Z87-G45 bios 1.60 boot loop

Noticed a bios update (V1.60) on MSI LiveUpdate, so downloaded .exe update file. Ran the file, walk away from the pc to do some choirs.
When I came back, a bsod (win 8.1) showed up, so I rebooted. Nothing. Rebooted again, nothing. Power off, nothing. Cleared CMOS... Nothing.
Mobo seems to be stuck in infinite bootloop.
Before (on v1.50) everything was running flawlessly.
What to do?

I agree in hindsight, since it went horribly wrong, I shouldn't have flashed. But for the sake of staying up-to-date, like I do with every device and piece of software (like graphics cards, android devices, even my car), I flashed 1.60 hoping for even better performance. Also, prior to this disaster I flashed 1.50 from 1.40 using LiveUpdate and that worked well. So I guess I didn't see the danger of it. But I learned my lesson now, you can rest assured. Thanks for the wise lecture
I will RMA the board and get a new one from another manufacturer straight away.

Z87-G45 Windows 7 (+XP) Boot/Install Failure

Hello,
I recently upgraded my PC with a new MSI Z87-G45 mainboard, processor, 8GB memory, and an MSI video card. I kept my old HDD drives (4x 320GB Western Difgital SATA drives), case, a recently-purchased PSU, etc.
Two of the drives contain my old Windows XP install, in a RAID0 config. This will not boot since switching to the new mobo, presumably due to the lack of AHCI drivers. So, I tried installing Windows 7 on the other drives, first in a RAID1 mirrored drive, then I de-linked them to try to boot as a single drive. Windows 7 begins to boot, then hangs on the Starting Windows screen and never completely loads. Booting from CD to Repair the installation similarly hangs with no respinse.
The mobo is set up in RAID mode. This is the mode it was in when I installed Windows. Switching to IDE or AHCI mode causes the system to reboot almost immediately.
I guess what I would like to know is:
What settings do I need on the mainboard in order for Windows 7 to install properly (not that I feel like another 4 hour installation ordeal)? I currently am using SATA in RAID mode, boot order DVD then HD, all others disabled, and Legacy + UEFI.
Do I need to install the drivers from the included driver disk, and if so how do I do that if the machine cannot boot? The installation procedure does not ask for any 3rd party drivers like XP etc used to.
And frankly, if the system can read from the disk just fine to boot to a certain point, why should it even have this issue? Don;t need an answer to that, it's just frustrating.

maybe the dvd disk can't be read due disk itself or due optical drive and cause some issue.

MSI Z87-G45 BIOS

So today I decided to check how my MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, Socket-1150 BIOS looked like so i pressed the enter BIOS option on the GO2BIOS utility app, my PC restarted and the screen stayed black for 10 minutes.... So I booted back to windows and disabled fast boot and tried to enter BIOS manually that didnt work either. So my problem is that my BIOS won't show at all. The PC is functional and there are no problems with it, can still boot into windows and go on about my day. But i would love to be able to enter BIOS.....

Z87-G45 BIOS Splash screen stays during windows startup animation

Hello all,
this is my first post on these forums and I haven't found any similar problems like mine so here it is:
when I power on the PC the normal BIOS splash screen comes up,
then it disappears and normally the windows (I'm running windows 8 Pro x64) startup animation should come up,
but with me the BIOS splash screen just returns and the windows startup circle just comes ontop of it,
like the normal startup animation but instead of a black background I have the BIOS splash screenas background and the windows logo itself also doesn't show,
just the loading circle...
My PC starts up pretty fast so its not that big of a deal but I just wondered if there was a fix
BTW I'm running on a MSI Z87-G45 Gaming with the latest BIOS version (1.3) and windows boots of an SSD

seems to be the normal way of booting. I've also just installed Win8 Pro in UEFI-Mode (not Legacy-UEFI!), and what I've heard from a friend that uses an ASUS board, is that this behavior indicates you are indeed booting in UEFI-Mode -> so no worries!

Z87-G45 BIOS update

Hello.
I recently used the MSI Live update tool to upgrade the bios from 1.50 to 1.60. When i booted it up, occasionally i get the "No boot media inserted" black screen. If i press the reset button a few times it will boot up as normal. I then used a USB stick to flash the bios back to 1.50 but it seems to still be happening occasionally. Could this be an issue with the BIOS, or is it my SSD on the fritz?

After BIOS update you should Clear CMOS and set The BIOS rigth (for your setup), Including Boot order.
That way you know it should work rigth. If it still forgets your Boot order then Check your MB battery.
Edit: if Battery and boot order is, ok. And you have Windows. Then do "startup repair" with Windows install media. Sorry dont know the rigth word for that tool, but its close to that.

Z87-G45 BIOS 1.2 Disables Intel Turbo Boost?

I just installed a new Z87-G45 with an i7-4770k. I installed BIOS 1.2 after getting the system running.
I wanted to test that the Intel Turbo Boost was working, so I went to download Intel's Turbo Monitor, but they helpfully let you know it isn't compatible with 4th generation I-series processors. So I downloaded the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, hoping it would show the CPU frequency live. It shows the CPU frequency at a constant 3.50Ghz, although I don't know if that means Turbo isn't working or the utility just doesn't do realtime frequency monitoring (but then why does it graph it?) The option to enable or disable Turbo Boost is grayed out in the ETU.
I went into OC in the BIOS to find the Turbo setting and make sure it was turned on... and found out there was no Turbo setting. Intel Turbo is not located where it is described in the user guide for this mobo. So I dug around the OC menu until I found OC->CPU Specifications->CPU Technology Support; that screen shows Intel Turbo Boost: N/A
I feel like there is something very wrong here. Anyone know what's going on?

Froggy: Yes, brought it over from a Gigabyte board with an i7-860 (I do a lot of video editing and moving from the 860 to the 4770k cut down the time it takes to render an effects heavy video by more than half! Getting turbo working shaved another few minutes off of the render time. For the video I used as a benchmark, the render time is down from 60 minutes to 24 minutes ) Honestly I don't remember if the Gigabyte board had AHCI enabled or not, but since Windows won't boot with it on now I'm guessing it wasn't on before.
Bernhard: There is a very simple registry change you can make in Windows 7 to enable AHCI: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976?wa=wsignin1.0 I tried the Fix-It tool and manually verified the registry change, but it still isn't booting.
More specifically, the system hangs at the Windows logo. This also happens when trying to boot into safe mode. It always stops after loading the same file, which I looked up and found was an Avast file, but I tried uninstalling Avast and it just hangs after a different file. I installed the Intel chipset drivers that came with the motherboard (which appear to be the latest ones) but don't see any AHCI driver listed under device manager. There is an Intel Rapid Storage Technology download on the MSI page for this motherboard (http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-G45-GAMING.html) but it is for 7-series boards and won't install on my system (I'm not sure the RST driver is even what I need, as it seems more targeted towards RAID, but it came up searching AHCI). The latest RST driver from Intel's download page won't install either ("Platform not supported").
I can't find any other AHCI drivers on the MSI CD. I'm not sure whether they would even show up in the device manager while the mobo is in IDE mode, or only in AHCI mode. If you guys happen to know anything else I should install I'd appreciate it.

MSI Z87-G45 BIOS Temps

I am having an issue with the BIOS displaying 99 degrees Celsius in the BIOS menu. It ramps up rather quick loading into the BIOS from around 50 degrees to 99 which it stays at. Touching the heatsink itself it feels cool to the touch which leads me to believe its not displaying the temps right. Also in windows my idle temps are around 45-55 but under load they can go up to the high 90's.
I am using a MSI Z87-G45 board with a 4670k Haswell which I know run a lot hotter and seems to cap at 100 degrees with just the stock cooler... well until my new cooler ships.
If I were to guess I would say it seems the BIOS is putting some load on the CPU, which would be fine just seems odd. Any insight anyone had on this situation would be great as the little research I have done I have never seen anyone open up the BIOS to temps any higher then 55 degrees on YouTube.

I just checked that literally after posting that thread. I was certain that it was seated well as I've been playing all types of games on it with no issues but thought I would reapply some paste... only to see that it didn't even make contact. Makes me remember why I'm not a huge fan of the stock Intel cooler hold downs. Now I'm bordering on embarrassed and amazed that the CPU didn't start frying or at least restarting.

Z87 G45 bios splash reboot cycle

I built my machine 16 months ago. i was told MSI all the way when building if can as great quality components.
I got an i7 4770k, 8gb ram, msi lightning 780, msi z87 g45 gaming board.
Never once overclocked a single thing, didnt need to as it stood strong against the games I play.
I was playing elder scrolls few days ago when all of sudden a got a reboot of the machine, the 780 fans went crazy full, the lightning logo showing green as normal but it wouldn't load past bios screen. I could enter bios no problem. But nothing seemed to get past bios splash. I tried the 780 in a second machine, same issue but now no video at all, fans on full, logo lit up green, moniter wont even see its connected to anything.
I tried loading from onboard video on my machine without 780 connected. Same thing, cant get past bios splash just reboots self. I have tried flashing bios to 1.9, tried reinstalling windows, it finishes windows installation reboots and bios cycle again.
Took to a pc repair they don't know whats wrong they checked psu, memory tested for 17 hours, totally stumped.
This rig has never been overclocked once ok, never overheated as always made sure was cool and clean inside case.
Needless to say I am extremely unhappy and disappointed with MSI. I have made several machines over the years and never once seen this, I bought the card for £380 and the motherboard £130. I expected it to last longer than the cheaper machines I built. Not both MSI components crashing out in 16 months.
Does anyone know anything else I can try to salvage any of this?

The thing is in the bios it shows the cpu, the ram, hard drive etc ok. I can even install windows from disk, but at end windows does a reboot then I get stuck at bios splash cycle. When I took the pc to repair store they advised did the memtest and other things, they managed to get a windows installed after several bsod and clearing cmos as last effort and then they managed to get windows going but they were quite honest and said they don't really know if fluke or not. They tested all they could and believe it a software issue possibly with board, now issue is back again.
My PSU is 850W, they tested it and said its fine and no issues with it.

Z87-G45 BIOS version 1.4 - Enhanced Turbo not working

I have a MSI Z87-G45 Gaming that I have been putting through its paces for the past few weeks, paired with an Intel Core i7-4771 (3.5GHz, 3.9GHz single core turbo, 3.7GHz all-core turbo). It's been great so far, but I have a puzzle on my hands that I have not been able to explain.
Yesterday, happy with the results of various tests I had been running, I started on my final build. Before OS installation, I checked around to see if any new driver or firmware packages had been released since I had last downloaded them a few weeks ago. There was a new BIOS release - version 1.4 - which I grabbed and flashed. I did not pull the BIOS battery afterwards, but I did load the BIOS defaults before configuring things.
Everything appeared to be fine, but today I noticed that the "Enhanced Turbo" option in the BIOS does not appear to be working correctly. Under BIOS version 1.3, CoreTemp, RealTemp and CPU-Z all reported a multiplier of 39x with all cores fully loaded. With BIOS version 1.4, the processor hits 39x with a single-threaded task but drops to 37x with all cores loaded - I.e. it is behaving according to its standard Turbo profile.
I'm not interested in overclocking this system which is why I didn't buy a K-series processor in the first place - everything on the BIOS OC tab is default/auto except for the DRAM which is using a XMP profile - but the extra 200MHz per core is rather neat and something I would like to have.
Is anyone else using BIOS version 1.4 experiencing similar issues? If not, any thoughts on where the issue might lie would be most welcome.

I've finally cracked it, so I thought I would add my findings to this thread in case anyone else runs into the same issue.
Under BIOS version 1.3, simply enabling Enhanced Turbo was apparently all that was needed to permit all cores to run with the highest multiplier.
Under BIOS version 1.4, this no longer appears to be the case. Although this setting lifts the multi-core Turbo Boost restrictions, Intel's default profile is still applied, in my case limiting the CPU to a multiplier of 37x with all cores fully loaded.
In addition to enabling Enhanced Turbo, the ratio limits under OC > CPU Features must be manually specified. With BIOS version 1.3, I had left these on their Auto setting and the highest multiplier had automatically been used. With 1.4, I had to manually select the highest multiplier to override the default Turbo Boost profile and get the desired result.

MSI Z87-G45 bios code

Hello.
I would like to know what the following codes mean: 99, 9C and A2.
I get these on my down right corner when my computer boots up (where it displays the RAM and such). Basically it's code 99, then immediately changes to 9C, then A2, then my memory and details display, before windows starting.

I have the same problem since i have update to bios v1.60
Now i have flash a other bios version with MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and the problem is gone.
Bios v1.60 troubles started when LiveUpdater5 flash it under windows 8.1
Which is the best Bios File (FULL) to use with MSI flashing tool into Dos mode ?????

Wondering what bios's people have tried? Anyone flash to beta 1.71 yet? Or tried any other beta's since last AMI 1.6 bios? Any noticeable difference in performance and or general feel of your hardware?

I tried out 1.68 and 1.71B (running now).
I don't see any differences at all.
I have annoying issues when booting from time to time when it tries to tell me I have BCD errors (complete BS).
It works again after doing a BIOS reset to default settings.

Z87-g45 bios update gone wrong

Hi, I'm a noob here and wish I found this forum a little earlier. I updated my bios to 1.6 a little while back, using the live update tool. (not a good thing to do I've learned) and now my bios logo keeps flickering before finally booting into windows. The one thing I hadn't done was resetting the cmos. My question is whether it is still usefull to do it now or should I revert back first to 1.5 with the forum tool? My comodo AV b.t.w. saw the forum tool as a trojan dropper - I take it is a false positive?

Yes, false positive.
Forum's USB flash method is excellent and ensures the ME firmware is properly installed. Since you can still get Windows to boot, best to leave it alone and reflash using the archive in the link along with the forum flash. USB stick formatted FAT32, use the tool's 'Fix My USB Key' option prior to letting the tool load the flash files for you. At the 10 second prompt, restart and set the USB stick as the only bootable device, Save and Exit and follow the prompt when in DOS.

Z87-G45 Bios 1.8 on Beta&Released Bios section

Hello,
Is it possible to post the released Bios v1.8 in Beta and Released Bios section?
The official Bios that is posted on MSI's Download page does not have the necessary FPT, fparts, and flash.bat that are needed to run using the Forum tool, along with updating the Management Engine.
I would like to run using the Forum Tool, since I can't initiate the update under Windows 7 64-bit.

B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.

E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash

MSI Z87-G45 Bios won't update

Hi,
I am fairly new with DIY PC's and I tried updating my bios to the latest version today. Currently, it is in version 1.5, but the latest is 1.7. I downloaded Live Update 5, considering that it might be the safest way for a newbie to update his motherboard. So I downloaded the update from Live Update 5. I reach into the application and it says to close every program... Ok, done that. Now, when I click next it says in an error message: "Can't load drivers".
I am very confused at what "driver" I could be missing. When I installed windows and everything, I updated my gpu, ethernet and audio drivers. With Live Update 5, prior to updating my bios, I updated my audio and ethernet drivers again (newer versions). I don't really want to use a usb stick to update my bios because if it doesn't work under windows, the result could be even worse if done directly in the BIOS, I guess.
In summary, what could cause this error message "Can't load drivers" to pop up?

Z87-G45 Bios v1.9 USB Problems

On old Bios v1.5 Logitech Clear Chat Wireless USB working.
After flashing to the latest Bios V1.9 unknown USB Device.
I had this Problem with Bios V1.7, V1.8 and now with v1.9 too
i dont understand why the old Bios is working and the latest not.
Flashed with MEFlash tool ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172772.msg1257570#msg1257570) to v1.9 udated ME Driver, updated USB 3.0 Driver, doesnt help.
When I connect the USB Cable for the Logitech Wireless Headset ---> unknown device :(
I think i will reflash the old v1.5 again.

I understand you paid a lot of money for motherboard (and not just this part) but the fact it doesn't work properly doesn't give you the right to call it's worst you've ever seen. 1 out of xxx products (of EVERY brand, not just MSI) is faulty (just about to get stats from all the brands), and in this case you were unlucky. Personally I have no problems with 1.9 BIOS nor any of my USB headsets or devices.
Contact store you bought motherboard from and ask for replacement or refund. Or try going back to v1.5 but that's risky stuff. Sorry to hear this but sadly not everything goes as our mind would plan things.
