Z77 MPower RAID 0 (2SSD) Win 7 can't Install

Z77 MPower RAID 0 (2SSD) Win 7 x64 can't Install.
Created in the bios util the Raid0, both are connected to the SATA3 ports, one is a Vertex 3 and the other a Vertex 4, both 128GB.
Windows starts install from DVD, let me choose the unit (the RAID one made with the two SSD), but when I try to continue It tells me the cant create system partition.
I tried loading the driver for rapid storage from a pendrive, the driver seems to load ok in the install, but the same result.

Remove all other hard drives and re-try. If one of those other disks is a dynamic disk it will fail.
Then re-format and re-try.
Goood, one of the other discs is Dynamic!, let me see if it works with only the raid plugged in.

  • Msi z77 mpower sli and areca raid controller

Hello, i own an Msi z77 mpower and i have recently upgraded to an SLI config (dual GTX680's)
The problem is since then i can't get my hardware raid card (Areca arc-1212, with latest bios) to work, it bleeps but i don't get the raid info screen or menu.
I've put both the graphic cards in the top two pcie 16x slots (PCI_E2 and PCI_E5) and my Areca in the bottom one (PCI_E7)
As far as i understand i should be able to run 3 pcie cards at 8x/4x/4x right?
The only slot where the Areca works is the PCI_E5 slot, and i can't put a GTX680 in the PCI_E7 slot because of spacing.
I'm also running a Xonar sound card in one of the pcie 1x slots (PCI_E4)
    Running with a Intel I7 3770k and 4x4gb of ram and Windows 7 x64.
I'm running the latest beta bios.
    Please help!

    Thanks for the fast reply!
But what use does the 3th slot have then?
Also a 4x gen3 slot has the same bandwith as a 8x gen2 slot right?
I feel a bit mislead, knowing this i would have chose a different board.
Other boards will have the same problem. The CPU has 16 lanes to divide and Nvidia demands 8/8 for SLI. That leaves no lanes left for the third slot.
Using CrossFire should leave you 8/4/4 as AMD doesn't demand 8/8 for CrossFire.
You'll need the use the slots using the lanes coming from the PCH if you want to use additional PCI-e devices.
The X79 platform might suite your needs better. That has 32 lanes to divide from the CPU + the ones from the PCH.

  • MSI Z77 MPower : Newbie RAID question

    Hi,
I have a MSI Z77 MPower motherboard with a i5 3570k Processor. My OS and programs are installed on a 250 Gb SSD and I have a 600 Gb HDD for storage. I've had that last one for a while.
I'm looking to upgrade my storage and set up a NAS in my enclosure. I wanted to buy 2 identical 3 or 4 TB drives and hook them up with a RAID 1 configuration or buy 3 or more 1 to 4 TB drives and try a RAID 5 or 6 configuration. This would replace my 600 Gb HDD and be used for storage only (not OS).
Now I know my motherboard is supposed to be compatible with Raid 0 and 1 but I have a few questions :
1- Is it in fact compatible with raid 0 and 1 ?
2- Do I need a extra raid controller to go for a raid 5 or 6 configuration ?
3- Is the raid setup done in bios or in windows ?
4- Is there a guide on how to proceed I could look into ?
    Thanks

    1: yes!
2: yes for raid 6 and no for raid 5 as raid 6 you need a raid card for that as it takes more processing to accomplish that as its algorithm based! (for raid 5 or 6 you need 3 drives minimum in the array as one is used as redundancy)
3: to set up a raid array you may have to reinstall all your files/Programs as the operating mode changes as you have to make the drive mode RAID in integrated peripherals and then upon booting system you will be prompted to press CTRL+I to enter the intel RAID setup and you will be able to build the array there! (note to use the array you will need to make sure you have the intel raid drivers installed on your computers OS)
4: http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/Z77-MPOWER.html#/?div=Manual <--- thats the manual and it has a section devoted to setting up a raid array and stripe it accordingly!
    notes:
raid 0 2xdrives twice as fast as RAID 1 and you would have all the space of 2 drives but but has no redundancy so if a drive fails you have had it all is lost!(needs equip numbers of drives)
raid 1 has full fail safe redundancy but will only be as fast as a single drive as it writes the same data to both! (needs equip numbers of drives)
raid 5 has fast operation and 1 drive fail safe but takes processing to generate the array may have a slight hit on your processor if using one as that will do the calculations(minimum 3 drives as one will be used as a safety)
raid 6 is similar to raid 5 but is slightly less effective in writes but is quicker on reads and retains a fail safe feature but requires more processing by a dedicated card to do it(3 drives minimum)

  • [SOLVED] Z77 Mpower can't detect second graphic card

    Hi everyone
I'm experiencing a problem with my Z77 Mpower.
It's not able to detect the second graphic card.
    The complete configuration includes:
    Z77 Mpower
    i5 2500k
    2*4Go G.skill 1866MHz
    GTX680
    8800GT
    Crucial M4 256Go
    Corsair AX750
The idea was recycling my old 8800GT as a dedicated physx card
Due to massive cooling the GTX680 will be installed on the second port
Both graphic cards works perfectly when installed alone and I also tested with a GTX570 and results are the same
When I install only one card, it works on 1st port at 16x or 2nd port at 8x,
but if there is 2 cards installed only the first works and bus-width is 8x according to CPU-Z, the second one is invisible in windows, GPU-Z or driver
I didn't tested the 3rd port because my sandy bridge has limited pcie lane
I tested it with bios 17.4 and beta H53, results are the same, I also tried with and without 6 pins power supply on the mainboard and the problem is still the same.
I tried this graphic cards configuration on a gigabyte z68 ud4 and same cpu, ram, vga and psu and it works perfectly.
Is there a bios setting to enable multi gpu ? (tried to enable igp multi screen without result)
Is it possible to have defective pcie port for multi gpu when all pcie ports works alone ?
I have another question about this motherboard
is it possible to have a dynamic vcore related to eist while overclocking ?
on the gigabyte z68 ud4 it's possible by setting vcore on normal and playing with load line calibration and offset
on the mpower this settings appears in bios but are not graduated the same way and I don't understand how they works.
    Thanks for your help

    Thanks for your help flobelix
I already tried and benched this physx configuration on my old gigabyte motherboard
in non physx games the 8x limitation barely don't affect the gtx680
in physx games the 8800gt isn't fully loaded and framerate is near the gtx680 alone with physx disabled.
this configuration gives physx graphical bonus without affecting framerate
the 120W limit of the MK13 may be for fanless use, I have 2 90mm fans attached directly on the heatsink and under furmark the card runs 20°C lower than stock cooling and is very silent
I also kept the stock molded metal plate that cool the power supply and ram under the MK13
But due to this cooling this card can't be installed on the first slot
on the gigabyte until you set the dedicated physx card in the driver both cards and all outputs on cards sends the same signal to screen (bios screen is also sent to all cards)
on my mpower only the first sends signal to screen, but i should be able to set (only for testing purpose) the 8800gt as main device and the gts680 as physx card
unfortunately it don't work because it looks like when a card is plugged on 1st port the mainboard disables the 2nd

After 4 months of flawless use, my Z77 Mpower died with smoke. Item under the cooling tubes to the left of the Processor toasted the board.
It's RMA'd. Question I have....will I have to reload Win 7 or will this be easy with a simple plugin the new Board ? Also I feel Cheated by MSI, my replacement board will be a Refurb, Kinda Cheap Warranty for a new board.

Can't comment. As long as the replacement does what your current board does, MSI has fulfilled their obligation.

  • Z77 Mpower SATA connectors

    Hi guys,
I noticed that who assembled the pc connected the dvd rom to the SATA 6Gb connector and the SSD to the 3Gb connector.
Can I invert them safely ? Or I could encounter problems at the boot ?
    Thanks

    I think you shoul invert.
I've just installed Z77 Mpower on my config and for now just plugged a SSD on SATA1 (6Gb) and DVD pionner DVR 216 on sata 3.
On this motherboard, only sata 1 and 2 are 6Gb compliants, so you don't use most powerful of your SSD as you should if it plugged in sata 3~6.
Maybe you 'll only have a message on next boot, due to plugs modifications, validate and ok
Test speed of your SSD with crystaldiskmark before and after change, you 'll see if you win read/write Mb/s

  • Problem with Big Bang z77 mpower and USB3

I built my pc last night and everything was working just fine. I have 3 external harddrives connected to the USB3.0 ports in the back. Last night, I was able to see all 3 (along with my 4 internal harddrives (1ssd, 3 hdd)). I turn it off for the night and then this morning, the only thing I was seeing was my internals. Nothing changed between then and now. I did see a UB91 in the device manager with a yellow triangle.. updated all my USB controller drivers via the downloads from MSi's website which got rid of the yellow device but my USB drives are still not showing. My USB2 ports seem to be working. My mouse/keyboard are connected to the ones in the back. I connected a thumb drive to the front ports of my HAF case (both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports) and it showed up in each one. Not sure why my back USB3.0 ports are no longer working.
Other parts in the build are:
    Intel i7 3770k
    2 x 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz
    nVidia GTX 680
Any ideas what I can do or if its a mobo failure?
Edit: Forgot to put I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

Try opening an elevated cmd promt and manually typing the commands using the files from station drivers.
    Syntax:

if that one doest work, replace the other firmware: f302808.mem

  • MSI Z77 MPower Bios - NO POST

    Hello,
Unfortunately today I stumbled upon a problem.. I was updating the Z77 Mpower bios and it all worked flawlessy for the bios update, when It restarted to update de ME it stopped at 68% and restarted by itself.. It's useless to say that the bios won't start, it does not even post...
The real problem is that this had happened to me a while back too with the other bios so both of them seem bricked
So is there any way to fix it? Since both updated completly the problem happened after a restart and when ME was updating.. It happened exactly the same way with both bios , when updating at 60% + the computer restarted itself and never started again..
Well I'm getting somewhat desperate as I'm in a need on this computer running..
Please tell me there's something that can be done, because I don't want to rma either as I'm in raid 0 and I'll be loosing all of my things..
    Thanks you, regards!

You could also buy a programmer and do it yourself.  I did when I bricked a board.  :-)
I got an SPI programmer based on the CH341A chip and in circuit programming clip for about $20 shipped from China.  Search for EN25T80 or spi programmer on eBay.  It will be less than $10 for a cheap programmer.  The downside is the long wait for shipping.
It turned out that in-circuit programming with a clip did not work on any MSI boards I had.  But connecting the programmer to the JSPI1 header worked perfectly.   The clip works fine with other board manufacturers.  It must have something to do with the way MSI has the bios chips wired.

  • Z77 mpower BOSD when using XMP Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2X1600C8B

    Dear everyone.
Just like you I have joint MSI community by buying an Z77 Mpower  . The Board has great quality and look, i Happy with it until i have some BSOD recently .
    Here my rig:
    CPU: I7-3770K.
Main: MSI Z77 Mpower (Bios H30 on MSI Website)
SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB (OS)
    HDD: 2 SG500GB Raid 0, 2 TG WD Green
VGA: Asus GTX 560Ti Top DCII
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro 700w
    Ram: Vengeance — 2x4GB (CMZ8GX3M2X1600C8B) (at slot 2 and 4)
When i install OS and other apps there have no problem but when i using XMP profile to have my ram work at 1600MHz and set Dram voltage to 1.502, i had BOSD every 20m . What the problems here? Can anyone help me how to set these ram at 1600.
When i check with memtest86+ every thing fine with dual ram, i run it for 10 pass without errors. Then i check 1 stick at slot 2 it's show CAS 6-6-6-20 even i have set XMP profile at bios, is it OK? But then it still had 10 pass without errors.
I check again with slot 4, 1, 3 every thing show 9-9-9-24 when at memtest.
I have try everything but it seem only work with default setup (1333MHz). I wonder if this Ram, Main or PSU error.
    Sorry for my english.

I'm tired now  , what is the correct setup to have 1600Mhz. I test both stick by memtest86+ all pass without any error.

  • Problem with starting msi z77 Mpower

    Hello
i 've just bought a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W
    and a mobo msi z77 mpower(today)
    i have this problem
i have tested the psu with 2 different mobo (the msi stated before and a asus p8z77 v pro) and in both cases the psu fan runs for few seconds and the it stops.i have tried it with and without cpu , with and without case fans , i have the same problem it turns the fans for few seconds and then it stops as if dose not have enough power.
tested the psu with the paper clip test and it works , but when i put the 24 pin connectors and the 8 pin connectors on the motherboard it dosen't. Maybe i do something wrong ?
I've  speak with tech support from cooler master and it seems it's not the psu
honestly i don't know what eles to try /do
    can you help me?
    thank you in advance

To go a step farther, when the board is outside of the case, you should have a monitor connected to the onboard graphics or a discrete card, 1 stick of RAM in the primary DIMM slot, and CPU with it's cooler for initial startup. Be sure to test on a non conductive surface of unprinted plain cardboard or an untreated wood surface.

  • Z77 Mpower boot issue - won't POST

    Hi there
Got a question regarding a PC build that isn't working as well as hoped. Doing this on behalf of my friend but I've been helping him while he builds it so have a good idea of what's been going on.
    Set up is as follows:
Processor: Core i5 3570k (stock, not overclocked or anything)
    Motherboard: MSI Z77 Mpower
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance memory (in 2x4gb)
    PSU: Corsair 800W Gaming PSU
    Storage: OCZ 240GB SSD
Cooling: Zalman water cooling (can't remember the exact model off hand I'm afraid, will try and get that later)
Graphics: HD 4000 integrated (for now, haven't got the graphics card yet)
We built the machine and got it going no problem. When it was first built it booted no problem, so we set up boot priorities and then installed the Windows 8 Enterprise 90 day trial. All good so far. Installed no problem at all at lightning speed and we got into Windows fine. Installed lots of drivers and so forth with no such trouble either. CPU was reporting a steady 25C average temperature on idle and everything seemed to be going smoothly.
Then we hit a stumbling block. We powered off the machine to make a minor adjustment in the case (all while static protected with a wristband), and after doing this we then powered the machine back on. We're now getting a dim red LED (almost seemed half powered) in the DrMOS overheat warning and then two bright blue LEDs next to it indicating the CPU power phase. The fans will spin and case LEDs come on, but nothing else happens other than that and the LEDs. No POST screen or anything like that. It might also be worth noting that now when you plug the computer in, the green LED on the internal power button no longer lights while the machine is off - when the machine was working it would.
I've spent hours trawling through the forums and can't seem to find the same problem happening. We're getting a bit worried that there could be a fault on the board but wondered if we could get some advice from here first. I tried resetting the CMOS with no avail and trying the other BIOS.
As a last resort, we've now removed the cooler and CPU to check the CPU hasn't melted or anything drastic like that and it's absolutely fine - no visible damage. We've left it like that for now until I can get back over there with some more thermal paste to reseat the processor and cooler so until then we're stuck anyway.
If anyone has any ideas or knows of the problem, it would be really appreciated as we're a bit worried! What should we try?
    Thank you!

Many thanks, will give that a try. Is it an RMA to MSI if that fails then? Forgive me for not totally understanding consumer rights - but it was only bought around a week ago - could we get the supplier to exchange it or would it have to go to MSI for repair?
Quote from: xmad on 27-December-12, 05:16:31
Next, remove the main board and place it on a non-conductive surface and test it with a single stick of ram in dimm 2, cpu & cooler. You can try switching the ram ram sticks and dimms, but the last few times I saw anything about the drmos alarm it was a defective mainboard.
While it is out and the cpu is removed though, take a good look at the cpu socket pins and count all the stand off to make sure there are not extras.

  • Radeon 7950 wont work in primary Z77 Mpower PCI 3.0 Slot?! Help!

I bought an MSI Z77 Mpower motherboard with I7 3770K and HIS Radeon 7950 ICEq Boost Edition 3gb back in January.
Ever since I built the computer it WILL NOT boot up with the GPU card in the first/primary PCI 3.0 slot of the motherboard, it just startsup with a black screen, no bios, post or anything. Just a black screen with the fans going.
This card will boot up perfectly fine in the middle PCIe slot. But it runs slower in this slot, at PCIe x2 3.0.
I had the card RMA'd at the time and it came back as fine, and it works in my brothers computer too.
It just WILL not work in the first PCIe slot on the Z77 Mpower.
My much older Radeon 4850 works perfectly fine in the primary/first PCIe slot, and computer boots and works as normal.
So it seems to be a Z77 mpower - HD 7950 incompatibility?
Can anyone advise on this because its doing my head in?!
BIOS is flashed to the latest version as of yesterday and still no joy.
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'd love to swap to Z77-Mpower, but it doesn't have any PCI slot needed for my M-Audio sound card ;-)
I forgot to mention when we've been checking hardware: if I were you, I'd swap HIS 7950 to another 7950 (Asus, MSI, preferably Sapphire, whatsoever) to check compatibility instead of selling out motherboard. It's great piece of hardware, so I'd blame graphic card first than motherboard - for incompatibility. HIS is one of the cheapest vendors (not the cheapest, like VTX3D for example), so maybe it was a reason.
    It's a proof that M-Power works with other 7950s:

  • Z77 Mpower & x16 SLI

    Hi,
I'm running 2 x 670's on an Z77 Mpower mobo and the mainboard tab in CPU-Z is showing the cards running SLI in x8
What is all that about. I thought they are suppose to run in x16? How do I fix that?

no you are wrong as your 1155 socket CPU (as all have the same) has 16 PCI-E lanes total so x8/8x is normal for 2 cards as the board has no PLX lane splitters so can only use what PCI-E lanes the CPU has!
