Z77Z-GD65 + i3770S optimal BIOS settings?

Hi,
I just assembled my new build with Z77A-GD65 MB + i3770S CPU + 8 GB G.Skill Sniper (1.25V) RAM + 2 SSDs & 1 HDD (using Integrated Graphics).
My goal is to keep power consumption as low as possible 95% of the time, but kick into higher speed when needed for photo processing, etc.
No Overclocking, but would like Intel Turbo Boost active.
1)   If I enable Eco mode power saving features, will Turbo Boost still operate as needed?
2)   I don’t have to select either Eco Mode – Standard Mode – or OC Genie Mode before booting?  I’m assuming all 3 modes work when needed?
3)What about Intel C-States?  I’ve read about many BSODs using C-states & OC-ing, but nothing for normal frequencies.   Has anyone found optimal C-State settings that work with EuP 2013, C1E, and Turbo Boost?
Any other recommendations?
Thanks!
P

I agree, Optimized defaults + C1E should be good enough for what you planning. C-States Auto or No Limits will do. Also you can monitor in real time with Intel Power Gadget.

  • K7N2-L Most Optimized Bios Settings Required Please!

    Hiya!
Any kind souls out there who can provide the best and most optimized BIOS setting for this board? Previously I recalled lots of nice people helping with their settings
    Thank You!!
    Benedict

Having now read the excellent post by klondike on this board I want to update my bios to the 11.50 (B50) version.
I know about all the dangers of updating your bios but as I am having prob’s with my board and it seems like the B5 bios is better that the B4, I want to update it but I have tried now for 2 hours to update it and I am obviously doing something very wrong and it is doing my head in!
I have read the MSI guide to bios updating and others on this forum but I can’t get anything to even start to work.
I have downloaded and un-zipped the B50 bios update for my board. I have put the unzipped files in a folder in the C: drive I have named “test” I have made a dos floppy and set my bios to 1st boot floppy but when I boot to it at the A prompt you type C: (and enter) and it says bad file or command (I can’t remember which) so I then tried burning the bios files to a cd and once again after booting to the dos there is no option to get it to boot or find the cd drive you just get the A: prompt
I have also tried updating it though live update but live update says the latest version is 11.4 (B4) and that is what my board already has so I can’t update it from there as MSI have not updated their live update page.
I am almost at my wits end and feel like setting light to the dam thing, all I want to do is up date my bios its not that hard I have done it before on other pc’s but I can’t remember how I did it! (thats my age)
Please can someone spare me a few minutes to talk me though this.

  • Optimal bios settings for MSI KT400 V board, ms-6712

Is there a list of all the bios settings (not the normal manual, which came with the board), that are the best safest for this motherboard.
I have this board with a 2400 Athlon CPU.
Already flashed to the latest bios (i think 1.6..)
    Happy X-mas.. :D

optimal settings are hard to pinpoint for a board because of the individual hardware.  Some RAM can be run at aggressive timings like 2-2-5-2 with 4 way bank interleave/1T timings/Ultra Timings.  Other's cannot.
AGP seems to be the best at 128mb aperture, fast writes enabled (if vid card supports it, nVidia's do).
    PCI Busmaster enabled
32bit transfer mode enabled for the hard drives
    System bios cacheable disabled
the list could go on but it's really a matter of trial and error.

  • Optimal Bios settings....

Good to see the forum back up....
I have a k7n420 pro based system and just stuck in a gainward GF4 TI4200 golden sample, which is working out brilliantly, I mean 3dmarks around 9065! with standard fsb etc etc.
Anyway I saw a review of the card with a very similar system (same 1800 xp processor, 512 meg ddr memory, different mobo) and assuming they hadn't overclocked anything, they were getting 1K over my marks. I don't think that the different board would make that much difference.
so my question to you all is, what should I be looking at in the BIOS to ensure the board is running optimally at NORMAL clock speeds? I've seen settings for agp apature size etc and have no idea what effect they have to overall performance with an agp card. any ideas?
    thanks for any advice
    Rich.

A lot of times reviewers test different hardware configs with an immediate clean install of windows.  You would not think it but the more apps (junk)you have that steal your ram and hard drive space will also degrade your performance.  I have always found that windows os's are a heck of a lot speedier without all this junk, XP included.  I wonder also alot of time that reviewers may get hand picked pieces to be reviewed, they use better quality ram in their machines than most of us.  The absolute worst thing you can do, though,  is download synthetic bench's like sandra and try to compare your performance to the samples of performance of a given setup.
    Sandra is a freeking liar.
Ram timings are also a potential performance boost, but I don't think they would be worth 1000 marks.
Anyway, man, don't fret.  At least it ain't crashing.

  • Optimal Bios Settings? K7N2 Delta

I would like to Optimize my Boards settings.
    Running 2100+ chip
    400FSB Ram
When my computer boots up it says DDR something 300.
Does this mean its not running at 400FSB?  Or does 400FS really matter?
Also I have 2 sticks of Ram should I have them in Slot 1 and 2 ?
Manual said something about Slot 1/3 and Slot 2/3 for Dual 128bit mode or something.. Does it make a difference?
    Thanx!

2100 is 266fsb and with memory at 400fsb set bios to fsb/dram ratio to 1:1 this will slow memory to the same as processor for stable, or just set to 200 fsb in bios, may cause problems, duel channel then slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 3 don't matter if it not duel channel then any but best in 1 and 2.
slot 3 being green 1 and 2 purple.

  • Optimal Bios settings For A64 3200

If anyone could help me out with all the settings in the bios to get the most out of my comp without the overclocking please could you give me some help.
    My system is as follows:
    Athlon 64 3200
    Msi K8t neo fis2r
    512 infineron pc3200
    Visiontek Geforce2 Ultra 64
    plus all the standard equip.
What i need help on is some of these options arent really apparent to me on what they do.  Hell I cant even find out if the ram is running at ddr400.  I dont suspect that it is because i expected to get much better then 6200 in 3dmark01.  I also was wondering with the hyper transport.. do you need 2 sticks of ram like intels version.. or am I way off base?
This isnt the first system Ive built.. but this is the first bios that has confused the hell out of me.. i just cant seem to get what im looking for.  Thanks in advance.
also.. just let me know if im supposed to be scoring around 6200.. but i would sure hope not because my old 1.2 tbird got 4000.
    almost forgot teh psu
its a generic 300 watter with
    3.3 -14a
    5    -25a
    12  -10a

    Dude...
You need to seriously rethink your system components.
    Your PSU:
    " a generic 300 watter with
    3.3 -14a
    5 -25a
    12 -10a "
I wouldnt have even thought about using that in a new system.. Risk damaging everything. You should have AT LEAST 20amps on the 12v line.. let alone.. more than a 300 watt power supply. Make this your FIRST upgrade, and I suggest not using your computer with it.
    Graphics card:
Ok.. you have a top of the line processor.. with a seriously outdated graphics card.
Its no wonder why you are getting 6000 in 3dmark 01, heck, Im surprised you even got that. Its obvious your video card is the bottleneck. Get a new one, and watch your scores shoot up.
The problem has nothing to do with your bios.
Seriously get a new PSU, and fast. Its generic, its 300 watts, and it has 10 amps on the 12v line.
Everyone that posts after me is going to say the same exact thing.
Edit: And oh yeah... The ram is most likely running at its normal speed, unless you told it to run lower. Plus, even if it was running at slower and you increased it, you wouldnt see a HUGE HUGE HUGE increase that you seem to be hoping for. Its the vid card... and I cant stress enough on how much you need a new PSU.

  • Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM

    G'evening!
I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3.  Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes.  I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
First question:  Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
2nd question:  If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest?  The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
And if I still have your attention...
The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner.  Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS.  After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized.  My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive.  Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board.  Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink.  Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).
Thanks for any advice you can give me.  It's been a bit of time since I built a computer and I'm sure there's alot of basic things I'm relearning along with the fact that the Athlon 64 is fairly new technology.  On the other hand, when it's running smoothly...

Cant offer anything on the Timing, (sorry as I am Intel Fodder ), But I can assure you that the Zalman 7000-AlCu, Will Indeed Fit onto your Motherboard (With Room To Spare!) :biggthumbsup:I can attest to this because My buddy just installed the Zalman 7000-AlCu on his K8T ....And He loves it! As do I ....It's about the only thing that we have in common as far as PC'S Go .........Sean REILLY875

  • Ideal BIOS Settings for online gaming

this is my 1st computer that i built. i have a lot of experience in wiring high-end electronics, so wiring this little rig with barely any visible wires/cables was a breeze. I bought the processor/mobo with the intention of only doing minor O/C as i dont really know all that much on the hardware side of improving performance. with that said, i've searched for timings and settings for my specific combination, and i cant find any. again, i dont really want to push the config past a safe level, as i will be selling this machine when the 64's come down in price. can someone help me set the proper frequencies/timings? i have a lot to learn, and even in the normal bios settings i don't know if certain things should be enabled or disabled for my main purpose, which is to simply play 3D online games very  fast. i will be changing out the GeforceFX5200 PCI for a 5600 AGP in a week or so. I'm noticing that my old Comcrap PIII 1.0Ghz w/512SDRAM with this video card gets just as good a ping ingame as this rig does. the machine starts quickly, runs offline programs quickly, but online it isnt as fast as i'd hoped. from what i've read in the other forums, there are many settings in the bios that are enabled by default that don't need to be. can someone help me decipher which settings are useful and which are not. i loosely understand some of the settings but if someone could help with the questions below and/or do a walkthru for bios geared toward gaming i'd really appreciate it. The machine runs very cool (CPU 104*F/SYS 93*F) but i dont know what else needs adjustment. I simply want to make this machine go as fast and as hard as it can with the right config. i don't want to unlock the processor yet or do anything else major at this point.
1: Best yet safe Voltage for my processor and RAM
    2: FSB clock; 133 or 166? had problems @ 200
    3: S.M.A.R.T. on or off?
4: Best IRQ/PCI slot for video card
5: "GoodMEM" utility: how much should i safely allot?
    6: Video BIOS Cacheable?
    7: Multiplier setting for K7N2DeltaL & XP2600+
8: VGA Aperture (my card is 128MB but PCI. upgrading soon)
i'll be learning more as i go along, so i dont really need a full explanation of what's what, lol THIS TIME. all i need is a rundown where someone tells me what to leave alone, and what to change for a very fast yet safe gaming rig

    OK I'm officially confused.
I bought the retail boxed AthlonXP2600+, which clearly states on the packaging "With 333 MHZ Frontside Bus". i bought the board over others, one reason being it supported 400MHz FSB. I go into "Advanced Chipset Features" and when i set the "System Performance" to "Manual", i can then go into the "CPU FSB Clock" settings, but the max it will allow me to go to is 233MHz (which won't boot and i have to flip the jumpers. when i had set it to 200MHz before, it failed to boot as well... PLEASE can someone look over these settings and tell me the OPTIMAL settings for taking this combo as fast as it can go w/o overclocking? What am i doing wrong? what multiplier do i need to be at. I'm under the impression that the combo works best when the clock speed of the board is at the same speed as the processor. here are the  BIOS settings with which i need advice:

I do currently have a PCI GeForceFX5200 8o, but im getting an AGP FX5600 this week. i know my card has nothing to do with AGP, but i've left most of the AGP settings alone since i'll be using it later. is this creating a bottleneck or tying up system memory to have it this way for now?

  • In Depth guide to BIOS settings. and Mouse/UEFI woes

I'm wondering if there is any on-line in-depth guides to the BIOS settings. I have a P67A-GD65 B3 and the documentation is pitiful. I am not interested at this point in overclocking, but I do want to optimize BIOS to get maximum performance and boot times. I want to disable any unnecessary items (such as 1394 support and Marvel SATA controller) and disable all that green energy stuff.
Also, I just flashed my UEFI from a  V1B to V1E, and now, my mouse in BIOS is worthless. It jumps all over the screen and all settings need to be made with the keyboard. My mouse is just a Microsoft Natural wireless laser. It worked fine in V1B.
    My Specs are:
    CPU: i7-2600K
    RAM: 8Gb Corsair
    Video: GeForce GTX 560 Ti

A search of the net may point to some. Flash back to v1.B unless v1.E addressed a specific reason for flashing in the first place. Recommend to contact MSI Tech Support & advise them of the issue experienced with v1.E; http://support.msi.com/

but since this usually involves resetting the BIOS to factory default, I would first like to find a utility which will 'print out' all of my current settings. The only methods I know of are: writing them by hand and taking photos of the screen - and neither is ideal.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but writing down the settings that deviate from the optimized default settings you can load in BIOS should not take you longer than a minute or two to write down (if you can't remember them).  I doubt that the number of your personalized/deviating settings exceeds 10-15, which is not really that much to write down in abbreviated form.

  • Strange BIOS settings...

I just acquired another MSI board (this time it's the 5th one) and this one is a MSI K8NGM-V.
I just browsed around in the AMIBIOS settings and found all these hypertransport settings.
The one with the NB -> Processor is 800MHz
The one with the NB -> Bridge (let me find this out) is 800MHz
And there's the 8 up (sorry cannot draw the Up arrow) and the 8 down and the stuff like that.
I accidently resetted my BIOS so the settings are already a bit mixed up.
Which is the best Hypertransport config for an AMD Sempron 3000+ Palermo E6 core?

    Hello !!
Load the optimized Bios defaults, save, and reenter Setup to make your individual settings.
Those numbers you see ( 1000mhz, 800mhz, 600mhz...) are the multiplikators for the original 200mhz FSB.
If you select 600mhz, the multiplikator will be 3 because 600:200=3 and so on. If you would select 800mhz and overclock FSB to 250 this would match perfect cause 800:200=4 and 4x250mhz=1000mhz for example.
The HT Link is specificated to 1000mhz so stay in that limits.
    Select 16|16 as Link widht.

  • X60 factory and recommended BIOS settings?

Service guy changed some BIOS settings from factory default said it saves some energy and reduces CPU heat. My system overheated, previous service forgot to clean the inside, congratulations.
So my question is what are recommended BIOS settings for the X60, recommended changes from default? Service guy forgot to tell me what he changed so if I reset I can't get back to the settings he  implemented.
So preferably I would need the original settings printed, too, so I can compare it with the changes.

    Thanks for the reply.
The BIOS shows the modules are running at 1333.
The Weird thing is I had many BSOD problems before I changed the voltage and on SevenForums I was advised to run Run Memtest86+.
I runned Memtest86+ run a few times for over 8 hours and it showed no errors at all.

I wanted to find out if msi has a toll free tech support number or what their number is for tech support? it's not listed on the web site that I could find nor is it in their motherboard manual.

I'm going to get new ram though more then likely. It'll be ddr pc3200, either from crucial or who is good? 1gb in 2 512mb sticks.

Load Optimal Default seems OK for most. You may need to change those peripherals settings such as enable/disable RAID, 1394 etc. The rest leave as it is.
