Z87 - G45 Display ports not working

I recently bought a custom computer from cyberpowerpc.com with a Z87-G45 motherboard and an AMD 7700 graphics card.
When customizing this PC I had the goal of dual monitoring in mind, thinking I could use a port from the motherboard for one and then a HDMI to DVI port on the 7700 for the other.
When I opened the box to set up the computer none of the display ports on the Z87-G45 work. No HDMI, VGA, or the DVI.
I am currently using the HDMI port on the 7700 to a DVI for one monitor and wanted to run the second monitor off the VGA on the motherboard. None of the display ports work at all on the Z87-G45 whether trying to run 1 monitor or 2.
I've tried installing the VGA drivers from the MSI website but it gives me an error message saying I don't meet the minimum spec standards which I am sure that I do.
I've also ran the Live Updater 5 installing the new bios and other updates. I also tried to get the drivers from the black CD that came with the order but I was unable to click the driver box from it being faded out and unselected.
Can anyone help me find a way to get the ports on the motherboard working? As well as helping me determine if I can actually run two monitors with one off the 7700 and the other off the motherboard?
Thanks!

So I took your advice, returned the Hd7770 and got the 2gb HD7870 then watched a youtube video on how to install a video card.
I tested it on playing Diablo 3 and Star Craft 2. Reset video settings to defaults. Now both games seem to be a little jumpy on the video. SC2 detected the video card and loaded the suggested settings. When I play SC2 it seems a bit laggy and the video freezes then jumps every now and then. Same with D3 when I increase the video settings for the shadows, and foreground and background frame rates.
It seems odd that it would be jumpy for SC 2 using the suggestest settings for my video card.
Could it be something else on my setup that is holding the game back?
Could I have installed the video card incorrectly? Would it work/ be detected if I hadn't?
Everything seemed fine when I used the HD7770 and I didn't notice much of a change in the video settings for either game, but I am assuming there would be.

  • Z87 G45 Ethernet Ports Not Work

After simply turning my router off and on again, it's showing no ethernet cable are connected.
I've tried restarting my PC several times, I plugged in the cable to my laptop which had no trouble, so that leads me to believe the mobo is the cause.
Secondly, I don't believe it's a driver/BIOS issue since it was working perfectly fine prior to turning off my router, this is really frustrating since I had the exact same issue when initially setting up my PC.

    Cat 5e can do 1Gb fine, he doesn't need a Cat 6.
Does the LED blink and/or are on in the back? There should be an orange LED constantly on.
If it is then try this:
    http://www.webxpert.ro/andrei/2009/03/02/how-to-reset-windows-xp-winsock-and-tcpip-stack-entries/
If that doesn't work, then try re-installing the killer drivers, if that doesn't work try a format.
If that doesn't work or no LED on in the back you might have to RMA the board. I remember my Gigabyte G35 mobo on which the ethernet just died on me a couple of days later after I bought it. Lucky it was within the 30 days so I just got an exchange at my local store.

  • GS70 miniDP/mini Display Port not working

    Hi forum,
I recently got a GS70 with 860m graphics that runs win8.1. I can use the HDMI interface with no problems with various monitors. The displays are detected both by the intel software as well as the "change screen resolution" config of windows.
When I plug a monitor into the miniDP ports however the displays are not detected by the system. I tried this with a 27" Samsung as well as a 30" Dell U3011. I used a miniDP2HDMI cable, a miniDP2DP cable and an active miniDP2DVI adapter, none of them works. I am using the latest Nvidia drivers, they have been updated online through the nvidia experience stuff.
I tried to troubleshoot this by using an Ubuntu live CD with the same results. HDMI works out of the box as soon as I plug a cable in. Nothing happens when I use the miniDP cable though.
I also noticed that one cable (miniDP2HDMI) I can put fully into the miniDP port while the other one(miniDp2DP) sticks out 3-4mm and does not seem to go into further even with force. They look alike and the packaging clearly says "miniDP..." though.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks.

have you tried to press fn + F2 button? some times some displays wont give signal untill you press that button and then laptop one will either go black or go off then on again and then external monitor will wake up and give picture so try it if you havent and then return back to us if it works or not.

  • HDMI to Mini Display Port not working?!?!

    Hi,
I use my macbook Air (latest one with mini display port) to watch movies on my TV. I use a hdmi to mini display port adapter cable which worked perfect for about 6 months. Yesterday, I plugged my mac in and nothing appeared. I have no idea why- no settings have been changed.
As usual, the screen goes blue and then back to normal but the TV screen is plain black. In the Display settings, the 'arrangements' tab is missing where I can set mirro displays things. I tried bying a new adapter and trying this with my sister's macbook pro but it still doesnt work.
Any ideas on why this has happened & to how I can fix it?
    Thanks for your help

This is probably NOT the solution you're looking for, but use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm (headphone jack) cable to transmit sound. I use stereo speakers with my setup, sounds far better than the TV.

  • Apple Mini Display Port NOT working at resolutions over 1600X1200!

    Problem:
Apple Mini Display Port does NOT work at resolutions over 1600X1200 on NON Apple Cinema Displays.
That means if you own any other brand of monitor such as NEC, Lacie, etc. you will NOT get native resolution on your 24 inch monitor as it is stuck at a maximum resolution of 1600X1200.
This story was mentioned on "Macbreak Weekly" show 4-14-2009. I have since checked with a few people and it would indeed seem to be true at this point.
I REALLY hope a solution from Apple comes soon and this is not some new policy of theirs. If so, it may be the last Mac Pro I will or can ever own. The reason is I do a lot of 3D work with C4D, Vue, Modo and Photoshop CS4 so I MUST have a monitor like the high-end ones from Lacie that have 100% color gamut and Adobe RGB. I can NOT be tied down to an Apple Cinema display due to that work. At this time, it seems this means I would only get 1600X1200 resolution on that 24 inch monitor.
Has anyone else confirmed this too and if so what the heck is Apple thinking or better still going to do about it? I LOVE my Mac Pro but if they start forcing displays on us then I won't be buying another Mac, it's just that simple.

Thanks, but I think two things may be different in that setup.
    1. If I understood correctly, it's a first gen without a "Mini Display Port" and
    2. It was a laptop not a Mac Pro with a video card.
I think it has specifically to do with either one or both of the above combos. In particular I think it's the video card they are putting in them.
I am not sure if a new 2009 Apple laptop with a Mini Display Port connected to a NON Apple display would have an issue or work like yours does now. It would be interesting to get to the bottom of this for sure because it REALLY hurts people like myself that are into 3D design.
I will try to get back on this once I continue to find out more details.

  • Mini Display Port Not Working, WHY?

When I first got my MacPro I tried to display two monitors and couldn’t as the Mac didn’t detect anything fed from the Mini Display Port.
When connecting Either my BenQ M2700HD, BenQ FP222W or My Wacom Cintiq 12wx to the MAC via the Mini Display Port none of them were detected by the MAC. However all 3 work through the DVI Port on the MACPRO itself.
I have tried 2 HDMI>MiniDisplayPort (officail apple) adapters in order to rule out the adapter itself and neither fixed the problem.
Therefore I can only guess that its the Mini Display Port’s internal connection.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I havent yet opened up the computer as im hoping i can solve the problem without doing so.
It's a mac pro so all it takes to get inside is to take the lid off, right?  Not a big deal.  But so far, for this problem, I'm not sure what you would plan to do whle "in" there.
I checked all external connections and they are all 100% secure and fully seated.
    Ok.
I have notice that when i turn the 2nd monitor on/off (on the monitor itself) the 1st monitor flashes blue.
Why would it be doing this and still not detect the monitor itself?
Because a video card problem?  Maybe you need a replacement.   I supose it's possible for the mDPs to not wiork even though the DVI does.

  • Sound Out from Mini Display Port Not Working on a Particular TV

I have a Macbook Pro that I purchased new a few months ago. I use an adaptor to run the display out of the Mini Display port to an HDMI cable on my TV, sound and all. I have also used it while traveling to do the same thing on hotel TVs with HDMI ports.
When I do this, I have to go into System Prefs>Sound and specify the sound output should go to the model of TV that is displayed in the prefs. It always seemed to detect the model of TV when I have it hooked up.
I am staying in a house where I can't get the sound to go out of a Toshiba TV. It shows up in the sound prefs, but I can't ear a thing. The only way I can hear sound is if I tell it to use the internal speakers.
What am I doing wrong when it comes to the Toshiba?
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
But I wanna know what is the best way going ahead to get this fixed.
Thats up to you.  Given the testing you have performed the only additional items I would suggest would be:
Reset the SMC and then test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Reset the PRAM and then test: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
You can make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store, contact AppleCare via phone, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance.
Calling AppleCare and having them send you a box for the computer would be the fastest method of repair (usually) as an AppleStore or an Apple Authorized Service provider may not have the parts in stock.  You could certainly take the computer in to have them look at it and tell you what the repair time frame would be.
Also, if they decide to replace the part, will I be shelling out any money inspite of the coverage ?
If you would like to read the warranty of the Macbook Pro, Hardware warranty details are found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/
The warranty covers manufacturing issues. As long as the failure is due to a hardware component failure and not outside influence then there is no out of pocket expense.
If the port has failed because a 1 year old shoved a nail in it, rain blew in the window and shorted out the logic board, SUV backed up over the computer and broke the port, then the warranty will not cover it.  They will contact you and let you know that the repair is not covered and ask if you want it repaired at your own cost or you can pick up / have the computer sent back to you.
If for some reason you find out the issue is not covered then you could take it up with your insurnace company (renters / home owners etc) or your credit card company if you purchased the computer with a credit card.  Some credit cards offer hardware coverage for purchases.
    Best of luck.

  • Mini display port not working in xp

Got windows xp partitioned onto macbook pro, and everything else works fine, but trying to use the mini display port does nothing when connected to a tv. any ideas? am I missing a driver?
I looked around and other sources say that it should see the MDP as an external monitor but the only display option I get is the graphics card itself.
please leave some advice, I really want to play some fallout on the big screen

  • Mini display port not working?

I am trying to connect my late 2009 iMac to an extenal monitor.  Been to store twice now and both adapters are not fitting???  Am I missing something here...
    Thanks

Yup you are missing something what I don't know, however the first thing is learning how to insert a photo into this forum. Use the camera icon you see when you are replying or creating a message and follow the prompts. The second is following Apple's instructions for connecting an external display, which is located at:

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

  • Mac Mini + A1038 Cinema Display does not work

    Hi,
I have a 2009 model Mac Mini with mini-dvi and mini-display port's on the rear. I can connect any of my DVI based monitors to the mac mini using either the mini-dvi to dvi cable or the mini-displayport to dvi cable. All monitors except for the A1038 model Apple Cinema Display.
The cinema display works with 3 other computers with DVI ports, turns right on and is detected right away. When plugged into the mini it does nothing. Sometimes I can get it to work with the mini-dvi to dvi adapter but that is sporadic.
This is the same behavior with a 2009 model mac book pro and macbook. Using the mini-displayport to dvi cable the cinema display does not work but 3 other monitors do.
So my question is, why does apple hardware only work with non-apple hardware?

Is the A1038 the old, plastic Cinema Display that doesn't have a power cord or power supply? It only has a video cable with the special ADC on it? If that's the case, it needs this to run from a newer Mac:

    2. Enlightenment thinks the screen is connected and it appears in the screen setup as on.
    3. The monitor no longer recognizes that there is a laptop plugged in and just stays off...

So I downgraded those packages and the kernel with no luck.
I tried to get the HDMI working via Synergy... and failed
I then tested the Display Port on Windows and it did not work there either - exhibiting the same symptoms as Linux - the OS sees the monitor but no data was transferred.
So I ended up using one of my Display Link monitors at work... the USB monitors were ok, just an irritation with a flickering mouse.
I hope it is the miniDP>HDMI adapter and not the port... very frustrated by this problem.
I hope to test another adapter soon.
I think as nobody else is experiencing this issue that it may well be hardware/firmware related.
Hope there is a happy end to this post but not feeling so positive right now.

  • My thunderbolt display is not working with my MBP retina 13''

    Hi,
I just received both a new macbook pro retina 13'' and a thunderbolt display. Everything was working properly yesterday but today, I have no clue why, the thunderbolt display is not working anymore.
         . the power supplier for my laptop given by the thunderbolt display is still working;
         . when I don't connect my laptop through the thunderbolt connection, I can use the usb sockets as power supplier , for my phone, for instance;
. as soon as I plug the thunderbolt cable, the usb socket is not feeding any more my phone, whereas the screen is not displaying anything.
. If I take a look in the system report, in the thunderbolt tab, there is "no device connected"...
I restarted plenty of time my laptop, took care to reinitialise the SMC as well as the PRAM, and nothing changed. I also disconnected the thunderbolt display, waited few minutes (and more), but nothing changed, again the black screen.
    Has somebody an idea?
    Thanks

which model air do you have?
try both a pram and smc reset
plug the monitor into a different electrical outlet and a different port on your Mac (if you have multiple tb ports)

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.
