Z77A-GD65 + MSI GTX 780Ti = No Boot!

Hello all,
I have a Z77A-GD65 Motherboard, and I've just got my new MSI GTX 780Ti last night.
However when I install the graphics card, the PC won't boot properly. - all I can see is a line ( _ ) at the top left of the screen, and "B2" on the bottom right.
The PC beeps about 3 times if I just leave it, and after the 3rd beep the screen refreshes and the line ( _ ) starts blinking.  but that's it.
No boot, no post, nothing.
I have an 850watt powersupply, and I have been running 2x 660s up till now, so i'm sure that it's not a power problem.
Also, I have tested the 780Ti in my friend's PC (G1.Sniper 3) and it works perfectly fine.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Thanks,

I'm using the same motherboard and just bought GTX780ti last week. I encountered the same issue when i plugged in my new GTX780 ti. I got the B2 error code.  So i decided to flash and update my  Bios version and IT WORKED !!
To the people having the same issue as i am.,please update your BIOS to the latest one. Make sure the PCI Gen 3 is enabled in the BIOS for full perfomance.
For the BIOS update i need the monitor, and with code 62, you dont get any signal..

3.) If we need to check if thier is a more recent version. We can check your Vbios in one of two ways.
A.) Upload a copy of your current vbios somewhere and give us a link. You can save a copy of your vbios using >>GPU-Z<<.
B.) You can also just use NVFLASH >>Download NVFLASH for windows<<
    Syntax:
    nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER]
This will copy all of the information we need into a txt file you will fine in the folder in which you placed nvflash.
4.) Be aware that gpu-z screenshots or what gpu-z reads out as bios version are NOT of any use for identifying the required vbios version. While it doesn't hurt to add those when S/N and an actual copy of the vbios are also supplied simply just adding screenshots or version readouts will not get you any further and us having to ask for the required informations.

  • SOLUTION for my problems with MSI Z77A-GD65 + MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC

Lately I had problems with my GTX 670 video card (MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC) under Windows 7 Pro x64.
I got a lot of "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" errors.
I had these errors once or twice a day, so I didn't really  bother looking for an answer, also I couldn't reproduce the error.
Most games just worked fine, but not always... so I tried if I could reproduce the error.
I tried to stress test with MSI Kombustor and voila no windows error... noo... but the core voltage went to 0 mV within a minute and everything (screen / windows / kombustor) stuttered and I had to restart the system.
The strange thing was that the voltage went to 0 mV, but the GPU load went from 96% - 60% and back to 96%... why and how is this possible??
Now I could reproduce my problem... yes!
First I thought it was a driver problem, because I updated it to the newest version (310.70), so I tried to re-install an older driver and also the original MSI driver... no luck.
Maybe it could be a mainboard driver or some settings in windows, so I installed Windows 8... no luck.
    Re-installed Windows 7 Pro x64 (basically because Windows 8 s*cks)... no luck.
I tried to put my video card in another system and there was no problem... so I thought my video card is not broken...
Maybe it's my my power supply... new power supply... no luck again... grrrr...
My solution was downgrading / flashing my mainboard (MSI Z77A-GD65) bios back to 1.5 instead of 1.7, because yes... live update had updated my bios... that was the problem.
I wanted to post this, because I couldn't really find the answer for my problem and maybe I can help a few people with the same configuration and problems.
Live well and... well you get the idea

Don't use TF II/TF III parts as they won't fit. Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo II or Accelero Mono PLUS are good value for money aftermarket solutions.
Thank you for the information and advice.  As I was looking into those two, I noticed that Accelero's website claimed the Accelero Xtreme III would also fit, and NewEgg had it on sale, so that is what I wound up purchasing.  It works quite well and is MUCH quieter than the Twin Frozr IV, even before the grinding noise started.
For anyone else considering this, please be aware that the Xtreme III is monstrously huge (it adds several inches to the length of the MSI N670 PE).  Make sure you have plenty of room in your case for it.

  • Z77A-GD65 + MSI Control Center (version 2.5.053) = FAN speed control issue

    OK,
I've got Z77A-GD65 board and I am using MSI Control Center (version 2.5.053). I have one fan connected to CPU fan header and another fan connected to System Fan1 header on the motherboard. The problem is that while trying to use Smart fan control in MSI Control Center (under Green Power tab) only CPU fan changes speed according to load and the one connected to System Fan1 always stays at the same "System Fan1 Min" set speed. In BIOS the system fan1 is set to auto as all other options are constant speed from 50% to 100%, both fans have 4 wires, so they can change speed. I want both fans to change speed according to CPU load. I know I can use Y (split) cable to connect both fans to the same CPU fan header but I would like to avoid this if possible.
Anybody experiencing the same thing? Issue with bios? Control center bug?

As long as the amps of the two fans doesn't exceed the limit for the CPU fan header, go ahead and use a splitter. Not positive, but believe the fan header amp limit is 1A?

  • [Z77A-GD65] How to edit UEFI boot entries?

Hi everyone, just received a Z77A-GD65 as a replacement for a failed Asus P67 board (glad to have got rid!). Working really great as a straight swap, except it hasn't recognised one of my EFI boot devices.
I can boot it from the EFI shell by typing the path of the .EFI file, but I cannot get it to show up as an option in the boot settings (the only UEFI boot entires are the EFI Shell and 'Windows Boot Manager').
I've tried using bcdedit to create another entry, but I can't seem to get it working. Please could someone give me a hand? Thanks in advance

      Exactly what is the device?

Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the included file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.
For the boot stick: Download HP USB FORMAT TOOL.zip and win98boot.zip. Install HP USB FORMAT TOOL. Unzip win98boot.zip. Start HP USB FORMAT TOOL with the usb stick connected to your pc. Now choose to create a dos boot stick and point to the Win98 directory for dos system files:
    nvflash:
Put all files in the nvflash directory on the usb boot stick.
After booting from the stick you also put the vbios renamed to gop.rom on type: nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 + Gigabyte GTX 670 OC

Hello everyone, I am new to forums and new to building PCs. I have more or less successfully installed everything and running the computer is fine, I am just a little concerned about a reoccurring message that I receive upon start-up, then it goes to the MSI logo and boots windows fine. It reads...
Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.93 AHCI Mode
    S.M.A.R.T. Supported
    Using PCIE Gen 2
    Can't find any device.
As far as I am aware, the BIOS is up to date, and so are the drivers, I have also enabled PCIE gen 3 with the BIOS. What else am I doing wrong/not doing? Also, the Corsair Vengeance Ram that I am using should be running at 1600MHz but it's clocked at 1333MHz, I guess I can live with that for now, but I don't want to bottleneck my GPU using PCIE Gen 2.

Quote from: xmad on 19-July-12, 03:09:42
    >>Posting Guide<<
1333 is the default speed at which that ram will run. Go into bio and enable xmp in the overclocking section and you will see your speed goto the xmp profile.
Did you plug your HDD/SSD into the as media ports? You should of plugged them into port 1 or 2. (the 6gb per sec intel controller)
(I read that performance is better)
What Cpu do you have? If not an IVY, there is no pci3 support.
What bios version do you have?
Did you set the pci3 option to "Auto"
Thank you for your responses, I have used the Sata 6Gb/s port 1, I am also using an IB i5 3570K. Under PCI Subsystem, PCIE Gen 3 is Enabled.  Initiate Graphics Adapter is set to PEG and I have used Live Update 5 to update the ClickBiosII to v10.0/20120208.
    I hope that helps.
Quote from: flobelix on 19-July-12, 04:22:16
Also keep in mind that GTX6xx cards will not benefit in any way from PCIE Gen 3. So if 2.0 or 3.0 is absolutely irrelevant, there won't be the slightest bottleneck.
Ok thank you, most of all right now, it's just annoying to see it come up on boot, if everything else is running as it should, then why why is it coming up? It just worried me at first, that's all. It also doesn't help that it makes my PC take longer to load.

  • MSI GTX 780ti Gaming 3G Coil Whine fix?

Maybe some of you also know how to fix coil whine noise. It's very annoying and loud enough in some games. Sometimes more present than in other games. Like coil whine all the time in Watch Dogs (even in menu) and in a benchmark test from 3d Mark. Somehow it doesn't happen in Windows or all games.
I read that i can glue things together?? I would like to know more. I don't want to RMA the card already and wait for another 5 weeks while the price will drop in the meantime.
The card is brand new since 2 days. I had some bad experience with retailers selling brand new cards that weren't new at all.  I think it is new, because i can smell the card when i turn on a game (temps are ok). Maybe the coil whine goes away in a few days? Anyway, i expected more from a 609,- Euro or 828 Dollar video card. Hopefully there is an easy fix. I do have to note that i am possibly a little more sensitive to the noise as an ex-musician. I use studio monitors for sound and a professional soundcard.

I updated my signature with my other hardware. I hope my Corsair RM750 is powerfull enough. It has 62.5 A on 12 V rail. I used a calculator a few times to know roughly how much my system would use in wattage, but that is always less. The Windows Index Experience Test did it also over here, but not as loud as in the other things.
I also had GPU-Z running and noticed new things compared to my previous RMA'd card (MSI r9 280x Gaming 3G).
At PerfCap Reason i got VRel, VOp.

  • New MSi Z77A - GD65 DIMM problem

I was wondering if anybody else has a similar experience with this.
    My build:
    i7 - 3770k 3.4 ghz
    MSi z77A - GD65
MSi 760 Geforce GTX 4GB VRAM
    Rosewill Xtreme RX750 - D - B
    3 x 4 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
So everything wrongs except for the DIMM.  The two DIMMs closest to the CPU causes the system to not POST.  The debug stays at 55 which indicates that there's no memory.  When I installed two sticks into the slots furthest away from the CPU, it boots up just fine.
I tried booting up with one stick in the DIMM furthest away from the CPU for each ram stick.  They all result in the system booting up just fine.  I tried using 4 x 2 gb RIPJAW ram sticks and again the system errors at 55.  The common denominator here is  that the two DIMM slots closest to the CPU are not working and causing everything to freak out.
This is my theory on what's going on.  I have no idea how to fix this other than returning the board for a new one.  Hopefully I can get some suggestions or advice on what to do from here.  Maybe my mobo isn't broken, and it's just me doing something wrong.  I certainly hope so because I'm a pretty lazy dude.  Bought this board because my other mobo didn't boot up.  Now this board isn't reading my memory.  What gives???  Any help is appreciated.

Enter bios and check if the intel ME firmware is properly installed. If not it will show N/A in the bios.
My PC with the regular Z77A-GD65 worked flawless for a year, then I had problems. My gcard died and I had massive bootproblems. I tried a lot to figure out the reasons. All I could come up with was a faulty board or incompatible memory, like you think you have. I switched from 4x4Gb to 2x8 Gb in slots 2 + 4, but it didn't help.
After I noticed Intel ME firmware wasn't installed, I tried that. I used the forum tool and most important: I used a bios version with Intel ME firmware included. Downloaded it from an attachment in these forums (so don't download bios versions from the official MSI website!). I flashed the bios and everything worked great again!
Try that first, before you start inspecting CPU pins or change to different memory. I installed BIOS version 10.8B3 (beta), but watch out, I think your gaming edition of the Z77A-GD65 has a different bios. Check the forums which (beta) version is the most reliable.

  • Z77a gd65 doesn't boot/power off

    Hello,
I have a problem with my z77a gd65. It doesn't boot anymore. Each time I need to clear CMOS. Also when I do a shutdown or restart it doesn't respond anymore. (all leds on motherboard are off except the first one of the CPU_PHASE leds). Shutdown or restart have the same effect when i try them in windows or bios, even the buttons on the board have the same results. Only the fans keep spinning. It doesn't power off anymore, I need to unplug the power cord.
It has worked for over 2 months, it just happened yesterday. I haven't installed or changed anything that day.
    I haven't overclocked the mainboard.
I tried the latest BIOS version, but this didn't solved the problem
I removed all other hardware (videocard, hdd, dvd,...) but still same problem
    Any suggestions
    thanks

  • Z77A-GD65 / Video issues

    Hey All
Got a real weird issue going on
Randomly when playing games my computer will shutdown and reboot. When it boots up the video card is blurry during Post and bios splash screen. Once windows attempts to load the computer reboots again.
Changing to the onboard video card works fine
If I swap the PCI-E to another slot it will work again but the issue will reoccur in a matter of time - can be days or minutes
Video Card runs in high load environments such as ARMA3 and Starcraft with issues. Previously had not experienced an issue.
    It's just really weird

could be overheating for sure so like dude said check the temps under load and see if its temp is very high?
also it could be RAM errors so try >>Memtest86<< and see if it throws errors or if the computer restarts while its active?
could also be PSU related as you have not listed what power supply you have as it may be having a power shutdown issue as the PSU is not capable of sustaining a stable power delivery?
