Z820 - Performance Issue

Dears,
 I have a Z820 16GB ( Xeon processor ) and a Dell Precision M4500 8GB ( i7 CPU  @ 2.13 GHz ), in both ,  the operating system is Window 7 64-bit ,
Office 10 is installed in both
While working on Excel files, i have experienced very low performance of Z820 when compared to the Dell M4500
In M4500 , i could open 4 huge excel files ( 55MB each ) and work on them simultaneously with no any problem , no interruption and no ( Not responding message ) , while in the Z820 , i had to force closing the files in many occasions due to ( not responding message in some cases or because the screen turned into black and flashes.
I had done some test as following:
Opened the same excel file in both workstations, typed my excel formulas that spread into 14 columns and run them down to 500,000 rows, the M4500 finished in 22 seconds , while the Z820 at the first time stopped with the ( Not responding message ) but in the second test it could finish the same function in 8 minutes.
I can share with you the formulas taht i used in excel if that helps.
I am really surprised because the spics of Z820 is much more greater than the spics of M4500
Could you please advise me what to do and where to start to resolve this problem?

  • Write Data storage VI performance issue

I have a program that logs data from mulitple channels.  It waits for 500 points from each channel, then saves the data (as a raw 2D DBL array) to file, wait for another 500 points, saves and so on.  At the end, I have a raw file.  I created a utility VI that would take the raw file and converts it to a tdm file so I can read it in Diadem.  The utility VI has a for loop.  In each iteration, the loop reads one data segment (the 500-point 2D array), converts the channel data to waveforms and then writes/appends to a tdm file using the Write Data (Channel) storage VI.  The VI works fine for small files.  But as the file gets larger, the conversion time seems to increase exponentially.  Eventually grinding to a halt.
I noticed that each iteration of the for loop seems to take longer and longer.  So I suspect the Write Data VI may not be simply appending to the existing channel data.  But instead, each time it's probably reading back the waveform data already saved, recombine them with the new data and then rewrite the entire file.  This is just a guess.
Anyway, I really need some help resolving the performance issue.  Any response will be appreciated.  The conversion VI is attached.

Here are two profile captures.  Each capture start at the first entry into the inner-most for loop and stop when it exited the loop.  Profile2.txt was captured when processing a RAW input file twice the size as in Profile.txt.  I'm not familiar with the VIs listed, but it shows that lot of time was spent in _saveDdtAttributes.vi and _saveDDT.vi.

  • Qosmio X505-Q870 Performance Issues While on Battery

    Hello to All,
I am new to the forum and wanted to present an issue to the knowledgeable regarding performance (gaming) while on battery.  I've noticed that the Q870 performs very well in all facets of gaming, and there are very few games that this system cannot run.  While connected to the wall outlet, the laptop consistently pumps out 45-75 fps in BFBC2 and the same framerate for other games such as COD: World at War and COD: Modern Warfare.  The problem is the battery....
As soon as I unplug the laptop from AC power, the framerate drops to 15 fps and, in some cases with Crysis, 7 fps.  I have the Power Options set to High Performance, but that doesn't seem to matter.  I understand that the battery will be quickly depleted if games are run at full framerate, however, what's the purpose of a gaming laptop if the battery cannot handle the performance?  I plan to augment the existing battery with a 20,000MaH external battery, however, I need to figure a solution to this problem or else the battery will be useless.  Please help!!

  • Prime-time Performance Issues

I'm paying for Quantum Internet service 75/35, but lately I'm noticing that watching AppleTV and Netflix in the evenings is getting hard to do. It seems like between 9:30 and 10:30pm EST my FiOS performance is getting really bad. This causes shows to halt/buffer multiple times and is souring the entire viewing experience.
Here's my ususal (daytime) performance using Verizon's own speed test tool, which is what I expect:
And here's what I've been getting at night, about 3Mb/s or sometimes less:
As you would imagine, this is causing large buffering delays as I'm trying to stream HD content.
I know I can try to reduce image quality to minimize required bandwidth, but that's not the point; this is NOT the Internet service I'm paying for.
Please note that my AppleTV device is HARD WIRED to my FiOS router. Also note that I am not using the FiOS router's on-board WiFi; that's turned off and I am serving WiFI in my house via two HARD WIRED Apple devices (a time capsule and an AirPort Express). I am seeing this performance on all devices in my house at these times, whether they are wired or wireless. Also note that I'm getting this test from Verizon's own site, which is hitting their own servers, which means that the interface between Apple, Amazon, Netflix, etc. and Verizon shouldn't have any bearing on the issue.
Of course all calls to support have been about resetting my router, rebooting the ONT, etc. and nothing is getting better. I am trying to tell Verizon that they need to test the performance/capacity of their MAN/WAN infrastructure, but the agent can't do that, and can't even do a loopback speed test through my router to confirm or refute the performance I'm seeing.
I don't know what else to do at this point, so I'll put it to the community. It looks like a lot of other people are seeing issues aligning with evening (i.e. prime time download) hours and I'm wondering if Verizon has oversold their capacity in my area (Tampa FL). They may have the fibers that can deliver a gig to each house, but if they don't have the router bandwidth and the backhaul bandwith to actually support it out to their network edge, it's a moot point.
Is there any way I can get someone's attention in the network engineering team at Verizon? At this point they either know they have a major issue and don't want to admit it, or have a local failure (bad PON card, loose connector, overloaded internediate router, etc) that they have yet to diagnose. The call center staff doesn't seem to know how to get to the bottom of this.

    Hi JDinTampa,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Pavilion Dv7 4165dx Hard drive failure and performance issues?

I have a pavilion dv7 4165dx notebook that was working great until a couple of months  when the performance of my machine started to decrease rapidly. I have performance issues with the machine because it takes 1 to 2 minutes to get from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and another 3 to 4 minutes for it to be ready to use. I already upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb but instead of going faster it goes slower and i also did a clean install of windows but it didn't help. Before i have problems it took maybe 30 to 50 seconds to go from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and 1 minute and 30 seconds to be ready to use and by the way i use soluto to tell me when the machine is ready for use. Then last week i notice that the headphone jack wasn't working properly so i contact hp and they told me to send them the laptop so i did, they replace the motherboard and they  send it back to me and i just got it today it got a little better but it still lags on the welcome screen and to open programs. I check the memory using memtest 86 and the memory it's fine, but i check the hard drive with HDD Regenerator 2011 and it show i have one delayed sector. Then i check on hd tune pro and it show me some WARNING on section Calibration retry count( as you can see on the picture below)  so my question is should i be worry and send it back to hp or what can i do to fix the problem i am having with this notebook?

I have the same laptop and have had issues with it since the day i brought it home. I have had it for a year now and am now replacing the hard drive for the 3rd time. My guess would be its your hard drive because most of the issues you seem to be having ar the same ones ive been dealing with for a while. I can say I'm very mad about the quality of this laptop and am in the process of  battling with HP over this issue. If you have a chance go online and look at all the hard drive issues that this laptop has had and even look at the HP forums for this issue it will irritate you and make you wonder why this hasn't been fixed yet!

  • Performance issues - CVI 2010

    Hi all,
I have code I've compiled on a development machine - XP Pro with SP3 - and I'm seeing some performance issues on a similarly configured test machine.  2GB Ram, Pentium 4 CPU 2.8GHz.  I had our IT person clean off another machine for me to use exclusively for testing (the other machine is our Tester's PC) and he gave me one with an Intel Core2 4300 @ 1.80 GHz.  My code on my test machine runs like a top with NO problems.
We have another PC running Win7 on an Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz, RAM = 4GB.  The code should be screaming on this machine but we're seeing performance problems here, too, that I believe may be due to the OS - Win7 may be a real hog.
Can anyone make sense of this?  Is the dual core that much better even though that CPU is rated lower in PassMark Bench Ratings (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php).  We're trying to work all this out so we can advise the customer on which machine he needs to run our software.
    Thanks,
    Judy

    Hi Judy,
Looking at the spreadsheet it seems unlikely that memory or cpu requirements are the root cause of the issue because the second machine in the spreadsheet with poor "performance" has almost twice the CPU clock speed and twice the physical memory of the fourth machine that runs well.
It sounds like your application is a fairly complex application that involves both GUI components and instrument I/O so what needs to be done is determine what part of the application is causing the bottleneck. There are many different factors which if not considered properly when developing applications that can cause performance problems such as thread deadlocks, device driver problems with the instruments or other hardware, needing to adjust the sleep policy for GUI events, writing to TDMS files in CVI versions before 2010 SP1, having memory leaks in the application code, etc. There is also a KB called Improving Performance of LabWindows™/CVI Applications that describes some changes which may help improve performance.
The overall message is that it is not only CPU speed and quantity of RAM available that can cause performance problems. A way to check the amount of RAM used by an application and CPU Utilization is to use the Windows 7 Resource Monitor to watch the application. This can be done by running Task Manager (ctrl + shift + esc), selecting the Performance tab and pressing Resource Monitor. This will open the Resource Monitor window where you can check CPU usage, Memory, Disk and Network usage for the application while it is running.

  • Datasocket calls from Fieldpoint - performance issues

I'm noticing that it takes A LONG TIME for the fieldpoint units to READ data from a Datasocket Server. My program is currently looping and reading 4 Datasocket Items from a server computer(in a for loop) but it takes around 3 seconds for this process to occur. Any suggestions as to how i can "speed" up these datasocket reads? Would using a different protocol (to read datasockets item) be quicker?

"the loop time dropped from 3 seconds
to under 1 sec (about 750ms)"
I wanted to mention that the 750ms was a pre-defined wait time i placed
in the loop.  Without a wait time,  I dropped the loop time
    to about  80ms.
Also,  can anyone please help me with this issue?

  • Performance issue of a standalone vi in Win7

    Hi all,
I've created a project which is completely running in FPGA Target. After I created a standalone vi which resides under My Computer in project, I saw that loop rate become 100 ms. On the other hand, the loop rate was about 20 ms in RT side. All calculations and control mechanism work in FPGA Target so I thought that I may not need to use shared variables. I thought that I could send the input values that are needed by FPGA Target with using "Open FPGA VI Reference" only. Do you think that I can do this?
Another question is that is there any option in LabVIEW to increase performance? Like use 4 core of processor or 4 GB ram?
    Best regards,

    Hi GerdW,
First of all, thank you for your quick response.
Sorry, I couldn't explain it well. I've attached some screenshots of my work. (By the way I am a newbie. So I may know some ideas or structures not so well.)
    * I've never tried to build application before. I've always studied in Real Time. I want to create an application (executable file) so that user can control the system independently from LabVIEW. When I was working in RT, I didn't have any problem with timing. I had timing problems after I started to work in PC. Is there anything that I miss or anything that I know wrong with this?
    * As I said above, I always worked and created vi files in cRIO. I thought that there is no need to work in RT if FPGA Target does everything. So I created a vi under My computer and I used Open FPGA VI Reference. As you can see from the picture, IP number appeared on reference. Can I use this way, right?
    * I have a lot of values as controls in FPGA. FPGA takes frequency, offset and amplitude for 4 different sine wave generation vi. There are manuel control inputs (setpoints, proportional gains, etc.). Anyway, there are about 60-65 variables which are needed to be sent to FPGA. (single precision, integer or FXP variables) After that there are few things to be done outside FPGA like counting cycles of sine wave, finding max values of variables (displacement, force, etc.). I wanted to these in FPGA but there is not enough space in Slices. (You can see from file in the attachment.) Do I need to use RT? Because if I have to use it, those variables should be shared variable, right?
If I'm not still clear, please let me know. I will try to share more information and file.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best regards,

  • T410 performance issues..

My t410 laptop is pretty slow from last few days.  Haven't  installed anything specific except Orace db express edition.
Moment I start few programs, it takes lot of time to switch from one program to another..
Right now, following programs are running
    Samtime Client
    Microsoft outlook
3 ie windows with video playing in one of the windows.
    few putty sessions..
It takes hell lot of time to switch from one of these programs to another.
Even spell-checker on outlook or browsing on ie takes easily 30 secs to respond..
Is it something to do with main memory size.. It is 2GB.  Do i have to upgrade it..
It is baffling as my 5 years old dell laptop (pentium IV, 1Gb ram) runs better than this.

  • Pc Performance Issue On Games

Hello again, until yesterday i can easily play most of the pc games with medium/high graphics (of course aa is off ) but yesterday i changed some of the settings on the AMD Catalyst Control Center, i setted them to best quality for just see the graphics, 'how will they look like' i wonder, i see the graphics (of course pc got way slower) and again i setted them to best performance but it's not the same performance with after two days ago. For example i was playin the League of Legends 1080p, Verry Good options and aa is open but now i can barely play the game with medium settings and aa is closed. So what was happpen? I resently purchased an Hp dv6-3025dx. I didnt purchase this computer for gaming by no means but, kept the option in mind. Since the purchase i've put 2 games on it. one being neverwinter night 2 and team fortress 2 both of which are somewhat old games. I have noticed that i have to put both games on the lowest settings to play them without chopiness. I was wondering if this was an unusual thing. I dont really want to deal with hp's technical support if there isn't a problem as i know its just going to be a pain in the azz. Here are some specs.

  • Issue with HP Z820 64GB RAM and dual Quadro K4000's and rendering and playback performance

I'm having major issues with performance on my system (running windows 8.1. Premiere CC 7.2.2). My friend in the office here has a Mac Pro (2013) with 6 core cpu and dual D500's and I have dual Xeon 2665's and dual K4000's.
The problem is that he can export twice as fast as me on mercury software and almost 3 times faster on Mercury GPU. He can also add twice as many affects before his system drops frames (using same settings and video file). When I go to GPU-Z my gpu's are hardly working with GPU export selected... with software only my CPU's get to 60% load max whereas his CPU get's to about 84%. Am I missing something? I know the D500's are almost the same as W8000's (and he has two), but dual K4000's shouldn't be that far behind? And how does selecting cpu exporting get him an export time of 6 minutes compared to my 15 minutes when I have a 32 threads to work with??
Am I doing something wrong? Have I got a setting somewhere that is causing this that I might have missed? Are dual D500's really THAT much better than dual K4000's? AND HOW is my 7k+ machine that much worse than his £3200 mac?
Please help. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks
Edit - Would just like to add that the video files we are using are pro res 422 and that I have the latest bios and latest nvidia performance drivers

That HP Z820 should kick the Mac pros butt! For example we run Autodesk Flame systems ( 150k software) on the Z820's with Quadro 6000 cards and they fly. We also had a new mac pro in for testing a few months ago w the dual fire pro cards all decked out and it was crap next the the Z820. Of cource the new MP cant run allot of highend software because of its lack of nvidia support and the firepros lack of open GL but we did run premier and smoke etc  on it for testing. ( Although i thought it looked cool the total lack of exandability and nvida support  was to much so we sent it back). Graphic workstations need PCIe expandability and a choice in GPs.
Anyhow here are a few observations:
-Software being used will dertermine the hardware purchased,
-The dual xeons at the much lower clock speed are meant to work 24/7 like a lamans endurance race, not a sprint race.  Better to get highest frequency xeons.
-Having dual CPUs with all thoughs cores will only work with a software that is properly mulithreaded, premier is definetly not one of those softwares so you not getting any advantage.
    - the advantage to Quadro cards are much more noticable in 3d tha 2d. If your running Autodesk maya, 3ds max or the recently disscontinued XSI you would be flying compared to the W7000.
-dual GPU cards do not preform at twice the speed. On average the second card gives about a 10 percent boost.
-At present ( and as akways) , nividia Quadro drivers are much more uptodate and bug free compared to ATI highend cards. This will inevitably change as openCL over takes openGL, until then Quadros are the clearly superior cards for those with DEEP pockets.
-I think you would have been far better off with a single Quadro 6000 vs dual K4000s. Also any higher end ATI firepro card would have worked since Premier now uses open CL and no longer needs openGL. Main advantage to Quadro at this point (  besides 3D ) is to be compatible with the most softwares and get the best and most optimized drivers. Firepros will work properly in far fewer softwares at this point but I can see a day over the next few years this may change but not as of yet in 2014. So his W7000 wins this sprint race in this single simple example but in most any other situations your cards will actually work and win. I like saving money like the next guy but I even purchase Quadro cards for my home use and experimenting, but Im not a gamer.
-FYI: Cuda core count no longer is true measure. For example older Fermi cards worked at twice the frequency than the newer kepler architecture so in effect today you need double ( actually more) the amount of cuda cores to equal the older cards. Also the true compute power in the new Keplers is also much inferior to the older cards.  Its all creative advertiseing today more akin to creative accounting / smoke and mirrors. What im trying to explain is when people read the charts that show the cuda core count and say the higest is best is completely not true. It may have the most "cores" but it will not render correctly, double percision is missing, colors may pop, anti aliasing is inferior and inconsistant,  interaction ( most important) and shaders will be buggy or missing. There are very good reasons people spend money on highend Quadro cards but the charts and reviews generically speaking never understand or can even test for this stuff.
-Even given the above scenarios your Z820 should be killing your competition. Using a decked out Z820 is way overkill for anything CC. ( Kinda like driving an F1 to get groceries.)  get your HP rep to come over and replace / test your rig. Its free and covered in your coverage.
