Z68MA-G45 (B3) Boot cycle

So i bought a brand new config and it seems my motherboard is broken (it works for 4 seconds then stops for 10 and cycles that way forever)
My config:
MSI Z68MA-G45 (B3) Motherboard
PNY Nvidia GTX 560 Ti GPU
Intel Core i5 2450P CPU
Akasa venom power 750W PSU
G-Skill Ripjaws 2*4Gb 12800 RAM
Advance Kappa Box
No OS (MB never worked)
Razer mouse and keyboard (probably irrelevant)
I tried almost everything, did a CMOS reset, tried with only one stick of RAM, re-mount everything again just in case, nothing worked, it's always stuck in a boot loop so i'm in desperate need of a solution here.
I looked a bit on the forums here and on the internet but didn't found anything useful so far.
Thank you for any help you will provide,
Elril

The vendor is not going to know what BIOS is on the MB without opening the box and looking at the BIOS chip himself, that's not something that's normally done. The CPU is supported with the proper BIOS so under normal circumstances he wouldn't know about the BIOS one way or the other, all he's going to do is pull the box off a shelf and sell it. The MBs don't all have the same BIOS anyway as the later they come from the factory the later BIOS will be on it.
You can do as HU16E said or buy a Celeron G440 (about $40-$45 USD) and use it to run the system to flash the BIOS yourself.
You can download the BIOS from the same place as in the CPU support link in Ron's reply.

I recently built my computer a few months ago and it was working great but now when i turn it on theres no video display no beeps no anything. Sometimes when i click the power button it wouldnt even turn on the first time and have to click it a few times before it can even boot up. When i click the reset or restart button i hear 3 short beeps and the computer shuts off and on. I moved the ram stick from all four slots and nothing worked. Do i need to get RMA'd I have a 3 year warranty. I took it to a frys shop for them to build it and its been working great. I dont know what happened. I night before I changed the switch on the power supply to turn it off but it was still on then i removed the power cable and it finally shut off. I had the computer put to sleep mode. I dont understand what happened.

    The short summary is:
New system build.   Powers up just fine.
Windows install runs to completion, but upon initial boot, gets to windows startup page indicating "Setup is updating Registry Settings"..  then poof.. reboot.
    Testing:
Verified RAM is good (via memory test from BIOS, windows installer and another computer RAM swap).
SSD drive appears to be fine.
    identified in BIOS
windows setup can partition/format and REpartition/REformat without error
same diff with a single Seagate Barracuda drive in system
IDE or AHIC settings make no diff
    Reset CMOS
Tried both DVI and VGA video channels..  same diff.
The only thing I haven't done is the BIOS upgrade.
Mobo came with v17.0..  v17.2 is available  n' looks like it'll get updates for CPU and Memory.
It just seems like everything is pretty current n' shouldn't need to do.
Smacks of a driver problem to me.  Maybe for the on board video controller.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Smacks of a driver problem to me.  Maybe for the on board video controller. It's gotta be a driver or problems with the on board graphics.  As long as you're OK with DOS, it's a breeze. I'll give MSI support a chance to resolve this.. then I RMA this evil beast.
Test with only a RAM stick in the blue primary dimm slot. I would suspect a 300W PSU as possibly not providing enough system power. If you have a 'spinner' HDD to test with, I would recommend to try with one of those too. In the future, use the forum's USB Flashing Tool. Safest flashing method on the planet.

  • MSI Z68MA-G45 (B3) Crash Issue

    Hello,
I recently bought a brand new MSI Z68MA-G45 (B3) motherboard along with the following items:
    CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 RAM
    Noctua DH-N14 Heatsink
    850 Watt Viotek Pro PSU
    Quad Core i7 2600k Processor
(if i need more specs added, please let me know.)
I have not yet added a graphics card into this rig but I plan to add a Radeon HD 6970 soon. I can not accurately determine if my problems are with the motherboard or the processor, but I randomly get system crashes. They seem random, no matter how hard I try to pinpoint their origin. I could be on netflix, playing a game, talking on skype, or just sitting idle. I am currently running at 4.0Ghz overclock, (was 4.5, lowered to see if that was the problem) which I setup when looking at a guide on this website. All my core temps are averaged around 30, so I do not think that is the problem either. When it does happen, the screen becomes fuzzy and freezes, and I hear a low buzz from my computer (or speakers?). If anyone could help me troubleshoot this issue, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Michael

It is disabled and set to 1600 MHz (correct).
XMP is disabled and its set to 1600 ?  Did you set it manually to 1600 ?  These modules default to 1333 if XMP is disabled.
Only add one RAM module. Then do a CMOS clear and remove the CMOS battery. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<  And forget OC'ing for now.
Now restart and cycle through one OS boot.
Shut down and add the second module, and so on. Check if you are able to add all 4 modules sequentially without changing the default memory settings.
Lets try and establish if your system will run at stock with 4 modules for now.

    Cooler Master V6GT
Cooler Master 690 II advance ( USB 3.0 version )
    G. Skill Ripjaws 1600 (4x2) 8gb
    EVGA GTX 580 SC
just wondering how can i overclock my CPU w/ this rig coz i cant see any threads regarding this mobo, also i cant open up the BIOS of my system i have a windows 7 64 bit ultimate. hoping for some good advise.

Recommend to do all the bench tests at the original auto/stock/default settings, then you have something to compare later results with. In Reply #10, I have given some basic pointers at which to start. Soon as CPU V. is taken out of auto, you will lose any power saving advantages at low use & idle. Another quick & dirty way to do it is to set the CPU V. at the industry recommended maximum of 1.400v's, & start to increase the CPU Ratio up one step at a time until it fails to boot the OS. Keep in mind, load overshoot will usually spike the VCore past the 1.400v's at times in varying amounts. For gaming, OC'ing RAM is a wasted effort. After extensive testing, it made almost zero change in gaming performance on it's own.

    There is a lot of information in this thread that may be of use. This is basically one of the alternative ways to OC;

Can you enter the following command in Terminal and post the result here?
Command is "ls -al" (it's the "L" letter in "ls" and "-al"), then press Enter.
Additionally, you can enter the following commands in Terminal (press Enter after each one):

  • Ipad 2 gets stuck in a boot cycle

2 weeks ago, i left my ipad 2 to go to bed. when i woke up, the device had turned itself off. it was about 90% charged before i went to bed. upon attempting to turn it back on in the morning, the apple logo screen was reached and then some white text similar to cmd text appeared on the side of the screen. The text said something about NAND driver, memory= 0 and some other things i didnt catch. the device then restarted and got to the same screen again, before continuing to restart and display that screen.
I attempted to restore the ipad via itunes (latest version) in restore mode and DFU mode. Each time i got the error 1611. Reading the error codes, i uninstalled my antivirus and itunes and reinstalled itunes. i then ran itunes in windows 7 compatibility mode as administrator. I still got the error.
I took the device to my friends house who tried to restore it, in restore mode in a usb 2.0 port but got the error 1613 i think. After this we tried restore mode and DFU mode in a 3.0 port. these both failed and gave error 21. looking at this code, we then used DFU mode in the 2.0 port and the device restored and updated from ios 5.3 to 6.1.2.
the device has worked fine for 2 weeks up until today when midway through a game, it turned off and i get stuck in the same boot cycle again.
what could be wrong with it and what can be done? the device is refurbished and within its 1 year warranty.

I just can't think of any other software fixes that might work since you have done everything imaginable and recommended by Apple - at least to the best of my knowledge.
There is one sort of off the wall thing that you can try, but frankly, I don't think that it will make any difference at all. I have read here in the forum to let the iPad battery totally drain until it shuts off, recharge the battery for about a half an hour, and then try restoring again. I don't know if this is an urban legend, or if it really works. I don't see what difference that would make anyway other than you would be restoring the software after letting the battery drain.
You have restored the iOS and downloaded it again using DFU mode and that hasn't worked. My assumption would be that there has to be some hardware issue going on. A faulty connection inside the device, a bad chip.... Something non software related.

  • N900 Boot Cycle Issue

Hello everyone, my name is samantha and I just bought a new Nokia n900, it seemed a really nice phone with a very large potential, however I ran into a booting issue, the phone itself doesn't randomly reboot while I'm using application, as in other cases that I've been reading, but when I normally shut it down, I give it some time, and try to turn it on again, instead of a normal booting like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HorA_H8TKdo
It repeats the cycle some times, for instance the first Nokia screen shows, then the dots, then a black screen, the the first Nokia Screen again, just like If I had just turned it on, and it will repeat a few times, and then eventually it will turn on.
Does anyone knows if this is an issue in the hardware?
Because I already read tutorials and flashed the emmc and the OS to the latest version, and it still doing it with the factory settings, no custom applications, etc.
I just turn it on after a full flash, use it a bit, such as taking pictures, playing chess, and then when I turn it off and try to turn back on, that strande boot cycle happns.

a reflash didn't fix it, so its probably a hardware issue, try raking it to a nokia repair center.

  • Hp pavilion a6200n boot cycling

im having problems where the computer goes through a strange boot cycle
a friend sent in their a6200n to me to fix because the comp freezes up (its using all the ram available)
i add 2 ram chips to it and the comp now wont get very far past the bios (as soon as i select an option to start the computer normally or otherwise it resets)
i removed one new ram chip after trying multiple patterns with all four chips in the four slots (old, old, new, new; new, old, new, old; and so on) and tried booting the comp that way. i got all the way to the login screen before the blue screen of death showed up
if i was at my old job id try the power, reset the motherboard, and so on just going down our checklist of steps but i no longer have the tools and thus the luxury to do so so can you please tell me what is the most likely to check next?

    Hi eprice809,
Since you are out of warranty and you believe it is a mechanical problem (power button), have a local, reputable PC sales and service shop take a look.
If you are handy you may want to open the case and remove the front bezel after powering off and removing the PC's power plug from the AC power outlet. Please ground yourself prior to touching internal components. Check wiring connections on the power button and the motherboard. The problem could be mechanical or electrical. Be careful, motherboard voltages are lethal!
HP introduced this model in 2007. I doubt if you could find an HP replacement part using HP's Part Store or Partsurfer.

  • Z68MA-G45(B3) Ivy Bridge Bios

I contacted MSI support to see if they where going to update my BIOS (Z68Ma-G45(B3)) to work for the the Ivy Bridge CPU and they Sent A link to this beta bios (link removed, not for public).
I tried to flash the BIOS using the forum bios tool but the tool  would not let me set up my usb device saying it was not a compatible bios file.
So I unrared the file and used the M-Flash utility in the bios and it flashed correctly.
The next thing is to see if it actually will work with a Ivy Bridge CPU when they are released. I assume it will but you never know.
Oh and does anyone know of a release date for the Ivy Bridge CPU'S?
    Kevin

Last rumor was sometime in April.
    Added: Before the forum is overloaded with questions about Ivy Bridge CPU support for all the 6 series mainboards, check with MSI Tech Support here;

PLEASE don't bug the forum with 'any news' posts, all are MSI product users here just like you, yes, even the admins & mods. A good place to watch would be the Beta BIOS Section found in the Overclockers. Undervolting, Modding Corner Section of the forum. Jack does his best to keep it updated as he receives anything to post. PLEASE, don't bug him about it either.

  • Lenovo G45-50 boot loop.

My Lenovo G45-50 has been stuck for days at a time on a boot loop. It starts up, the Lenovo logo comes on the screen, and then reboots again. After about 3 days of this, sometimes it boots up fully. However, as soon as I have to restart (due to updates) or shut down, it will go through this cycle again.
Anyone else have this issue, or know how to have it fixed?

    Thank you CBHendricks,
I did try the reset, but to no avail. Nothing happened. My computer finally turned on this morning, so I tried to contact support, however it is apparently not available in my country yet (Canada). When opened my laptop, there was an alert about "the charger not being able to provide enough power", or something of that nature. I had never seen it before, would the lack of charging capabilities be causing my issue?
Hmm... no support in Canda?  That seems rather strange....  It does sound like there is a problem or two with the hardware of your system and it needs to be serviced.  Have you spoken to Lenovo support by phone?  I would suggest doing so and discuss warranty options, and confirm service center locations.  I am certain that I have seen Canada in the list of supported countiries.
    Cheers.

  • Brand-new Z77A G45 not booting

Hello all. Just started putting a new build together the other day, using the Z77A G45. When I went to boot it up for the first time, it gave me the "Military Class III" splash screen, with the prompts to switch to POST, start BIOS setup, etc. However, pressing any of the keys doesn't do anything, and it shuts down after about twenty seconds or so. The CPU phase leds all turn on for a few seconds after it's powered on, but after that only the first one remains lit.
I thought it might be because it wasn't recognizing my USB keyboard, but I had the same problem even when I used the PS/2 converter that came with the keyboard. I tried clearing the CMOS, and it gave me a screen showing that it recognized everything plugged into the board, and prompted me to hit F1 to continue setup, which worked, but from there all I got was a black screen with an "underscore" in the upper left hand corner. Rebooting with only one stick of RAM didn't change the problem, and I've tried all the USB ports, with similar results.
I'm thinking that the problem lies in the CPU being damaged during installation, but there don't seem to be any bent pins.
    Here's the build:
    CPU - Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core
    Motherboard - MSI Z77A-G45 ATX LGA1155
    Memory - Kingston Blu Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333
    Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card - MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB
Case - NZXT Tempest 410 ATX Mid Tower
    Power Supply - SeaSonic 520W ATX12V / EPS12V
Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
    Monitor - Asus VS238H-P 23.0"
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try it without any ram, you should get a beep. If not it seems to be RMA time.
This is not true depending on the board and bios version. Not all boards/ bios versions beep at all.
