Z87 G45 No Post No Display
This seems to be a common issue, but after setting up my system using this motherboard, the system fails to post, and no display is sent to the monitor. When powered on, the fans and lights (including the audio boost light) will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off and turn back on, after which they continue to stay on until I power down the system. I've heard that psu compatibility with haswell might be an issue. I have an NZXT Hale 82 850W PSU, and I can't find any information on its compatibility with haswell. Does anyone know what the issue could be, or information on whether or not my psu is compatible?
System information:
Case: NZXT Phantom 410
Motherboard: msi z87 g45 gaming
CPU: Intel i7 4770k
Ram: 4x8 Corsair Vengeance 1866 MHz
PSU: NZXT Hale 82 850W
GPU: Sapphire Vapor X Radeon 7970 GHz edition 3GB
HDD: Hitachi 1TB 7200 RPM
SSD: Samsung 830 120GB

Bought a new power supply. The thermaltake smart m series 850W. Should be haswell compatible. I ended up with the same result. No post, no display, and it powers on, powers off, and then stays on. I guess I'll try to rma the board, though due to the seemingly high frequency if this issue, I'm afraid a new board will just yield the same result... After which... I'm not sure what to do.
Any verification of that?

Z87 G45 GAMING post flash no display
I just flashed my bios with the windows tool after getting it from Live Update, but when i restarted afterwards my monitor isn't receiving any output from my graphic card (GeForce GTX760). I even tried the inbuilt graphic card in the motherboard without luck.
I can't really access the computer without a monitor unless i can fix the problem while working "blind".
I hope someone can give me a hint or some instructions to how i can get my computer back and working
From
HeavyharperTry >>Clearing CMOS<<. Alternatively try the recovery tips here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174985.0
Else your board is bricked and can only be recovered with an SPI Flash programming device by a pc-shop or MSI. If still under warranty you can rma it. -
MSI 870 g45 no post no display
Just got everything in from newegg. Everything is hooked up and connected properly. When I turn it on the lights come on and the fans spin. But I get no post and no display. I have narrowed it down to the powersupply. It has the 20+4 connector, the main rail for the mobo supports all 24 and it does what's stated above. But I noticed the 4 pin for the CPU power has no plug. So I plugged the 4 pin into the CPU power but I just get a flash when the power button is pushed.
Any advice? That 4 pin from the 20+4 does not go to CPU power. Your PSU has either a single 4 pin, 4+4 or 8 pin that can be separated into 4+4. They will have black and yellow wires only, no other color of wires on CPU power will be on them.
If you still have a prom after properly connecting all of the power cables then remove everything from the case and place on a non-conducting brown cardboard surface, connect everything up again and re-test. Motherboard, 1 memory module in DIMM 1, VGA with 6 pin power 1 or 2 or whatever your VGA has, HDD, ODD.

MSI z87-g45 no post screen with gpu
Hi,
This is a strange problem. I had windows 8.1 installed using the onboard gpu - i5-4670k and then I bought a MSI r9-280x to add to this new system.
When I plugged the new board in I couldn't enter the bios screen or see any post or windows starting screen. After a few seconds the windows main screen shows up so it gets into windows fine and I could install the new drivers for it etc.
Now whenever I boot it gives me no signal for a few seconds before windows main login screen comes up. No matter what I do I can't get to see the bios screen, even if I try plugging into the onboard graphics.
I think I do get into the bios because if I use the keyboard to enter the bios it never boots windows so is probably sitting at the bios screen but not showing anything. The only way I can get it to show the bios screen is to remove the gpu or at least one pci-e power plug from it an use the onboard graphics.
The same goes for booting from a usb stick - no signal but it will just sit there which is far from ideal as I can't run memtest or anything with the gpu plugged in.
I do have an unknown monitor stuck at 640x480 64hz using the ms basic display driver that won't go away but that shouldn't interfere with the BIOS post screen as it takes control before windows even starts.
Anyone have any ideas apart from the usual clear cmos which hasn't worked? I have the latest non beta bios - 1.5I have the same motherboard as you and i have this problem as soon as i flash my R9 290 to a R9 290x.
I have tried the latest beta bios for the mobo, same problem.
I think it's bios related as someone else with a different mobo, fixed the exact same issue on a gigabyte mobo with a bios update.(From OCN)
So i think we have to wait for the next update.
I guess i'm lucky, because after i flash it back the problem is gone.
I'm sorry i couldn't be of more help. -
Z87-g45 not booting, no display
Hi, I'm building a new PC (as the motherboard went on my old one) with the components listed and it refuses to boot.
The fans and lights are all coming on.
I have disassembled and reassembled it.
I have tried starting it without the gfx card.
Without HDD
And just now without any ram whatsoever.
At no point have I seen any display on screen or heard any beeps.
Judging from other posts I was expecting to hear beeps when I tried to start without ram at least.
Any help diagnosing the problem would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I'm a bit terse I'm using my phoneTry a bare bones set-up with a single stick of ram installed into the 2nd DIMM from the cpu.
Then switch sticks/ try different DIMMS.
If all fails, remove the cpu and inspect the cpu socket pins for any even slight damage. Use a bright light and magnifying glass and if necessary correct the problem. -
Z87 G45 No display, no beep, no POST
Hello,
I am a noob builder and am having a bit of trouble. I boot up this build and while everything lights up and appears to be powered, I get no display (VGA or HDMI) and no beep. Sometimes it boots up and just stays on, sometimes it boots up, then powers off for a few seconds and restarts and stays on and sometimes it boots up and won't let me power off so I have to do it from the PSU.
Specs:
Z87 G45 Gaming
i5 4670k
G Skill 1866 Sniper 2x8GB
Corsair RM650
MSI GTX 760 Hawk
Coolermaster Hyper 212
Things I have tried:
- I have disconnnected the GPU for now and until I get this working as from what I have read the GTX 7-- series might present it's own set of problems.
- tried with both sticks of RAM in slots 2 & 4 and each stick separately in slot 2
- tried with no RAM to see if I could be triple beep. Nothing.
- Everything else is disconnected for now
- Both JPWRs are connected (double, triple and quadruple checked)
If you have any advice, I would be most appreciative. If you remove the discrete card then clear the cmos will it boot using onboard vga?
If there is no change, do you have any different ram to try?
If not, remove the cpu and inspect the mainboard's pins with a bright light and magnifying glass. Make sure none of the pins were bent or even slightly altered during install. -
Z87 G45 Gaming no POST, no monitor output
I have a Z87 G45 MB, with i7 4770K Haswell, Sapphire Radeon 7870 GPU, Corsair Vengeance 240 pin DDR3 ram, and a Corsair CX600 PSU.
When I try to turn on the computer the fans start, all the lights light up, and the usb peripherals get power, but there is no monitor output. I've tried taking out the GPU and using onboard video and I've tried switching monitors and cords, and I've switched out RAM and tried different slots, and I've reset the CMOS. The weirdest part is that sometimes it starts up, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's changed when it does start up.Val, the OP's problem is different than yours. No Post is a vague and there are still things we don't know about either of your situations.

Is the system cycling on / off or just no display?
If the system stays running, but there is just no display it sounds like bent cpu socket pins.
If it is cycling there are other test we should try. -
Msi z87-g45 gaming, no display, no beep.
I am building a gaming computer. When i turn on my computer the cpu fan spins quickly then immediately slows down to a slow spinning state. My Boost audio light is on as well. But i get no display. I have tried the DVI HDMI and VGA outputs. I also accidentally pressed the cmos button while the compute was on. I also removed my mobo battery for 5 mins. Oh and on top of all that i dont have my standoffs. So maybe the board is short circuiting. But if that was the case my is my cpu fan remaining on as well as my boost audio light?
Here are my specs:
Ultra 550w ATX Power Supply
2 DDR3 in slots 2 and 4
Cpu with no bent pins (that i can tell)
Thanks for your help.Im having exactly the same problem did you manage to get it working in the end?
The board has been tested by aria computing and came back fine they have also replaced the RAM and CPU incase they were the problem. Il list all the things Iv tried so far. Thing that gets me is there is no beep when I turn it on so something is wrong and im banging my head against the wall not being able to figure it out.
Checked both power connections many many times
Check for shorts
Changed power supply
Changed RAM (and tested in all configerations)
Tested 3 monitors on all ports (onboard DVI, VGA and HDMI)
Put 3 GPU's in it as well and tested all ports on them
Tested on a low end CPU
Tried out of case with just power leads and a monitor connected (no HD,USB,frount audio)
Reset COSMOS and checked the battery
Here are the specs

Blank Screen No Beep No Post on new Z87-G45 Gaming
I posted this on another forum, but since I think my issue might be a bit different I figured a new message would be better.
I switch on older mobo with the this one, new ram, and new Cpu.
When I power it on everything spins up but no post no screen no beep nothing....just spinning fans.
I did all the tests, plugs, bent socket, ram chips, etc...
Since I was switching out a older motherboard with this one, I knew my power supply was good but who knows.
Today. I took a case and stripped it down to metal...put in all the correct mounts in the correct positions, new (in box) Antec 650W PSU
Mounted the board in the new case, connected the speaker, usbs and switches. Plugged in the PSU.
Note: I didn't hook up anything. No Hard disk, no DVD drive, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing.
plugged in the monitor (via DVI)
turned it on...same result. Spinning CPU fans but no beep and a blank screen.
BTW, I registered at the MSI support site but since I send in my serial number tag for the rebate I couldn't register a product.
MOBO: Z87-G45 Gaming purchased 12/30/2013
CPU: i7 4771
RAM: Patriot 2x8GB (in slot 2 and slot 4) PC3-15000 1866Mhz
PSU: Antec 650W
Yesterday I even pulled out the multimeter and started look at the voltage numbers...not that I know what they are supposed to be.
What else can I try?
Any help would be great and thank you!
GeneJust an update.
I returned the board to Fry's and while there, there was someone else returning the same board for the exact same reason. He got a different board and I just exchanged mine for the same model (even though it was an open box).
I followed xmad's advice and did a out of case test with it. While sitting on the plastic 'Conductive Grid Bag, I plugged in the CPU, the RAM and the power. Hooked up the DVI and turned on the power.
and....got a message on the screen about the amount of memory has changed.
I'll take that. Putting the board in the case and hooking up all the wires now.
Thank you xmad for helping me out....at least I know I wasn't going insane. -
Z87 - G45 Display ports not working
I recently bought a custom computer from cyberpowerpc.com with a Z87-G45 motherboard and an AMD 7700 graphics card.
When customizing this PC I had the goal of dual monitoring in mind, thinking I could use a port from the motherboard for one and then a HDMI to DVI port on the 7700 for the other.
When I opened the box to set up the computer none of the display ports on the Z87-G45 work. No HDMI, VGA, or the DVI.
I am currently using the HDMI port on the 7700 to a DVI for one monitor and wanted to run the second monitor off the VGA on the motherboard. None of the display ports work at all on the Z87-G45 whether trying to run 1 monitor or 2.
I've tried installing the VGA drivers from the MSI website but it gives me an error message saying I don't meet the minimum spec standards which I am sure that I do.
I've also ran the Live Updater 5 installing the new bios and other updates. I also tried to get the drivers from the black CD that came with the order but I was unable to click the driver box from it being faded out and unselected.
Can anyone help me find a way to get the ports on the motherboard working? As well as helping me determine if I can actually run two monitors with one off the 7700 and the other off the motherboard?
Thanks! So I took your advice, returned the Hd7770 and got the 2gb HD7870 then watched a youtube video on how to install a video card.
I tested it on playing Diablo 3 and Star Craft 2. Reset video settings to defaults. Now both games seem to be a little jumpy on the video. SC2 detected the video card and loaded the suggested settings. When I play SC2 it seems a bit laggy and the video freezes then jumps every now and then. Same with D3 when I increase the video settings for the shadows, and foreground and background frame rates.
It seems odd that it would be jumpy for SC 2 using the suggestest settings for my video card.
Could it be something else on my setup that is holding the game back?
Could I have installed the video card incorrectly? Would it work/ be detected if I hadn't?
Everything seemed fine when I used the HD7770 and I didn't notice much of a change in the video settings for either game, but I am assuming there would be. -
So for the past 2 months I've been looking for an answer for this little problem of mine, I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong but anyways here's the problem: I just built a new PC, nothing super fancy but it is my first PC build. The first mobo I used was the ASUS A55BM-K and a one 4gb stick of RAM. I grounded my self and started building, CPU, MOBO, GPU, PSU, etc. Then I turned it on, the lights flashed and fans began to spin, but no display on my monitor. Everywhere I checked suggested many things which I did then I did last resort and figured I burned out my mobo or RAM, so I purchased the MSI Z87-G45 gaming mobo and 2x2gb GSkill sticks of RAM. Connected everything and no avail. Please can someone help?
ok you have missed some helpful information we could use to see if something is wrong like your parts list >>Posting Guide<< and be specific as it will help us work it out!
is the computer in the case or outside the case (always suggest that people try the parts outside the case on a non conductive surface (untreated wood or cardboard) to rule out a short under the board coming from the case<--- I do that every build so I can make sure if everything is ok before putting it in a case as its a pain if something is defective and you have to rip it all back out again)? -
I recently built a new pc in November and haven't had a problem with it until now. It doesn't post doesn't beep and won't boot as well. No display and it does this very thing with nothing plugged in at all (obviously the psu is plugged in).
My specs:
Msi z87 g45 gaming
I5-4670k (not over clocked yet)
Gtx 660
Corsair vengeance 2x4 gb ram
60 gb Kingston SSD
Evga supernova nex750b psu
The problem started yesterday when I had removed all of my components to route my psu cables.
After getting everything installed correctly I plugged it in and hit the power button and it came on for a second and turned back off I thought I had forgotten to plug the 8 pin cpu power in until it turned on a second later and immediately turn off. I quickly killed the power and had a look inside but nothing appeared to be wrong.
Now every time I turn it on it sits there turning on and off until I unplug it.
I've tried switching the ram the psu and reseating the cpu several times and nothing works.
I did manage to get it to stay on by shorting a jumper labeled "J1" but there's no display or anything other then the fans and LEDs being on.
Anyone know what could cause this? Everything is brand new and has only been running for a month and was running two days ago.I have tried clearing CMOS by the button the battery and the jumper.
The only bios setting that I changed was to set my ram to run at 1600mhz which is what it's rated for (it was running at 1333 on the auto setting)
The thing that puzzles me is that J1 jumper that is right next to dim 1.
If I hold a screwdriver to it during the power cycling thing it stays on as long as it's being shorted but I don't get a display or anything everything is on and spinning but it doesn't boot. As soon as I take it off it reverts back to the cycle of on and off.
I've searched google for any possible incompatibilities or fixes but I couldn't find any.
Also something I forgot, I accidentally bent one of my usb 3.0 pins to the point where it touched another pin. Could this have caused my problem? If so rma wouldn't work cause I bent a pin. I'm totally fine with buying a new board but I'm not sure if it's the board or some other component. -
I am having an issue with the BIOS displaying 99 degrees Celsius in the BIOS menu. It ramps up rather quick loading into the BIOS from around 50 degrees to 99 which it stays at. Touching the heatsink itself it feels cool to the touch which leads me to believe its not displaying the temps right. Also in windows my idle temps are around 45-55 but under load they can go up to the high 90's.
I am using a MSI Z87-G45 board with a 4670k Haswell which I know run a lot hotter and seems to cap at 100 degrees with just the stock cooler... well until my new cooler ships.
If I were to guess I would say it seems the BIOS is putting some load on the CPU, which would be fine just seems odd. Any insight anyone had on this situation would be great as the little research I have done I have never seen anyone open up the BIOS to temps any higher then 55 degrees on YouTube.
Thanks guysI just checked that literally after posting that thread. I was certain that it was seated well as I've been playing all types of games on it with no issues but thought I would reapply some paste... only to see that it didn't even make contact. Makes me remember why I'm not a huge fan of the stock Intel cooler hold downs. Now I'm bordering on embarrassed and amazed that the CPU didn't start frying or at least restarting.
Thanks for the help none the less. -
Bootable Bios Flash Drive for Z87-G45
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I've been going around in circles trying to find a definitive post related to my problem.
I've got a problem with a PC running the Z87-G45 mobo. It worked fine for about a year. Since shutting it down the last time (perhaps coincidentally, there was a Win update that ran prior to shutdown), I can't get it to even make it to the dragon splash screen. It hangs at "A2" (displayed in lower-right corner). If I spam F1 and Del, it says "Entering Setup...", but goes no further. If I clear the CMOS, I get a screen that seems to recognize all my key hardware (though I don't know if that's a dynamic check or if it's simply pulling the last settings from BIOS or wherever), but pressing neither F1 (enter BIOS) or F2 (continue) does anything.
I want to try flashing the BIOS, but I can't get into the BIOS to set the boot order or to use the MFlash utility. I need a truly bootable flash-BIOS drive. In other words, it needs to use the boot drive prior to trying to run the mobo BIOS, which fails. Is that possible? Also, I need to be able to tell it to boot off the USB without accessing setup. I read a post that suggested that spamming the Home key would accomplish this. Is that true?
I can find any number of posts for creating a bootable flash drive, but they all seem to suppose that I can access the BIOS setup. I would be grateful for any guidance.
Thank you kindly,
BobbyHi,
Try clearing CMOS again: >>Clear CMOS Guide<< Your board has a button on the I/O panel (as far as I remember) so unplug power cord, remove battery and hold the button for 10 seconds.
Yes you need to be able to boot from USB, but since it doesn't pass "A2" part, it might be hard. Or to get into BIOS to use MFlash
What I suggest you do is:
disconnect all hard drives and hardware that is not required for boot (such as keyboard, DVD ROM, mouse, speakers, graphics card etc). Clear CMOS then too and see if it goes through.
Also try the same but outside of the case on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box.
Try swapping RAM stick around the slots and see if it POSTs.
If by any chance it works when you have everything disconnected, try adding components one by one until it hangs again. -
MSI Z87-G45 GAMING.. does the killer networking work with Windows 8.1?
I was scrolling through the reviews for this board and someone mentioned in the reviews that the killer networking isnt supported with windows 8.1 yet.
Is this still true or are there updated drivers for windows 8.1 now?
Thanks. There is a driver posted on MSI's website for 8.1.
