Z77A G45 Raid issues?

Good evening all,
after I've made plenty of tests, i think i have a problem with the RAID controller. Tried with a single disk, or with a pair of HDD in software raid and all works like a charm. As soon as i configure a controller driven mirror i experience frequent blue screen with spontaneous reboot. At reboot the volume starts to rebuild.
I run actually the latest BIOS, my CPU is a i5 3570k, no overclock, 1x SSD (samsung 840 pro) as boot disk and 2 hdd WD green 1,5 tb.
Do someone else experience the same issue or have a tip?
thks in advance,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975453
To resolve this issue, remove the RAID disk and then enable the RAID driver in the registry before you attach the RAID disk. To do this, follow these steps.
Note Assume that Iastorv.sys is the driver that has to be enabled.
Exit all Windows-based programs.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Iastorv
In the details pane, right-click Start, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
Install the RAID driver by using the installation media, or download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer's Web site.
Shut down your computer and install the Raid disk in the computer.
Restart your computer

• MSI Z77A-G45 RAID Issue

Greetings...
Just got a new MSI MoBo and wanted to RAID1 my two WD Caviar Black HDDs. However, everytime I enable RAID and reboot it goes to a black screen with two "Z"s randomly placed in the middle. Once I get to the "black screen", it will only boot to that screen afterwards and needs a CMOS reset to fix. I have tried everything I can think of, but always get the same results. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on one of the drives with AHCI mode enabled, and have also had IDE mode work fine... but as soon as I enable RAID - black screen.
Everything else on the board seems to be fine. Anyone have any ideas?
SYSTEM:
MSI Z77A-G45 mobo
Intel i5-3570 CPU
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ EVO
8GB Crucial DDR3-1600
EVGA 560Ti 448 Core Classified (Primary)
XFX 260GTX XXX Ed. (Physx)
2 x WD Caviar Black Dual-Proc HDDs
LG DVD Super-Multi Burner
Silverstone Decathalon 850W PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

FIXED - Ended up reflashing the BIOS, which restored the RAID utility. BTW, my G15 keyboard would not register the CTRL-I to get into the utility... I had to use a PS/2 keyboard, which required a CMOS reset in order to recognize. Just posting this in case anyone else runs into this.

• Z77a-g45 RAID problem

I'm having big problems with this board after I've made bios update to version 2.5, which I assume updated also the Intel RST Rom to 11.5.0.1414. Every time I try to install the operating system (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 or Win Server 2008 R2 x64) on RAID configuration (Raid10, Mirroring etc), I can partition the Virtual RAID Disk, it starts to copy all the needed files BUT, after first reboot, the Windows remains stuck at "Starting Windows" screen. I've tried to use "Load driver" option in Windows install step but with no luck : no matter what drivers I choose to load, the system refuses to load them (I've tried different driver versions, x64, x86 etc).
If I choose to not use the raid, choosing in UEFI bios "ahci" instead of "raid" the installation of OS works just fine.
I really need a redundant config as this machine is supposed to be a file server for a small company.
What I need to do to solve this problem.
Ps : excuse my not too good English - I'm not an English native speaker.

The old machine which this new one should replace, worked 4+ years, 24/7, using same software or "fake" Intel ICHxR RAID with no problems. As the performance requirements are very low, a mirrored virtual drive is just enough - the only real advantage, in this particular case, of an addon raid controller could be VmWare ESXi (or other virtualization platforms) compatibility.
What intrigues me more is the fact that this PC worked using a Raid 10 config a week or so, before I made the BIOS update. From that point, I'm unable to install an OS into that machine.
When I'm browsing for drivers in Win install step, it finds a compatible one but I'm receiving a message which states something like I have to provide drivers for 32 bits or 64 signed drivers. I'm tried with different "f6" drivers from Intel and MSI siTes but no luck

• MSI Z77A-G45 can't install window 7 by raid 0

I have a rig which:
CPU: Core i7 3770k
HDD: Two Western Digital 1 TB 7200
Main: MSI Z77A-G45
Power supply: 700W
Ram: 32GB DDR3 1333 MHz
*** VGA card: MSI Geforce nVidia GTX 660 Ti 3GBDDR5 TF
After configuring BIOS to setup RAID 0, I was trying to install Window 7 on my 1.8TB ( which was summed of two HDD )
But I got a problem about couldn't install the O.S on.
***And about the VGA, whenever I plug it in my mobo, my monitor shows black screen as it doesn't recognize the VGA card. What happen if I install window then add the VGA card later? Will it affect on my system later?
And what should I do to install RAID 0 with my stuff? I appreciate all supports.
Thank for read and answer my topic!

The 660ti will require a bios update to use most likely.
Is the system stable enough to flash? The forum flash tool included memtest, run this an so long as no errors or crashes, go ahead a flash to the most recent bios.

MSI Z77a-G45 graphics driver issue.
Trying to install the graphics drivers for this board from the MSI site, I but every time I do so on loading windows 7 my monitor just goes to sleep and I have to roll back the driver in safe mode. This is the same for the driver found in the windows 7 updates.
Iv downloaded the files a few times over and reinstalled windows twice and the problem remains. Can anyone suggest anything? Is there something I’m missing or need to set in the UEFI bios for using the onboard graphics?
MSI Z77A-G45, i5-3570K, 2x 8GB Corsair memory, Windows 7 64bit.
Thanks.

My BIOS is E7752IMS V2.10
Iv already downloaded V2.A
However I have to say the guide at uk.msi.com/service/biosupdate/ , appears to be putting v2.2 on top of v2.2.
it also says "Download the BIOS that matches your motherboard and version number to your USB device."
I'm not entirely sure what is meant by 'version number' but it dose suggest i need to download V2.10 not V2.A ... call me picky but i want to be sure! lol.
Can anyone confirm ether way? It dose seam rather odd!
Thanks.
**edit
Update on my graphics issue
With the default driver, just before the windows 7 log in screen appears. I was getting a portion of it appear first on the bottom 1/8 of the screen. Now its appears to be a snowstorm of bad graphics and its the same when I switched to using HDMI instead.
Not sure if that's a good sign!
For reff my screen is a HP LP2475w tho I'm rather sure there is nawt wrong with the screen.

• Z77A-G45 Issue

Hello,
Two day ago my PC stopped working. Now when I try to turn on the PC it turns on for around 10 seconds (screen is blank) and then shut off and keep on repeating this cycle. I have tested the PC in it's basic setup (motherboard, CPU and PSU) and with a different PSU unfortunately same issue is occurring. Also, the motherboard speaker is not making any sound at all. Has anyone encountered anything like this?
Additional detail: The PC was working fine since April 28th until June 12th. The system was also not overclocked. I have tried to reset my CMOS using the Battery method and the button at the back of my motherboard.
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45 ATX LGA 1155 DDR3 3PCI-E16 4PCI-E1 SATA3 DVI HDMI VGA DX11 USB3.0

And what does the rest of the system consist of ? >>Posting Guide<<
A system that just dies after having worked normally means a dead components somewhere. The only way to find out which one, is to have a similar system available for component exchange to trace which one.
Have you done full CMOS clear ? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Have you tried your MB outside the case on a non-conducting surface. i.e. a piece of cardboard or untreated wood ?

• Z77A-GD80 Thunderbolt (7757) & Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt (7752) & Windows 8 issue

While running Windows 8 with either one of the motherboards, if you have an unknown "Base System Device" in your device manager, you will need to change a BIOS option (figure 1).
VEN_8086&DEV_1548
- Z77A-GD80 Thunderbolt (7757)
- Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt (7752)
Go into the BIOS > Settings > Advanced > Intel® Thunderbolt > Security Level > Set to "Normal Mode w/o NHI". Save and exit the BIOS. When you reboot, the unknown device will be gone (figure 2).
This is Intel issue, however there will be no impact in regards to usability, features, performance, or stability.

It can also be that Intel Smart Connect is now enabled by default if you flash the bios. So if you flash you bios and notice this, with the z77a-gd80, that could be it as well.

• Z77A-G45 - Intel ME8 issue

Hello everyone,
I just assembled a new PC and everything went well, except that when i launch MSI Control Center, i have a pop up saying "Please install Intel ME8 driver to enable CPU overclock".
I'm really a newbie, therefore please excuse me if i'm dumb
In MSI live update 5, i did not update MB Bios because i thought that when the PC is working fine it's not necessary to update BIOS (current version 2.5 / online version 2.9)
Regarding Intel ME Driver, it's weird because it says "current version : not installed", "online version : "8.0.10.1464" and when i tried to download it says that my computer has more recent drivers already installed (Intel Management Engine Interface (8.1.1263). And therefore i decided not to install it, thinking it was not a good idea.
Could you kindly explain to me what i should do ?
Thanks,
Regards,
Vitam

Flash the bios to the most recent full release or beta(Both here):>>Beta BIOSes<<
Do not use live update as it is very dangerous.
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
and follow the procedure.
If you don't follow the procedure, the ME extension of bios will not be flashed.
When complete, download the latest ME driver from here:(Make sure to select the right OS)

• MSI Z77A-G45 and Samsung 840 Series weirdness

Ok so here's the thing
about a week ago i decided that it was time to build a new computer with a Z77A-G45 motherboard
put it together, installed windows 7 64-bit and everything was working just fine - for about 5 days -
but then one morning when i turned on my computer it decided not to boot and just sat there with fans running with an A2 code at the bottom left of the screen
i tried taking out the ram leaving just 1 in and moving it to different slots and trying a different ram block boots thinking it might be faulty ram,
when that didn't work i tried removing the graphics card and boot with just the onboard VGA, reset the CMOS jumper, and even replaced that battery on the motherboard thinking the shop might have shipped an almost dead one, took everything apart and booted it outside the case on a glass surface to make sure it wasn't some sort of short
but the only time it actually wanted to get past the A2 code was when i booted with only 1 of my hard drives, so i started changing my drives around using various combinations of SATA cables and ports (luckily had an extra 5 SATA cables lying around)
eventually i narrowed it down to it wanting to boot with 2 of my 3 drives but the 3rd one (a Samsung 840 series 500 GB SSD, that has no system files or anything fancy other then music, movies and a few games at the moment) getting it stuck on the A2 code
so i set it up as an external USB drive with a SATA/USB converter i had sitting around but then it would get stuck on B4 instead if i booted with the drive connected
however everything would work just fine if i connected the drive after the system had booted up (or even just unplugging and replugging it when it got stuck on the B4)
once back in windows with the drive connected i ran all the diagnostics i could think of but nothing showed anything wrong with it
(and the only thing i had done with the drive before it stopped wanting to boot was to defrag it)
eventually i decided to copy all the files from the drive to a different drive and reformat it as sort of a hail-mary
and to my surprise that actually made it boot up just fine
so i moved it back inside the case as a normal drive just to make sure it would still work (which it did) and then moved all the files back to see if any of them were the culprit - that turned out not to be the case however
it booted up without complaint with all the original files on it
so now my question is why?
what the heck is going on?
did defragging cause some sort of data fault that caused the bios to not be able to read the drive properly or did i just buy a haunted computer?
like i said everything is back in the state it was the day before it didn't want to boot and bios and been defaulted so it's not really an issue at the moment but I'd still like to know what's going on so i can hopefully avoid it in the future
any answers or comments will be appreciated
for your reference a full parts list:
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45
Bios Version: 2.10
Graphics card: Club3D GeForce GTX 550ti 2GB
PSU: Corsair TX 950W - 100-240V ~ 12A 50/60Hz
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K / 3.5 GHz Processor (Stock boxed fan)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance - 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 - 1600 MHz ( PC3-12800 )
HDD: OCZ-Vertex2 128GB SSD (OS)
Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 2TB HDD (Media/Backup)
Samsung 840 Series 500GB SSD (Media/Backup)
OS: Windows 7 64bit Ultimate

This is strange
I have Z77A-G43, and have exactly the same problem with one 1GB sata drive, that works just fine in every other PC.
In my case PC run into restart loop, but with same code A2 as yours.
Strangest part was PC was restarting even if I put HDD into PCI Sata/Raid card !?
So I am guessing here its not a hardware problem, but a software (BIOS) problem.
Now whole pc with Z77A-G43 is at Service because of faulty DVI output (not working).
Will try reformating drive, but need first to buy >1gb hdd to backup that one
Drive is currently working just fine in this 10y old MSI PC =.=
It seams they have stopped making things as they used to, this old mb is one durrable dog.
which was the main reason I went to same company when in question was mb...

• Z77A-G45 System Instability

Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45 (BIOS Version E7752IMS V2.4 - I did not update the BIOS, it shipped this way)
CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge
PSU: CORSAIR HX850 850W
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL
Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX (SATA Port 2)
Optical: ASUS 24X DVD Burner DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS (SATA Port 3)
GPU: EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Main Problem: System Instability. I've managed to get the OS installed, and was able to eventually get VirusScan, Windows Updates, Chipset drivers, and other drivers installed. However, this was a painful process, with several BSOD's, program crashes, and other lock-ups. After doing so, the system is still unstable.
I also have an SSD I intend to use for acceleration via Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST). I plan to eventually plug this into SATA Port 1. But I didn't get that far...
I am not OC'ing - using Standard Mode. The only change I made in the BIOS was to switch the SATA Mode to "RAID Mode". I did this prior to OS installation, per instructions. And during OS install, I loaded the Intel SATA controller, per instructions.
OS install was unusually rocky. First attempt failed. Second attempt worked, but took longer than it should have. After installation... crashing, instability, and BSODs.
Checked Memory a couple times, via Microsoft's memory checking tools. Also reseated all DIMMs, to no avail.
After some amount of troubleshooting, I saw that my memory was being reported as: F3-12800CL9-4GBXL DIMMs. I assume this is correct, and that the "Model" I bought (F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL) just describes the whole package of 4 DIMMs. However, the one thing that is incorrect is that the timing is reported in the BIOS as 11-11-11-28. The timing specs on my RAM are 9-9-9-24. Overriding this in the BIOS to those numbers (for TCL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS) did not make any difference. Instability continued. The memory speed and voltage seems to have been set properly to 1600/1.5V.
The other thing to note here is that I just bought the MSI Z77A-G45 to replace an ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3, which was experiencing the same (but less frequent) instability. I've been using it for a couple months, and decided to try my luck with a different motherboard. Only this one is worse. The only components that were reused were the CPU and RAM (and optical drive, PSU, and Case, if that matters), and the only other thing in common was that I had both set up in RAID Mode.
Thoughts on how I should proceed?
Thanks in advance,
-Todd

Quote from: PiranhaTodd on 28-June-12, 15:07:06
Regarding the memory speed, I'm confused. The maufacturer site (gskill.com/products.php?index=349) says:
CAS Latency 9-9-9-24-2N
Speed DDR3-1600 (PC3 12800)
Also just to confirm, to change the timing, I assume I change this in the BIOS, under DRAM Timing Mode, switch to "Link" (from "Auto"), correct? And when I do this, it enables the "Advanced DRAM Configuration" section. If I double-click that, I can specify 9-9-9-24 (for tCL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS). Former values were 11-11-11-28. I assume I leave all other fields at "Auto"? What is the "-2N" in the CAS Latency description on the GSkill site?
Here is the reason:
They are real DDR3-1600, but that means CAS = 11 @ 1.5V
Their XMP profile is buggy (in fact that's the DDR3-1333 profile).
For 1600MHz with CAS = 9, they need 1.60-1.65V

• Re: What's the difference between the Z77A-G45 and Z77MA-G45

Thank you!
Would you happen to know if I have to use one specific slot for pci-e 3.0 x16? I know some motherboards only offer it on one slot with x8 on the others.
The reason for asking - I'd like to use the lower slot (due to airflow issues in my case...

Since my other thread got moved I'll start a new one.
I've been offered a z77ma-g45 to replace my RMA'd z77a-g45. I can't tell what the difference is, which is a good thing. But before I jump on it I wanted to check if anyone knows what the difference...

• Msi z77a-g45 - BIOS not saving loop

Hi there, I picked up a msi z77a-g45 and an i5 3750k, 4x4GB Kingston RAM, etc etc.
I'm an experienced system builder, but this is my first build in i5 land, or actually on an MSI board. The issue I've got is when I first booted, it shows the "CPU or memory changed !!" and to press F1 for setup or F2 to load defaults and continue. Cool, expected on first boot. I enter setup, get the BIOS how I want it, save and reboot, it immediately shuts my box off and 2 seconds later, back on. All good so far.
But it again prompts the "CPU or memory changed !!" warning. Err...it showed my CPU properly in the BIOS, same with memory.
I've now gone through it quite a few times, and it always re-prompts me to go into the BIOS again or F2 to use defaults.
Doing the F2 deal will get me into Windows, but upon reboot I get the error again and have to F2 again just to boot.
I've tried using Click BIOS to make changes, it however doesn't show any memory in here (updated to latest Click BIOS version), but does show my CPU fine. Shows 0GB.
I've also updated my BIOS to release 25 this morning, no change.
Anyone else have this happen at all? I suppose my next steps will be to drop to a single stick of memory, see if that goes, or do a full 'remove battery' cmos clear. I've tried pushing the clear button on back of mobo but didn't seem to do anything.
Would really appreciate any ideas, thanks all!

• MSI Z77A G45 boot loop

Hi everyone!
I just tried to flash my MSI Z77A G45 today from the bios version 2.1 to 2.A.
I had blackscreens all the time when i tried to flash it with the M-FLASH utility from my bios.
Then everything just started normaly (after each blackscreen), but there wasn't any update, i tried to force the update with LiveUpdate.
And now when i try to start the computer, i just get a blackscreen (no signal for the monitor) and a boot loop.
It just stops and reboot after 10s.
My hardware is working perfectly, i think this is from a corrupted bios issue.
Which things i tried:
- Doing a clear CMOS (nothing happens)
- Removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes (the reboot loop stopped, but there was not any display, i restarted the PC then and the reboot loop started again)
- Cleaning my PC (from dust and things like that), it was not efficient at all
- Booting from a USB key with the bios in, and formated as FAT32, nothing happens too. It doesn't recognize the USB key and anything else (keypad etc.) so the blackscreen was there again.
My Hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570 3.4 Ghz
Motherboard: MSI Z77A G45
GPU: None (Intel graphics 4000)
RAM: 2x4Gb Corsair Vengeance
HDD: Crucial M4 SSD 64Gb
Power supply: Corsair 850W
Do you think that i need to send my mother board back to the RMA?
I hope you will be able to help me, or find a solution
Thanks in advance

You can try the steps found here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0
Otherwise, it is RMA time.
Next time use the forum flash tool and archives found on the forums.
