Z77 gd55

1st up, great looking board, so much nicer on the eye that some others and its better in person than on screen but i do have a couple of issues.
first of the bios, its not showing right on my screen. i think its because my screen is only reporting as a generic pnp screen so its only running at a low res and everything is over lapped. need to force it to something that shows all the bios options as i am only able to select settings, eco or oc genie modes and need to use cursor keys blind to get other options.
can you make it force a res which shows all options please?
2nd thing is my ram, i have mushkin #996997 and the only way to get them to work at the rated speed was to manually set all the timings as the xmp would cause it to just hang and not post and only setting the main timings would cause it to bootloop. i think this is because these sticks have 2 xmp profiles and the bios is only giving on or off options and if its on which timings is it using? as these sticks wont do 2133mhz cas 7 without scarey amounts of sa volts :D
last thing is to do with overclocking, i know this cpu and have had it 100% load stable at 4.8ghz and posting upto 5.2ghz in my other 1155 board but in this it is throttling back to 4.4ghz no matter what i do. i have seen people on other forums say that the board is limiting the cpu to 130w which while i can understand that for the new ivy cpu i dont need or want it on a sandy cpu as these have no heat issues once you get past that.

yes, being able to see what i am doing would be a massive help

    Hello, guys,
I'm looking to buy the MSI Z77 GD55 but the oficial lacking of support to the Virtu MVP technology is holiding me back, but, i saw in some foruns some guys with this motherboard running the Virtu MVP, so, it's really possible to run the Virtu MVP on this motherboard? I'm justing waiting for this confirmation to buy the Z77 GD55, if not, i'm thinking to get the BIOSTAR TZ77XE4

No mention of it on the website. Consider the -GD65.

  • MSI Z77 GD55 Slow BootingUp when plugged a Cardreader PROBLEM!!!!!!

I have Msi Z77 Gd55 mainboard. I like this mainboard but I have a little problem. If my card reader is connected via usb and also slots are empty, the first booting black screen is waiting for 10-15seconds. If not plugged it counts the codes in 2seconds and starts loading windows rapidly. It  waits at B4 debug code for 10-15 secs and then comes A2 and starts normally my windows.
I have tested other brand Card readers also with internal and external models but the problem  is the same. I dont have this problem with my other mobos only having at Z77 GD55.
I have disabled the card reader at the bios Booting/usb but didnt solve the problem exactly.
A bios update may solve this problem................

Try the latest Beta, make sure to use the forum flash tool so that the ME extension of bios is flashed as well.

  • Z77 GD55 live update problem

Hello, I recently bought a z77 GD55 mainboard, the problem is when accessing live update or browser from the bios it never works.
First it asks me for a boot drive, I select the hard drive I am using( Windows is on it), and it simply goes to a black screen
I have read the Manuel and all it says to do is install winki which I have done, please help!

Did your mainboard come with the supplemental Software Application User guide? It covers Winki 'how to' fairly well as I recall. Personally, I would recommend to stay away from using any Live Update functions and do all updates and such manually.

  • Optical disk slowing down boot time with z77 gd55

I recently hooked up an optical drive to a gd55 motherboard, after the windows 7 logo is formed now there is a 15 or so second long pause that wasn't there before. If i insert a disk into the drive the pause is gone as well. If anyone knows of a setting to stop this please help,

I found another similar to what Wonkanoby found. Perhaps your problem is you may need the firmware update.

What did you do when the Bam! happened?
I5-3570k you mean? If so, that would require v13 to work properly 2012-04-13, but if it worked for 2 months that would be very odd. To verify, you could try and i5 2500k or so: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-GD55.html#/?div=CPUSupport but I doubt that is the case.
Next good idea would probably to build the computer on a non-conductive surface (IE brown cardboard)
When you take it out, remove the cpu and inspect the pins very carefully with a bright light and zoom from an hd camera or magnifying glass, if its ok re-seat the cpu and install the cooler, 1 stick ram and psu.
    Re-test
If it fails, even though the psu was tested, try a different one. Still fails? Try a different stick of ddr3.. After that it's either the cpu or mobo, my bet would be on the mobo, but to be sure if you can test the cpu in another computer.
Ps: When I say try, I mean borrow, perhaps have a friend with a similar set up bring his computer over to help in testing.
The BAM was turning on my PC in the morning...
Yes I meant the i5, sorry. The motherboard had whatever BIOS it already had when I started it, would not having updated it killed my CPU?
Yes I will try and put it on the some card on the wooden table in my living room.
It has worked without problem and all parts other than the graphics card are brand new.

  • Z77-GD55 BSOD when coming out of sleep/hibernate

Ok so I dont usually use the power saver modes but yesterday I decided to start. My PSU is getting long in the tooth and I figure why not. Well, after trying to wake the computer from sleep mode, I have a few issues. First, usually when a computer wakes from sleep all that is needed is a swipe of the mouse or press of the keyboard and your login screen pops up. With this board I have to press the power button to wake. Odd. Second, I get a BSOD whenever I do that. Ive never had an MSI board before so maybe this is a setting within the BIOS that I can disable, im not sure. If anyone has any thoughts, im all ears.

I would recommend Corsair DDR3 1600 when you buy the cpu since the IB cpu nativly supports 1600. If you plan on overclocking at that point, 1866 or 2133 or higher could be fun. (There isn't that much of a real world difference, but the benchmarking is fun)
Raising the dramv might rid youself of the bsod like bern said, we both agreed on it being an memory issue most likely. Just doesn't seem worthwhile when you are getting new parts soon.
Perhaps this will help you with your decision when the time comes:
    Quote
    Main Memory
    • Support four DDR3 DIMMs 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2667*/2800*(OC) DRAM (32GB Max)
    - Supports Dual-Channel mode
    * To support DDR3 2200*/2400*/2600*/2667*/2800*(OC), you must install an Intel 22nm CPU
Ps: Make sure to check the cpu support page when you get your cpu as you may need to update the bios prior to install.

  • MSI Z77 GD55 endless boot cycle with 32GB of RAM

Got a Ivy Bridge GD55 with a 3770K and 32GB of G.Skill 1866mhz Sniper RAM - whenever I use more than two sticks at a time, or outside of the 2 and 4 slots my computer refuses to boot up - it powers on, fans whirl for a couple seconds and then the machine resets. All four sticks will boot properly if they're placed in the 2 and 4 slot, but once I add the other two the system refuses to boot up, doesn't even get to POST before restarting itself.

If you need the memory, try a set of corsair dominators.

+1, with the addition of Corsair Dominator 'Platinum' as being the best of the best IMHO.

However ... same speed (1600MHz), same timings (9-9-9-24), same voltage (1.5).
Vengeance 105 bucks, Dominator 180 bucks

  • Z77-GD55 not posting after Win8 Update

    Hi folks,
i´m in need of help as i am done with my knowledge here. After i updated my PC to Win8  it sometimes didn´t boot up. After 4x-8x restarting unplugging etc it went back to working normal. Today it got stuck in a boot loop. Before the update i swapped the memory sticks into different banks, as otherwise the heatsink wouldn´t fit, so now they are sitting in bank 2 and 4. Besides that the Soundcard went from the uper PCIe slot in one of the lower ones. I already tried swapping memory modules, disconnetcing all devices, unplugging GPU, HDD, and the Sound Card. Result so far is either a boot loop, meaning the PC seemingly powers up, all vents running and then restarts or inbetween i got a 3x times beep. Now i´m cluelesse.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks a lot !!

    Strange analysis and assumption indeed.
You had a working board. You load the OS and now it doesn't work. The only known change was the OS.
With Win8 not being able to write and embed its serial key to the BIOS, I wouldn't be surprised if that caused BIOS corruption.
I think he indicated that he broke it trying to fix this issue. It just wouldn't load the OS then he re-seated everything and it boot looped.

  • Quick Z77-GD55 Question - Raid 0 Trim

  • Cannot adjust CPU ratio on z77 GD55

My computer shut down automatically because of  Drmos overheating few hours ago.

Other than that my computer seems absolutely normal.

What exactly is meant by that? The system should always be properly cooled. Recommend to remove the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS and reset and try again. What kind of CPU cooling solution are using? What kind of air flow does the case normally have running? What were the system OC settings when it all went bad?

Have you possibly tried + and - on your keyboard while CPU Ratio being "highlighted" / "selected" ?
Didn't know you could do that, but I just tried it and it wouldn't budge off Auto.

Why change CPU Ratio, and when was XMP enabled? In the pictures you posted XMP was disabled.
Just change My OC Genie DRAM Frequency, and the timings maybe you need to change in the main settings (DRAM Timing mode link, -> Advanced DRAM Configuratio, if there are no such in My OC Genie).
You are using OC Genie, make changes in My OC Genie.
I wanted to change the CPU Ratio because I thought you wanted me to overclock the CPU but not the RAM.
When OC Genie II Overclocking is enabled they recommended not altering any settings in the BIOS. XMP Profile was disabled in the picture I posted earlier because I disabled OC Genie and set the BIOS back to default without any overclocks.

Any reason you need a Beta ?  Best to open a ticket with MSI technical and ask them if there are any new BIOS versions that could solve your problem.
Would a mod please move this and the previous post to a new thread "Z77A-GD55 BETA BIOS".
