Z77A-GD65 occasional ethernet problem (code 10)

Hey folks,
got a strange problem here. My ethernet sometimes refuses to work. Usualy after the PC has been turned of for a  few minutes.
It acts like this.
Problem:
1. Turn PC on after a minute or so of not beeing powered
2.a. In Windows, no ethernet (code 10, cant start device)
2.b. If I skip Windows and go directly to the Bios, the NIC interface says its "disconnected"
3. soft reboot, reset or even powering it down and start aggain fixes the problem.
Conclusions / Checks done so far:
* checked for extra raisers severeal times now, got none and the behaviour doesnt seem to be a shortage in any way either.
* its not a windows problem either because the bios itself allready says the NIC is "disconnected" which it isnt.
* doesnt make a difference if OCed (using OC Genie) or not.
* RMAed my first board and got a new one, same problem.
* BIOS: activated WakeOnLAN to force NIC staying active, didnt help
* BIOS: disabed auto negotiation and set fixed  etehrnet speed value, didnt help
* BIOS: reflashed BIOS 10.7 (7751vA7.zip, release 2012-10-25), didnt help
I read here somewhere that some people had troubles with Nvidia cards leading to the same behaviour which migth be the same case for me.
yet i havent found a fix for this problem yet.
Current Hardware:
- Intel Core i5-3570K
- MSI Z77A-GD65 (S/N: 601-7751-020B1209048802)
- G.Skill DIMM 16 GB DDR3-2133 Quad-Kit
- Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5
- XFX 650W XXX Edition ATX  (powersupply)
help me please, this is awefully annoying especialy for such an expensive board.

I had some werid issues like this intermittantly with a specific nic driver.

I cant install the drivers for it because it says that the device is not found.
I checked the windows device manager and its not showing it up either, so is it broken or what?

do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed and try again
else put mainboard out of PC case over wooden table and retry.
what's your current bios version installed?

  • Z77A-GD65 ME Driver problems

Hello out there. I own a Z77A-GD65 and I am having trouble updating my ME drivers. Every time I launch Control
Center, it tells me to update my ME drivers. so I went to my motherboard's page and downloaded the current drivers.
the latest BIOS update installed ME drivers 8.1.20.1336. and on the MSI page the current version of ME drivers is ME
driver version 8.1.30.1349. After I run the ME Driver installer, my version remains at 8.1.20.1336 and I get the same
error from Control Center. My Version of Control Center is 2.5.063

    Try updating to the newest final UEFI/BIOS release;

  • Z77A - GD65 - tricky one problem with 1X and 16x mix.

I can tell you some feedback that I have done extensive testing on - ANY help would be greatly Appreaciated !
(if you have a digital wallet of particular happy to send Crypt cunnency ! for solution ! )
I have 6 7900 Series ATI for sCrypt mining  using CGminer  but all that aside i think this is a PCie problem?
on our MSI Z77a_GD65 - if a 1X and a 16X slot are connected the  16X slot get allocated GPU 0 in CGminer and by default sets to 500MHz Core and 150Mhz mem clock. i.e it does not function properly -
its like the plugging in of a card to the 1X slot is voltage down the 16X pcie slot - or taking Channel space from it?
This board has 6 usable slots - if 3 Cards are in 3 1X slots then all will # at around 550 500 K# without tweaking no problems , everything is normal .
likewise if 3 Cards are in 16X size slots - all cards Run  , 3 cards run  fine .
    BUT
if slots are mixed - even just 2 cards  i.e 1 Card on a 1X and 1 Card on a 16X  - then CGminer sets GPU 0 to the the card present in the 16X slot and sets it to 500mhz Core and 150Mhz memclock .
I've tested multiple combinations of 1X and 16X slots so as to exclude any particular slot  i.e 1 and say 5 and 3 and 2 .
Also updated Bios to 10.8 which states "better Pcie Compatibility"
Set PCIe Latency to 96 in Bios.
danced around room with wooden totum , sacraficed a rubber chicken.
Disabled Gen3 becasue it is not needed - Cyrpt mining does not need bandwith.
looking for the answer, maybe a voltage issue?
may result in jumper or Pin?
power is ample have 1500W Revo _ and this happens when running just 2 cards.
8 Gig Ram - Processor INTEL G1610 - should have enough PCI channels ?
Driver 13.5 - SDK 2.6 - not a Driver problem tried nearly all drivers.
    PCIe Problem !? voltage issue?
** also any card run singally by itself in any single 1X or 16X slot is fine and performs normally.
I purcahsed the Motherboard New and it still has Warranty.  (other than that love the booard, love the onboard IO button)

The Intel X79 Express platform supports 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes via the CPU for graphics. The Intel X79 Express PCH itself supports eight lanes of PCIe 2.0 connectivity for other external devices.
Of that would also require purchase of Sandy-E CPU along with the BB-XP ll
Compare that with the much less 16 lanes for Sandy & Ivy platforms.
It's not an issue of how many cards you use, it's how many lanes each card uses. If you use 3 cards that use up all lanes and have empty slots they are useless anyway because you have already used up all available lanes.

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 loop boot problem

Hello, 20 days ago I bought this mobo, with Intel Core I-7-2600K (Sandy Bridge), 16 Gb of RAM Corsair Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9).
It worked fine for 20 days, then today, when   I turned on the pc It didn't boot, and it goes in a loop sequence, the cpu fan starts for 3 seconds and then stops, and then continue like this forever until I press the button for sveral second tu turn everything off.
    I tryed:
    3 different psu's
different type of ram in every slot (single and/or together)
Unlinked all from the mobo and put it out of the case with only psu attached.
    CMOS cleared
    Always same problem.
Now I RMA it, soon I'll receive a new one but I saw on the web that most users of this mobo had the boot loop problem, so I was hoping if it was mine that was faulty or is there a known Problem?
I work with this pc and I don't want to receive another one with the same problem.....
    Many thanks to all.
    Many thanks.

Funny thing. That very same thing happened to me on a Gigabyte P67 board a while ago. I ended up having to return the board, luckily I had purchased it at a Microcenter so that was easy to do and I went with the MSI I have now.
At the time I was not able to resolve it, but the symptoms were exactly the same. Doesn't mean you have the same problem or cause, but I had exactly that.
I would advise a number of things that all revolve around eliminating potential trouble spots entirely:
    - If you have 4 sticks of 4GB RAM, remove two of them (refer to your manual to know in which order to remove them; leave just one bank (2 sticks) populated.
If that doesn't help, swap the remaining 8GB with the 8GB you removed. That would diagnose a crude memory failure in one of the sticks.
    - Remove any hardware you can, including any extra sound/network card and your video card, and see if the power-on pattern changes.
    - Disconnect all external devices from USB, eSATA, even disconnect your regular SATA drives just to see if the pattern changes at all.
    - If you observe changes doing any of those things, you can hone in on the offending component.
    - If you are using an aftermarket heatsink that uses screws, make sure the heatsink is not wobbling because it came lose a little.
This is assuming you built it yourself and are familiar with handling the components and what precautions to take!

  • Re: Msi z77a-gd65 usb 3.0 Problem

I also have a problem with the msi usb 3 driver or chipset; of course the driver & chipset are Intel's; however my mb is a z77a-gd65.
My problem with win7 is that autoplay kept interrupting copying files onto the usb3 drive sot that the drive is not accessible to the copy software; I updated the driver from Intel's site which was 1.05 instead of the 1.04 at msi & still the same problem.  The problem could be win7 tho.
I still had my SIIg usb3 board for pcie & so finally reinstalled the siig card; the copying of files is no longer interrupted with autoplay that results lots of errors of "drive not accessible".  The SIIg uses the nec (renesas) drivers.  It may be that Intel need to fix their usb3 drivers to work.  I still feel that part of the problem is m$ as win7 ignores the autoplay settings which was probably done when I was stupid enough to install the win8 release preview.

Split this off for you, it sounds like the usb3 keeps connecting/ disconnecting, we need some more info on your components.
    >>Posting Guide<<
I would start by eliminating the software by reinstalling the os and fresh drivers.
    Edit:
Is this a Seagate drive by chance?
Not a Seagate, it is a 2 gig Hitachi Turo.  The drive works well when I listen to my CDs on the drive; the problem is that I use it as "backup" for the 3 gig nas drive (wd mybooklive).  The nas is 3 gig only because the 2 gig was sent back to wd & was sent the 3 gig on the method where I was sent the replacement before I send the non-functioning drive.
My problem is somewhat resolved with my SIIg usb3 card; BUT Intel need to be informed about their problem but Intel may not do anything just like microsoft.  I did the uninstall of the msi usb3 driver, was successful using usb2 to copy the files; installed the "latest" Intel usb3 driver, ver 1.05 & still had problem.  Then decided to try the SIIg usb3 card which worked.

  • Z77A-GD65 Problems with Ethernet (Intel 82579V) Code 10 and 55 error

it is just a day with disaster. I bought Z77A-GD65 yesterday, and now it almost driver me crazy , i have two most famous problem of the board ,the CODE10 and ERROR 55!!!
after i bought this board to home ,i spend few hour to figure out the reason why the system can not be booted.
the DIMM SLOT 3&4 of my board is malfunction,no matter what combination i use (1&3,2&3, 3&4...etc),but it works for 1 and 2(i have 4 ram sticks, all of them is fine)
i do upgrade to BIOS 10.5(thx god ,i have two computer ,otherwise i cant even do it because of following issue)
after i solve the problem by only plug in 2 ram (DIMM1&2), succeed to boot up, a new problem occurred to me ,the CODE10!
latest driver , clean system install ,cmos cleaned, does not help.
i have read this thread for code10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158591.msg1167303#msg1167303
    and  for error55
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.0
it seems the best way to solve it is RMA.
I notice that there is an Authorized Motherboard Repair Center (East Coast):
    361 Alden Road
    Markham, Ontario, L3R 3L
i live in Toronto, can i just go there and give the board to them  to fix it or i can only mail it?
If i need to mail it ,what should i do?

Code 10 means the device cannot start. You have the right driver for the Intel 82579V is shorted by either a motherboard screw or a raiser under it. The ethernet adapter has lights which light up id driver is installed (even though code 10 is in effect).
Solution: Remove 1 or 2 motherboard screws and turn the pc on. Repeat until you find out which screw caused the issue. For me it was the screw closest to the ethernet controller.
The wa i fixed it was I was used a plastic washer and I was still able to have the motherboard screw in and at the same time not get code 10 anymore and my Intel 82579V worked fine since.

  • Z77A-GD65 Ethernet Problems "Network Cable Disconnected"

I've been running a Z77A-GD65 and have been having network problems with the onboard ethernet. Every time I go to play a game online I'll play for about 10-15 minutes and I'll be disconnected. When I'm back on the desktop, my ethernet icon on the taskbar will show "network cable disconnected" even though everything is plugged in fine. Fiddling with the cable or changing the cable does nothing. Reboot the machine and it's working fine until again I play a game for 10 or 15 minutes and the same thing happens.
First, the card was showing the wrong MAC address as specified in the MSI FAQ for this mobo. Performed the fix but the problem is persisting. Tried the MSI driver and the newer Intel one. One time I got a "Code 10" error as posted in another thread and again, wouldn't correct itself until I rebooted.
This only happens when I'm playing games. Web surfing or downloads work fine and my connection won't be disconnected until about 10-15 minutes into playing an online game.
I put in another discrete Intel network card and that worked fine. No problems. Same with plugging in a USB wifi adapter (my current temporary solution). Therefore, I'm thinking it's an issue with the onboard ethernet or driver. Anyone else with this problem or how to resolve it? Using the latest v10.5 MSI BIOS.

Removing the Asus Xonar did not help.
Re-flashed the BIOS as well using a DOS boot USB key instead of M-Flash. Readjusted all setting to default. Enabled/disabled "Network Stack" in the BIOS (what is this supposed to do anyhow? It's undocumented).
Wiped all drivers for this network adapter and re-installed the current ones from MSI's website. No change.
Noticed that the adapter would correctly run at gigabit full-duplex when set to auto-negitiate. However, it would drop down to 10mbps before it finally showed "cable disconnected". Plugging and unplugging the cable did nothing until I reboot, then it would work again... until I ran a game online and it would disconnect after 10-15 minutes of play. Ran the Intel cable test and it was fine (and the cable and internet has been fine when used in conjunction with another discrete PCI-e Intel card).
Re-crimped the ends to be sure. Tested again and the cable connection is good. Yes I know how to crimp ethernet so please don't suggest anything being wrong with the cable.
I've pretty well nailed down that it is an issue with the onboard ethernet. I've read on Intel forums about problems with this chip on Asus boards. Hopefully an MSI employee can point me in a direction that could help, or at least have the problem resolved in a future BIOS update.

  • Z77A-GD65 ram and DR. mos problem after 2 years without any HW change or OC!

Hi guys, i have three Z77A-GD65 from 2 years with the same hardware config, no overclock or others OC settings ....simply default bios settings;  in this last 2 months, not at the same time, all of my 3 mainboards  have the same identical problem.
One day, from nowhere, without any reason, i start my pc and mobo don't start, hangs with code 55 ( memory error) and Dr mos alarm led goes on, i try to reset bios .. nothing.
I Switch multibios to "B" bios and works perfectly .. i've tested all of RAM modules and result works perfectly !! .... all of three mainboards have the same identical problem!!
Now i use all my 3 PCs with "B" bios and works perfectly, because "A" bios hangs always with code 55 and with Dr. mos alarm led on, i try to update and downgrade "A" bios ... nothing to do ... "A" bios don't work anymore.
    Any idea?

Quote from: Nichrome on 19-July-14, 02:32:51
    Don't have to be rude
If same problem is on 3 motherboards then is something wrong with RAM or BIOS not the motherboard
    >>Posting Guide<< Reminding again if you want to receive any help.
Nichrome, you misunderstood! ... I just responded to your affirmation .. that's all, it was not my intention to was "rude" as you wrote! OK?
Ram  modules have been tested on other Asus mainboard  .. .. no read/write errors and no hangs problems ... so all Ram modules are fine
About bios ..... maybe primary bios is physically damaged.... i try to reflash bios also with old version .. no way .. maybe primary bios damage in all 3 mainboards  !! very strange!!! ... you know if there's a know manufacturing defect on this MB bios maybe on a particular MB serial part number? because i bought all 3 mainboards at same time about 2 years ago.
Quote from: Sea Dog on 19-July-14, 02:40:52
Obviously, there is 'something' that has caused BIOS corruption in all 3 mainboards A chips. Whatever that 'something' is, it may happen to the backup B chips as well. Recommend to concentrate on finding this 'something', what the common denominator is, and restoring BIOS chips A before the mainboards may become expensive paperweights. A shop with an SPI flash programmer device can fix the broken BIOS chips if not comfortable with doing the recovery procedure yourself.
Hi, yes i agree,  In fact, my fear is to have, in a while, these mainboard totally unusable!  ..... i think that primary bios is physically damaged or i hope, software damaged, I would try to recover it,  if it's only a software problem (i hope so) ... do you know a procedure to completely erase cleanly that reflash the primary bios? i try to use dos MSI flash utility with "/p /b /n" options .. no success to restore A bios ... same story ... error 55 and DR-mos alarm led on.

  • Z77A-GD65 throwing B2 code

So I've got this Z77A-GD65 board I've had a bit over a year now, today I obtained my new 760 GTX and attempted to place it in and upon booting back up the system it started throwing a B2 code both on-screen (the GPU by all visual intents works) and on the mobo status display.
Now I searched around and found a few suggestions, the main one of which I attempted was to 'reset' the CMOS between changing cards (something about some form of hardware memory, seemed odd to me but I figured what the hell).  Unfortunately this didn't really resolve anything and actually bugged my primary UEFI out to where it would boot up, then cycle booting a few times, so I switched it to the secondary (which I had actually never used previous).
So that one still did the same thing, threw the B2 code as soon as it booted, on the mobo and on screen, just sat there and threw beeps every 30 seconds or so.  So took the card out and put back in my 560Ti and voila, here I am, the 560Ti is working fine still and the system booted up (under the secondary anyways).
So is there any thing that anyone can think of that might cause the 760 GTX to not work right?  I really don't think it's the card itself since it was at the very least putting actual video to the screen, and while the B2 code seems to cover quite a few things since it's working with the 560Ti back in I don't think it's any of the other potential problems.
Only major differences I can think between the two other than the 2GB vs 4GB (560Ti vs 760 GTX) is that the 760 is PCIe 3.0 while the 560Ti was PCIe 2.0, but the mobo is supposed to be PCIe 3.0.
    Other general system info;
    CPU: i5 2500K
    RAM: 32 Gigs of Corsair XMS3 1600
OS: Windows 7 (not sure this is really relevant, at all, in any which way since it's all pre-boot but just in case)
Any other info needed just ask away.

    Yes, sorry I mis-read.
Good thing the flash didn't succeed.
AA0 flash seemed to work but it apparently changed enough some how that my windows install is now defunct on my SSD, lol.  It's complaining about improper paths and stuff.
Any idea to this or am I just gonna have to reinstall windows on it?  I already tried re-ordering the boot list (since the new BIOS had some sort of "UEFI Hard Drive, etc" stuff up front of everything.
Edit: It's actually apparently not booting -anything-, I can't even get it to boot into the USB drive now...
The update said it was successful and by all intents i can get into the BIOS and crap, but I have no idea what to do now.
Edit Edit: Okay so did another CMOS reset, seems more or less functional to 'boot' but the SSD is still dead in the water.  Now it's saying "Please reboot and select a proper boot device" or something along those lines, rather than the "Windows path etc etc".  I've hooked the SSD into my hotswap dock and like it seems structurally intact, the files are fine but maybe something in the BIOS/UEFI upgrade goofed up it's MBT?

at the first start (after installing the hardware) I got a black screen with the little bar at the top left flashing in the bottom right and "B2" then a black screen with the same small bar but not flashing. On my motherboard I have a set of code that runs and stops at B2. No BIOS.J 'tried everything:
    - Move the graphics card
    - Exchange up memories, play with the colors of slots, try with only 2 bar, try with 3 instead of 4 memories
    - Disconnect the SSD and the HDD, change the connections at the plug SATA, try with HDD only
    - Clear CMOS
    - Start without devices connected (only with keyboard, mouse and screen)
    - Check all my connections and CPU + Noctua
NOTHING .......................... I do not understand

Reading A0, it is at the point of OS loading. A0 is not an error.

  • Z87-gd65 ethernet problem

Hi I recently bought the z87-gd65 motherboard and just installed it into my computer. Everything is working fine, except the 'killer e2200' ethernet port.
    I am running windows vista 32-bit SP2.
I tried installing the drivers off of the CD that came with the mobo, no luck (Via CD > Network > Killer > KillerSetup_32bit.exe
"Your hardware is not supported on this Windows version. The installer can not continue."
Also, in Device Manager, it shows Ethernet Controller under 'Other Devices' with a Yellow triangle and a ! in it.
(There is no tab for Network)
When I first boot up Windows, I get a popup saying Windows needs the drivers for the Ethernet Controller, so I browsed the CD and no file worked.
Am I going to have to upgrade to Windows 7 or something?

First, try the network driver here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174229.0
I installed this via Device Manage > Update Driver > Browse Computer For Folder > Killer E220x/Win 7(I'm assuming it's backwards compatible with Vista 32bit)
It says it's installed, but it gave me Error Code 39.
Via Properties > Check For Solution... I received this

  • Z77a-GD65 Debug Code 49 (Reboot cycle)

Saw a post about guidelines for posting threads here, lost it though. Sorry.
    Mainboard: MSI Z77a-GD65 Rev2.1
    BIOS Version: 10.5
    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4GHz
    Memory: 4x4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 (PC-12600), 1.65v
    Graphics: MSI 670GTX
    Storage: OCZ Agility3 240GB SSD, Seagate 2TB 7200RPM
    PSU: Corsair HX750 (750W)
So the machine runs fine on default settings. I really can't complain about the performance, but there's a small issue. The BIOS reads the ram as 1333MHz and the automatic voltage is 1.5v. The information for the memory says it's rated at 1.65v and 1600MHz. If I change the settings in the BIOS to 1600MHz it will run, usually. If I set it to 1.65v, it doesn't run at all. Last night, after messing with it for a while the 1600MHz tweak worked, but this morning after a cold start up I ran into the problem again.
The actual issue is that it gets into a reboot cycle until the BIOS eventually resets itself. The last code on the debug LED is 49. I can't find documentation about what that specific code means. I've run MemTest86, the memory reads fine.
I've already contacted both MSI and Kingston explaining the issue to see if either side might have an idea, but thought I'd check here to get a broader chance at finding the issue. Any help is appreciated.
    To clarify:
    1333MHz and 1.5v works fine.
1600MHz and 1.5v works, usually. Doesn't seem to work from a cold start. Debug code 49 if it gets into a boot-loop.
1600MHz and 1.65v never works. Debug code 49.

I'm back again, and with SOME good news.
I just got my RMA'd kit of memory (2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LP, XMP: 10-10-10-27, 1600MHz, 1.5v), installed them into DIMMs 2 and 4. Reset my CMOS and when it started up prompted me about the change in memory. Went in, turned on XMP and changed nothing else - it went back into that code 49 death spiral. Swapping back and forth between the two BIOS and turning on the OC Genie, it's gotten to the desktop now. Without the Genie on though, it just keeps rebooting. I guess I'm cool with it, but I really wanted to do the overclocking myself.
It's currently running (mostly) stable at 4.0GHz on the CPU and the expected XMP values on the memory. So far the only problem I've run into was a red screen (VGA related, might be the MSI After Burner) but that's an issue for another forum I suppose. It still stutters when booting up though, which has me concerned. I'm wondering if maybe it has been the motherboard this whole time - or maybe the CPU. Or maybe I just don't get what the deal is with these settings anymore. It HAS been something like 6 years since I put a computer together from scratch. I feel like an old man with how so much has so much has changed, even knowing it's just details that shouldn't really be crippling me this much.
At this point I guess I just need to break it in to see that it's kosher.
Thanks again for all the quick responses xmad, and for your input as well flobelix and Bernhard. If any of you have any more thoughts, please share.

  • Z77A-GD65 mobo and ethernet port

I recently rebuilt my computer using the Z77A-GD65 motherboard after my old one ( and my GPU) were killed by a bursting water cooler. I had a few problems setting it up, but the only problem left is that the ethernet port won't work. I'vr tried different drivers, both in Vista and Win7 but it won't work. Device manager recognises it, with an exclaimation mark, and properties says it cannot start with an error of D10 ( I think).
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks
    Paul
Ooops. Sorry. Did a forum search and found nothing so I posted this query. Then I googled it and it brought me back to Msi forum. Still if you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know.

I solved the problem with the Lan and the onboard sound at the weekend. I installed the mobo into a new Corsair Obsidian 750D case and everything started working. Except for the power switch and the power light, but that's probably my cack handedness. Thanks for your help.
