Z87-G43 Bios crashing, not showing information

I just built a new system using the Z87-G43. Everything was fine, I just installed a pci-e esata card using the Silicon Image SI3132 SATALink Controller.
My computer will not boot unless I have my external bay on and a drive installed. If I don't have the bay turned on and a drive installed, I get the A2 error.
I had previous esata cards and never had this issue.
Also, now when I enter Bios setup, virtually no information is displayed. I see only Advanced and Password as options in the main screen. If I click where the other options are, Bios freezes.
I'm pretty sure this didn't happen until I put the new esata card in.
Can anybody help me figure out what is going on?
Should I be concerned my Bios is going to fail or become corrupt?
I can't be sure but I was able to read this number at the top of the Bios page, E7816IMS V1.6
I would like to make sure I have the latest Bios but am weary of using Live Update due to all the horror stories.
If anybody has any insight as to what is going on, I really would appreciate some help.
Thank you!

Update;
My BIOS update to v1.7 seemed to go ok, haven't noticed any problems. I also updated the Intel ME drivers, that went fine as well.
Weird, even when my bios (v1.6) was corrupt, my system would boot without issue (not sure if the A2 error was due to bios or a piece of my hardware).
Anyways, I had a pci-e esata card PEXESAT3221, couldn't get it to show the drives inside my 4 bay esata enclosure. It was just like they weren't attached or the enclosure was not powered on. After much frustration, I moved on to a different card.
Card two, SD-SA2PEX-2E, This card would only see one drive in my enclosure (when I had more than one installed) in My Computer. I could 'see' the drives in the bottom pane of Disk Management, then could right click on the drive and select 'change drive letter and path' and that drive would show up in My Computer and was available. I had to do this for every drive. If I moved a drive or swapped drives, I would have to go through the process again. If I rebooted, I would again have to go through the process to be able to 'see' more than one drive. I was working with the manufacturer of the card and they kept telling me to install the latest drivers, which I did but the latest drivers were only compatible with card bios v 7.7.02 (my card was 7.7.03). Their website stated that bios and driver versions needed to be matched. For some reason, I could never get them to understand that the driver for bios 7.7.02 was not working as my card had bios 7.7.03. So, out of frustration, I nixed the card and went back to the first card.
Now, same thing as before, this card just would not show any drives. I checked the installation of the driver and it showed the latest, v 1.3.8.0 Asmedia 106x. I did some research and discovered that some people were discussing drivers for this device they found on a foreign website, not affiliated with the card vendor. I took a chance and downloaded those drivers, v 2.0.8.0 and what do you know? Everything works fine now, so far (still have to do some testing before I'm absolutely convinced)...
Feels good to see my drives show up when I power on my enclosure, or swap drives etc...
Not sure why a motherboard bios update would change the behavior of a pci-e card like this but I feel fortunate to have struggled through. I appreciate all the help and advice, thanks fellas.

• Z87-G43 bios wont take 2133Mhz ram settings

Hi, I have an i7 4770k, z87-g43 gaming motherboard with 16GB 2133Mhz ripjaws RAM. Whenever I try to run the ram higher than 1600 Mhz it fails, I tried using OC genie, it fails, I tried using the X.M.P profiles, they fail, tried running any voltage between 1.5 and 1.65v with 2133Mhz it fails. If anyone has any idea what I could do it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried 11-11-11-30 timings @ 2133Mhz and 1.6v and 1.65v, tried just one stick at 2133, tried the set at 1866 with 10-10-10-27, tried both XMP profiles and they all say overclock failed, F1 to setup or F2 to set default.
ram model is F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZ
also on the sticker it says DDR3-2133 CL11-11-11-30 1.60v PC3-17000 4Gx4 intel XMP ready.

You may never be able to run 4 channels at that speed.
Do they work with the memory installed into DIMMS 2 & 4?
There have been numerous memory fixes in the bios notes that might help: >>BIOSes<<
Might want to try increasing the vdroop to the cpu and defiantly set the dramv to 1.65
The performance difference is actually very small from 1600- 2133, but if you really want to run the memory like that you may need to get some different ram. You would look for 11-11-11-30 1.5v memory, Corsair vengeance or dominator are highly recommended.

• Installed a RAID card in my Dell Inspiron 3847. However, the RAID BIOS does not show up and I cannot install Windows 7 to it.

That is basically a summary of the problem The Dell Inspiron 3847 does not come with RAID, so I tried installing a PCI-express 1x RAID card. However, the RAID BIOS never shows up. The HDDs show up when I install the RAID controller driver in Windows 7 setup, but I cannot install Windows 7. I am using an IOCrest SY-PEX40008 RAID card with a Silicon Image Sil3124 chipset.
I tried pressing the hotkeys for the RAID BIOS listed in the card's manual, but it seems to just cause bootup to freeze. BIOS also does not seem to detect the RAID card HDDs as boot options.

On XP that variable points to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\

• BIOS does not show/allow hhd settings`

I have a hp Pavilion dv6 laptop notebook PC with an i5 2.4 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM and 500 GB
WD Scorpio Black SATA WD 5000 BEKT hhd. The computer has encountered a problem connecting to a device'. The hhd tests I have run show 'no hhd detected'. The Insyde H20 BIOs version 1.23 does not even include any hhd settings or show any hhd at all on the computer. This laptop just stopped working one day. so far, I have come up with: (1) BIOS corrupt; (2) SATA driver missing or corrupt; (3) hhd controller on MOBO bad; or (4) hhd itself bad.
It does spin up, heats up a lot, and its spin accelerates at times to a very fast pace. SMART and other hhd tests have failed (no hhd). So the hhd is definitely not being detected. I need to know why, and what to do about it.
Thanks for any help

It's either a controller or hard drive failure.
Take the hard drive out and then put it back in and see if that makes a difference (if you haven't already).

When a user displays an IS-U customer information using transaction code CIC0, only the Business Partner information is populated with details. The custom view that we created under Fact Sheet doesnt show anything.
Where do you fix this issue? I checked the security roles assigned and everyone in their team have the same security roles so Im wondering why this particular user cannot display the customer information in the Fact Sheet View.

Restart them all including nodemanager service if you are using it.

• 'Last Used On' column in Programs & Features (appwiz.cpl) not showing information for any installed apps

Running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit
steps to reproduce. type appwiz.cpl in search window to open Programs & Features window
change your view to 'details' (detailed view)
right click on column headers & click 'More...', scroll down & add 'Last Used On' column to view
no installed apps have a 'Last Used On' value

Same here. The Last Used On column itself isn't enabled by default. Perhaps Microsoft dropped the feature for performance.
<quoting Raymond Chen [MS]>
In order to get the "Last Used" and "Frequency" values, Add/Remove Programs needs to know the name of the EXE so it can ask the Start menu "Hey, how often did the user run this program, and when was the last time it happened?"
Notice that there are no clues in the registration above as to the identity of this EXE file.
So Add/Remove Programs starts guessing. It goes through all the programs on your Start menu and compares their names with the display name of the uninstallable item. It looks for Start menu items which share at least two words with the words in the DisplayName.
For example, if there were a Start menu item called "Pretty Decent Windows Program", this would count as a two-word match ("Windows" and "Program").
It then takes the one with the most matches and decides, "Okay, I guess this is it." Suppose for the sake of illustration that the best match is indeed "Pretty Decent Windows Program.lnk", which is a shortcut to "C:\Program Files\LitWare\Decent Program\Decent.exe". Add/Remove Programs would decide that "Awesome Program for Windows" should get the icon for "Pretty Decent Windows Program.lnk", that the frequency of use and most-recently-used information for "C:\Program Files\LitWare\Decent Program\Decent.exe" will be displayed for "Awesome Program for Windows".

It's nice that MS has dropped this feature in Windows 7.

• Z87-G43, MSI Command Center will not start.

Board: MSI Z87-G43
Bios: Version 1.5
VGA: EVGA GTX 770 SC
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 650
Intel Core i5-4670k (stock)
MEM: Crucial Ballistic Sport 8gb 2x 4gb
SSD: Kingston HyperX 120gb
COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVo
OS: Windows 8.1
Command Center works on the main Windows account that I created when I installed Windows 8.1. I did not like having a Windows user account that was online all the time so I created an offline Administrator account.
Command Center freezes as it is trying to load on the offline user account and I have no idea why. When I ran Command Center the first time on my main user account(online), a window popped up I think it was for a .NET installation?
I did not get that window on the offline account. I know the solution has got to be simple and stupid. Just lost at what it is.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Command Center on the the offline account and it still will not work. Still freezes as it's trying to load.

I know this is a little late, but I had the same issue with the same board. I discovered that it must have the "m" driver installed first or something similar, first, before it will work correctly. It states this in the download center (look there and it will have the correct information) but it's easy to get those two pieces of software and information about it separated. I hope this helps someone.

• Information drawer not showing

Dear all,
it seems that there is a bug in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 as I can not show information drawer in simulation window. I have the same problem on two machines so I doupt that this is computer problem. I already deleted DVD Studio preferences, but there is no difference. I am desperate There is another post from 2007 so I also doupt that this is OS X version problem. It must be DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1. Does anyone else have the same problem?
OS X 10.6.6
DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1
Intel Mac (Mac Pro dual 2,8 Ghz and MacBook Pro i5)
Please help.

Thanks Studio X. There is no real working solution for me. It is sad, that Apple is ignoring this problem as it exists for a few years now. I am an Apple fan, using Final Cut from its start, I was really satisfied with their products, but lately I have a feeling that they have different priorities. From PRO level, they've definitely moved to CONSUMER level. Sell a lot of visual appealing stuff - that looks great, but works so so. God help you if you experience a problem that is limited to a too small group - nowadays it seems that PRO group is to small for Apple.
I am sorry Apple, but I am somehow disappointed.

• Z87-g43 bad Bios flash by Live Update5?

Hi All
So here is my problem.............I installed the MoBo fine and it all worked, no problem. One of the Utilities that come with the MoBo is an application called Live Update 5.0, which is supposed to keep the system as current as possible. In this application were some Update, one was something called "Sync", other is network card etc. and thither was an updated BIOS from 1.30 to 1.50 and recommended to update. I clicked the relevant button and off it went doing it's thing until................The Bios thing got to 50% in this little DOS type box, then the computer turned itself off and that was it, game over. All the computer will do now is sit there with a blank screen, turning itself off and on every ~5mins, it just doesn't POST at all.
Is there a way to recover the BIOS ?
Any advice gratefully received, many thanks

i happy, mobo working again.
I build SPI programer and connect to JPSI1. Then upload bios file to nand. Now is working again.
Wow! Nice work! Now as a recommendation, remove Live Update from your machine, and if the drivers need updating, download them manually from an MSI Website and install them yourself. LU5, unfortunately, can't be trusted, 'especially' for BIOS updating.

• BSOD using Z87-G43

Hi,
I recently experienced BSOD twice, within the last 2 months. The first BSOD I wasn't able to check the error message. The 2nd BSOD I wasnt able to catch it too however I learned how to look at the event viewer. It shows an error 00xxx50. something something. Also, I also saw an error regarding MSI IO. I did some research and I don't know if it's true but it tells me that the mobo had a hard time communicating with one of the hardwares, thats the cause of the BSOD. I encountered the BSOD for both scenarios when Leauge of Legends App is up and I close it. I also just recently installed Uningine free version. I'm also having a hard time safely removing my external hard drive with the MSI mobo. I have 2 Rigs and i'm not experiencing the safely remove hardware issue with my AMD APU build.
TS what I did so far is:
1. checkdisk
2. reinstall GPU driver
Someone told me to reinstall the chipset driver, my question is do I need to uninstall the current chipset driver before I install the driver again? Or I can just install the chipset driver even though there is a current chipset driver installed.
Thanks

Hi xmad,
Board: Z87-G43
BIOS: V 1.0
VGA: Sapphire R9 270X Dual X OC with Boost
PSU: FSP Raider 650W Silver 80+ certified
CPU: I5 4670K 3.4Ghz
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8G 4x2 1866 CL9
HDD: 1 TB WD Caviar Blue
Cooler: Thermaltake NIC C4
OC: 4.0Ghz on auto settings, voltages
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
I did the windows 7 memory test and it did not find any errors. Here's the bigger picture. During the first two months I was not experiencing any BSOD. Then suddenly I started geting errors when I try to safely remove my external WD elements HDD. I Oc'd my VGA. I got my first BSOD while playing LOL. However I was not able to see the error message. So restored the VGA to it's default settings. 2nd BSOD error is when I was watching a movie with my external HDD and fell asleep. The following morning, My PC is still on I removed the HDD and remove the External HDDD. when I try to restart the PC it took 5 secs and then gave me a black screen and then the BSOD. That's when I found out about the x50 error BSOD. I resolved the safely remove error of my external HDD but just this morning when I woke up. I left my External HDD plugged in to my computer. When I removed it and try to restart the PC then it gave me again the BSOD with the same x50 error and it's still the MSISuperIO_CC error that caused the system to crash. Hope you can help me with this.

• Z87-G43 Can't control PWM fans, wth?

Here's the build:
MSI Z87-G43 (BIOS v1.6 updated hoping this would fix problem, no go)
Corsair H80 watercooler (dual PWM fans push/pull config on radiator, these are what I cannot control)
Intel i5-4670K
16GB DDR3-1600
GTX550Ti 1GB
The H80 fans, I disconnect them from the cooler and connect them to the motherboard for control by software, rather than letting the H80 handle them itself so I can control the water temperature and let the pump run at full speed (like a custom water cooling circuit). I've had PWM control of these fans before on an old AM3+ build without a single problem, but plugging them into CPU1 or CPU2, I get 0 control at all. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this, I've tried plugging the fans into SYSFAN ports, and nada. My 3-pin V-Control fan works on SYSFAN1 port without a problem, full control. CPUFAN ports have no PWM control it seems, and I've tried Control Center and other 3rd party applications to enable it, without success. HALP, my computer sounds like a jet engine for no reason!
Trying to adjust the PWM fans in BIOS doesn't work either, they just keep running at 100%... I'm really getting tired of the jet engine sound.

USA will often allow a cross ship, but not usually in other parts of the world. Here is the contact;
> Contact MSI <
Do you not understand this is a user to user forum? Non official MSI support? Even the admin and mods are non MSI employees. All volunteers here, not at beck and call to wait hand and foot on somebody that 'demands' anything.
I understand that this is a user forum, but when I see "MSI HQ" as their title, that's quite misleading as that reads (when you break down the acronyms): Micro-Star International HeadQuarters.
I'm only 'demanding' because I just got this and set it up. I have been without a primary computer for months now and otherwise lost access to TERABYTES of data that I can only access with the keys on the primary drive. I lost money on those projects not being delivered on time, and now that I'm back in business, I don't wish to lose any more waiting for a replacement. If they can cross-ship, that's fantastic, and I'll be so happy because I won't lose a single day to downtime waiting for replacements.
I have used MSI boards in the past, in fact my "backup" computer (missing all my tools and code) is running an old MSI board, and my router's motherboard is also MSI. It's usually solid products that I have no problem with, so something as tiny and otherwise trivial as this, just rubs me the wrong way. I understand there's manufacturing defects that will come up, one of those MSI boards, when I got it had a bug where you couldn't burn a CD because if you had the IDE port configured for a certain speed in BIOS (by default), it would crash the entire board when pushed. This was due to a capacitor mix-up back at the factory (that MSI admitted to and offered free replacements to anyone with an affected board), and while I never bothered to request a replacement (I just applied a tweak in the BIOS to avoid using that capacitor like many others), it continued to work flawlessly otherwise. Though, this machine is gated for many many tasks, and getting a headache while using it because of the loud fans, just won't do, especially when I'm going to spend the majority of the time using this machine.
