Z77A-GD65 USB3 port with Seagate Freeagent go desk issues

I have a Z77A-GD65 motherboard, with an intel i5 Ivy Bridge 3570k processor. Kingwin LZP-550 PSU and have attached via USB3 (using a USB3 cable of course) a seagate Free Agent Go Desk 2TB external hard drive.
On my old system the drive when the system is on, is running just spins down when its not in use.. power light stays on for the drive all the time. That was also a USB3 system, just another USB3 chipset.
On this motherboard, sometimes the drive when the system is powered up doesn't turn on and I have to unplug the USB cable and replug it in, after that the drive power LED comes on and spins up.
Any reason why this motherboard is acting like this? The drive should come on with the system like it did on my old system.
Anything I can do to fix this or change the USB ports behavior? It's almost like its not telling the device it's on.

Attached is the latest beta bios for your board.(MSI recommended this)
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
MSI tried to duplicate the problem but couldn't does this testing procedue seem right to you?
1.   Install System driver and reset
2.   Connect USB HDD to USB 3.0 port. The device can be recognized.
3.   Reboot the system
4.   Check Computer and still can find the USB HDD
5.   Power off the system
6.   Power on and check Computer.
Z77A-GD65
BIOS: E7751IMS.A50
WIN7 64 bit
USB 3.0 driver: 1.0.4.225
Seagate FreeAgent Goflex STAA1500301 1.5TB
I installed that BIOS and still have the issue, one easy way to reporduce this is to power up the system into windows 7 x64, sleep the computer in (sleep mode in bios is set to S3) when you wake it, the USB3 drives are offline

  • Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk frustration

    Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk external hard drive. Unfortunately, there seems to be a conflict with either my hardware or software. The drive seems to go to sleep after a period on non-use and consequently crashes the Finder and various apps when trying to gain access. I can see the icon for the drive... even navigate down some recently used directories, but then I'll go too far, get the beach ball and have to force restart the entire machine. The same will happen if I'm using an app trying to access files on the drive. I can force quit the app and/or Finder, but they will not be available for use until I force quit the entire machine. I've been trying to solve this problem for a couple weeks now without success, so I thought I'd turn to the Mac community here.
    * The drive has been reformatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    * I have used Seagate Diagnostics and the drive passes all tests.
    * I have disabled drive sleep under Energy Saver.
    * I have tested the drive on a MacBook running the same OS as my iMac (10.6.6) without a problem.
    * I have disabled Time Machine backup to a TimeCapsule to see if that helps. Does not.
    * I have disconnected other drives to see if that helps. Does not.
    * I have disabled virus scans, media servers and other apps (that I know of) that sometime run in BG.
    * I have tried different USB ports and different wall plugs.
I'm beginning to think there is some sort of compatibility issue with my hardware, but it could still be some sort of software that is conflicting. I simply cannot find the pattern.
I spoke with Seagate support and we got as far as the recommendation to test on another machine. The drive seemed to work fine there, so I'll have to continue troubleshooting with them from that point, but I thought someone here might have some ideas as well.

The O.P. reported using Seagate Diagnostics unsuccessfully, but I wondered if anyone had used the
    GoFlex for Mac software.
Below is Seagate's description. You can see that it specifically says that it includes drivers to disable the built-in sleep timer (which I think is the cause of the problem(. Somewhere in the Seagate discussion forums I think I saw that you don't have to set anything, just installing the relevant drivers is enough.
As I mentioned previously, it is possible to look at the scripts in the installation package, but I found them too complicated to understand.
I agree with gogogut that having the drive spin constantly is not a good solution for most people. I only used that drive for video programs and processing them, so I unmounted and turned the drive off except when I needed it to be active.
    File Version: 1.1.2
    File Name: Seagate GoFlex Software.mpkg.zip
    File Size: 5MB
Supported Operating Systems: MacOS 10.5.11+, MacOS 10.6
    Summary
Seagate Drive Settings application for MacOS is included on the GoFlex series of drives. Simply double click it to install the software. If the software was deleted, it can be downloaded using the link below.
This software package includes Diagnostic software for testing the drive, drivers to disable the built-in sleep timer on the drive, and drivers to enable the capacity gauge for GoFlex Desk models. It has now been updated to support 64-bit and 32-bit version of MacOS.

  • Z77A-GD65 Quick Sync with Virtu MVP Issue

Hi everyone! My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but my searching didn't find anything conclusive. I'm a very happy convert from an EVGA P67 SLI board (ugh) to an MSI Z77A-GD65 (YAY!) So far, I absolutely love this board but I'm having an issue I hope someone can answer. I run a YouTube channel and render a lot of video using Sony Movie Studio Platinum. This product is supposed to support Intel's Quick Sync technology to greatly speed up processing times. Normally, you need to have a monitor running off the IGP for this to be available but Virtu MVP is supposed to get around this. I have a GTX770 as my main video card and a Core i7-2600K which is confirmed to support Quick Sync. However, I've had no luck getting Quick Sync to appear as available to Movie Studio Platinum. Here's what I've done:
    1. Enabled IGP in the BIOS (also tried making it the primary display adapter, didn't change anything.)
    2. Installed latest drivers for both Intel HD 3000 and my GTX770. Both are available to the system.
    3. Set Virtu MVP as D-Mode (either mode supposedly enables Quick Sync and D-Mode's obviously better for gaming.)
    4. Installed the Virtu MVP software and created a profile for Movie Studio Platinum. Tried it in both D-Mode and I-Mode through the software.
The short of it is that Movie Studio Platinum does not recognise Quick Sync as being available. It's just not selectable which means it can't detect it. I've also tried plugging my secondary monitor directly into the IGP. This isn't supposed to be necessary with Virtu MVP but I don't game on my second monitor so whatever. Still nothing. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do now. I've been told that most mainboards require you to enable Quick Sync specifically in the BIOS but I don't see that option. Is it just always enabled when the IGP is on this board or does it have to be toggled elsewhere?
If anyone has advice on this, I would really appreciate it. My purchase of this board wasn't contingent on Quick Sync but given the amount of video rendering I'm doing right now, having that acceleration would be a massive boon to me. This feels like I'm just missing something simple. Any advice people can offer? Thanks a ton everyone!

I actually did download the latest MVP from their site, is that what you're talking about or something else?
I'm pleased to report that my Quick Sync issue has been resolved and well, it was pretty much my fault. Turns out only certain rendering profiles in Movie Studio Platinum are able to use Quick Sync. Their documentation didn't make this clear but I stumbled over the solution and it's working like a charm. Thanks!

  • Problem with Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 750gb

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook with Mac OSX 10.5.8 and i have a Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 750gb.
The problem is that the Mac can not see all the 750 gb but it only sees 700 !!!
Hard disck works fine, only the size is wrong.
A friend has my same Macbook but the SO is Snow Leopard and he can read all the 750 !!
    Someone can help me.
    Thanks

Leopard and Snow Leopard calculate disk sizes differently. See here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2009/08/29/snow-leopard-the-new-one-gigabyte-now-slimmer-tha n-before/
Basically, Leopard counts every 1024 bits as a kilobyte, and Snow Leopard counts every 1000 bits as a kilobyte. That different way of measuring results in the different reported sizes.
The disk is the same size, and will be written to the same by either machine; however, your Leopard machine just reports a smaller number. No need to worry.

  • MSI z77a-gd65 error 55 with 4 DIMMs installed

While I did find another thread similar to my issue mine is a little different as all slots are functional.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.msg1162108#msg1162108
If I install 4 DIMMs the board shows "55" on the debug LEDs. If I take out any two DIMMs (slots 1,3 or slots 2,4) the system boots fine and is completely stable. I can also have either pair install to either set of slots. I also made sure the memory timing, voltage, etc. where set correctly in the BIOS.
    Any suggestions?

    That it works when slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 are used, points to a problem an updated UEFI/BIOS may or may not resolve. Recommend to contact MSI Technical with your findings and see what they recommend or have to say about it;
    >> How To Contact MSI <<
Well it appears to be a problem with the RAM. I just happen to be building another system with an asrock board and 16GB of G.Skill RAM. swapped RAM into my system and the G.Skill works perfectly in my z77a-gd65 board with all four slots populated. The Corsair RAM produces the exact same behavior when install in the asrock board. I'm just going to RMA the RAM.

  • X58A-GD65 USB3 problem with WD MyBook

    Hi,
I have X58A-GD65 with i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, 4 internal HDD, 4 external HDD, Win 7 x64. Two of the external are WD MyBook Essential USB 3.0/2.0.
My Renesas drivers are v 2.0.34.0 (the ones from the board page).
When I plug two of the WD drives, only ones can be seen. Both on BIOS level and Win 7 level.
Any insight or any newer drivers that work?
    Sincerely
    Bülent

I memory serves corretly, there is a firmware update available from WD that pertains to this.
Also have you checked in the disk manager? Perhaps one needs to be set up.

  • Z77A-GD65 Asmedia error with Intel set to RAID

I've had my boot drive and an SSD on the two Intel SATA 3 ports, for RST.  The controller was set to RAID mode (as it has to be), the discs were listed as non-RAID when it booted, and the cache was working fine.
I just bought a new drive, plugged it in, and found when anything is connected to the Asmedia ports (in either ACHI or IDE mode) when it boots, it gives the "A disk read error occurred, press CAD to restart" message.  Strangely enough, I found that if I powered the drive up after I was in Windows, it would recognize properly and work fine - but that's not what I'm looking for.
So far the only way I've been able to get the machine to boot with the drive connected was to turn off RST/switch the Intel controller back to AHCI.
If anyone knows a way to work around this so I can get both to work at the same time, I could use the help.

That's what I did - the boot drive and the cache ssd were always on sata 1 and 2 (which I'm pretty sure is required for RST to work anyway) and my optical drive is on 3; I plugged the new drive in 7 on the Asmedia controller so I could get the full sata3 benefit.
I would assume that anyone trying to use any form of hardware raid on the Intel controller would run in to the same problem (without drives on the secondary controller in the raid, obviously), but I can't find any specific reference to that anywhere.
Also the same thing happens on the official 10.7 bios release that just came out, which I tried as well.

  • [Z77A-GD65] latest bios with ME?

    Hi
I was just looking at updating my bios, a82 which was provided to me from a tech support ticket didn't update the ME firmware, so was looking at bringing both the bios and ME up to date.
The bios thread for this board mentions a83 is the latest beta bios but doesn't mention that it includes the ME update. Also is the a83 bios more up to date than the a80 official release, I'm guessing so but just like to check?
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163874.0

I'm having some difficulty in getting this flash (A80 official) to commit.
I've tried a couple of times using the forum flasher tool (version 1.25g) which doesn't give any feedback of any errors. However, after resetting the CMOS and rebooting it only shows the bios version to have changed to 10.8 and the build date 12/17/2012 but the ME firmware version has remained unchanged.
Reading the forum flasher tool instructions it mentions that boot sector protection could be the cause of this but I don't see an option for that in the bios.  Is the 'Execute Disable Bit' in the CPU features section the same thing?
Also, the forum flasher tool upon completion gives the option to reboot but I understood that the CMOS was to be reset so should the user answer no to rebooting and then power off system and then reset CMOS or should this be done after an initial reboot?
An option called 'PCH-FW' also crept into the bios at some stage that seems to relate to the ME firmware recovery, should this be set to disabled?

  • Z77a-gd65 i7-3770k will not drop multiplier when idle windows 8

New to the forums here!  my setup is a z77a-gd65 i7-3770k with windows 8, and recently i've had a weird issue where no matter what my cpu stays at a constant x39 multiplier according to CPU-Z (version 1.63.0.x64).  i've tried just setting all BIOS settings to default to no avail.  Then I tried a simple turbo clocking method where I set all 4 core limits to 40 just to test, kept c1e and cstate options enabled, disabled speedstep, enabled enhanced turbo, and used xmp profile for memory, all other things default, and it's still stuck at x39 according to cpuz.  Is there anything else I should check?
I basically want a simple oc for now where it idles at x16 and goes up to xwhatever when the cpu is being used.  i just find it weird that after messing with some settings the multiplier never changes.
    Thanks for your help!

Just set those to default then set it to balanced. If it throttles you know it is the settings.
Otherwise, you might want to try updating to the most recent bios. >>Beta BIOSes<<
I'll give that a shot after work and report back

  • Cannot Boot Z77A-GD65 w/ASMedia SATA Ports Enabled

Hey all. I saw one older thread with no answers posted in it but I'm hoping someone here knows a solution to this. I'm running a Z77A-GD65 with the latest 10.11 BIOS. I current have an SSD (which has Windows on it), a 1TB HDD for games and two other 3TB drives on eSATA ports. I want to add in another 1TB drive and RAID 0 it with the current one but in order to do this and keep everything else, I had to enable the ASMedia 7/8 SATA ports on the board which I previously wasn't using. I moved my two eSATA connectors onto those ports, put my SSD on SATA1. As long as the ASMedia ports are enabled, my system will not boot. The BIOS gives the error that it can't find an OS on my SSD (even though it does detect properly and is selected as the primary boot device.) Trying to select the SSD by pressing F11 gives the same result. As soon as I disable the ASMedia ports again, the system boots fine.
Basically, the system is rendered useless with the ASMedia ports enabled. Some people say they can boot off of those but the performance is apparently very bad so I'm not prepared to do that. It makes no sense that enabling another controller that has nothing to do with the Intel one breaks that but there we have it.
Is there a solution to this problem? I'm not going to be at all pleased if I have to buy a separate SATA card when I have one on the board that can't be used. Thanks all!

I resolved the problem by deleting the ASMedia drivers and using Device Mgr to "Update Drivers / Browse My Computer" and selecting the Microsoft default drivers. So far my 1 TB Seagate drive is running fine with my CD/DVD Combo on the other port. I don't know if there will be issues if I connect two HDD to the ASMedia ports or not. I thought I would post this in case it would help someone else having issues. I haven't ran any benchmarks for performance but it seems fairly snappy when copying files from my SSD to the HDD.
BTW, I am ditching my EVGA 680 SLI for a new MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G which will be here tomorrow. It matches my motherboard color scheme and layout perfectly. I am really looking forward to seeing that lighted dragon logo inside my PC's window. I am hoping this MSI video board serves me as well as my EVGA boards have in the past.
EDIT: I spoke too soon. After copying several folders to the Seagate drive my PC froze up. Keyboard and mouse were unresponsive and it required a hard restart. I tried switching ports for the mouse and the light only flickered briefly when I plugged it in. The Seagate drive is working fine on my free Intel SATA port. I have abandoned the notion of running 3 Samsung drives in a RAID array because benchmarks show a performance drop off. Two SSD in RAID_0 seem to be best for optimum performance. I'm still looking forward to my new MSI video board. Maybe this mobo needs RMA? Maybe power issues with the ASMedia SATA ports? IDK, I need to RMA sooner or later because one of the BIOS is fried.

  • SATA 7/8 not showing up with the Z77A-GD65

I've recently purchased a new system, and everything runs smoothly other than the fact that my computer is seemingly unable to recognise any devices plugged into the SATA 7/8 ports on the mainboard. I'm trying to install an SSD as a boot drive.
I've double checked the cables, power, resetting cmos as well as plugging it in to the other SATA ports and it shows up fine, but in the BIOS the 7/8 ports do not even display under the system information section.
I've been unable to use the LiveUpdate tool for the BIOS as it leads me to a blank screen and I end up just having to restart my computer as nothing happens after a half hour or so.
Would really appreciate some help with this.

Okay, I know how you all hate buttinskis but... I just logged on to post a very similiar conundrum with my Z77a-GD65 so I thought I'd save some virtual trees and append here.
The reason why I (and possibly Murrph) want to boot from ports 7 or 8 is because we want to run SATA3 RAID. The Asmedia ports don't appear to allow that so our only option is to RAID SATA3s from the Intel ports 1&2 which leaves only ports 7 or 8 for our SATA3 boot drive, a slightly slower boot is a small price to pay for a faster raid. Data disks are fine with the SATA2 3-6 but I'd prefer not having to add an additional SATA3 controller to set up my rig the way I'd like it to run.
Granted, Z77s and SATA3 are still in their infancy and Intel is humpin' to keep up but it would be nice if the BIOS and mobo makers could add a little more leeway with their secondary SATA3 chipsets (beyond the braggin' rights of having "4 SATA3 Ports"!)
[BTW- Thumbs Up on the Thumbs Down for "Live Updates", the technology just isn't there yet.]

  • Z77A-GD65 mobo and ethernet port

I recently rebuilt my computer using the Z77A-GD65 motherboard after my old one ( and my GPU) were killed by a bursting water cooler. I had a few problems setting it up, but the only problem left is that the ethernet port won't work. I'vr tried different drivers, both in Vista and Win7 but it won't work. Device manager recognises it, with an exclaimation mark, and properties says it cannot start with an error of D10 ( I think).
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks

Ooops. Sorry. Did a forum search and found nothing so I posted this query. Then I googled it and it brought me back to Msi forum. Still if you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know.

I solved the problem with the Lan and the onboard sound at the weekend. I installed the mobo into a new Corsair Obsidian 750D case and everything started working. Except for the power switch and the power light, but that's probably my cack handedness. Thanks for your help.

  • Z77A-GD65 mixing two DDRAM pack, same brand with same parameters problem

Hello. I have question. My mobo is z77a-gd65. I have 16gb of ram. Is it pack of 4x4gb modules from corsair vengeance lp (CML16GX3M4A1600C9). Because one module is damaged (tested in memtest) i buy new pack. This new pack is absolutely the same as previous but only 8gb (2x4gb). Is it same brand and timings (CML8GX3M2A1600C9). My problem is.. i can not enable the xmp profile in bios. This option is not accesible if i use 2x2gb from first pack and 2x2gb from second pack. Next problem.. if i change the ddram frequency  manually to 1600mhz (from 1333 - detected whith bios) which is default fq after save settings and restart, bios automatically set frequency to 1333. I try use oc genie but the same and no luck.
Is not possible use two different memory pack from one brand with absolutely same parameters? Why i cant use and is disabled xmp option? Why bios automatically changing ddram frequency?
    Thanks.

Corsair warns of mixing RAM even with the same exact part numbers. Best thing to do would be to contact Corsair and ask them to replace what you have with a factory matched and tested RAM kit. I have heard they are very good about doing that for the end user.

  • Z77A-GD65 Problems with Ethernet (Intel 82579V) Code 10 and 55 error

it is just a day with disaster. I bought Z77A-GD65 yesterday, and now it almost driver me crazy , i have two most famous problem of the board ,the CODE10 and ERROR 55!!!
after i bought this board to home ,i spend few hour to figure out the reason why the system can not be booted.
the DIMM SLOT 3&4 of my board is malfunction,no matter what combination i use (1&3,2&3, 3&4...etc),but it works for 1 and 2(i have 4 ram sticks, all of them is fine)
i do upgrade to BIOS 10.5(thx god ,i have two computer ,otherwise i cant even do it because of following issue)
after i solve the problem by only plug in 2 ram (DIMM1&2), succeed to boot up, a new problem occurred to me ,the CODE10!
latest driver , clean system install ,cmos cleaned, does not help.
i have read this thread for code10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158591.msg1167303#msg1167303
    and  for error55
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.0
it seems the best way to solve it is RMA.
I notice that there is an Authorized Motherboard Repair Center (East Coast):
    361 Alden Road
    Markham, Ontario, L3R 3L
i live in Toronto, can i just go there and give the board to them  to fix it or i can only mail it?
If i need to mail it ,what should i do?

Code 10 means the device cannot start. You have the right driver for the Intel 82579V is shorted by either a motherboard screw or a raiser under it. The ethernet adapter has lights which light up id driver is installed (even though code 10 is in effect).
Solution: Remove 1 or 2 motherboard screws and turn the pc on. Repeat until you find out which screw caused the issue. For me it was the screw closest to the ethernet controller.
The wa i fixed it was I was used a plastic washer and I was still able to have the motherboard screw in and at the same time not get code 10 anymore and my Intel 82579V worked fine since.
