Z800 dual processor Booting Problem

Hi there,
I got a Z800 dual processor ,  I tried to operate the motherboard with CPU 1 only without installing CPU 0. now when I turn on the device. the fan of the case spin at maximum and RAM fan doesn't spin. besides bios screen not loading. is that mean my motherboard is gone. or could be bios got corrupted.
Thanks

  • Dual processor boot problems

I have had the k8t master 2 far running well with one processor, i recently installed the second and now the system wont boot at all, when you power on the psu and press the system on button the fans both case and cpu spin for a second and then shutdown. The system does not respond despite flashing bios.
I have taken taken the second processor out and the system works fine, maybe not enough power from the 480w tagan? both power cables are ssi and connected.
if you have any suggestions i would be grateful for any assistance as i am completely stumped. TIA

yes both processors are 242 1.6mghz
doesnt make much sense does it?

  • G4 Dual 450 Boot Problem

Ive been reading other issues that others have been having. Ive got a 450 agp that I upgraded to a dual 450. I hadnt used it in a while and when I tried using it again, it would cut on, but no video, startup sound or light on button. Before I read the help column, I ordered another processor and heatsink thinking that was the problem. I installed the new processor and the cpu would start but had some issues. So I took everything off to test the other motherboard and when I re-hook up the new board; Nothing happened. The no light on power, no sound or video issue happens.
Ive looked up and performed the reset cuda, pram process numerous times for nothing to happen. I even bought a new battery, and stripped the motherboard down to nothing; waited 30 minutes and followed the reinstall procedure given and still nothing. Now maybe once is ok, but 2 motherboards and 2 processor is unlikely. Anyone experienced similar and can help???

    Hi-
To be clear, what model motherboard are you using?
What CPU are you trying to use?
Have you tested the PSU (power supply) for power?

  • Urgent : UI refresh problem on dual processor or hyper threaded machine

    Hello,
I am developing an applet that displays a set of tabs to the user. Each tab contains JLists.
When user selects from any of the JList(s), all lists are updated to reflect what is still available for selection. Number of elements in the list can be as large as few hundred thousands. This all works fine on single processor machine.
However, when running same on dual processor or Intel hyperthreaded processor, lists are not updated correctly. What I meant is that, for example, if a list originally has 100 thousands elements in it, then when I select an element from it, list is updated with available elements.Assume there are only 2 thousand elements available after above selection.Everything is fine so far, but when I de-select my selection, list is suppose to be updated again with original 100 thousands elements displayed again. The real problem is list indeed gets updated properly but few elements from list are not visible on the screen. However, If I minimize the browser(as it is an applet) and restore it again, all elemnets within the list are displayed correctly. Any help will be highly appreciated.

When your JLIst refresh occurs, the items are loaded into the JList from some other Object right? Nt knowing more about your code, I can't say exactly what that would be.Yes, you are right. Let me explain in breif about the architecture of the code.
I have a class, say CatPanel, that extends from JPanel and has BorderLayout with JList (wrapped in JScrollPane) in the center.
The main GUI class controls all such CatPanels. So, when the list is to be updated, GUI class invokes a method from CatPanel with Vector of elements to be inserted as an argument. Elements are inserted using setListData method of the JList.
If I'm right, the this might explain the behavior you are seeing. In a single processor environment, the data >is not cahced and therefore everything is fine. When you go to the dual-processor machine, the threads >have their own caches and are not always in sync. When you mimize the window and restoer it, this could >trigger a resync of the cache. Is there a way to trigger such synchronization?
One thing I'm not sure about is, when you return to the 'main' list, do you still see the selected sublist or >the main list with some elements missing? When a list is updated as a result of de-selection, few elements from start of the list are not visible.
I can see all other elements by using ScrollBar. So, if there are some selections that belong to the begining portion of the list, then selected sublist is not visible.
Let me explain with following example. Assume that with current selection, I have 100 elements in the list and all of them are visible on the screen. Now as a result of de-selection, suppose now the list should contain 200 elements rather than 100 elements. So, what happens in this case is that if first 50 elements are not visible in the list then I can see blank space corresponding to first 50 elements at the start of the list followed by remaining elements. I tried overloading paint method of an element that is actually inserted into the list, but still the result is same.

  • What is causing a PowerMac G5/2.3GHz Dual Processor sudden abrupt shutdowns

    Hi all
I am posting in hope that someone out there can help me solve this very puzzling problem.
The machine: A PowerMac dual processor G5/2.3GHz (early 2005). 1.5G RAM. 250G HD. SuperDrive. Radeon 9650.
The problem: When under some load, this machine will suddenly and abruptly shutdown as though someone pulled the power cord. There is no warning. Just a soft click, and it powers off. The machine can be manually restarted after the sudden shutdown with no problems.
This problem is very replicable. (eg go to a particular website, play an embedded video, and boom, the machine shutsdown. Each and every time.) It was replicated at an Apple Store and at two Apple Authorized Service Providers.
System.log said "PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122"
Before the sudden shutdown, the machine seemed to be operating normally. The fans did not noticeably speed up. Activity Monitor showed no more than 50% CPU activity for each CPU. Temperature on both CPU was around at 70C before the sudden shutdown. Temperature and activity on both CPU goes up and down in tendem.
If I use the Energy Saver system preference to change "Processor performance" to "Reduced", the problem goes away. (As measured by going to the same website and playing the same video. Even playing 5 videos simultaneously did not cause a sudden shutdown.)
What have I done #1: I have reformat the hard drive with a 7-pass security wipe, followed by a clean-install of Tiger which was then brought up-to-date using Software Update. I then installed Safari 4.0.3. No other software is on the machine except Tiger and Safari. (Later installed Hardware Monitor to get me a handle on the temperatures.) The problem persisted.
What have I done #2: I then installed a new PRAM battery and reset PMU using the switch on the motherboard. Resetting the PMU also resetted the PRAM. The problem persisted.
What have I done #3: I then took the machine to an Apple Store. They found that they can replicate the problem easily. But, after 3 days of running the Apple Service Diagnostic, the diagnostic software didn't find any problem. They also did a thermal re-calibration. That didn't help either. Without an error code from the diagnostic software, the only "solution" the Apple Genius offered was to start swapping CPU, power supply and mother board at my expense. And even then, he has no idea which component to start swapping first. (Two independent Apple Authorized Service Providers offered the same non-diagnosis and roughly the same "solution".)
Has anyone encountered such a problem before? What was the solution?
How about an educated guess as to what's wrong?
I want to, if possible, and if reasonable, repair this machine.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lara

This sounds almost exactly like the problem I have. My G5 is also an Early 05 2.3G. I tried every tip I found on the forums from UPS vs. wall socket to stock RAM vs. 3rd party to booting from external HDs, etc.. I currently have 10.5.8 on it and it's running using the "Reduced" processor setting in Energy Saver prefs.
I have also made a trip to The Apple Store where the AS folks ran their diagnostics but were usable to replicate my problem. I understand they "can't fix it if it ain't broke".
Aside from the "Reduced" setting work-around has ANYONE actually solved this problem definitively? Although I have no interest in spending $1000 to fix this, I can't imagine disposing of it on Ebay.
Assuming this is a hardware issue, this would mark the first insurmountable failure of any of the 10 or so Macs I have owned.
    Anyone? Anyone?

  • Need? firmware update on 1.8GH Dual processor G5 PwrMac for Tiger upgrade.

Equipment: refurbed 1.8Ghz PowerMac Dual processor, running OS10.3.9 Panther just fine. CPU's: PowerPC 970 (2.2); Bus speed: 900MHz. Boot Rom: 5.1.4fo
I read on Forums of problems some single processor 1.8 G5's have had with firmware updates prior to attempting to run OS 10.4.3 . I was about to install Tiger 10.4.3, now wonder if it will open a can of worms if I update firmware prior to the install. The reported problems were on machines with bus speed of 600mHz; as mine has a 900mHz bus speed, am I not likely to encounter that difficulty? I would appreciate any input from those familiar with this issue. Sounded like some of the affected owners were really stuck for a long time with that particular problem. Thanks.

Since you did not specify which particular model you have, it's hard to tell you whether a firmware update is even required. Open System Profiler and in the summary look for the Machine Model. If it's 7,2 then 5.1.4 is the current firmware version. If it's 7,3, then 5.1.8 is the current firmware version.

  • HELP! Dual processors not seen. What happened to them?

I have a twofold problem, both on AGP Graphics machines with the Sawtooth boards. I purchased mine used about a year ago and it came with a dual 550 processor upgrade installed. It works great, but somewhere recently, maybe after my latest upgrade (10.4.8) I checked my system profiler and it now shows the processors as dual 500s. It used to say dual 550. Any idea where the other 50s went? Could this be a glitch in the OS that doesn't allow it to see the the extra gHz? I may try zapping the PRAM, but do you think it's because of the software? I'm baffled. The other part of my problem is I just upgraded the other AGP machine with a dual 500 from a gigabit ethernet unit. It showed up fine as a dual 500 in the profiler. Then I swapped in a 160 gig internal and popped the OS on it and relegated the smaller, second internal into a storage drive, erasing the OS on that one. After doing that, it just shows up in the profiler as a single 500. Weird. I've never heard of a dual processor losing half and still work fine on the other. As I said before, it was showing up fine until I installed Tiger on the new drive, transfered the info from the previous system via the installer, and now, only one processor shows. Any ideas or suggestions for both machines? Particularly the one missing the entire half of the processor? Thanks!
    G4 Dual 550   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.2 GB RAM, 380 GB Storage, DVD Burner/Handy Slide-Out Cup Holder, USB2, TV Tune

I am having the same problem. I have a 160GB drive I've been using for years with 10.3 installed. Took that one out and started fresh with 2 160GB drives (one WD and one Maxtor, both 8GB cache)and set them up as "concatenated" RAID set in Disk Utility (while booted from Tiger disc). Installed Tiger, only shows ONE 450mhz processor in Activity Monitor and System Profiler. And it's definitely only running one processor because my Mac is running VERY slow. I went back to the original 160GB drive running 10.3x and everything is fine, 2 450mhz processors showing and fast as ever.
I've been searching apple support, google and the like but no answers. PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks, Eric

  • I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, which has re-booting problems. Also what does the spinning beach-ball indicate?

Hi, I have an early 2008 Mac Pro which has re-booting problems.
    Processor speed is: 2.8
    Memory: 2GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    2 x 28GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
I am running OSX Yosemite Version 10.10
My Mac Pro keeps re-booting. Last year I had to replace my graphics card. My original card was the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 255MB, and that is what I have now. At this precise moment my Mac Pro is running perfectly, except that it is slow and the spinning beach-ball keeps appearing. I have managed to do some work with the disk utilities, verifying, cleaning and partitioning. Some errors were found and when it was cleaned this seemed to help my Mac Pro to function properly. Although I am able to use my Mac Pro now, from day to day I still experience re-boot problems. Also quite unexpectedly my mac dictionary has an error, it closed itself down and will not open at all, I had the message to say that a report will be sent to Apple.
I have tried starting my computer with an external hard drive fitted via a USB cable, I use for back-ups. This worked and I was able to wipe my hard drive clear and replace all info from the back up I had done only a few days ago.
This worked for a few days and then the same problem started again.
I am beginning to wonder if I need to buy a new hard drive.
If there is anyone who has some answers to help me solve my problem, I would be most grateful.
    Robert

When you have the beachball activity, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • A very strange boot problem not yet found in the User Forums

    Hi
I know you guys are fed up with all the booting problems, but this one is the strangest one I've yet come across.
I'm putting a PC together to function as an extra render for my 3D animations. Here is the specs as follows.
    865PE Neo2-P Mobo
    Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz Processor
2 x 256 DDR 400MHz Memory modules (two of the exact same make and model)
    300w PSU
    60GB HDD Maxdor
    nVidia nForce 5600
    here is the problem.
It goes past the post, but then the system stops there. It does not go to boot at all.
In the top of the screen below the memory testing and above the HDD and DVD Ram listings it displays as follows:
DEL -> Bios, F12 - Boot Menu etc.
when i press any of keys listed there, that line changes accordingly to the function I selected.
I can get into the BIOS.
But the Motherboard does not boot any further, it just stays there.
I tried diffrent memory, CPU, Powersupply etc, but to no avail.
(I disabled the QUICK BOOT options to see what problems it may give, but it lists none what so ever.)
On the motherboard, where the DIMM2 starts and the MSI CoreCell chip, to above the IDE1 connector to the full length of the IDE connectors, it looks like the transistors/chips connections has a kind of plaque, it does not shine like the rest. Could that be the problem? How can I clean it?
Please help, this is sort of urgent!!!!!!

    Disconnect hard & optical drives........
    Power up system.
Do you still have freeze on post? (Start up)
I would also concur with Bas, 300w psu no go.
Intel P4 478 2.4 and above Northwood processors are very power hungry. You would be advise to look for PSU with at least 24amps on the +12V rail....... (Enermax 465 and some 365's or the new Corsair VX 450)

  • CHUD on a dual processor MDD running Leopard (10.5.8)

I finally got around to installing CHUD today and am wondering if some of you folks who have used it for a while might have some easy answers to a few questions.
I first tried version 3.5.2. It installed, but I couldn't adjust any of the settings. I then read on japamac's site that some MDD's could use 4.4.4. I installed that version and it does work (In fact, I'm posting this with one processor tied behind my back). However, there does not seem to be an option for nap mode.
Also, after I toggle between single an dual processor mode a few times, performance in dual mode seems to take a big hit. A restart solves the problem, but I'm wondering if this is normal.
Is there any way to get nap mode to work in a dual cpu MDD running 10.5.8?
Is there any way to get it to stay in single CPU mode when it wakes from sleep?
I read through the discussions at xlr8yourmac before posting this. It appears that some people have been able to get nap mode to work under Leopard, but they are not always careful to mention exactly which version of Leopard and CHUD they are using.

    Hi-
When installing CHUD, it is also necessary to run CHUD remover to deinstall previous installations.
If not deinstalled, odd stuff happens.
3.5.2 is the one for dual processors.
Other versions have mixed dual processor support.
This is one of the claims that 4.4.4 works, but I have lingering doubts

I may need to edit my blog page.....
It takes a script for automatic Nap enabling in a dual processor machine with 3.5.2.

  • Boot problems

I have a HP Pavillion 753n with a FIC D33007 VG31-L Motherboard. This board will not boot and when powered on emits a 3 sec. beep tone that repeats. I have tried replacing the memory chips and the hard disk with no luck. Anything else I can try?

Hello DSkates, The Pavillion 753n model number you listed does not show up in the HP Drivers section of the web page, but can be found  Here . The correct Model number should be Pavilion 753n.
Here  is a link for some of the beep codes for some HP systems.
It appears the code you mention may be related to system memory.
You could try and perform a memory check for faulty memory, or remove all the memory modules, and insert one at a time, in the slot nearest the processor, boot the system and see if the beep occurs.
Continue this process until you have tried all the memory modules.

  • How to be sure g5 is dual processor

How can I be sure my G5 is a dual processor 2.7 or 2.8ghz? That's how it was advertised when I bought it, but in about this mac this is what shows:
    powermac G5, 9.1
    power pc G5 3.0
    cpus 1
    cpu speed 1.8ghz
    l2 cache per cpu 512mb
    memory 3gb
    bus speed 600mgz
    boot rom version 5.2.2f2
    help!
    thanks

You are probably not going to be pleased by the true specs on the machine, but here are two sources:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP67
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/stats/powermac_g5_1.8_2.html
That machine would be considerably slower than either the 2.3 or 2.7 dual processor models in many tasks.
You can also check out the configuration label which is located inside the side panel directly below the air deflector.
Representing the machine as the any dual processor model is clearly misrepresentation.

  • "Inconsistent cursor cache. Out of range cursor" error on dual processor multi thread

    I have a C++ with Pro*C++ COM object running on a Win2000 OS on
a dual processor Middleware. The program is being called by a
service in a multi threaded way. An oracle error like ORA-2103
and SQL-02103 will be generated after running the program. We've
tried putting mutex on every SQL statement in Pro*C and it works
but the systems became very very slow. We concluded that the
error might be cause by a collision of threads accessing the
same Table or different tables having foreign constraints. This
is so because the error keeps coming from a statement accessing
Table A and following errors comes from a Table B having a
    foreign key on Table A.
Our only solution now is to put Mutex on Statements accessing
same tables or tables with foreign constraints but this will
make our system run very very slow. I dont know if the problem
is in our Oracle Database because we already upgraded our system
from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7. The wierd thing on this is that the system
is running smoothly without oracle errors on a SINGLE PROCESSOR
Middleware. Hope you can give me any insights on this problem.
