Z77A-G43 Gaming boot issue

Alright, I'll make this as concise as possible as this board has, quite frankly, tried my patience all week.
However that's another story for another time, to my current issue!
The situation: I've recently bought a new mobo, CPU and RAM and in the process did a fresh Windows install just to clean everything up. No problems there so far. I have downloaded a game from a digital platform this afternoon and so, due to the fresh install, installed the official driver for my Microsoft controller. The restart dialogue box pops up as per usual and I close down what I'm doing and restart. I wait for my PC to boot and...it doesn't. It now just hangs at a black screen with a flashing cursor. (This screen comes after the splash screen, just in case it's relevant)
The things I have tried thanks to Google-fu: I have removed all of my USB devices that are plugged into my PC.
I have disabled legacy USB.
I have changed the boot order, even making it so that my hard drive was the only enabled bootable device at one point.
I have cleared the CMOS to use default settings.
I have used a single RAM stick in Slot 2.
I have attempted the flash a new BIOS using Mflash, however Mflash doesn't detect any BIOS files on my USB.
I have tried to boot using a BIOS on my USB stick. They're detected, but then an issue pops up about the system data map being different from the BIOS data map so it won't boot.
None of the suggestions above have gotten me past the flashing cursor. Has anyone else got any ideas? I'd like to not have to return the board as that would leave me without a PC for a few days, but if I have to then I have to.

Sorry, I realised that more information would be required so I returned before checking out for the night.
CPU: i5 3570K (stock speeds)
PSU: XFX Pro850W Core Edition - Overkill now, but I had big plans when I ordered ha! Mice and men...
RAM: 2x4GB of Corsair Vengeance (running at 1333MHz at the moment as that's what the mobo defaults to until XMB is turned on/voltage increased)
Windows HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
GPU: Gigabyte 560Ti 1GB OC Edition
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64
I can't think of anything else that's relevant at the moment.
Yes, it is the MS Xbox Wired controller (I tried to not use other company names here as I know some forums don't allow it).
I had a look at that before, but the installer gave me the impression that it is to be used on the system you are trying to flash to, and therefore need to boot into Windows for it on the actual machine to then update that machine.
The issue I had before was that the system was just not overclocking. I spent two days doing a huge amount of research trying to get my multipler to stick, but CPU-Z would always just report a stock speed so I returned my mobo to it's stock settings to make sure nothing went wrong by accident and decided to just try again at another time when I had more time to figure it out and play around. I read an obscene number of different posts from different forums, and each one had differing information but none of them worked.

  • Z77A-G43 GAMING Bios Issue

Hey all, i'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue or any suggestions for repair. My motherboard is just over a year old and it seems the bios has packed in on me. I don't want to chuck it because I do like this board with my hardware configuration. Before I go any further I would like to say it is definitely a corrupt bios issue and sadly this board only has the one so I cant swap to bios 2. So my question is this: is there a way to flash the bios without being able to POST? The computer currently cycles through the power up process and shuts down after about 1 second which starts again after about 5 seconds and repeats this pattern until I pull the plug.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

    Quote
Well, I had several problems with the machine over the past few days, The computer keeps failing to post and so I reset the bios as per the manual and all was well again but as soon as I restart the pc, I get the exact same problem. no post and have to reset the bios. This went on for several attempts at rebooting until now it just wont boot and resetting the bios isn't working. I know all other aspects of the setup are working because I have tested them so its the only logical conclusion.
if the computer worked before like you said a year + with the same BIOS,
and you didn't change anything to the BIOS before this happens
then its not BIOS issue, BIOS can't broke by itself

Is there no way to get the board to copy a new bios from USB stick or something?
placing the BIOS stick over USB key
but i don't think that will makes any difference

    Hello all,
I have this weird issue with cold booting while overclocking. I've tried very hard to diagnose the problem but have been unable to find the culprit.
So I'm using an i5-2500k with the mobo in the subject. I have flashed the BIOS to the latest (2.4). So everytime I try to overclock by using a different multi (it can be as subtle has x34) the system will fail the overclock while cold booting. What I mean by that is if I do the overclock from the bios then save&reboot it will load in windows and be totally stable under IBT. I can achieve any kind of overclock up to 4.7 Ghz and it will be totally stable.
BUT, as soon as I do a shutdown of the system, upon booting (cold boot), the computer will try to boot but fail at it. I'll be prompted by the bios to reload default.
I've tried various combinaisons to no avail. I even tried to underclock the processor to sub x33. I don't understand what could be wrong. It seems as soon as I switch to anything else then auto on the ratio, it won't boot from shutdown. Weird.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

  • MSI Z77A-G43 Gaming Crossfire

    Hi there,
It´s my first post here so greetings all  I have a question regarding MSI Z87 G43 GAMING motherboard and crossfire. I noticed, a bit too late, that the G43 does not crossfire in a x8/x8 mode! Is this a performance compromiser? I mean, I´ve noticed a great scaling in BF4 with seetings in High (no AA; with SSAO) running the game with a 3 screen display - compared with single card I went from 50-80 FPS to 70-130.
So, if I understand correctly from the board specs, I have one graphic card at x16 and the other x4?
    Thanks for your attention.

So... I´ve been searching other MSI alternatives towards minimizing the cost of my ignorance. I found MSI Z87-G55 - 3 PCIe 3.0x16. The price is 30€ less than the G45 (110€ vs 140€) and the only visible diference is the network adapter (Realtek® RTL8111G Vs Killer E2205). Can you tell me if this is a good choice?
    My specs:
    Core i7 4770K
    Gskill 2*8GB 1866
    SSD Samsung 840
    ASUS 7970ghz DCII Top
    PowerColor R9280X
Also checked the G55 OC Genie feature in BIOS. I´m currently using that with my G43 and it´s very simple efficient and absolutely stable and trouble free. Is the BIOS in the G55 similar to the G43? Hope you could answer all this m8... sorry for such inquiry :P
    Thanks again for your attention

  • Z77A-G43 OC genie issues?

Hi. I recently bought a MSI Z77A-G43 motherboard and i was trying to use OC genie to OC my I7 2600K. When i went through, put it into OC genie mode, then made oc genie bios controlled; the "Customize" screen for OC genie is completely blank? Any ideas? Thanks...

When you set to OC genie mode it means that you are not allowed to do settings manually. If you think of it a bit closer the name is supposed to illustrate that the settings are being done by a genie.
So EITHER you do all the OC settings manually (customize) OR you leave it to the genie (OC genie II)!

  • Z87-GA-45 GAMING Boot issues.

Hello all, I'm back in the forums again lol
I have as the title suggests, a Z87 GA45 GAMING motherboard. It really dislikes my Samsung 840 EVO 500gb. It constantly says there's no bootable media, or that my boot drive is damaged.
Now, one would assume the SSD is broken. So did I, I RMA'd the SSD (which was only a few months old at the time) and now have another new 840 EVO. Same thing is happening and I doubt I would have gotten 2 duds.
    Rest of my specs;
CPU - i5 4670. Has been clocked at 4.5ghz, it's clock speed seems to have no baring on whether it boots or not.
RAM - 8GB Geil RAM, 8 GB Gskill. Both 1600mhz
    HDD - 2TB, non bootable
    SSD - 500gb 840 EVO, bootdrive. 418GB free
    PSU - 850W Antec Signature
    GPU - Gainward Phantom GTX780
    Case - Lian Li PCX2000
    Motherboard bios version - 1.9
I'm currently downloading windows 8.1 as I lost my boot drive to attempt to repair. I did this last time and it didnt help, but can't hurt.
    Boot order stuff -
    UEFI + Legacy mode
Not using RAID or IDE. It's set to AHCI off memory (I cant risk turning my PC off to check lol)
UEFI hard drive is first in my boot order. The SSD is set as my primary hard drive. Normal HDD is 2nd, just incase UEFI didnt boot for some reason
Forcing windows boot manager (F11) and selecting the SSD options on boot doesnt help
My case has hot swap bays, I've tried all of them and they all work. I have also plugged directly in to the motherboard to no avail.
Unsure as to what I should be doing tbh, any pointers would be appreciated.

No, this SSD has never been in any PC other than this one. I installed 8.1 on it fresh out of the box.
Disconnecting hotswap bays is a work around, not really a fix (it doesnt seem to help either). If I remove my HDDs from the bays, I literally have nowhere to put them, but it hasnt caused an issue since the BIOS update. The case is worth more than this motherboard, so if in the end theyre incompatible, I'll probably keep the case lol
Worst comes to worst I will reinstall, I'm just reluctant to as thats what I did before and it didnt help.
The ram has been in there for the last 4-5months, I'll remove a stick when 8.1 is finished downloading (aussie net is slow as hell). If you look in my post history, I have removed a stick before and it didn't seem to affect anything. Cant hurt to give it another go however.

  • Need a bios update for the MSI g45 gaming boot issue

When i first start my system, I noticed that the board doesn't boot up correctly even if we set the main boot to be the hard disk. The system boot in the EUFI section not the hard disk. I had to use boot override function to choose the hard disk then the system will boot normaly to the hard disk.

    This is a user to user forum. For any UEFI/BIOS modifications, MSI Technical needs to be informed. There are no UEFI/BIOS engineers here;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107326.0  >> How To Contact MSI <<
In the boot sub-section, disable the devices you don't want to boot in the BBS properties, then set the boot order to nothing but the HDD with the OS on it. If this doesn't resolve it, then the alternate workaround is exactly what you did with the Override.

  • MSI Z77A-G43 GAMING with CORSAIR Vengeance Pro CMY8GX3M2A1866C9

    HI,
I need to know please if i can use this ram kit  ?
if yes, can i get the max ram freq (1866MHz) by enableing xmp in bios ?
    cpu: I5 3550 Ivy bridge
    thanx

XMP will not be found under CPU support. Its not a CPU function. Its a pre-defined memory SPD profile that can be used by board manufacturers as a BIOS feature. A sort of a one-stop shop to apply a certain overclocked memory condition.
The RAM manufacturer will have predefined JEDEC SPD profiles programmed onto a EEPROM chip on the mem module. If its overclocked memory, then additional XMP profile/s may be added. This XMP profile can be applied by enabling the XMP feature in the BIOS. This enabling of the XMP then tries to apply the pre-programmed profile to the CPU memory controller. The mem controller may or may not work at this desired XMP setting. It saves you the effort of setting the overclocked mem profile manually.
With Ivy bridge CPUs the mem controller can apply 1600 as default. Anything above that is not guaranteed.
Thus if you have memory with a XMP 1600 profile, then its most probably 1333 memory with an overclocked XMP profile of 1600.
XMP also will only become visible in the BIOS if the memory actually has a XMP profile.
If your memory has a 1866 XMP profile, then that will be applied to the IMC, or at least an attempt will be made. The IMC may or may not work at that OC'ed mem setting. Further tweaking maybe needed, i.e. increased voltage to stabilise. Experience though shows that most of the memory controllers on Ivy will not have a problem with 1866.

    wd caviar black 1tb hdd
    kingston 4gb ddr3 ram x2
    razer mouse and keyboard
    and then I don't remember the exact cpu but it's an i7 @ 3.4
I having issues with the system booting. Every so often when it gets turned off it would get hung up on an A2 error during post and a restart or two would fix the issue, but it is no longer doing the trick. Reading around a little bit I tried unplugging just about everything in an attempt to just get it to boot. Having just the cpu, psu, ram, and mobo going I get an A0 error. Plugging the hdd back in I get a B4 error and with the keyboard added in I get the A2 error. After removing and reinserting a stick of ram it actually booted to windows. I cannot recreate this though so I am thinking it was a fluke. I tried plugging the gpu back in to get an A2 error and then the mouse to get a B4 error.
I checked the cpu for signs of damage to see none, and I've flashed the cmos. When it hangs on one of these errors during post I can press tab and it will say that it is entering setup but then never does. I have never updated the bios so it is still sitting at the default.
I've read a few posts talking about various compatibilty issues that can arise with an un-updated bios, but it has been running fine for just around a year. This only happens from a cold start and is the worst case of the issue to date. Any advice would be appreciated.

With  both sticks in I was getting A2 and with each individually plugged in I get the same error.  Intermittently I  will see  the B4. Clearing cmos  let's me into the bios,  but if I haven't just cleared it,  entering the bios  just hangs forever. Bios  is showing all 8 gigs  of memory being read with system temps fine.  Voltages all looked fine too.  Attempting to save changes and reboot will leave me with a black screen. Discarding changes  will get me to Windows.  Also bios  reminded  me that  my cpu  is the i7-2600k if that helps.
