Z77A-GD80 Boot Error Code 55

Okay, let me start with my setup.
CPU: i5 3570K
MOBO: Z77A-GD80
RAM: 4x16GB 2133 Patriot Viper 3
PSU: Corsair AX850
GPU: EVGA GTX 690
My rig is able to boot when more than 2 DIMM slots are used. It will post Error Code 55 and just try to reboot repeatedly with no luck. I tried the following method that worked on my old ASRock Extreme6.
1. Turn system off
2. Take all RAM out except A1
3. Clear CMOS
4. Set XPM Profile1
5. Repeat steps 1-4 adding another stick of RAM until all 4 are installed.
To no luck, this method wasn't successful with the GD80.
Any suggestions?

Do you have bios 1.0 installed?
1.1 was terrible for allot of us with the z77a-gd80.
Try: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=160715.0
Use the forums flash tool.
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Then try with xmp disabled afer a full cmos clear.
Ps. Did you try each stick individually and each dimm by itself as well? (Check for bad memory / dimm/pathway etc)
I will flash BIOS to 1.0 this afternoon.
Yes, I tried each DIMM slot and all memory sticks work. I changed MOBOs from ASRock Extreme6 to the GD-80.
Thanks for the suggestion, I post results tonight.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80, POST error code 54

I have just assembled a new system:
M-Board: MSI 990FXA-GD80  (UEFI BIOS with factory version E7640 AMSB50, indicated by green label on BIOS chip)
CPU: AMD Phneom II X6 1055T
    RAM: 2 x Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 8GB REG/ECC
PSU: Fractal Design Newton R2 1000W PSU
    GPU: Asus GeForce EN8600GT Silent/HTDP 512MB
I start the sytem and get 3 distinctive beeps from the speaker and error post code 54
    I have tried the following:
    1. Remove one RAM stick and start the system with just one RAM stick in slot DIMM1. Result: Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
    2. Removed the RAM sticks completely (in hope to get an error code indicating RAM is missing). Result: Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
    3. Switching the RAM sticks (DIMM1 <-> DIMM2). Result: Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
    4. Tried the processor on another board (ASUS) that I know works. The processor runs fine on the ASUS board.
    5. Activated the "Easy Button 3" Reset button. Result: Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
    6. Activated the CL_CMOS button at the Back Panel. Result Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
    7. Clear Data position of Clear CMOS Jumper JBAT1 (with power disconnected),  and the back to Keep data position. Result: Same error codes, 3 beeps and post code 54
All fans are working OK. Everything seems to be correctly connected after double checks.
Is there anything else I can do, without returning the MOBO to shop?  I guess I can not update the BIOS if I do not get passed the post?
Anything else that can be wrong?
I am greatful for any initiated help.

No, I have not tried to boot the MOBO outside of the case. However I have come a little bit further:
I bought a less expensive memory stick of just 2GB; Kingston RMD3-1333/2G and put this in the DIMM1 slot.
With this memory the PC booted and completed the POST. This allowed me to download and flash the latest BIOS; 7640vB8 from MSI.
I then turned off the PC and re-installed the 8GB Drucial memory stick in DIMM1. I then got the original problem back.
My conclusion is that the 8GB memory from Crucial is not compatible with the MSI 990FXA-GD80 board and the Phenom II X6 processor.
If anyone have any idea how I could get my memories from Crucial to work on the MOBO I would be grateful. I have paid dearly for them.
    Just saw this:
    Quote
    RAM: 2 x Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 8GB REG/ECC
you are using the wrong memory type.
you need to use no REG/no ECC memory

    Hi,
Did you want to install Windows 7 on your Windows server 2008R2?
The error message: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. Status: (0Xc00000e9)
is a hardware error pertaining to your system’s BIOS.  Basically it is telling you that the computer is not able to reliably communicate with the hard drive.
I suggest to update BIOS to the latest version, and try to rebuilt BCD follow these steps in this thread:

  • HP Pavilion DV7 1120eo doesn't boot (Error Code 1 / CPU)

    Hi,
    I have a DV7 that doesn't want to boot.
When I try to boot it up, the screen just stays black and the caps lock indicator blinks one time between each "pause", which should be an error code for broken CPU(?!).
I asked the HP Support team on Twitter how reliable the error codes are, and according to them they should be reliable.
So I repleaced the CPU with another one, but still the error code shows when I try to boot.
I'm just wondering if you may know what could be wrong? Could the CPU socket itself be broken?
I found a long hair laying in between the CPU and CPU socket, but I reckon that it can't be the problem, or else something would've gone wrong like 3 years ago - since it must have been there since the computer was manufactured.
Anyway, I hope I can get some clarity or advice on things to try out.
    Best Regards
    Alexander

Baking in the oven can work but it is a crude, temporary fix. Unless you have access to high tech diagnostic and repair tools, a bad motherboard is a bad motherboard and is a "replace only" item. There are services on the internet where shops with the tools will fix your motherboard and the cost is very reasonable if you can remove the motherboard yourself and just ship that, instead of the whole computer. We are talking in the range of $60US. Even if you have to send the board to the US, the cost is very competitive with a replacement board.  Here is a replacement board on eBay that ships worldwide from China:

This repair service would be $108 with shipping:

  • Z77A-GD65 Gave Error Code CA with ASUS Radeon HD 6450

I have a Z77A-GD65 based system primarily as a file server and for video editing which has been working fine for about a year.  I finally got around to installing two Radeon HD 6450 cards from ASUS and the motherboard gave me a hardware code CA.  The cards went in the 2nd and 3rd x16 slots; the first one has a RAID controller.  I removed the 2nd card and same thing.  I removed the first card as well and it booted normally.  I understood this to be a compatible card.  Suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Don Estes

if you just plug VGA card to 1st and 2nd slot (without your RAID card),  will boot up be ok?
have you tried updating to the latest bios?

  • Z87-G45 Gaming - Boot error code A2 (stalled)

    Hey folks,
I just purchased this board with an i5-4670k
I have a weird issue with the boot process.  It doesn't occur at bios default values, only when I change them.
Here is the steps I do prior to get this stalled on BIOS load screen
1- I change the OC settings to get to either 4.2 or 4.4GHZ (1.29v for CPU 4.4ghz and 2v for input)
2- hit F10, save and restart
    3- Boot normaly into windows.
4- Launch AIDA64 to stress test the system for 8h.  Yes I did the 8 hours at first.  It successfully passed the stress test.
    5- I browsed a little bit.
    6- I played battlefiled
    No issue so far.
    7- I shutdown the computer.
8- I then restarted it, and BOOOOMM.  It stalls on the black screen, prior to the Dragon screen, with a A2 code in the lower right corner.
So I know the the OC is fine, since the stress test is OK for that long.  I tried it several time, but only stressed it for 30min, then reboot and BOOMMM again.  :/
So can someone, from MSI, help me?
    Thx

    Hey!
I decided to chip in since I have almost the same issue.
My PC boots to Windows and runs just fine apart from the 2second A2 debug code delay. Been playing games like BF4 for a good amount of time etc.
I just seem to be getting that same A2 debug code whenever I boot, seems to be the WD Caviar Red drive I just bought a week ago, already tried a few different sata and power cables, which dont help the case. When I unplug it the boot happens normally without any debug codes. Thing is the HDD seems to be working just fine, tested it with HD Tune Pro and CrystalDiskInfo. Also im not certain, but pretty sure that the A2 debug code only started happening after I installed a GTX 770 (day after the WD 1TB Caviar Red drive). Then again that doesnt make much sense? Since then it would most likely be an issue with the PSU, but seeing how I can play BF4 on high settings for 2hours straight it most definately isnt I think. My problem doesnt have anything to do with overclocking though, since I run everything on default.
Any ideas? And again, sorry for chipping in your thread. Just saw the same debug code problem and thought I shouldnt do a new one.

Its a PC I've built for a friend, no bios or hardware update had been performed all he did was come in one night and turned it on, and it did that, it has 512Mb DDR 2700, Athlon 2400+ XP and uses everything onboard eg sound and graphics, no it doesn't have a d bracket unfortunatly! Have tried disconnecting all the drives and even swapping the memory and it still gives the same code.
how long has your friend had the system? did he do anything to it before it started doing this?
you say you swapped the memory, does the system have two sticks, if so try just one on its own. if you only have one stick in it, then try some memory out of another machine. do you have an AGP card you could try? maybe some nasty dust is settled inside AGP slot, try blowing out with air duster

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings
First I was able to get into the option 11 and run the whole factory reset, i was so happy because I tought it will be easy.. but then after I did the factory reset.. I keep getting this blue screen. if I press ESC I get into this next screen:
    F1 System Information
    F2 System Diagnostics
    F9 Boot Device Options
    F10 BIOS Setup
    F11 System Recovery
    ENTER - Continue Startup.
this is what happen when I click any of this options:
F1 I get into the System Information with no problems, then I click <ESC> to continue and get back to the last screen... then I press F2 and super, I am able to run Memory Test and Hard Drive Check 100% with no problems in any of those, after I am done with my teste I press exit and I am back to the F1,F2, ETC menu... now I want to try F9, F10 or F11. bummer.. in this 3 options I get back to the blue screen described at the beggining of this post. (I already connect a USB with an boot loader, which works perfectly)
so I can't do anything, nothing at all!! crazzines.
So what I did to check why I can't get into the BIOS or at least to boot from my USB... I removed the botton cover of my laptop and removed the hard drive and that's how then I was or I am able to Log into the BIOS, - I did the changes to boot first from the USB and then from the HD and this is how I was able to boot from the USB - BUT If I connect back the Hard drive, I am not able to get into the BIOS or boot from the USB - so basically I am stuck in this blue screen and I can't boot from a USB if I have the HD connected.. I can't use any option.. no BIOS, nothing.. only if again, i disconnect the HD.

If you can't access BIOS with the hard disk connected, you certainly won't be able to boot to the usb recovery flashdrive. That is indicative of a failed hard disk.
Install a new hard disk and then boot to the recovery flashdrive.
