Z77A-GD65 Asmedia error with Intel set to RAID

I've had my boot drive and an SSD on the two Intel SATA 3 ports, for RST.  The controller was set to RAID mode (as it has to be), the discs were listed as non-RAID when it booted, and the cache was working fine.
I just bought a new drive, plugged it in, and found when anything is connected to the Asmedia ports (in either ACHI or IDE mode) when it boots, it gives the "A disk read error occurred, press CAD to restart" message.  Strangely enough, I found that if I powered the drive up after I was in Windows, it would recognize properly and work fine - but that's not what I'm looking for.
So far the only way I've been able to get the machine to boot with the drive connected was to turn off RST/switch the Intel controller back to AHCI.
If anyone knows a way to work around this so I can get both to work at the same time, I could use the help.

That's what I did - the boot drive and the cache ssd were always on sata 1 and 2 (which I'm pretty sure is required for RST to work anyway) and my optical drive is on 3; I plugged the new drive in 7 on the Asmedia controller so I could get the full sata3 benefit.
I would assume that anyone trying to use any form of hardware raid on the Intel controller would run in to the same problem (without drives on the secondary controller in the raid, obviously), but I can't find any specific reference to that anywhere.
Also the same thing happens on the official 10.7 bios release that just came out, which I tried as well.

  • Z77A-GD65 Gave Error Code CA with ASUS Radeon HD 6450

I have a Z77A-GD65 based system primarily as a file server and for video editing which has been working fine for about a year.  I finally got around to installing two Radeon HD 6450 cards from ASUS and the motherboard gave me a hardware code CA.  The cards went in the 2nd and 3rd x16 slots; the first one has a RAID controller.  I removed the 2nd card and same thing.  I removed the first card as well and it booted normally.  I understood this to be a compatible card.  Suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Don Estes

if you just plug VGA card to 1st and 2nd slot (without your RAID card),  will boot up be ok?
have you tried updating to the latest bios?

  • Z77A-GD65 Quick Sync with Virtu MVP Issue

Hi everyone! My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but my searching didn't find anything conclusive. I'm a very happy convert from an EVGA P67 SLI board (ugh) to an MSI Z77A-GD65 (YAY!) So far, I absolutely love this board but I'm having an issue I hope someone can answer. I run a YouTube channel and render a lot of video using Sony Movie Studio Platinum. This product is supposed to support Intel's Quick Sync technology to greatly speed up processing times. Normally, you need to have a monitor running off the IGP for this to be available but Virtu MVP is supposed to get around this. I have a GTX770 as my main video card and a Core i7-2600K which is confirmed to support Quick Sync. However, I've had no luck getting Quick Sync to appear as available to Movie Studio Platinum. Here's what I've done:
    1. Enabled IGP in the BIOS (also tried making it the primary display adapter, didn't change anything.)
    2. Installed latest drivers for both Intel HD 3000 and my GTX770. Both are available to the system.
    3. Set Virtu MVP as D-Mode (either mode supposedly enables Quick Sync and D-Mode's obviously better for gaming.)
    4. Installed the Virtu MVP software and created a profile for Movie Studio Platinum. Tried it in both D-Mode and I-Mode through the software.
The short of it is that Movie Studio Platinum does not recognise Quick Sync as being available. It's just not selectable which means it can't detect it. I've also tried plugging my secondary monitor directly into the IGP. This isn't supposed to be necessary with Virtu MVP but I don't game on my second monitor so whatever. Still nothing. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do now. I've been told that most mainboards require you to enable Quick Sync specifically in the BIOS but I don't see that option. Is it just always enabled when the IGP is on this board or does it have to be toggled elsewhere?
If anyone has advice on this, I would really appreciate it. My purchase of this board wasn't contingent on Quick Sync but given the amount of video rendering I'm doing right now, having that acceleration would be a massive boon to me. This feels like I'm just missing something simple. Any advice people can offer? Thanks a ton everyone!

I actually did download the latest MVP from their site, is that what you're talking about or something else?
I'm pleased to report that my Quick Sync issue has been resolved and well, it was pretty much my fault. Turns out only certain rendering profiles in Movie Studio Platinum are able to use Quick Sync. Their documentation didn't make this clear but I stumbled over the solution and it's working like a charm. Thanks!

  • Z77A-GD65 USB3 port with Seagate Freeagent go desk issues

I have a Z77A-GD65 motherboard, with an intel i5 Ivy Bridge 3570k processor. Kingwin LZP-550 PSU and have attached via USB3 (using a USB3 cable of course) a seagate Free Agent Go Desk 2TB external hard drive.
On my old system the drive when the system is on, is running just spins down when its not in use.. power light stays on for the drive all the time. That was also a USB3 system, just another USB3 chipset.
On this motherboard, sometimes the drive when the system is powered up doesn't turn on and I have to unplug the USB cable and replug it in, after that the drive power LED comes on and spins up.
Any reason why this motherboard is acting like this? The drive should come on with the system like it did on my old system.
Anything I can do to fix this or change the USB ports behavior? It's almost like its not telling the device it's on.

Attached is the latest beta bios for your board.(MSI recommended this)
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
MSI tried to duplicate the problem but couldn't does this testing procedue seem right to you?
    1.   Install System driver and reset
    2.   Connect USB HDD to USB 3.0 port. The device can be recognized.
    3.   Reboot the system
    4.   Check Computer and still can find the USB HDD
    5.   Power off the system
    6.   Power on and check Computer.
    Z77A-GD65
    BIOS: E7751IMS.A50
    WIN7 64 bit
    USB 3.0 driver: 1.0.4.225
    Seagate FreeAgent Goflex STAA1500301 1.5TB
I installed that BIOS and still have the issue, one easy way to reporduce this is to power up the system into windows 7 x64, sleep the computer in (sleep mode in bios is set to S3) when you wake it, the USB3 drives are offline

  • Z77A-GD65 - fast ram and Intel Rapid Start don't work together??

    Greetings.
I have got 2x4Gbyte G.Skill CL10 2400Mhz ram. When running this ram at its default speed at 2400Mhz, Intel Rapid Start don't work. When I shut it down, it acts normal until the point where the system "wakes up" for a few seconds to write to the special partition for IRS. The PC then try to reboot, but after 2 attemps it says that the Overclocking has failed and I have the choise of F1 (setup) or F2 (load default settings and continue).
If I lower the ram speed below the default speed (i.e. don't use the XMP profile), then Intel Rapid Start works fine.
Memtest86 do not show any error at all after 4 pass with the G.Skill at 2400Mhz. To me it seems like the motherboard can't handle this speed at the state in Intel Rapid Start.
Anybody with info about what to do?

The internet is bloated with paid "reviews" ...
Here is what you have and what you paid for:
    http://ark.intel.com/products/65520
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) : 32 GB
    Memory Types : DDR3-1333/1600
    Memory Channels : 2
    Max Memory Bandwidth : 25.6 GB/s
Intel does not guarantee anything above 1600MHz.
On the top of that, 25.6 GB/s bandwidth is enough for DDR3-1600 in dual-channel only.
In other words, above 1600Mhz the perfomances boost is close to ZERO.
RAM speed over 1600Mhz does nothing? That WAS true, but not anymore. First of this:
    Anandtech:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6372/memory-performance-16gb-ddr31333-to-ddr32400-on-ivy-bridge-igp-with-gskill
    xbitlabs:
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/ivy-bridge-ddr3.html
    overclock.net:
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1438222/battlefield-4-ram-memory-benchmark
Second, I can messure a real performance difference when using this memory at 2400mhz vs 1600mhz, f.i. Winrar5.01 x64, when searching in reg.database, and other memoryhungry programs. My graphic-card is not powerfull enough to show any difference in games, but almost anything else I _can_ se a difference.
If you honestly can read these 3 links and still say, that memory speed does not matter, I think I know more about this than you
I'm quite sure, that a big place like Anandtech is not payed to show up this result.

  • URGENT!! Drill Down Error with Character Set non-ascii on Discoverer Viewer

    Hi,
We have an error in a Drill down. It comes up when the Discoverer Viewer tries to process data that contains special character (non-ascii) in a query's filter. The same report that does not perform well with special characters, does perform well if the data don’t contains special characters, so it seems to be an issue processing non-ascii chars in this Discoverer Viewer instance.
Ex. FIELD_NAME = 'öÜæäé (This filter is contained in a query that this getting an error msg="We're sorry, the server encountered an unexpected condition" ).
It might be possible that there are some problems with the Discoverer charset ?

  • MOVED: Z77A-G43 no SpeedStep with manually set multiplier

This topic has been moved to Overclocking, Undervolting.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165305.0

I was told that Z77A-G43 should be just fine for my needs. Couple years ago I bought high end MB and it was a mistake, they are putting there so many useless stuff for which I need to pay ... (like firewire which I never used).
Z77A-G43 is fine for me but I was not aware before buying about all of its limitations. It is quite ok now when I figured out in UEFI where the needed options are hidden. Probably on better board I would be able to get from 200 to 400 Mhz more from CPU but to do that I would need to take off the IHS and pay almost 2 times more for the motherboard. (and pay for useless stuff like two quick PCIE ports (I am not planning to have a SLI/Crossfire), dozens of SATA ports etc.) If there were good board in decent price I would bought it but I do not need a motherboard for a homemade datacenter
Regarding Lucid earlier I had Abit (also the lower end) and I am not used to be virtually limited by having minimazed bios options or lack of software support. Of course this was different vendor with different business approach.
Asus cheap boards like P8B75-M have support for Virtu MVP ... so it's doable and affordable but MSI wants to have an argument over selling more expensive boards. Now I totally get their marketing strategy.

  • MSI Z77A G43 A2 Error with Bluray SATA Drive

    Hey guys!
My old Asus P67 motherboard died last week so I bought this board as a replacement. I plugged everything correctly and it seemed to work at first. PC booted fine into windows and I was able to play all my usual games and do my usual stuff.
After an hour or so I restarted the PC after installing the new chipset driver and LAN + Audio driver. I then got the A2 problem. I get this error code before the BIOS Picture. I googled around and it seems to be a problem with the SSD/HDD connectors or something. I then went about trying to find out which drive was causing it and it was my Bluray SATA Drive. The PC will start fine if I do not connect it, but once I do I cannot get passed the A2 error. I tried running the MSI Live Update 5 software to update my BIOS but it says I have the "latest" version.
Any thing you guys recommend? The Bluray SATA Drive worked fine on my old motherboard.
    Thanks.

The SSDs and three other drives? So you are trying to populate all ports? If so try removing one of the other drives and retry.
Yes. I got too many drives laying around xD. Edit: 1 x SSD Crucial C300 64 GB for OS. 1 X SSD Kingston 240 GB for games. 2 x WD 1 TB Drives for storage. 1 x WD Raptor Drive for other programs.
About your request, I did this earlier on today when I was trying to find out what was causing the problem. It did not help the issue when I unplugged one of the other SATA Drives. Still would not start while the bluray player was connected.

  • [Z77A-GD65] latest bios with ME?

    Hi
I was just looking at updating my bios, a82 which was provided to me from a tech support ticket didn't update the ME firmware, so was looking at bringing both the bios and ME up to date.
The bios thread for this board mentions a83 is the latest beta bios but doesn't mention that it includes the ME update. Also is the a83 bios more up to date than the a80 official release, I'm guessing so but just like to check?
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163874.0

I'm having some difficulty in getting this flash (A80 official) to commit.
I've tried a couple of times using the forum flasher tool (version 1.25g) which doesn't give any feedback of any errors. However, after resetting the CMOS and rebooting it only shows the bios version to have changed to 10.8 and the build date 12/17/2012 but the ME firmware version has remained unchanged.
Reading the forum flasher tool instructions it mentions that boot sector protection could be the cause of this but I don't see an option for that in the bios.  Is the 'Execute Disable Bit' in the CPU features section the same thing?
Also, the forum flasher tool upon completion gives the option to reboot but I understood that the CMOS was to be reset so should the user answer no to rebooting and then power off system and then reset CMOS or should this be done after an initial reboot?
An option called 'PCH-FW' also crept into the bios at some stage that seems to relate to the ME firmware recovery, should this be set to disabled?

  • Z77A-G43 no SpeedStep with manually set multiplier

I have bought Z77A-G43 mainboard with i5 3570k. When I put multiplier to Auto then in idle the multiplier goes to 16 but when I put any value (non-Auto, like 34) then it stays that way all the time also in Idle.
Other case is that mainboard have offsets but Vcore is not going down in idle if you do not have enable at once C1E and EIST. Should it work only with EIST option ?
I have Windows 8 Enterprise trial.
I tried many things but it still does not work without having Auto there (I do not want to have auto).
Please inform me how to turn on SpeedStep on this mainboard without loosing the ability to change multiplier.

  • Overclocking the i7 3770K on Z77A-GD65 MB. HELP ME MY NEW FRIENDS!!!

Hi everybody! I really truly hope that someone can help me. I have tried to look EVERYWHERE with no good results... :(
I have a new Z77A-GD65 motherboard and an Intel 3770K processor running on it and I am trying to OVERCLOCK my system properly. You might think that who the hell is this bozo if he cannot overclock with the manuals and all..
Anyway, I really never have gone deeper into overclocking and I would sooooo much like to have a PRESET file (BIOS settings) which could give me about 4.5-4.8GHz frequency and then my memory is a whole another issue. I am able to run it at 1,6GHz anyway but I'd like to try more.
The thing is that I don't even know whether I should have that Genie II button enabled on the motherboard or not! I mean, can I overclock my MB even further if I have Genie button enabled? And then should I enable Genie II via the Control Center from within Windows 7 x64 too?? Or should I have that Genie button disabled from the MB and do everything "manually"? Frankly I know nothing and I am absolutely frustrated.
I know I would have to set some voltages and factors at various points but I find it too complicated. ASUS had a software that you could choose "turbo profile auto overclock" and that software just adjusted voltages and frequencies automatically, rebooting every once in a while until the system came unstable and it applied the latest stable settings. MSI should have that kind of an over-clocking software too!
So could you please reply for me stupid one and tell me that how should I overclock my system. Meaning all the possible settings that you could imagine. I have tried Googling of all the weird C1E's and C-states and HPET's and everything but it's just a mess. I just would like to get as much power out of my PC as possible. Period. I really would appreciate all kind of help.
And yeah, one more thing;;; when I have this MSI Control Center installed in OS then will it kind of "override" the BIOS settings done when booting up? I'm asking a lot of stupid questions but I have struggled with my new PC for four straight days and nights and my brains are starting to melt....
    PLEASE::::
    - give me the multipliers
    - voltages
    - other settings (like power settings)
    - DRAM timing mode and frequencies
    - EIST on/off?
    - Turbo mode on/off?
    - Enhanced turbo??
    - ANYthing you can ever think of.
I'll humbly wait for a reply. Thanks for reading.

There are a number of OC threads here to give some basics. First off, learn what the limits are for voltages, etc. Intel datasheets & design guides are a great source. I will give you two voltage limits, 1 - DRAM V. = don't exceed 1.65v's, 2 - CPU V. = for an everyday OC, don't exceed 1.400v's. Get yourself a digital multimeter. There are several OC methods, so pick the one right for your needs.

It's a good start  thanks to Froggygremlin.
Btw if I may to add tips : try to overclock processor first with memory stay on default speed if we feels it is stable enough and want some more then go with the memory

  • Z77a-gd65 sound interference using uefi

    Good Morning all,
I have today installed windows 8 on my z77a-gd65 board using windows 8 fast boot uefi features in the bios. Everything is great apart from one thing - I have terrible interference on my speakers plugged in to the green port on the back of the motherboard.
I have reinstalled windows 8 without using windows 8 fast boot uefi and the problem dissapears.
I have tried to use spread spectrum and this does not help.
This sound interference is when using the mouse also and when scrolling.
    Setup -
    z77a-gd65 bios 10.8
    intel celeron g540
    onboard graphics
    samsung ssd 840 120gb
    8gb ddr3

Did you have this issue with a previous windows installation?
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers while in safe mode then re-installing the most recent from here:

  • Z77a-gd65 i7-3770k will not drop multiplier when idle windows 8

New to the forums here!  my setup is a z77a-gd65 i7-3770k with windows 8, and recently i've had a weird issue where no matter what my cpu stays at a constant x39 multiplier according to CPU-Z (version 1.63.0.x64).  i've tried just setting all BIOS settings to default to no avail.  Then I tried a simple turbo clocking method where I set all 4 core limits to 40 just to test, kept c1e and cstate options enabled, disabled speedstep, enabled enhanced turbo, and used xmp profile for memory, all other things default, and it's still stuck at x39 according to cpuz.  Is there anything else I should check?
I basically want a simple oc for now where it idles at x16 and goes up to xwhatever when the cpu is being used.  i just find it weird that after messing with some settings the multiplier never changes.
    Thanks for your help!

Just set those to default then set it to balanced. If it throttles you know it is the settings.
Otherwise, you might want to try updating to the most recent bios. >>Beta BIOSes<<
I'll give that a shot after work and report back

  • Z77A-GD65 Problems with Ethernet (Intel 82579V) Code 10 and 55 error

it is just a day with disaster. I bought Z77A-GD65 yesterday, and now it almost driver me crazy , i have two most famous problem of the board ,the CODE10 and ERROR 55!!!
after i bought this board to home ,i spend few hour to figure out the reason why the system can not be booted.
the DIMM SLOT 3&4 of my board is malfunction,no matter what combination i use (1&3,2&3, 3&4...etc),but it works for 1 and 2(i have 4 ram sticks, all of them is fine)
i do upgrade to BIOS 10.5(thx god ,i have two computer ,otherwise i cant even do it because of following issue)
after i solve the problem by only plug in 2 ram (DIMM1&2), succeed to boot up, a new problem occurred to me ,the CODE10!
latest driver , clean system install ,cmos cleaned, does not help.
i have read this thread for code10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158591.msg1167303#msg1167303
    and  for error55
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.0
it seems the best way to solve it is RMA.
I notice that there is an Authorized Motherboard Repair Center (East Coast):
    361 Alden Road
    Markham, Ontario, L3R 3L
i live in Toronto, can i just go there and give the board to them  to fix it or i can only mail it?
If i need to mail it ,what should i do?

Code 10 means the device cannot start. You have the right driver for the Intel 82579V is shorted by either a motherboard screw or a raiser under it. The ethernet adapter has lights which light up id driver is installed (even though code 10 is in effect).
Solution: Remove 1 or 2 motherboard screws and turn the pc on. Repeat until you find out which screw caused the issue. For me it was the screw closest to the ethernet controller.
The wa i fixed it was I was used a plastic washer and I was still able to have the motherboard screw in and at the same time not get code 10 anymore and my Intel 82579V worked fine since.

  • Setting up Intel RST on z77a-gd65

    Hi All
Are there any detailed step by step guides to setup Intel RST on a MSI Z77a-gd65 ?
I went into the BIOS and set the SATA Mode to RAID MODE. I installed Windows 7 using the latest RAID drivers from MSI. I loaded all the drivers with no problems.
When I try run the RST installer file it comes up with a message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
I also have edited the registry changing the value of the "Iastorv" START section.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I be changing something in the RAID controller configurator (CTRL I) ?
