I noticed that one of my HDDs is "missing". It is connected to one of the the Asmedia sata connections.
I checked the BIOS and found that external SATA had been disabled, by me presumably before lunch and coffee.
On enabling it my computer reverted to the limbo state on startup as I described before.
I re-disabled and all was fine, except for the "missing" HDD.
I moved the hdd (sata 1 160GB ex an old laptop) to a sata 2 connection and again all was ok.
I re-enabled external sata without a drive and again all was ok.
Maybe there is a small problem

Found a solution! For some reason it lost the Wifi connection too. By reestablishing the WiFi and using the "back arrow" to where you can select the language and waited for a few minutes it passes the HDD error message and continued the installation.

Hi, just tried the new bios 10.10 using Mflash and it loaded/flashed successfully. However, even after cmos reset/ button battery removal it will not boot from my MBR ssd. and sits in limbo. I cannot reflash to 10.8 with Mflash as it goes into some sort of limbo when I select the 10.8 bios file. I then tried the forum flashing tool, but the computer does not boot from the USB even though it is recognised in BIOS. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. I'm running win 8 64 bit on a crucial m4 256 GB. I suspect there are some settings I may have stuffed up. Thanks in advance.
Solved I had some lunch and a cup of coffee and tried again. Lo and behold it all worked. Sorry to have raised the issue

Let's start with what you are trying to install. Adobe Reader is free, so it won't be forcing you to buy anything. So
- What are you trying to install (full name, please, Adobe make lots of things)
- What system (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OS Lion, iPad...)
- Where do you go (what web address) to start off?
- Why were you "forced" to do this?

Have you installed any applications recently? A task killer maybe? You can try rebooting the phone and see if that helps.

This is a totally absurd suggestion, except that it worked for me with my iPad. Forget the network, then when asked for the password, enter a wrong one. Try again and enter the correct password. Good luck.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

I have some information for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. That information can be found right here:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.

Try resetting your phone, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until the apple symbol comes up, then release. If that doesnt work, you may have damaged your phone and need to take it to an apple genius bar.

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more. And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should. On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much. I will post a note in the app store to let them know. I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.

Try resetting your device. Hold down the power button and the Home button on your iPad, ignore the slide to power off message, continue to hold both buttons until you see the white Apple logo. After it restarts try download the Facebook app again.

I'm trying to publish a site withdreamweaver as one of the 5 sites I get with my CC account using business catalyst, but I get the following error message "There was an issue connecting to the server. Please try again later. 124." whenever i try and connect which doesnt really help.
I'm logged in with the correct account in dreamweaver, and i have no issues publishing sites from muse using my CC account.
