Z77A-GD65 build won't post, I've tried everything I can think of...

Hello all,
Here are the parts:
MSI Z77A-GD65 mobo
Intel i5-3570K LGA 1155
MSI N560GTX-TiHawk graphics card
Samsung 30nm DDR3 RAM 2x 4gb
Corsair H100 cooling
Samsung 830SSD
Silverstone ST1000 1000watt power supply (this and my HDD are the only components from my old build and the HDD isn't attached)
I plug everything in, check and recheck, and all the fans and lights turn on for maybe a second and shut off with no beeps. I've RMA'd the board and processor to no avail. I've been breadboarding the build since the first time it failed to start. I checked the power supply with the paper clip test and on my old build to see if it was the problem and it was not as far as I can tell. It still functions as it should with the old build.
I followed multiple instructions to trouble shoot this problem and haven't gotten anywhere. I've tried with just the CPU, H100 and a stick of RAM and still get the same issue. I've tried both sticks separately in each socket and had the same issue, as well as a completely different set of sticks. I've switch the CPU cooler from the H100 to the stock one with no results. Reseated everything. Reset the CMOS. This build has never posted so nothing is overclocked and nothing has had any firmware updates. I've tried everything I can think of to get this problem fixed and I can't find the solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I should probably note that my old build is pretty old so most of the new parts aren't compatible with it so I can't update firmware and such on my own if those are possible issues.
Thanks.
PS. Posting from my IPad so I apologize for any typos.

Are you saying that this is a new board and processor after having the same problems on the previous parts ?
I bought all the parts for this build, had the issue and though it was mobo caused so I sent that back. Then I had the same issue with the replacement so i sent the processor back. Same issue with the replace ment processor.

Just to ask a probably silly question, but does that old psu have the proper connectors? Are the 4 pin connectors near the cpu filled? Is the backplate on backwards and shorting something?
Yes, it has all the right ports and connections. The backplate is correct as far as I can tell.
After talking with MSI and a local computer shop my current best guess is that I got a board with an old version of the bios that isn't compatible with the processor I have. That means to bios will need to be flash updated, something I have no idea how to do. My local computer shop said they could do it for 65$ but with no garuntees if something goes wrong. So, I'm going to send it to MSI and have them do it.
Thanks for the ideas guys, if you can think of anything else let me know.

Hi, when you say you have tried everything... I presume you have gone into Settings > Store and logged out and back in with your account details?
You could try purchasing an app via iTunes to see if its an issue with the device or the account you're using.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help! Z77A-GD65 mobo won't post - Debug LED says dE - no beeps

I'm not sure where to start. I came home to find my computer off. Turning it back on results in all the lights and fans coming back on. No post   and no beeps. Screens are just blank.
The 8 blue CPU phase LED lights above the CPU are all on.  Nothing unusual there.
The Debug LED lights show "dE" which isn't documented at all in the manual. Does anyone know what this error code means?

Right, excuse the babbling but I want to make sure I have all

    but I shall try.
I am currently running XP on an Advent laptop which, for some
reason or other, has decided that it doesn't want to run flash
(Java etc is also a problem). I have tried the Internet Options
settings (ie putting Java and Active X on enable or prompt etc) and
all that seemed to do was every time I go onto YouTube type
websites, it would download various things OVER and OVER again. I
also can't see any flash on things like MSN or other junk that
teenagers tend to download (Zwinkies or cursor sites etc) I managed
to get over this by downloading Firefox, which has sorted my
website problem, but I am now in a predicament. I STILL can't see
and winks and stuff on MSN and I have just had some .SWF files sent
me to check but, as they aren't on the internet, I cannot use
Firefox to see them. I would also like to view them when I am on
the move, with NO internet connection.
I have tried downloading various stand-alone Flash players
but the same problem still occurs.

I have tried everything I can think of, even
completely uninstalling it as per instructions on this site, and
reinstalling, but nothing seems to work. Is there a setting I need

  • IPhone won't show up or sync in itunes and I've tried everything I can think of

My iPhone shows up on My Computer when I plug it in to a USB plug but doesn't show up in itunes.  Also, when I use the Personal Hotspot it doesn't work through USB, like it did recently, and only works when I use it through wi fi. I've tried restarting the computer and phone, I've also tried deleting all the Apple programs and reinstalling them, I've tried multiple USB cords, I made sure the AMDS is installed and I also tried to restart it, and I also checked the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and it was functioning properly.  As far I can tell there should be no third party programs that should be effecting it either.  I'm going to try restoring the computer to a previous restore point but I would appreciate any other ideas and I'm fairly certain it is something to do with the computer and not the phone.  Thanks.

Did you also check the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (number 4 at the bottom here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538)?

  • New Iphone just WON'T sync - I've tried everything!! Please help

I bought a new Iphone yesterday and for some reason the lady synced it at the store (I had no idea what she was doing at that point - she told me she was 'unbricking it'). Anyway when I came home my own itunes wasn't recognising the Iphone (despite repeated attempts). So after reading up on the iphone a little bit i resetted it by deleting all data and settings. After this, every time i try to turn on my Iphone it just displays the usb and apple symbol icons, and everytime I connect it, itunes won't recognise it. Even though vista makes the "connection" sound the Iphone just isn't recognised. PLEASE HELP!! I have tried everything! Restarting comp + iphone, reinstalling itunes, downloading itunes 9, reinstalling the usb port, borrowing my brother's connection cable to make sure mine wasnt faulty. Device manager just won't recognise the iphone.
Please help!! I bought it from a store far away so the chances of visiting it again soon are fairly slim.

  • My iPad won't connect to wifi, tried everything!

It worked fine for about a week, then I left the house and when I returned it just will not reconnect. I've tried everything including resetting the network settings numerous times, turning my actual modem on and off but nothing works, help? I've also checked, it's not just my wifi that's broken as my mum also has an iPhone and an iPad, it's just mine that won't work.
    Any suggestions?!

    Hi Moniica,
Does your Wifi network show on your phone, but when you select it, it just doesn't connect?
If that is the case, (I know this sounds lame but), stand very close to the router and then select it.
I had the same issue, and when I went over and stood next to my router and selected it, it finally connected. Once it connected, it was fine (I am not permanently sitting next to my router in order to read my mail....)
It's worth a shot! It worked for me....
    Cheers,

  • New Build, Won't POST, Debug code stays at 00

I just got done building a new MPOWER MAX with an I5-4670K.  The build is a new power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM.  Video card I was using was in an old system and worked fine.  24 pin power, and the 2x 8 pin power supplies are all hooked up.
I have torn the PC back apart to where it's now just Motherboard, and CPU.  No RAM, no Video card, no HDD's, no DVD drive.  The system will not POST, and the Debug code never changes from 00.  I have even pulled off all the front panel Power/LED/Speaker connectors.
I have also tried switching the BIOS toggle switch, and cleared BIOS from the back panel.  I don't know where to go with this since it won't even give me a code of any kind.

  • Help - new pc build won't POST!

    Hi
I've built a new pc for my wife. I spec'd it a little lower than my own due to cost considerations, also I wanted some compatibility of parts.
I've powered-up, but no BIOS POST runs. The fans power up, I can see the CD drive flashing for a few moments, the D bracket shows BIOS sign on lights from the moment I press the power-on switch. There's no light on the keyboard & the monitor is in power save. I have swapped out the graphics card as a test.
    Can anyone help please?
System (my own system is in the sig):
    MSI 865PE Neo2-P BIOS v? | Pentium 4 3.0gHz/800 HT | standard CPU cooler | Kingston PC3200 1GB dual ch (KVR400X64C3AK2/1G) | MSI FX5200 T128 | Samsung 120GB SATA | TDK 24x10x40 CDRW | Enermax Noisetaker EG425AX-VE 420W +3.3v=32a, +5v=36a, +12v=15a/14a | CoolerMaster Praetorian - Silver

    1. I tried rebooting with nothing connected other than memory, cpu & graphics - same result.
    2. Removed memory, then tried memory in the other slots - no effect.
    3. Cleared CMOS - no effect.

When experiencing problems, never exclude any component as being faulty. DOAs do occur.
You probably need to remove your MB from the case and place it on a non conducting surface, i.e. piece of wood or unprinted carton/cardboard.
Then test with only one RAM module and one HDD. bare minimum.

  • MB 875P won't boot (no POST), I've tried everything

    Hello.
I just decided to post here as my last resort before throwing my motherboard for recicle.
I was a happy owner of this MSI motherboard MS-6758 875P Neo for five years.
Specs has changed along the years, but in the last months it was:
    MB: MSI MS-6758 875P Neo
    CPU: Intel Prescott 3.4 GHz
    RAM: 2x A-Data 512 MB at 533MHz
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 128 MB (AGP)
    PSU: 550W
    UPS: Powerware 5115
    Amongst other peripherals.
One day, while I was just doing some web browsing, operating system crashed, nothing would move the last screen. I pressed reboot and, after that, it didn't boot again (almost, read ahead).
    What happens:
Nothing. Blank screen. No beep. D-bracket lights always green (all of them). Disks and coolers start spinning.
What have I tried so far:
    1. Reset bios - tried with the jumpers thing and also removing the battery. Result: nothing.
    2. Unplugged every other cards/peripherals except cpu, video card and ram.  Result: nothing.
    3. Different CPU (P4 2.4 GHz). Result: system started up! I thought I just found the problem! It's the CPU. But no. It just happened again, after something like 5min of running the OS. After that, even with the 2nd CPU, system didn't boot evermore.
    4. Different ram and psu. Result: nothing.
At this time I left the computer in it's corner, for about a month, I was out of time to keep testing it. Then I gave it a try again:
    5. Looked for damaged caps, but none were found.
    6. Redo the test no. 2, but out of the case. Result: blank screen, but it did POST. I heard some 4 or 5 fast beeps, and again, after that, the same problem. I couldn't make it to this situation again.
    7. Different video card (agp and pci) and another PSU. Result: nothing.
    8. Went to a friends house with the MB only, plugged psu, ram, cpu and video card from his working system. Result: nothing.
    Notes:
    1. For nothing I mean that happened just the same as described above.
    2. System was protected by an UPS for the last three months before this happened, so I think (in an unskillful way) that is very difficult that some component has been electrically damaged.
    3. I looked for MSI support in my country (Portugal), but the only info I found is a phone number. I think I could try first posting here.
    My questions:
    1. What else should I do? If there is some else...
    2. Do you think that it's reparable? If so, how much will it cost?
    3. Do you have any other advice? I'll appreciate that.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Regards

Henry and dromonk, thanks for your words.
I'd like to add some more notes:
    4. While in my last tests, I've noticed that the chipset fan is dying, it makes more noise than usual. I don't know if this is relevant.
    5. All the tests done out of the case were with the board lying on the floor, and an antistatic bag under the board.
    Quote
Did you use fresh thermal compound each time you removed cooler from CPU while swapping them?
I'll be honest, I didn't. I didn't either try my CPU with another motherboard, because the other that I have access doesn't support it. However, the other CPU I tried is full working. But read on, please.
    Quote
D-LED's allways green even through POST or do they change red/green while POST'ing?
The problem is, the system doesn't even get to POST. All four D-LED's are always green, since I press the Power Button, until I press the Power Button again. Looking at manual it says: "Operating System Booting". That, sir, is a lie.
    Quote
I would hate to think all of the CPU's are dead now from overheating.
I'm not quite sure of what did you mean. Even thought I didn't test my CPU (3.4 GHz) with other MB, I guarantee you the other CPU (2.4 GHz) I tested on my MB has no problem (it's working right now). Also, I may add that I always used my CPU with an adequate cooler (Zalman 7000B Cu). Oh, and I never overclocked it. It always ran within an appropriate range of temperatures.

i found one thing with msi boards stick a folded up piece of paper between mother board and case behind the the ide bracked alot of times its shorting out even thoght you pulled out of case  it was alast resort i found on web i tried b4 i chucked mine and sure enuff it worked
Thanks for that trick. Unfortunately, I think it is pretty useless in this situation, since I already tried running the system with the motherboard out of the case. But, nevertheless, I just did another try. And yes, I put a piece of folded paper behind the IDE connector on the board, right between the MB and the antistatic bag.
System specs for this last test:
    CPU: mine
    Video Card: mine
    RAM: 1x mine
PSU: 300W OEM (it was more in hand, but I'm sure it's working)
    UPS: mine
    Peripherals: D-Bracket
Case: out of it, above an antiestatic bag and with the paper thing
    Notes:
    1. mine means that it's the same as stated in the beggining of this topic.
    2. For this test, I did apply fresh thermal compound between the CPU and Zalman, after removing the old one (it was a bit dry, by the way).
    3. Before this test, MB was with no bios battery for something like 15min.
    What happened:
The same... no boot, no beep, no post, four green lights, and fans spinning.
So, is there any more suggestions?
Do you think it worths taking it to MSI repair? Any idea of how much they would charge?
Again, thank you very much for reading and replying me.

  • Tried everything I can find, iMac won't start up!

Yesterday, my iMac told me there were new updates to be installed, and some of them required the computer to restart. So I clicked ok to update and restart, everything went along normally until after the updates, when it tried to restart, it won't get past the white screen with the gray apple logo and the little spinning wheel underneath it. I have been searching these forums all day looking for answers and trying anything I've found that I think might help, and nothing's working.
The closest I've come is this: I put in the install disc (1), and tried to restart while holding option. This allowed me to click on the disc and start it up from that, and I went into disk utilities to try and repair the disk, as suggested in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8807992&#8807992, started by someone who seemed to be having a similar problem.
When I tried to "Repair Disk," it said "The Disc "Macintosh HD" could not be unmounted."
I tried "Verify Disk," and this is what it said in the little box (everything in bold was in red on my screen):
    Performing live verification
    Checking journaled HFS Plus Volume
    Checking extents overflow file
    *Invalid leaf record count*
(It should be 198 instead of 187)
    Checking catalog file
*Incorrect block count for file pcsd.pub*
(It should be 16 instead of 17)
    *Invalid sibling link*
    *Volume check failed*
*Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed*.
Then a box poppped up saying:
    First Aid Failed
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD" because the following error was encountered: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Also as suggested in that linked thread, I then tried to "use the Restore tab in Disk Utility to make a full copy of my internal drive volume to an external drive volume," but it told me "Restore Failure, Could not restore - read only file system." Does this mean my external is read-only? It is brand new and has never been used, just plugged in for the first time to do this. Do I need to do something to the external to make it work? Is there anything I can do short of erasing and re-installing everything?? I'm completely at a loss here, and I'm sorry this is so long but I wanted to make all information available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Would that have worked if I had tried it before the "archive and install"? Because that is what I tried next and it didn't work, and I'm just wondering if it didn't work BECAUSE I tried to do the Archive and Install first? Or if it just never would've worked because my hard drive's messed up?
I'm just wondering because after I got the last response, I called Apple Care to see if there was ANYthing else I could do before having to either erase everything or actually haul it down to the Apple store, and it's the Apple care guy who told me to try the Archive and Restore first. So I'm just a bit annoyed if this could've been avoided by simply doing a new install first, if it's the Archive and Install that ruined everything...
