Z87-G45 has High CPU Usage from "System Interrupts" from USB EHCI#2

After install of Z87-G45 Board and associated drivers the CPU was being consumed by high System Interrupts.  I finally tracked this down to the device named Intel(R) Series/C220 Series USB EHCI#2 - 8C2D device.  When I disable this in device manager the high cpu immediately drops to 0.1% or less and when I reenable it the CPU consumption goes back to 50% of one core of an i5-4670K under Windows 7 64-bit  Of course disabling it turns off most of the USB 2.0 ports.
I have unplugged all USB2.0 headers from the board, updated bios to 1.5, updated the device driver from 9.4.0.1017 to 9.4.0.1025 (7/31/2013), installed the new Intel ME 90 driver pack released  on 10/29 and none of this has helped.
Is this a faulty board or is there something else to try?

It was a motherboard swap not a fresh install.
Hopefully you don't have any other problems. This is the recommended way to go.

Problem solved.  For the benefit of others who may run into this kind of problem here is my solution.  Look for articles on "remove unused USB devices" as a guide.  You will be surprised how much junk is left installed on your system.  Anything ever plugged in will leave garbage behind.
Go to control panel->System->Advanced system settings on left then under Advanced pick Environment Variables at the bottom.
Create a new variable name = devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices and value = 1
logout/reboot
go to device manager and under view menu pick show hidden devices.
Now manually go through and remove all the grayed out devices, especially under the USB controllers section but worthwhile to remove all the old garbage.  Reboot when done.
As always make backups before you start.
Good work

  • ITunes 10.6 has High CPU Usage when switched to Mini Player

iTunes has high CPU usage when switched to mini player. The CPU usage goes to 80-100% when the next song is played in Mini Player. iTunes then stays at high CPU usage.
Upon exiting mini player the CPU usage will drop back to the normal 0-5% levels.
This only happens when playing from the main music library; which my library is at 7089 items, 42.04 GB.
When playing from a smaller playlist such as a smart playlist with about 15 songs in it for example, the CPU usage stays low/normal.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Safari 3.03 for Mac has high CPU usage usually above 70%

I look at the Activity Monitor and it shows Safari using a lot of CPU % around 70 % and some times near 100%

This High CPU usage is also a problem that has just started recently on my G4/667/1.5Gig Ram with a "Giga" 1.33GHz upgrade running System 10.4.10. My machine has been wonderful for years with this processor. I'm running Safari 2.0.4. When i did the last upgrades to my software I started having some real bad behavior from my mac. High CPU usage in safari (80-98%) for 3-5 minutes then normal like now I'm at 6-10% (Normal)as I type this in Safari. Safari is crashing when I try to open the Apple in store training site! Mail was crashing on my wife's login not mine though. Throwing out her mail Prefs fixed that. The Upgrades that seem to trigger this are Java for Mac OS 10.4 Release 6, Quick Time 7.3.1, GarageBand 4.1.1, iPhoto Update, iTunes 7.5. It sure feels like that last set of upgrades has made a mess of my mac. I suspect the Java update. How do I fix this mess???? [email protected]

you can't rely on norton antivirus.

  • High CPU Usage from "System Interrupts" when enabling IGP

    Hi
Mainboard is Z87-G43 with bios version 1.5 - OS is Win 8.1 x64
I have screen#1 connected to a geforce 570 graphics card.
Then i enabled the IGP (4770k) in Bios, installed the newest VGA Drivers Version 10.18.10.3277 from MSI homepage and connected screen#2 to IGP (reason is that geforce clocks go to 3D Mode when 2 monitors are connected -> higher power consumption)
Now I have ~10% permanent CPU Usage (80% of CPU1) in Task Manager process "System Interrupts"
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks for help

Problem is gone after reinstalling Windows 8.1 again. (Both times clean install)
Things that have been changed before reinstalling:
    - I updated Bios again with Version 1.5 - this time with BIOS + ME update with M-Flash. I couldnt do this before because with Bios 1.3 it instantly freezed when selecting the bios file for 1.5 update. So i used the forums Flash Tool to get to 1.5 and the updated M-Flash. ME-Version is higher now.
Things that have been changed after reinstalling:
    - I did all windows updates before installing drivers
    - Nvidia drivers is now 331.65 from Windows Update instead of 331.58 from Nvidias HP
    - Intel VGA drivers is now 10.18.10.3316 from Windows Update instead of 10.18.10.3277 from MSI HP
    - Intel ME drivers is now 9.5.15.1730 (2013-10-29) from MSI Homepage (was updated after my download)
Everything else was identical (UEFI Settins, programs...)

  • High CPU usage from cupsd "socket" - possible related to HP photosmart ?

Suddenly my MacBook Pro is very hot - about 170 degrees starting right after it is switched on. Before yesterday, it would vary between about 100 and 120 degrees. I've never seen it this hot.
When I went to the Activity Monitor, the Process Name "socket" under the section "cupsd" is using 99 to 100 cpu. Nothing else is close to this (firefox is using 2).
Yesterday I installed a HP photosmart printer under parallels to work with my windows programs. I had been using the HP photosmart with my mac with no change in the temperature. But I think this is associated with the installation of the HP in the windows environment. Although, parallels is not even running and the CPU usage is still high. So maybe it is not related.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Sounds like the culprit. CUPS stands for Common UNIX Printing System; the cupsd process is the main print engine for OS X.
Run Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, select your HDD and click Repair Permissions.
You might also try trashing your printing preference files (user/library/preferences folder, .plist files with names that start with com.apple.print).
    Hope this helps...
EDIT: There's a nice repair utility (shareware) out there, but it looks like it has not yet been updated for 10.5. Keep an eye out. The Tiger version is here.

  • High CPU usage in system running nothing!!!

    I have a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2
with Coldfusion 9.01 Standard Developer edition
and MS-SQL 2008 Developer database server.
I  use it mostly for testing and development. The system was working just  fine, but suddenly it started timing out queries, slowing down etc.
Even  when nothing (no application, no schedule task, no sites etc) runs in  the system I noticed that it uses 25% - 40% of system CPU.for various  period of times. Sometimes for some minutes, sometimes for many hours or  days. After this period the CPU falls to 0%-1% again and the system  works fine. After some minutes or hours the CPU goes again to 25%-40%  for no reason.
When I disabled the service "ColdFusion Application Server" then the CPU goes to 0%-1% and the system works fine permanently.
I say it again, in the system there is no site, no schedule task, no datasource.
In  the past all I had in the system was a group of Scheduled tasks. So I  deleted all scheduled tasks, I even deleted a datasource to a database I  had. So now there is no CF code running in the system. So then why the  service "ColdFusion Application Server" uses 25% - 40% of CPU resources  ????
    Any ideas ?????
    Anastassios

Yes, Anastassios, it's not as unusual as you think.
I would recommend that you look at the CF runtime (or JRun) logs. If on CF Standard or Enterprise Server, look in \runtime\logs. If running Enterprise Multiserver, look in \logs. In either case, look for the most recently written "out" log (or around the time of the problem). I suspect you're having outofmemory errors (look for that string, specifically, no spaces).
Now, don't assume that if you get them that it means you need to "add more heap". In fact, you may be better suited by using less. The question depends on the error you get. If it says "heap", then perhaps yes you need more heap (but maybe instead something us holding heap longer than it should--yes, even when no requests are running, like sessions, query caches, application scope, etc.)
But the outofmemory error may say something else, like "unable to create new native thread", or "swap space", or "permgen", and so on. These do NOT mean you need to add more heap, and may mean you'd be served well by lowering it.
There are far too many permutations to elaborate. I started a series of entries on the subject:
CF911: Lies, damned lies, and when memory problems not be at all what they seem, Part 1
    http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2010/11/3/when_memory_problems_arent_what_th ey_seem_part_1
I never finished it, but you may get value from what is there to start it out.
I will say that if you are still stumped and need help solving this, this sort of CF server troubleshooting is what I do for a living and I'd be happy to help. I can often solve such problems in less than an hour or two. More at www.carehart.org/consulting/. In any case, I hope the above is enough to get you started on your own.

  • High CPU Usage by System

    Hi guys,
My t420s sometimes gets really slow, and I would appreciate if you can help.
After upgraded to win 8, my t420s (2 cpus 4 cores) sometimes gets really slow (and hot).
If I check the task monitor, it is the system that uses about 30% of CPU. Though there is  still 70% CPU left, everything becomes really slow and non-responsive.
I collect some data and upload the etl file in the following links.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4716318/cpuusage_141231.zip
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4716318/cpuusage_150102.zip
In the first one, we see the system usage shoots up for now reason at the last part of the test.
In the second file, I was running some Fortran code, called Ramsey_SteadyState.exe which reasonably takes some CPU, but system also takes a lot of CPU for the whole test.
    Thanks for the help!

    Badu
In both of these there is a definite problem.  System is using 21% on one process (PID 56 which indicates it is very early in the boot) but it is labeled unknown.  What malware app are you using (it looks avp.exe?).  I would also run a malwarebytes
    scan to eliminate that possibility.
Please download the free version of Malwarebytes.
    Update it immediately.
    Do a full system scan
Let us know the results at the end.
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products
Does the problem exist when you run in safe mode with networking?  To be honest I suspect the fastest way to fix this is a clean install.  We can find out what PID 56 is by running WPR using the boot options. (save your data it will reboot 2-3
    times)

  • Securityd - high cpu usage. Yosemite 10.10.3

    Hi,
I have upgraded to 10.10.3 and I am having issues with the process securityd. It constantly has high cpu usage and its causing the cpu temp to heat up. I did a clean install of yosemite at 10.10.2. Also other weird stuff is happening, such as when i click the button to open the notification/today sidebar, it gets highlighted so i know it has registered the click but the sidebar doesn't open. When i click it again, it opens.
Any Ideas to fix this that ideally don't require a full reinstall (Doing exams at the moment, takes time to reinstall stuff).
I have the latest 15 inch retina macbook pro. 2.2 i7 and 16gb ram.
    Thanks,

  • Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while...

Skype 4.2.0.11 has abnormally high CPU usage while idle.
I can't get my laptop under 70 degrees celsius unless I cpulimit or quit skype, and cpulimiting it actually makes it completely unresponsive, as if some other thread is constantly generating a lot of work and taking priority over the UI thread.
What the heck is skype doing? (And why do any of its threads need nice -10?) It takes up more CPU time than pulseaudio, truecrypt, and deluged combined.
Its CPU usage is constantly between 5 and 50 percent*, it's absolutely horrible.
*While idle. I'm unable to make calls.
I know this is expected from a linux user, but for all I know, Skype is malware. It's not open-source, so I can't find out for myself, and there are no open-source alternatives so the frankly shameful amount of bugs I encounter in Skype will never be fixed.
There are several bugs I'd love to be fixed in Skype, but first, PLEASE, optimize your code. It's absolutely horriffic at the moment.

Attached are statistics from my desktop over approximately a 24 hour period for the processes shown (other than firefox and adb).
Pulseaudio tops skype this time but that's because I've had music playing through mpd for a few hours. Skype uses more than 16 times the CPU that pidgin does, and almost double the RAM! RAM isn't shown in the screenshot but take my word for it. Bear in mind that I haven't taken (or made) any calls in this period of time, and pidgin has been signed into three different services and using encrypted chat.
I really wish that at least the protocol would be documented so someone could work around this, at the moment I don't think the guys writing skype realize just how unstable the linux port is. At least it's better than the Android port.
[Edit for those unfamiliar with linux processes: "TIME" is the cumulative time that the program has been scheduled for on any core, effectively making it a measure of total CPU usage for a given time period]

  • High CPU usage when downloading from ITunes Match

When attempting to download matched songs from ITunes Match, ITunes utilization spikes to over 70% and makes it almost impossible to do any other function on the computer.  Eventually ITunes fails to respond.  I have tried several remedies including reseting winsock.  Is there any other options I should try?

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

  • High cpu usage when the system is idle

I do have a high cpu usage problem when the system is idle. I bought the laptop (lenovo x230 tablet) with windows 7 installed in it. Then upgraded to windows 8. But ever since I have problems with high cpu usage by the system even when the computer is idle.
Only the system by itself uses around 30% of the cpu all the time. I ran xperf, and here is the result of it:
    http://sdrv.ms/Kj6CFN
I appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I'm sorry for that the log you provide can't be opened on my computer. While according to your description, it should had a special process that consume CPU usage when system idle Iguess, isn't it?
    You can use
Process Explorer to monitor the process activity, may be we can find the reason of this problem.
Note: We can use Process Explorer to check the Stack of every process then analyize the problem in deep.
To gave a better insight about this problem, you can take a ScreenShot for this problem and provide the picture here.
