.
Could you post those two? As far as I could deduce, there shouldn't be any personal information in those files. Just general settings and application profiles. The error seems to stem from a disrepancy between these two files. The software seems to look for some "keys" from the XML file (where settins and app. profiles are stored as "keys" like <key>KeyName</key>. I'll attach my files a few minutes later. Check the userSettings file; around the end of the file, you'll see the word "general". My bet is on that one.
Of course, while I quoted HU16E, Jack and anyone else interested is welcome in this discussion.

With that one in that context, I think we should check for malware.
Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)

Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

Stephen's got you covered.
I've also seen the following reported cause/workaround:
After several Google searches I found the iPad syncing problem to be caused by iPhoto 9.4 not handling the & correctly in names. It's not recognizing them as & which is causing problems with XML. You can manually change them or wait for Apple to issue a fix to iPhoto 9.4. I started to do the manual fix & I just have too many to change.
(Manual renaming isn't going to be an easy/good workaround for a bunch of folks, though.)
