Z77A-GD65 SDD drive and RAID5

Hi,
First sorry for my english, I'm a poor french guy
For start my system :
Board: Z77A-GD65
Bios: Version X.X
VGA: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
PSU: Corsair HX - 620W
INTEL i7-3770k 3.5ghz - 8mo cache - turboboost - graphic hd 4000 - socket lga1155 bx80637i73770k
MEM: CORSAIR DDR3 PC3-12800 - 4 x 4 Go (16Go) 1600 MHz - CAS 9 - Vengeance Dissipateur Low Profile
HDD: SSD SAMSUNG 840 PRO - SATA III - 128 Go - MZ-7PD128BW
COOLER: Noctua NH-U12P SE2
OS: Windows 7 64bit Professional
In addition to that I have three Western Digital Caviar Green S-ATA - 1000 Go - 64 Mo in order to create RAID5 array. But here is trouble, let me explain.
My system work fine with BIOS SATA option in AHCI mode but if I set RAID mode (to create my RAID5 array) then I don't know what to do... SSD drive installed with AHCI didn't work with RAID mode, so I tried to reinstall windows with RAID mode but installation stops in the middle (just after reboot).
Do you have a solution for me?
Thanks a lot.

Use the top one, the latter is for certain Intel boards I believe although I am not sure. Perhaps M for mobile? I dunno.
The latest Raid drivers can be found here:

Might want to also update the SSD firmware while your are doing all this:

  • Z77A-GD65 ME Driver problems

Hello out there. I own a Z77A-GD65 and I am having trouble updating my ME drivers. Every time I launch Control
Center, it tells me to update my ME drivers. so I went to my motherboard's page and downloaded the current drivers.
the latest BIOS update installed ME drivers 8.1.20.1336. and on the MSI page the current version of ME drivers is ME
driver version 8.1.30.1349. After I run the ME Driver installer, my version remains at 8.1.20.1336 and I get the same
error from Control Center. My Version of Control Center is 2.5.063

    Try updating to the newest final UEFI/BIOS release;

4.4 - 4.7, maybe 4.8 depending on your CPU. Recommended limit for everyday as a 'maximum' of applied CPU V. is 1.400v's or less.
thank you will keep that in mind. Ive settled for a 4.2 stable. its more than efficient for my applications.

  • Building new Z77A-GD65, i3 3220 and it won't boot.

All new components, Z77A-GD65 with i3 3220 CPU and it will not boot. When I tried to boot, it would run the fans up to about half speed, light all the green diagnostics LEDs, indicate FF in the Multi BIOs display and then it would power-down for a few seconds and then it would try to post again and again, repeating. Then, just to be certain that I was certain I replaced the CPU cooler, disconnected the two wire start switch and started it with the start button.
I'd like comments on the above diagnostic process, did I shoot myself in the foot along the way? What HAS to be connect to the motherboard for the post to complete?
What I done so far: Since all are new parts I exchanged several.
    1. Exchanged power supply.
    2. I took the motherboard to MSI RMA service in Walnut, CA and they checked out and told me it was okay. The next day a MSI tech at Customer Service told me that only the latest BIOs update would support the i3 3220 CPU so I went back to MSI and they confirmed that the i3-3220 CPU was supported.
I would appreciate some suggestions about what to do.
    Thank You,
    cJerry

Did MSI verify that bios A5 or newer was installed on the main board?
Try building the computer on a non-conductive surface outside of the case. Install one stick of ram in DIMM 2, the cpu, the cooler and hook your monitor to the onboard vga.

  • Z77A-GD65 Live update and mouse

    Hey all!
trying to see if theres any update to the BIOS for my MB.... but when i enter liveupdate f rom the BIOS I cant use the mouse (well I can move it around but it wont register any clicks).
    So what shall I do?

  • Z77A-GD65 - fast ram and Intel Rapid Start don't work together??

    Greetings.
I have got 2x4Gbyte G.Skill CL10 2400Mhz ram. When running this ram at its default speed at 2400Mhz, Intel Rapid Start don't work. When I shut it down, it acts normal until the point where the system "wakes up" for a few seconds to write to the special partition for IRS. The PC then try to reboot, but after 2 attemps it says that the Overclocking has failed and I have the choise of F1 (setup) or F2 (load default settings and continue).
If I lower the ram speed below the default speed (i.e. don't use the XMP profile), then Intel Rapid Start works fine.
Memtest86 do not show any error at all after 4 pass with the G.Skill at 2400Mhz. To me it seems like the motherboard can't handle this speed at the state in Intel Rapid Start.
Anybody with info about what to do?

The internet is bloated with paid "reviews" ...
Here is what you have and what you paid for:
    http://ark.intel.com/products/65520
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) : 32 GB
    Memory Types : DDR3-1333/1600
    Memory Channels : 2
    Max Memory Bandwidth : 25.6 GB/s
Intel does not guarantee anything above 1600MHz.
On the top of that, 25.6 GB/s bandwidth is enough for DDR3-1600 in dual-channel only.
In other words, above 1600Mhz the perfomances boost is close to ZERO.
RAM speed over 1600Mhz does nothing? That WAS true, but not anymore. First of this:
    Anandtech:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6372/memory-performance-16gb-ddr31333-to-ddr32400-on-ivy-bridge-igp-with-gskill
    xbitlabs:
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/ivy-bridge-ddr3.html
    overclock.net:
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1438222/battlefield-4-ram-memory-benchmark
Second, I can messure a real performance difference when using this memory at 2400mhz vs 1600mhz, f.i. Winrar5.01 x64, when searching in reg.database, and other memoryhungry programs. My graphic-card is not powerfull enough to show any difference in games, but almost anything else I _can_ se a difference.
If you honestly can read these 3 links and still say, that memory speed does not matter, I think I know more about this than you
I'm quite sure, that a big place like Anandtech is not payed to show up this result.

    Hi Froggy,
Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciate it.
I think I must have been updating my signature when you viewed the post if it wasn't showing up. I am getting by on integrated graphics for the time being so could I OC that a little too?  The memory is Samsung Green DDR3 2 x 4GB but I've not re OC'd it yet whilst trying to ensure the CPU OC is stable first.
I found an old screenshot from my OC on BIOS v10.5 where I had the Spread Spectrum disabled so I think that has been the main thing causing instability this time around at achieving 4.4GHz on BIOS v10.6.  I've not used the Enhanced Turbo before so am not sure what that does, am coming from a very old non msi motherboard that used an Intel 440GX chipset.  Is the Enhanced Turbo the feature that OC's just the one core?  I've implemented some of these changes that I've highlighted in green and been running P95 for around 4 hours without any bsod, or threads in error.  CPU-Z mainly shows a core voltage of 1.176 or 1.184 and my temps on the hottest cores have maxed at 60c.  Will it be possible to go any higher than 4.4 but still retain the power saving of throttling back to 1.6GHz on idle?
    Disable EuP 2013
    Change Internal PLL to 'Enabled'
    Enhanced Turbo to 'Enabled'
    Disable 'Spread Spectrum'
    Try VDroop at 100%
Digital Comp Level change from 'Auto'
    Core Expander change from 'Default'
    Leave Core Switch as is
    Change I/O to 1.07
    SA to 0.970
    PLL to 1.82-1.84
    PCH 1.055-1.061
C-State either 'Disabled' or if want to keep it, change package limit to 'No Limit'
    Long 'D' (W) change to 250
    LD Maintain (s) to 60
    Short D (W) to 250
    Primary (A) leave alone
    Secondary (A) to 60
    Primary Turbo (W) to 250
    Secondary Turbo (W) to 250
Other notes; I always 'Disable' C-State, and 'Enable' C1E Support when doing a Turbo OC with EIST to take full advantage of those power saving features they provide.

  • Z77A-GD65 primary bios corruped and can't restore it!!

Hi guys, last weekend was happened a very strange thing ... i used my pc with MSI mb Z77A-GD65 regulary Saturday and power off without any problem,
Yesterday i power on my PC and doesn't work,  MB starts with coolers but no P.O.S.T sound error and only black screen, i try to reset bios .. nothing, i switch to secondary bios and immediatly works!
    Then pc runs fine.
So I  re-flash the primary bios and the procedure ends without no problem, i re-switch to primary bios and again not works like the beginning ...  i try other re-flash to primary bios but same story!
So finaly Pc works only if i switch to secondary bios, primary bios not work though i re-flashed bios .......what's up? is primary bios flash eprom damage... without any apparent problem?
All of 2 bios primary and secondary have the lasted MSi Z77A-GD65 Bios ver. 10.8

Hi, did you try flashing with M-flash Multibios flash tool under Bios?
If it doesn't work with 10.8 you need to downgrade it to 10.5 using MSI HQ USB BIOS Flash Tool, dont use the M-flash when downgrading Bios.
Then after you have 10.5 Bios use the Multibios option under your Bios, and it should work fine.
Hi, thanks for reply, i try every version of bios, i try to flash by Multibios flash tool under Bios, and by standard procudure, boot with 2nd bios with bootdisk,, than switch to primary bios and flash under dos..no way !!, primary bios don't want to boot up!
What is strange is every time i try to update primary bios with M-flash Multibios flash tool and by dos command,  only secondary bios updated not the primary one!!... its seems that primary bios flash memory no longer exists .. i think that primary bios flash memory has been damaged for incomprehensible fact ...

  • Z77A-GD65 overheating problem. Fan control?

Two weeks ago I built my computer with the intention of overclocking it.  With that in mind I put in a Corsair H60 liquid cooler.  My com isn't extremely powerful (my component list is in my signature below), so I figured the H60 would be more than enough.  HOWEVER, even without overclocking it runs hotter than I think it should. It idles in the mid-30Cs and quickly goes over 60C when I game.  I thought that wasn't too high, so I pushed to OC Genie button and it overclocked to a measly 4.2GHz.  Then my com idled in the mid-50s and after 15 min of gaming it was in the high 70Cs and climbing.  This freaked me out, so I de-overclocked it.
I read online that the radiator fan should be ~4000 rpm, but mine maxs out at ~2000 rpm.  I have another fan in the front of the case and it's even slower than that.  I hooked them up to sys fan 1 and 2 and turned the settings up for those in the bios to 100%, but they won't go any faster.  Is there a way to get them up to ~4000 rpm? Is that even my cooling problem?  Should I get aftermarket thermal paste and re-seat my H60?  I installed it with the pre-applied thermal paste the first time.
Please help!!!  I thought the H60 would easily keep my system ice cold, but it's not.  Where did I go wrong??

Hello-I have the same board and cooler,But using a I7 3770k. On almost every build-I only use the h60. There is 2 things you have to watch for.
1-Make sure the pump power plug-is plugged into the CPU Fan.-I have heard of other h60 having issues when plugged into one of the other fan slots. Not sure if it has to do with the Power coming out? But dbl check!!!
2-Mine always comes with a fan reducer. The fan reducer will run the fan at half the rpms. I never use my reducer.I also try and make sure to always have these in a push pull configuration. Depending on my case. If I have a case with plenty of front fans. I only apply the fan to the back of the case-than the radiator. Fan In Pull......But if I only have one fan in the front-or no fan in the front. I will purchase another 120mm Fan.
My temps with the H60-z77a-gd65-I7 3770k. and my case RAIDMAX AEOLUS ATX-818WB--all fan slots populated---Single fan in Pull
Ceramique 2 thermal paste-I always wipe the factory paste off and apply my own....
    Cpu temp----25 idle---50c load....
Never had any issues with the H60

  • Z77A-GD65 Problems with Ethernet (Intel 82579V) Code 10 and 55 error

it is just a day with disaster. I bought Z77A-GD65 yesterday, and now it almost driver me crazy , i have two most famous problem of the board ,the CODE10 and ERROR 55!!!
after i bought this board to home ,i spend few hour to figure out the reason why the system can not be booted.
the DIMM SLOT 3&4 of my board is malfunction,no matter what combination i use (1&3,2&3, 3&4...etc),but it works for 1 and 2(i have 4 ram sticks, all of them is fine)
i do upgrade to BIOS 10.5(thx god ,i have two computer ,otherwise i cant even do it because of following issue)
after i solve the problem by only plug in 2 ram (DIMM1&2), succeed to boot up, a new problem occurred to me ,the CODE10!
latest driver , clean system install ,cmos cleaned, does not help.
i have read this thread for code10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158591.msg1167303#msg1167303
    and  for error55
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.0
it seems the best way to solve it is RMA.
I notice that there is an Authorized Motherboard Repair Center (East Coast):
    361 Alden Road
    Markham, Ontario, L3R 3L
i live in Toronto, can i just go there and give the board to them  to fix it or i can only mail it?
If i need to mail it ,what should i do?

Code 10 means the device cannot start. You have the right driver for the Intel 82579V is shorted by either a motherboard screw or a raiser under it. The ethernet adapter has lights which light up id driver is installed (even though code 10 is in effect).
Solution: Remove 1 or 2 motherboard screws and turn the pc on. Repeat until you find out which screw caused the issue. For me it was the screw closest to the ethernet controller.
The wa i fixed it was I was used a plastic washer and I was still able to have the motherboard screw in and at the same time not get code 10 anymore and my Intel 82579V worked fine since.

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10) win says that there is only 3.9g available, and that its only running at 800 mhz

    WD Black Desktop 1TB SATA 6.0 GB/s 7200 RPM
    win 8
first issue just appeared out of nowhere a week after I finally got it running.  There is a network error every time I start the system, if I restart it goes away.
I"m  having audio problems, the speakers in my monitor work with the hdmi cable, but I am unable to use my good speakers, when I plug them into the back panel line out, there is no audio from any port, or the hdmi cable.
I've also noticed a device without a driver error

win8 is a 32b version, it was a 39.95 upgrade directly from microsoft...  safe to assume that the 64b version is worth the extra $?
have the board in a brand new case using 9 stand offs, all with screws through the board and into them.
The NIC is onboard, all the drivers are up to date except the audio, I'm downloading an updated driver for it (released 1/25/13)
left the machine turned on when I went to bed, when I got up the power led was blinking, and I had to press the power button to wake the machine.  this web page was open, but there was no network available, same error as above, I had to restart windows to get online.
Edit: the updated driver fixed the audio problem

  • Z77a-gd65 and evga 660ti pci question

    Hey folks,
I have been updating/rebuilding a system and have gone with a z77a-gd65 MB with the evga 660ti graphics card.  My question is that when booting on the initial splash screen I can see that the system is using PCI 2.0 instead of PCI 3.0, is there something in the BIOS that I missed?
What are the main benefits of PCI3.0 over PCI2.0.

Hi i use on my case Enermax Hoplite ST the front USB 3.0 port that have a 20 pin usb 3.0 header cable to connect on my Z77A-GD65 MB, i use this port with external usb 3.0 feed powered enclosure hard-disk Samsung F3  - 3,5 " 1TB SATA  for back up .... randomly, without any reason, enclosure disconnect , why? i haven't this problem if i connect the enclosure on frontal usb 2.0 and even if i connect to REAR USB 3.0 port .... only frontal USB 3.0 have this problem ... why? any idea? maybe frontal USB 3.0 have less ampacity of rear USB 3.0, than disconnect my enclosure?
    bye

Could be a problem with your Enermax case's front cabling. If you have another USB 3 front or rear connection bracket, then you could plug that into the USB 3 header to test.
Else you will have to check with MSI technical what the max amps are on the USB 3 header. Mine works just fine with a portable 500GB external portable drive.

  • Z77A-GD65 ram and DR. mos problem after 2 years without any HW change or OC!

Hi guys, i have three Z77A-GD65 from 2 years with the same hardware config, no overclock or others OC settings ....simply default bios settings;  in this last 2 months, not at the same time, all of my 3 mainboards  have the same identical problem.
One day, from nowhere, without any reason, i start my pc and mobo don't start, hangs with code 55 ( memory error) and Dr mos alarm led goes on, i try to reset bios .. nothing.
I Switch multibios to "B" bios and works perfectly .. i've tested all of RAM modules and result works perfectly !! .... all of three mainboards have the same identical problem!!
Now i use all my 3 PCs with "B" bios and works perfectly, because "A" bios hangs always with code 55 and with Dr. mos alarm led on, i try to update and downgrade "A" bios ... nothing to do ... "A" bios don't work anymore.
    Any idea?

Nichrome, you misunderstood! ... I just responded to your affirmation .. that's all, it was not my intention to was "rude" as you wrote! OK?
Ram  modules have been tested on other Asus mainboard  .. .. no read/write errors and no hangs problems ... so all Ram modules are fine
About bios ..... maybe primary bios is physically damaged.... i try to reflash bios also with old version .. no way .. maybe primary bios damage in all 3 mainboards  !! very strange!!! ... you know if there's a know manufacturing defect on this MB bios maybe on a particular MB serial part number? because i bought all 3 mainboards at same time about 2 years ago.
Quote from: Sea Dog on 19-July-14, 02:40:52
Obviously, there is 'something' that has caused BIOS corruption in all 3 mainboards A chips. Whatever that 'something' is, it may happen to the backup B chips as well. Recommend to concentrate on finding this 'something', what the common denominator is, and restoring BIOS chips A before the mainboards may become expensive paperweights. A shop with an SPI flash programmer device can fix the broken BIOS chips if not comfortable with doing the recovery procedure yourself.
Hi, yes i agree,  In fact, my fear is to have, in a while, these mainboard totally unusable!  ..... i think that primary bios is physically damaged or i hope, software damaged, I would try to recover it,  if it's only a software problem (i hope so) ... do you know a procedure to completely erase cleanly that reflash the primary bios? i try to use dos MSI flash utility with "/p /b /n" options .. no success to restore A bios ... same story ... error 55 and DR-mos alarm led on.
