Z77MA-G45 clearance for large cpu heatsink?

Hi .
I am currently ordering parts to put together a quiet pc. I am looking at getting a Z77MA-G45 mbd but am worried that the heatsinks around the cpu area look tall so may restrict the use of a large cpu cooler. The CPU heatsink I am looking at is a 'scythe mugen 3.'
Can I assume that the Z77MA-G45 is a fairly standard design (heatsink wise) so the mugen 3 should fit without any clearance issues?
Thanks.
edit.... Quote from a Mugen review 'The distance between the lowest heatsink fin and the mainboard surface is 48 mm'
So I guess a simpler question is. How tall are the heatsinks around the cpu socket on a Z77MA-G45 please?

That cpu should fit fine. I have never used that paticular cooler but from the look of it: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/scythe-mugen-3_3.html#sect0
The mobo used in that picture has much larger heatsinks than the g45.

  • Looking for a CPU Heatsink for a AM socket motherboard

I am trying to upgrade my motherboard to a Angelica2.  The support information sheet stated that I can use a Zambezi FX processors.  The list is long so I want put them all down.  I ordered through Amazon the FX-8350 processor.  The processor went in the sockets with no problem.  The heatsink stated that is supported the AM3+sockets.  Well the motherboard did not have the supports around the processor sockets holes for the new heatsink. Here is the problem.  I can not find the heatskink that will support this board.  Please help. I have the parts number which is HP#656333.001.  The HP# for the processor is 657914-011.

AM3b is also known as AM3+. I am assuming you had another motherboard in the computer before you got this one and you wanted to swap over the old heatsink/cooler. That is why I want to see the old motherboard or maybe just the old fan/heatsink. I think you need a bracket adapter plate or they might be mounts on the old board you can just detach and move over.  http://www.amazon.com/AMD-CPU-Bracket-Base-socket/dp/B006JA9PTC

  • Buying Z77MA-G45 with an Ivy Bridge CPU

    Hi
I would like to buy Z77MA-G45 with Ivy Bridge CPU. It isn't supported by default BIOS (1.1), and I don't really have any possibility to upgrade BIOS with a supported CPU (yes, I've read the topic).
    So now questions:
    - is Z77MA-G45 runnable with Ivy Bridge just to get to BIOS and update from an USB drive on in a similar way?
    - is there any marking on mobos' box that could indicate the BIOS loaded (the BIOS version itself, lot number, serial number, something similar?)
    TIA

Quote from: Warner on 16-May-12, 00:53:07
    Hello TIA,
The board will handle all Ivy Bridge CPUs without any issues regardless the BIOS version shown on the CPU support list.
However, it is highly recommended that you perform BIOS update to the latest version once the system is up and running for best result.
    Sincerely,
    Warner

Read the ReleaseNotes_9.4.0.1026.htm file inside of the ZIP package.
Just install the driver and don't worry about other things.
It's a "generic" one and includes the libraries for most of the chipsets (including yours).

  • Z77MA-G45 - 3770K Overclock: Cant find CPU voltage settings

So I did have a Z77A-GD65 but that went pop so I had to downgrade to a slightly cheaper board, the Z77MA-G45.  Overclocking seems a lot more convoluted in terms of navigating the BIOS/UEFI, I cant find a menu where I can manually set the CPU Core Voltage.  as standard CPU core Voltage settings only allow:
    Auto
    +0.00
    +0.02
    +0.04
    +0.06
I managed to get to 4GHZ with +0.06V but I know my CPU can easily go to 4.2GHZ and on my old mobo I had it stable on 4.5GHZ.
However a chap on youtube posted a guide which showed if you set the My OCGenie mode to 'Custom' instead of 'Default' then a new dropdown is available with CPU core Voltage settings etc, when I change it to 'Custom' I do indeed see a '> OC Genie' dropdown, but when I open it, its blank!
I must be missing something basic, any help appreciated.

Thanks all, I notice now there are a lot of typos between the Z77A-G45 and Z77MA-G45, of which I have the latter.
To your points it was a cheap board and I knew features would be reduced and have to accept that, the guide I saw although titled Z77MA-G45 was actually for a Z77A-G45 on closer inspection.  I got the cheap board as next year Im looking to go to LGA2011-3 so wanted a minimal investment now as my Z77A-GD65 unexpectedly failed.
4GHZ is just fine, if thats what my money pays for, Im a happy camper.

  • MSI Z77ma-g45 no powerup

my z77ma-g45 was working fine till i reseated the  heatsink now it does not seem to want to power up. I have done a full teardown and rebuild, swapped ram(8G|CRUCIAL BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0) , checked the cpu (I5 3570) in another mobo (another z77ma-g45). swapped psu. removed all addin cards and cables. no beeps no lights.... no signs of damage or burns  marks on the mobo, no bent pins (when swapped heat sinks nothing else was removed). any ideas?
    edit~~~~~~~
so after working on this for two days i post here, and while waiting i decide to try one more thing, i move the cpu fan to sysfan1, and the disconnected sysfan1 to the cpu header, boom powers up.... turn it back off swap them, works again....
I choose to believe the people in this forum are wizards, and from afar fixed what ever was stopping the power on... thank you

So now everything seems to be working fine, but when you are in windows, if you leave the computer at idle it crashes?
For now, go into uefi bios and hit f6 for optimized defaults.
    Hit f10 save and exit.
Once you have entered the os, open cpuz and post screen shots of the spd tabs of each memory stick installed and the memory tab. (You can open multiple instances of cpuz and take 1 screen shot.)
*When you do this the bios will default to achi mode remember.

  • MSI Z77MA-G45 limited Bios settings

    Hi everyone,
I recently got a new motherboard for my 3770K, an MSI Z77MA-G45 and updated the Bios to Version 1.9.
I am a bit frustrated with this board because it doesn't provide some essential settings for overclocking:
    - Cannot set the Turbo multipliers, it only allows to change the base frequency ones
    - It won't let me specify custom Vcore voltages. It only allows me to select between a few offset values (+0.02, +0.04, +0.06)
Are the above limitations normal for the CPU+Board+BiosVersion combination?
I have seen on the web others with exactly the same board or the Z77A-G45, that provide lots of extra settings.
Is there an option in the Bios that would unlock extra settings ?
FYI, "Adjust CPU ratio in OS" is disabled.
    Thank you!

  • No crossfire on Z77MA-G45 with 2 x HD5770 Hawk

    Hi,
I recently bought a Z77MA-G45 for my wife to get some more life out of my dual MSI Radeon HD5770 Hawk setup while still managing to squeeze it into her mATX case (it has swarovski crystals on it, so swapping it out was a no-go...). For some reason though, only the GPU in the primary PCIe-slot works, the second is not detected.
I have tried swapping the cards around, swapping the power connectors around to no avail, whichever card is in the first slot, only that one will work, however it does work flawlessly as a single GPU-setup with no issues whether or not both cards are installed. I also tried updating the BIOS to v1.9, and tried with the PCIe Gen 3 setting both to "Auto" and "Disable", neither works.
Would anyone here have any insight as to what is going on? My guess is the motherboard somehow does not detect that I have 2 GPU's installed, and therefore does not split the PCIe lanes to both slots, but if this is the case, I cannot find any way of forcing the board to do so.
    Thank you in advance,
    Preben

Now if only all my computer problems could be fixed with a magnifying glass and a darning needle...
Thank you very much for the tip, the offending pin has been brought back in the fold, and both cards work perfectly at PCIe 2.0x8 as expected - in fact with a CPU upgrade, that setup is benchmarking a lot better than I would have expected...

  • Z77MA-G45 and Radeon 7850 Incompatibility?

    Hi Folks,
I helped a friend pick out components, and build, his first PC.
    Intel i3 3225
    16gb G.Skill Ripjawz CL9 DDR3 1600
    XFX Radeon 7850
    MSI Z77MA-G45
    Thermaltake TR2 500W
I have tried updating to the latest MSI official BIOS for the motherboard (1.9). I have installed a Radeon 4870 I had lying around (it draws 166W compared to the 105W of the 7850), the display works with the 4870 video card, onboard video also works. However the 7850 does not work. I have tried every bios setting related to video or PCI-Express; the PCI-Express 3.0 option to both Auto and Disabled. I have set the options for IGD and PEG, and tried both. Voltages coming from the power supply are within spec. No pins are bent, the CPU is installed correctly, and the HS is seated properly. Temps are in the 40Cs for the CPU and in the 30Cs for the Motherboard.
All signs at this point, suggest the video card being at fault, however, upon returning to the store it was purchased, the tech tested the card in their test bench, and proclaimed it worked fine. The question I have is: Is there some kind of incompatibility at work here? I know there is an "added more VGA compatibility" to the release notes on the BIOS updates, is it simply that I need to wait for a new BIOS revision for the motherboard to get this card to work?
Thanks in advance for any potential solutions anyone can throw my way.

well as there are 2 parts that have to work together it could be either! unless the video card can be updated as it may just be that it can't be excluded!
as the board works with another graphics card and that the graphics card works in a test bench then it will more then likely be the VBIOS being Incomparable on the HD7850 (thats quite common)! do you have someone you know that may be willing to let you try it in there machine thats possible something like a 1155socket or even a AMD socketed board (AM3, AM3+, FM1 or FM2) thats got PCI-E gen 2 compatible slots on it?

  • Z77MA-G45 OC

As my specs state I have the Z77MA-G45 MB and am using an I5 3330 Ivy cpu. I didn't go with a 3570K because I did not plan to oc. Now that I have ran it for three weeks and it is completely stable I decided to play with the bios settings. I enable turbo boost enhanced following the oc thread with ss's. I can run it at 3.6 turbo and ran a game BF3 to monitor it. It runs stable and temps only went up to upper 40's c. and lower 50'sC. I'm running my ram at XMP profile 1600.
If I add a better cooler, I'm using intel stock now, do you think I could get more out of it, or is that pretty much it since it's a non k? I'm curious as 600mhz is a modest oc, but feels pretty zippy. Is it just a placebo effect? or does it really benefit performance at 3.6Ghz?
Thanks for any advice, I have learned a lot from this forum and your a great bunch of guys for helping other users.
I played a few more games, seems to ride closer to 3.5 rather than 3.6.

That would explain why I was having an issue there. OK, I set the CPU core limits to 43 on all 4 cores. And I just figures out where to input the settings for:
    1. Long Duration Power Limit (W) = 77
    2. Long Duration Maintained (S) = 1
    3. Short Duration Power Limit (W) = 96
    4. Primary Plane Current Limit (A) = 1024
    5. Secondary Plane Current Limit (A) = 50
    6. Primary Plane TURBO Power Limit (W) = 0
    7. Secondary Plane TURBO Power Limit (W) = 0
God lord, I have been looking for these setting forever. I never thought to look at /in or use that silly click II Bios program...    I see that you have a BIG window for these settings (0 ~ 255) in most cases. Above shows what my settings are right now. I guess there are default settings. What is recommended or what approach should I use in adjusting these?
WELL, after reading so many different posts and articles on the subject(s) of Power Settings and Theory (So many in fact, I think my eyes will be bleeding for the next several days), I have decided to give these settings a try and see if there is any noticeable difference to this OC payload:
    1. Long Duration Power Limit (W) = 255
    2. Long Duration Maintained (S) = 2
    3. Short Duration Power Limit (W) = 255
    4. Primary Plane Current Limit (A) = 1024
    5. Secondary Plane Current Limit (A) = 50
    6. Primary Plane TURBO Power Limit (W) = 0
    7. Secondary Plane TURBO Power Limit (W) = 0
I'll set my PC up for a 6 hour burn and see how the stability information compares to what we had earlier!

  • Z77MA-G45 3570k OC

I have z77ma-g45 and 3570k to go with it.
I use Hwinfo and CPU-Z for voltage and temp info.
My maximum overclock is 4.3 Ghz with these BIOS settings:
The problem is, although I can even boot into windows 8 with +0.000 CPU Core voltage but after running Prime95 Blend with 6144MB memory usage for 3-4 hours I get Worker 2 stopped "hardware failure roundup 0.5, had to be 0.4" etc error and my Core 1 naturally stops the stress testing while others just continue.
I tried it with +0.0200 and I still got same error on same core and worker 2 stopped.
I tried it with +0.0000 and +0.02000 settings after putting RAM back to stock  full auto and no XMP but still this error surfaced after 3+ hours all the time.
Now I am trying with PLL Overvoltage enabled and +0.0200 and with my Memory overclocked as neither memtest nor windows memory diagnosis tool found errors in my RAM sticks with OC. Have been running for 2 hours with no errors yet.
BUT my max voltage is like 1.288 now @ 4.3 Ghz Prime95 blend test. After 2 hours my max core temp is 77 but the room temp is a bit warm like 25-26 degrees Celcius.
Here is the hwinfo screenshot I just took now
There is no Vdroop, voltage offset or LLC settings on this motherboard as far as I can see. I am on 1.9 version.
When I try 4.4 I can boot into windows but regardless of Turbo OC, Base OC and all voltage settings Prime95 bsods in maximum 1 minute, on most settings it BSODs like in first 5 seconds.
Question is, do I have the worst 3570k ever as I have seen 3570nonK chips reaching 4.1 and 4.3 is pretty miserable for the K version OR is this motherboard crippling the headroom OR am I doing something wrong?
Note: Putting bios back to stock my CPU passed Intel CPU diagnosis tool without any errors, so CPU is healthy I think.
CPU-Z validation while Prime95 has been running in the background for 2+ hours, so voltage is real voltage

It happened, prime gave error with Worker 2, as can be seen in screenshot, it shows starting time too.

Best I get which is within my liking of temp range is 4.2 stable.
After achieving it and testing it as in the image below, I ran IBT 30 more times and Prime95 for few more hours. It was all clear and got no WHEA errors.
After playing BF4 for 50 minutes just now, the max CPU temp was 58C, which I think is fine on air.
I have C1E, EIST, Turbo, C-states, Spread Spectrum, HPET all disabled and memory is on stock voltage and clocks.
Internal PLL is disabled, CPU core voltage setting is at +0.000 V.
Yet the non-vdroop idle voltage is around 1.288 and drops to 1.246-1.258 with vdroop while using IBT or Prime95.
Is the voltage high because of the chip being crappy or because I cannot use any more effective settings like offset and other stuff?

  • Share memory on MSI Z77MA-G45 an 3570k

    Hi all,
I have a MSI Z77MA-G45 mobo and a i5-3570k CPU. I use the integrated graphics.
On the mobo's spec page says that the maximum share memory is 1760MB. I can only set 256MB in the BIOS. Is there something else that I need to change to get more memory available?
On the system I also have installed 2x4GB of Corsair Vengeance memory.

Intel uses DVMT for VGA memory.
You can set a fixed value (up to 256MB) and set the DVMT to maximum if you want.
That should make the system assign up to 1760 MB if needed.
It is dynamic so it only assigns the memory it actually needs.

  • Z77MA-G45 Bios Failure

I tried to update my bios to 7759v16 using the MSIHQ Tool 1.19R9 and failed with a message about the bios being in write only mode. I was able to enter the old bios and tried to enable write mode but could not find such a setting - I was stymied by the many options in  the EFI format and may have missed it. Then I realized that I might need a newer version of the MSIHQ Tool and subsequently found and setup version 1.24h on a usb flash drive.
But now my problem is that I cannot get into the bios or boot the flash drive at all. What I have done many times is - disconnect the power, remove the battery, short the JBAT1 jumper and wait several minutes. After  this procedure is reversed the board then boots to a simple screen (see attachment) that lists the Motherboard bios version , amount and type of memory, processor type and detected drives. It is interesting that the mouse or MSIHQ usb flash drive is not listed even though the led on the drive is lit.
This screen says that the bios has been set to its default values. Hitting either F1 or F2 as instructed  will trigger a reset and send the power supply and motherboard into a continuous "power-up for a moment-then shut off cycle" with nothing displayed on the monitor. This cycling will continue indefinitely.
I'm not sure what else to do.  Any ideas?

  • White Macbook 2006 random shutdown solved removed cpu heatsink and more

I picked up a cheap macbook from a secondhand retailer for $300 and it regularly shutdown, froze, restarted as well as the grey kernel panic screen completely random no real pattern. I set about trying to solve the problem swapping ram and hard drive with my identical 2006 macbook (which I had similar problems with last year, fixed that one with a new battery connector cable). The ram and hard drive made no difference so I downloaded istat menus to see if any combination of cpu voltage, current and temperature were causing the random shutdowns. It seemed when the temperature reached certain values the computer would shutdown or freeze(around 30 to 50 degrees). I'd read on other forums about faulty cpu temperature diodes so I reapplied heatsink compound to the cpu heatsink and checked all the wiring for shorts but nothing seemed to solve the problem. I was ready to retire the computer and use it for spares for my other macbook when needed but I pulled the keyboard off one more time and tried something completely radical. This fix requires some forward planning and software installation but it has completely solved my Random shutdowns completely.
for instructions see my next post *Fix for random shutdowns white macbook*

Ok this is not for the non technical person but it is quite a simple process with the right instructions.
This first step is very important install the software coolbook($10) and fan control (Free)( not smc fan control). Set up coolbook to operate the cpu at the lowest speed and voltage for both power adapter and battery(1002MHz and .95Volts). Remove the keyboard to access the computer logic board (instructions can be found at iFixit). Remove the four screws and two connectors holding the heatsink to the logicboard and gently lift the heatsink out (very important that you leave the fan screwed in and connected). Close the computer back up if you wish to test just gently connect the keyboard and loosly sit the keyboard back in. Restart and reset the pram immediately. Let the computer boot up and then open system preferences and configure Fan Control to your liking. So far no random shutdowns for over a week (was getting many a day previously.
