Z77A-GD55 How to enable PCI slots

Insert the video card in a PCI slot does not see. Does not even appear in the device manager. I'm sure my video card works. How can I fix it?

I would suggest removing the CPU and inspecting the mainboard's socket with a bright light and magnifying glass. I am betting you will find some bent cpu pins.
If both card you tested in this board are 7xxx AMD cards, you might want to try flashing the bios first.

    Being unaware at purchase time, i wonder how can i use quick sync of intel when in d-mode with z77A GD55? I ask this because no lucid hydra/virtu from msi download page. I know the cd contains it but it is not offered to be installed since the board is not lucid signed. If i force install it, the software runs in trial mode which is because of no license from the board. Are the virtu and virtu mvp actually different program? If no virtu support so whats the deal with bios settings to control lucid virtu?
    Please help, it is with this issue that i have lost confidence using msi board (based on the fact that overclocking sucks too since the latest bios 1.3 vdroop control is useless and no offset voltage). So if this can be solved, i have some positive point to at least retain the board as my own. Thanks.

    Quick sync is not a replacement for Virtu. They are two different products.
    Quick sync transcodes movies using the Intel IGPU.

  • How to reconfigure Cards installed in PCI slots

    Hi All
    My customer has OEL linux. installed on his HP DL380 G7 server. It has 4 Emulex LPe11002 dual port cards installed. The cards in PCI slot 3 and 5 are needed for network connection.
    So he needs to configure the cards in PCI slot 3 and 5 to be used for the network using port 0 on the cards.
    Any guidance help would be appreciated.

    What protocol your costumer want to have on those cards?
    IPoFC ?if yes, I haven't done my self, how ever, I did read about time ago, and looks like due the costs of the hardware/switch, all the progress went to 10GE/24GE and infini band.
    not sure if IPoFC is something in the normal skill set of a linux sysadmin.
    What's the speed of those FC cards and switches?

  • How do I know If I have a PCIE slot?

    This might sound like a really stupid question but I need to know how I can tell if my Mac G5 1.8ghz has a PCIE slot for a graphics card. I tried looking at the more info under graphics/display but every time the program crashes. I don't get it. Anyway I want to get a Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX graphics card to run my computer on an HD tv. Any help on figuring this out is appreciated.

    You will have PCIe if you have a Late 2005 Dual Core single 2.0, single 2.3 or dual 2.5 ghz (Quad) G5.
    Yours isn't a dual core, so has 8x AGP graphics.
    Best card for your machine, is a flashed Geforce 7800 GS.

    Using just those 3 PCI slots you're not going to be able to get the 128 analog output channels. You will probably want to go either the MXI-3 (PCI bus extender) to a PXI chassis or E Series DAQ card to a SCXI chassis for such a high channel count system. Which analog output cards and which digital I/O cards you will want depends on your application. You will have to decide whether you will need static or dynamic analog output as well as whether you need clocked digital I/O or not. I highly recommend contacting our internal sales department at 1-800-433-3488. They are great at helping specify systems.

  • PCI slot in Thinkpad Dock II unusable

    Hello, I have a Thinkpad a22m 2628-S1U which can be used with the Thinkpad Dock II. To avoid feeling tempted to buy a new laptop I bought that dock as well as an ATI Radeon x1550 to put in its PCI slot. These items were said to be compatible on http://thinkwiki.org the Linux thinkpad wiki.
    Now that I've tried it out, I'm starting to think the contributors to that site were windows users who didn't read the topic. Starting up docked gave the following lspci output (notice there's no radeon card):

    I've tried multiple options in the BIOS. You can select AGP or PCI as the card for the root display device. The default is PCI so if there's a docked PCI card at POST, the BIOS will use that for the root display device... otherwise it will use the built in card. You can also select the root display device as LCD or CRT or both. The default is CRT so if there is an external monitor that's where the bootloader menu and such will appear, otherwise the laptop's own display gets used. Even if I've understood these incorrectly, all combinations yield a PCI video card that is not detected by lspci.
    I've also tried loading the module dock right after thinkpad_acpi. It loads and appears in lsmod but it doesn't help the situation at all. It also doesn't add a dock file to /proc/acpi/ibm. I also tried passing pci=routirq to the kernel, whatever that does and I've tried changing the four PCI related IRQ numbers in the BIOS and this has not helped.

    The strangest thing has also happened recently. The laptop refuses to use its own display when starting up in the dock unless an external monitor is plugged in. If a CRT is plugged in, the docked laptop starts up and shows the splash screen on its LCD. If no CRT is plugged in, turning on the docked laptop results in a blank screen. This might have happened because I fiddled with the BIOS which would make alot of sense but resetting the BIOS to default configuration hasn't fixed the problem. I also could have broken a pin but the last thing I remember doing before this happened is running cat /sys/module/snd_ac97_codec/parameters/power_save. It's one of those untouchable virtual files that causes a kernel oops when I try to read it sometimes. I have no idea how this would break the dock but it doesn't matter. Even if using the dock requires some external monitor jazz, I still want the card to be detected and it isn't.
    Sorry to bombard you with obscure information but I don't know where else to turn. I've asked on the thinkpad mailing list and IRC channel to no response and I've seen one other "knowledgeable person" mention these errors on the LKML. I will subscribe to that and ask him too. I'm just very surprised... this gave me the impression that what I wanted to do would work trivially and automatically on Linux and now I'm finding that it's broken for me and possibly every other Linux user. I will seek out thinkpad users from around here with all types of models and distros and see if they have any luck. So far Arch, Arch install CD and an ancient Ubuntu install CD don't work here. If anyone has this and can test it or can decipher some ideas from the posted output (new kernel parameters, new kernel config flags, new udev rules, new modules?) I'd really appreciate it.

    I want to install 3 PCI-6534, 1 PCI-6602, 1 PCI-6115 S board in a Industrial PC with a single board computer. Do all the PCI slots need to support "bus mastering" to us the DMA of all the boards?

    Hi Chris,
    Yes all the PCI slots must support bus mastering. That is the only way for our cards to take control and transfer data via DMA. Most PCs (including industrial PCs with PCI-to-PCI bridges) support bus mastering on all slots. If bus mastering happens to be disabled, here are some steps to change that in the bios:
    1. Reboot your computer. Watch for the message during reboot that instructs you on how to enter the BIOS/Setup. Some systems have these messages disabled, so you may need to check your computer's user manual for the keys to hit. Most computers use a function key (e.g., F1, F2, or F10), but it depends on the system.
    2. Once you enter the BIOS/Setup, look for an menu or option that will allow you to view settings for the PCI Bus. Typi
    cal menus will have names like "Advanced" or "Computer Setup". Some systems do not give you access to the settings for the PCI Bus, so if you do not see anything, check with your computer manufacturer for assistance.
    3. Look for an option to "Enable Bus Mastering" and select it.
    4. Save your setting and exit.

  • Dm4 mini-PCIe slot -- SSD or Bluetooth?

    I purchased a Pavilion dm4 1173cl from Costco in November.  I would like to add a small SSD to the mini-PCIe slot (designated for use by WWAN module in service manual) to use for source-code and SQL Server databases (both presenting a usage patterns of high random-IO, which benefit from SSD).  
    I would be keeping the original 500GB 7K drive as boot/os and general app installation, only placing items that would benefit my development experience on the SSD.  In other words Boot-time and application launch performance are fine from the spinning drive, I just want to speed up a few specific (high random-IO) things by using an SSD.
    in particular, I'm looking at the 80GB Intel mini-PCIe SSD (available at NewEgg by searching for SSDMAEMC080G2C1).
    Also curious if I could put a bluetooth module in that same slot (obviously not at the same time as the SSD)?  I'm currently using an external bluetooth dongle, but would rather it were internal if I can't use that space for an SSD.

    Ok, finally found some more info about this.  Turns out mini-PCIe slots are anything but standard.  Instead, mini-PCIe is a reference to a physical slot configuration, but manufacturers are taking great liberties with which of the pins they actually wire-up.    mSATA (which the above-linked Intel SSD utilizes) is one such customization of the mini-PCIe slot, others being USB, PATA (parallel ATA/IDE hard-drive), and who knows how many others... all overloading the use of the 8+18 mini-PCIe connector.
    Since this slot is desgnated for use with WWAN adapter, I'm doubtful it's configured as mSATA to enable use of an SSD... Which presents another interesting issue... since the dm4 1173cl model didn't come with the WWAN module, they didn't even bother soldering in the slot (just as they don't include the SIM card reader nor WWAN antennae in the screen housing).  There are solder contacts on the board, but no card connector. I should have cracked the case open before spending time researching this, rather than relying on pictures from the service manual which covers models that do include the WWAN module.

    Installed my new GPU onto my  MSI - Z77A-GD55 , but monitor stays in power save mode , switched the GPU to the lower PCI2.0 slot (there are 3 of them) top 2 are PCIE 3.0 and the lowest is 2.0 and it worked , but the problem my GPU Fans cannot fit because of the USB/POWER ON-OFF top case buttons(wires) since its right next to the PCI 2.0 slot.
    Bios is updated to the latest version 1.11
    PCI-gen3 is on Auto in the bios settings (There is only Auto and Disable) option.
    Any one has this issue before?

  • Z77A-GD55, no POST after BIOS change

    Hello all -- a few days ago I put together my new build using the Z77A-GD55 (I can give full specs if desired, but it's not like it doesn't work) and everything worked great. I installed Windows 8, configured stuff, played games, etc. No performance problems at all. Last night I went into the BIOS to make a minor change to let the network adapter wake the PC from standby. I enabled a power setting I found and when I saved the settings and rebooted the BIOS, the PC wouldn't boot. No BIOS, no POST, no nothing. The fans were whirring and the LEDs were on (and everything stayed in this state until I cut power), but nothing happened on the monitor (the monitor works fine on another PC, by the way). I tried removing my PCI devices (wifi adapter and graphics card) and the hard drives, but nothing different happened. I removed all the RAM and then tried it with just one in, but both of those put it on a loop where everything would lose power within a few seconds and then try again. I cleared CMOS from the button on the input panel to no avail. I've since put the RAM and the hard drives back in (PCI devices still out) and I'm back to my initial no POST situation. I also tried putting a bootable flash drive in, just in case, but got nowhere.
    The only thing I haven't removed is the processor, but because it only failed after I made a BIOS change, I'm still inclined to believe that that's not the problem (though I will do it when I have time tonight). Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? If at all possible I'd like to get this fixed without replacing the motherboard because I won't be able to get a refund (I regrettably submitted the rebate when everything was working, so no returns), but I understand that that may not be possible.

  • MSI Z77A-GD55 Onboard Sound better than cheap sound cards?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a question regarding my motherboard's (MSI Z77AGD55) onboard sound. I always have a static noise when I use my Microphone and my friends dislike it. If I am recording something, I get the same static and I dislike it. I understand that this is common with the use of onboard sound. My question is: If I buy a cheap video card ~$20-$40, will I still have the static problem? I am asking because I would like to get rid of it, but I am not willing to spend a lot of $$ on it. I also have plenty of PCI-Express 1 slots open for a cheap sound card. My motherboard has no PCI slots.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat. PCI Slots DEAD

    Hey guys - i just realized i have a big problem with my Neo2 Platinum..and it has happened on all 3 Neo2's i've had, so i definitely don't think its a motherboard problem...either way, i have ONE PCI card...its a LaCie Firewire800 Interface Card. I put it in and my windows will NOT recognize it. Very strange. I had been assuming until now that the card was just defective, however, i stuck the card into a friend of mines computer and sure enough, booted into windows and it detected it! So its not the card, just my PCI slots...i've tried it in more than one slot too, all to the same effect..unfortunately, i don't have any other PCI cards at the time to attempt to put in to see if it will make a difference...but in the mean time, does any of you have any idea what i can try to make this card work?     In the bios highlight the cell menue and push Shift+F2 and ALT+F3.
    The hidden option "PCI clock Auto detect" is to disable clock signal
    to unused pci slots , this cause less interference and emi at the board level.
    Its recomended to have at auto .
    When new pci board is inserted system data should be updated and the slot gets pci clock signal .
    -Set this to disabled to enable pci clock signal to all slots.
    That could explain the problems others have had with sound cards. I wonder how the "detection" mechanism works. Perhaps some PCI cards are slow at posting and are not ready to respond when the motherboard sends out signals to detect devices?

  • Enabling pci gpu after onboard rgb connector broke off

    I've had this machine for some time... and I like it! I had previosly installed a gforce 210 gpu in a pci slot. I took it out when I let my daughter use the computer for awhile so all the drivers & software are still installed. I just set the bios back to onboard graphics. She proceeded to break the onboard rgb connector clean off the motherboard. Now I have no visual graphic interface to be able to enter bios setup and change it to pci graphics output. I know it has Phoenix Bios but can't confirm what version. Can someone with this same machine log every keystroke entering into bios setup, making this change and exiting with save then post results here for me. Or if there is another way anyone knows to make this chage without being able to view anyting. Please and Thank you sooo much.

    Here's some good news for anyone with a Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769, who is disappointed and frustrated with the lack of options in the BIOS setup menu. (I had a moan about that in this thread.)
    This is a long post but I hope you'll find it worthwhile. Here are the features/settings which I will explain how to enable:
    The BIOS disables the execute-disable bit function of the CPU, with no way to turn it on. You can enable it.
    You can set VGA and VESA graphics modes to not be stretched to fill the whole screen (sharper graphics with no distorted aspect ratio).
    Speed up the POST display by skipping the memory test
    Disable various features (if you don't use them, that might save some power): the HD audio controller, WLAN card, on-board LAN, shadowing of the video BIOS
    Enable beep before booting the OS
    Enable key click sound (only in DOS, not Windows or Linux)
    I'm still working on this, and hope to figure out more hidden settings soon, e.g. to disable the DVD drive and trackpad, and to change the video output from NTSC to PAL.
    The information below applies to the Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 with BIOS version 3.03. My N200 has Nvidia graphics. For some background on the general principles/research required to figure this out, please see this thread at Wimsbios.com.
    To change the settings, you need to create a bootable DOS floppy disk or USB drive. Download SYMCMOS.EXE (Google for it) and put it on the bootable disk. Boot the disk and run SYMCMOS to back up your current CMOS settings: SYMCMOS -Lsettings.txt
    Next load the settings.txt into a text editor. It will begin like this:
    ( SYMBOLIC CMOS EDITOR - Version 643710-035 )
    CRC = 3EDD
    (0000) [0001]
    (0003) [0001]
    Your CRC value may differ. Each line after the CRC contains a token number, followed by the value of that token. You can start with the settings.txt you created and edit any tokens you want to change, or delete all token lines and just include the tokens you want to change. Then use SYMCMOS.EXE to apply the new file: SYMCMOS -V2 -Uupdate.txt
    After running that command you can reset, and hopefully notice the new settings in action. (For certain settings, such as re-enabling the execute-disable bit, you need to turn the computer off then on again.)
    Here are some specific tokens you can change:
    Token Default New Description
    (0000) [0001] [0000] Disable the HD audio controller
    (0042) [0001] [0000] Disable LCD panel graphics scaling/stretching
    (004B) [0000] [0001] Beep before booting the OS
    (0267) [0001] [0000] Enable support for the CPU execute-disable bit
    (028E) [0000] [0001] Enable key click (only works in DOS and BIOS setup)
    (02A3) [0001] Set to 0 for slower memory test, or 2 (or 3?) to skip
    test for faster booting, especially with 4GB RAM
    (046E) [0001] [0000] Disable video BIOS shadowing. (Best to leave enabled.)
    (0471) [0000] [0001] Enable 1MB memory hole at 15MB. (Best leave disabled.)
    (0486) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express ports 1-6. This takes precedence
    over the individual port bits below, and disables the
    LAN, WLAN and (probably) ExpressCard port.
    (0489) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 2 (WLAN card)
    (048C) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 3 (maybe ExpressCard?)
    (048F) [0001] [0000] Disable PCI Express port 4 (LAN)
    For example, if you want to disable LCD panel scaling and enable the execute-disable bit, you would create a text file like this:
    CRC = 3EDD
    (0042) [0000]
    (0267) [0001]
    Some final points:
    Loading the default settings in the BIOS setup menu will overwrite any changes you make using SYMCMOS.EXE. So keep that bootable disk around in case you need to re-apply your settings in future.
    The token numbers above are specific to version 3.03 of the Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 BIOS. They might be different for earlier BIOS versions, and will be different for other models of computer.
    Once you have created a bootable floppy disk with a text file containing your updated settings, you could create a bootable CD with the floppy's data on. Just boot that CD to restore your settings in future.
    Before experimenting with randomly changing token values to discover other hidden settings, make sure you know how to reset your computer's CMOS memory! Changing some settings results in your computer becoming unable to boot, so you can't use the BIOS setup screen to reset. I wrote about how to reset the N200 model 0769 CMOS in this thread.

    I've nothing telling me it is a 3.03 BIOS version but only got the BIOS file name (68ET35WW);
    Is it the same BIOS you used and if not how could I find the list of (token, default value,new seting) for that particular BIOS ?
