Z77 MPOWER Overclocking Issue

I just got a Z77 Mpower a few days ago and this board is driving me nuts. I like the potential it is showing but something seems off. I am working on overclocking a 2600K that I was previously able to hit 4.9GHz on an Asus P8P67 at 1.48V. I have been able to hit 5GHz easily on less voltage with the Mpower but there is something wrong. On the P8P67 when running IBT it was getting 130+ GFlops and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility showed the processor was using 120-130 watts, on the MPower I am getting around 70 GFlops and it is only using 95 watts. I know the 2600K has a stock max TDP of 95 watts, so I am thinking there must be a setting in the BIOS to push past that. I have set all of the power settings to 250 watts and it still seems to be capped at 95 watts. I have also disabled overspeed protection. What am I doing wrong?

If anyone knows if there is a setting in the BIOS that would cause this kind of behavior please let me know or if there is some other way to test how the RAM is truly performing.

MSI Z77 MPOWER - Overclocking Help

Since the Z77 MPOWER has no offset overclocking, I was wondering how it would be possible to overclock the CPU with a custom voltage and then when idle, the CPU speed drops to 1.6GHZ and lower voltage. I currently run a i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz with OC Genie mode using Auto Voltage Settings (1.056V).
I found this on another forum and wondered how this would work:

I want it to idle as well with lower voltages to reduce the amount of heat produced and energy required. For example, Idle @ 1.6GHz with 0.9V and Load @ 4.4GHz or maybe even 4.5 GHz @ 1.1/1.2 V.

Z77 Mpower boot issue - won't POST

Hi there
Got a question regarding a PC build that isn't working as well as hoped. Doing this on behalf of my friend but I've been helping him while he builds it so have a good idea of what's been going on.
Set up is as follows:
Processor: Core i5 3570k (stock, not overclocked or anything)
Motherboard: MSI Z77 Mpower
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance memory (in 2x4gb)
PSU: Corsair 800W Gaming PSU
Storage: OCZ 240GB SSD
Cooling: Zalman water cooling (can't remember the exact model off hand I'm afraid, will try and get that later)
Graphics: HD 4000 integrated (for now, haven't got the graphics card yet)
We built the machine and got it going no problem. When it was first built it booted no problem, so we set up boot priorities and then installed the Windows 8 Enterprise 90 day trial. All good so far. Installed no problem at all at lightning speed and we got into Windows fine. Installed lots of drivers and so forth with no such trouble either. CPU was reporting a steady 25C average temperature on idle and everything seemed to be going smoothly.
Then we hit a stumbling block. We powered off the machine to make a minor adjustment in the case (all while static protected with a wristband), and after doing this we then powered the machine back on. We're now getting a dim red LED (almost seemed half powered) in the DrMOS overheat warning and then two bright blue LEDs next to it indicating the CPU power phase. The fans will spin and case LEDs come on, but nothing else happens other than that and the LEDs. No POST screen or anything like that. It might also be worth noting that now when you plug the computer in, the green LED on the internal power button no longer lights while the machine is off - when the machine was working it would.
I've spent hours trawling through the forums and can't seem to find the same problem happening. We're getting a bit worried that there could be a fault on the board but wondered if we could get some advice from here first. I tried resetting the CMOS with no avail and trying the other BIOS.
As a last resort, we've now removed the cooler and CPU to check the CPU hasn't melted or anything drastic like that and it's absolutely fine - no visible damage. We've left it like that for now until I can get back over there with some more thermal paste to reseat the processor and cooler so until then we're stuck anyway.
If anyone has any ideas or knows of the problem, it would be really appreciated as we're a bit worried! What should we try?

Many thanks, will give that a try. Is it an RMA to MSI if that fails then? Forgive me for not totally understanding consumer rights - but it was only bought around a week ago - could we get the supplier to exchange it or would it have to go to MSI for repair?

Z77 Mpower USB2 issue under Win8.1 only

I dont know where to ask this anymore, no-one answers so i think it can be bios issue of msi z77 mpower motherboard,
The problem is that the frontal usb2 port does not work, the device is not appearing in device manager and disk managment sections.
The only way to make it work is to plug in the device before turning on the PC, so windows will run it normally.
This happens only on windows 8.1, I have already tried to reinstall it but nothing is changed... can anybody tell me whats going on and how to fix it

All of my USB3 ports are working fine and never had any kind of problem, as i said, the only way to make USB2 work is to plugin device before PC turn on, so my Mouse and Keyboard which are attached to the backside USB2 ports will always work.

X99 SLI Plus & Z77 Mpower USB issue

So I just upgraded to the x99 from the z77 and noticed that both boards when powering down the system and unplugging all the usb devices (keyboard, mouse, joystick, trackir, headset) and plug them back in, when the pc boots up the usb devices are not working properly, on the z77 mpower this would even cause the wifi to stop working. I move my pc around a lot and this is getting kind of old and annoying. I thought that it was just an issue with the one board but now that I have the x99 and have the same isue I'm wondering if this is some kind of setting for a faster boot or something (although I do not have fast boot enabled). I've search high and low for a way around this problem but I cant seem to find anything. If I make sure and plug each device back into the port it was removed from then it works fine other wise i have to only plug in mouse and keyboard, boot up, unplug them both and then plug all my devices back in (even with just mouse and keyboard if the plugs are swapped the keyboard lights up but does not work, the mouse works but only basic 2 button no scroll wheel. And yes they are plugged into the top most standard usb ports).

what's your OS?
Did you also unplug the power cord between your usb unplug and plug back?
Try doing the completely shut down to S5 before you unplug the power cord.
or try reinstall your USB driver and clear CMOS.

MSI Z77 MPower Ram issues

Hi guys
I recently installed the MSI Z77 MPower after replacing it with the Asrock extreme 4 mobo which i had before, am currently having problems with the RAM it wont boot if i place them in the correct slots for dual channel configurations but if i place them in the last two slots the PC boots up fine.
My Ram is the G Skill Ripjaw X series 1600mhz model number: F3-12800CL8-4GBXM.
Its driving me nuts two motherboards and nothing working, i just hope its not relating to my CPU or something like that.
Please...please guys really need your help with this, because without it running in dual channel configuration my first build feels incomplete due to this problem.

Hi guys thanks for the replies and sorry for the late reply has i said before my MSI MPOWER Z77 motherboard is totally brand new and i know for a fact that no bent pins in the cpu socket, from what i am aware of, if my RAM is related due to the type of RAM modules that i am using and you guys are suggesting corsair modules which ones do you guys recommend me getting. You know when i said only slot 3 and 4 only worked could that be in a result of the RAM am using or not....??

MSI Z77 MPower - Boot issues (A2 debug code and more)

Hey guys,
I've been trying to get my new computer build working but I have encountered several issues when trying to boot the computer.
Before putting everything inside my case, I tested the motherboard + CPU + 1 stick of ram to make sure everything was working. I had issues in the past where I had to remove everything once I had things mounted.
Everything seemed to work and I got into the BIOS and looked like everything was good.
I mounted it in the case with the same configuration and I was able to get into the BIOS again. So I thought everything must be ok.
Fast forward a couple hours later after I finish plugging everything in, I try to turn it on but it just gets into this boot loop.
Turn on > Fans spin for a couple seconds > turns off > repeat. This just kept going on and on and I wasn't exactly sure what was going on.
I started to unplug components and when I only had the Mobo + CPU + 2 sticks of ram in I was able to get into the BIOS.
I plugged things in one at a time and when I plugged in my SSD it would work.. but when I added another drive I would start getting the A2 Debug message on my board.
I would continually get this A2 debug message and I am not sure what to do to get it to work.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest ones and it is still not working.
Could this be an issue with my PSU? I really hope it's not the MOBO..

What ram exactly are you using?
You may perhaps be able to set the ram timings in bios to JEDEC standard 9-9-9-24 1600 perhaps

Z77 MPower - Booting Issues

Currently, my display won't show any information when I turn on the computer.
The CPU cooler is working as intended.
The fans are spinning.What worries me, though, is the Debug LED. It's showing "FF". A code not mentioned anywhere. To the extent that not even Google wanted to help.
Components:
NVidia GeForce GTX 680 (Gainward PHANTOM II)
4 pieces of 8GM DDR3 2033Hz RAM (Corsair Dominator Platinum)
CPU Water Cooler (NZTX Kraken X40)
850W PSU (XFX Pro Series)
120GB SSD (Kingston HyperX 3K)
Intel Core i7 -2700K Second Generation
I tried the following troubleshootings.
Remove add-on cards:
I tried to remove graphic card. The same issue
RAM removals:
Using only one RAM. Blank.
Using no RAM. No change. Probably not a good idea either.
Checking CPU pins:
If anything, all the pins are bent. But neatly towards one direction. I suppose that came from inserting the CPU.
I did insert the CPU correctly, according to the indicators. Triangle mark on the CPU matching the mark on the slot.
I'm not entirely sure what's wrong. No clue at all. And I'm still curious about this "FF" code.

FF has seemed to indicate the board was bad in the past....
Before BUYING a new cpu, I would probably rma both the cpu and mainboard.

Z77 Mpower 99 issue & b2 issue

Hi my computer parts are the following
CPU: Intel i7 3770k
RAM: G.Skill Sinper F3-1866C9D016GSR (2x8gb)
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce Gtx 670 Windforce OC
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2
CASE: Aerocool Strike-X GT
HDD: Raptor 150Gb Sata
PSU: LC-Power LC8700 Hyperion 700W
When I start my computer I get an error on the m/b (Code 99) and my computer get stuck. I connect my gpu through DVI on my Dell U3014. Screen is black and on the right bottom corner I can see the number "99"
When I unplug the gpu I get the (Code b2) error and still I can not enter on the bios.
Gpu is working great on another computer
No bending pins on cpu. I have checked that twice.
Any suggestions?

I will try with another PSU out of the case with just Ram and Cpu on it and try both GPU and integrated GPU chip.

PS.yesterday I tried to plug a different GPU and different RAM with no positive result.

MSI Z77 MPower Nec/Renesas USB 3.0 Issue

Hi everybody and excuse my english
I've an issue that lasts for a while but that i've never managed to fix,
the 4 USB 3.0 Nec/Renesas ports of my Z77 MPower works only half the time, here are the explanations :
When I used to boot the PC and get to the Windows 8 x64 (or 8.1 x64 now, like i said it lasts for a while), either the 4 USB Ports works (as many time as the PC doesn't shutdown), or doesn't work (sams thing), and in both cases, a restart doesn't change anything (so if it works at boot, it continues likes that, or else if it doesn't work the 4 Renesas USB ports aren't recognized using "UVCView.x86.exe") I have to shutdown the PC, and start it again to have their "state" changin', means get them work (or vice versa) which is annoying after a certain time
so, to resume and schematize all this we have these 2 scenarios
Scenario 1 :
works -> shutdown -> start -> doesn't work -> shutdown -> start -> works -> shutdown -> start -> doesn't work -> ... etc
Scenario 2 :
works -> restart-> works -> restart-> works -> ... etc
(it goes the same when it doesn't work, so the restart doesn't change anything, only a coldboot does)
Of course I have all the drivers up to date (3.0.23 for the USB controler), the firmwares are up to date (including USB 3.0 NEC/Renesas Controler in version 2.0.2.4 downloaded from Station-Drivers), and also the UEFI is up to date with the "MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool"
I precise that happens with ou without Overclock (I thought there was a link, but no), I read that disabling WiFi/Bluetooth helps (not my case)
obviously all the controlers works fine, and the Intel USB 3.0 (and 2.0) haven't this little issue
Few minutes ago, I've uninstall all the drivers (intel, nvidia, renesas, ... etc) cleaned the registry, reinstalled all the drivers downladed from MSI official site (except Renesas unavailable on MSI's W8.1 Drivers page),
the result was the same thing, but had a new element (I should have tried it first) when it doesn't work, it also doesn't work in the UEFI for this, I tried a bootable USB key (the one I use to install Windows) and there one coldboot on two (and not a reset or restart) the UEFI recognizes the USB key, and just like in Windows in all cases the intel USB 3.0 (and 2.0) ports work
in you opinion what can be the problem ? and (mainly ) what can be the solution ?

Now I just tried to uninstall-clean-reinstall-testing with many versions of Renesas USB 3.0 Drivers
Native version of windows 8.1 (by microsoft)
The DVD version the one delivered with the motherboard (3.0.12.0)
Downloaded versions (3.0.20.0 et 3.0.23.0)
obviously same thing as before, as I thought, so finally it isn't a driver issue afterall
on the other i tried something, when i shutdown the PC and coldstart it back it works once on two, but when I also shutdown and start back the PSU it works all the time
if anyone has an idea or understand what's happening here, let me know

Overclocking 3770k and MSI z77 Mpower

I recently purchased a new PC with these specs and wanted to get started overclocking it. I tried a soft overclock of just 4.4ghz and it seems to be hit or miss. I'm fairly new to overclocking so i'm not 100% sure what changes I should be making to increase stability or what the symptoms are of an unstable OC aside from the system crashing.
I grabbed a few pieces of software to get started, CPUZ, Prime95 and Realtemp. Not sure if I need anything else. I also noticed the motherboard has an overclocking profile feature, is it possible to share overclocks with other people and have them work?

I also did a bios update yesterday to h.80 or ...latest that liveupdate gave me. I used the tool on MSIHQ to format a USB stick to do it and it seemed to do it for me on restart.

First, careful with live update and bios update. Using the forum flash tool and archives here is safer. >>BIOSes<<
As for the overclocking recommendations, first we need to know what kinda of OC you want to do? A turbo type w/ all power savings intact? If so here are some screen shots of similar boards: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162043.0
The big things that people miss at first is vdroop. If you want to oc very much, you will need to manually set that to 100% for starters.
Otherwise, post screen shots of you uefi bios settings and we can look it over.

BOOT ORDER issue? MSI Z77 MPOWER + SSD Samsung 840pro

I have an MSI z77 MPower m/b - Intel i7/ 3770k and two hard disk drives...
First HHD (Samsung SSD 840PRO 256gb) connected on SATA Port 2.
Second HHD (WestedDigital WDC 2TB Green) connected on SATA Port 6.
The CDDVD is connected on Port 4.
The SSD has WIN7 .
The WDC 2TB, has 2 partitions. One with WIN8 and the other for BACKUP.
In the MSI BIOS under BOOT menu, i chose the HARD DISK DRIVE BBS Properties as shown :
Boot Option #1 Samsung SSD 840Pro
Boot Option #2 WDC WD20EARS-...
When I start my computer it usually boots on WIN7 from the SSD (1st choice).
The problem is that SOMETIMES after shutdown, the computers changes the BBS order and BOOTS on WIN8 from WDC.
When I re-enter on the BIOS the HARD DISK DRIVE BBS Properties is changed to:
Boot Option #1 WDC WD20EARS-...
Boot Option #2 Samsung SSD 840Pro
Can anyone help me with this boot issue?

Use the disk management to make sure the boot partition of the WD drive isn't active.

USB 3 Issue Z77 Mpower

Hi,
My Motherboard is a MSI Z77 MPower, with the Bios 17.12 (last), I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits
I'm desperated, i do not manage decidebly to make my USB 3 ports working...
In device manager, I have under "Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E2D" an unknow device and UB91.
When I connect an USB 3 Device, on 6 my 6x Intel USB 3 back ports i have no reaction, when it is on 2 x USB 3 Renesas i have a message of "This device will perform faster if connected up to a super-speed USB".
I have tried to unistall all my drivers conserning USB and chipset, and to reinstall them, same issue;
I have reinstall Windows on an other HDD, same issue;
I have tried to flash the Renesas firmware as mentionned in other topics, Device not found,
Tried to Clear CMOS, the same issue...
PLEASE HELLPP ME !

MSI z77 MPOWER Poor GPU Benchmarks!! HELP?

I just installed my MSI Z77 MPOWER yesterday.

Case - NZXT Switch 810 White
Power supply - Corsair TX750m
Motherboard -MSI Z77 MPOWER
CPU - Intel -5 2500k
CPU Cooler - Corsair h80i (Love this thing.)
Memory - Mushkin 16gb Blackline
SSD - 2x 128gb Sandisk Extreme
Storeage - WD Caviar Black 1TB
Graphics Card - GTX670 Galaxy 1062Boost - 6368 Memory Clock
Fans - 4 Corsair sp120's (I Hate them, so im buying noctua)
NZXT 140's
OS 1 Windows 7 Ultimate
OS 2 Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Full Video, Audio, Ethernet Support, Still working on usb3.0 its been giving me a hard time.
Now i love this board. Probably the best motherboard of 2012 hands down. Now my only gripe is im getting poor performance with unigine heaven. I have not tried other benchmarks besides geekbench and thats cpu related. Now my previous mobo was the p67 fatality performance, which was an ok mobo, i had some issues hense the new Mpower. I was gettting 1500-1600 points on heaven with everything maxed out @1920x1080p on the asrock fatality board. I have an effective stable cpu overclock of 4.4ghz and im not going further, i dont need to, my current gpu specs are above. with the msi moard im getting 1100 and thats putting lightly, one time i got 900. Now what do you suppose my issue is? I seen an option in bios settings>PCI subsystem settings> PCI BUS clocks are at 32, Is that the preferred clock for that, or is any of the other options like 248 bus clocks? Im not familiar with this bios setting as i didnt have this in my last board? I need input on this issue.

I usually set mine at 64, but unless you have other add-in cards, I don't think that setting makes much difference.
