Z87-GD65 BIOS A Issue

New to the forum and MSI boards.
This happened about a month ago when I was using "Live Updater" (I know, BIG mistake). My system crashed during the update and would not restart afterward. The screen would just go black then the system would restart and sit with a black screen. At the the time I needed my system running and just booted up using BIOS B. Everything worked and is working fine when using BIOS B. So now that I have a little extra time on my hands I decided I would fix the corrupted BIOS, but I'm unable to get the USB drive to boot. I tried the method of booting with the good BIOS and then flipping the switch to the failed one and flashing from the USB drive. It got about 50% and my system reset with the same black screen. My debug is coming up with code 36. Any ideas?
System specs:

Last week I replaced a defective Z77-GD65 with a new one. Since the first one came without an operational BIOS last August (I fixed that somehow with a BIOS-update on a memory stick, but I can't remember how I did that!) I just assumed the BIOS on the new board would be outdated too. So after a succesful trial boot-up I updated the BIOS (10.8 to 10.10).
After that, I could no longer boot into Windows: soon after starting the OS-boot the system would restart. Back to 10.8 I have had no more trouble. I am thinking the newest BIOS-version is no good.
Are you talking about a Z77 and not a Z87 as listed in the topic title? Did you post in the wrong thread?

    Yep:
A.) Download the attached archive (E7845IMS_1B0.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:
Hello i have done exactly as mention above and followed the flash instructions. After the flash is done and cmos reset i enter bios to do the load optimized default. then i see it says bios 1.11 (again) Then i have to do all previous forum thread steps  to get it back to E7845IMS.190. And that is the highest firmware possible for me to install on A bios. The bios B is 1.14. I have now been trying with this for about 9 hours now. And i do have flashed alot of bioses on motherboards over the years, for about 15 years or so. And this is by far the most complicated motherboard i ever been touching "for doing a bios update". Hope you can help me fix this. I really got tierd with this all struggling.

  • Z87-GD65 BIOS Issue

I am working on this motherboard trying to figure out why its not booting. Originally the BIOS update was interrupted. When I started the system up I get error code 36 for a few seconds, then F2, then the system reboots and starts the cycle over. I ran into the same issue recently on the same board. I resolved it last time by using the multi-bios to refresh the BIOS and that solved the issue. It looks like I had the same issue with it again, but this time the BIOS switch it not making any difference. Any alternate options on this subject?

I find it surprising the backup bios did not help , did you flip the switch during update process or something? again do a proper cmos clear ie remove the psu, remove the cmos battery and hold the power button for 15 sec and then the cmos jumper all while in working bios B and no extra component other than cpu and 1 stick of ram.
Yeah I gave that a shot. Still the same error code as before. I dont know what happened to this motherboard im just fixing it for a friend.

  • Z87-gd65 bios problem

    Hi,
Had issue with a A2 error code on my MB. I try to flash BIOS to latest version and Computer stay blocked on black screen.
Using second boot bios i try to fix it, but get message : Invalid ROMID when flashing it with Mflash or Forum HQ flasher...
Anyone has the same issue ?
    Thanks,

With M-Flash are you selecting the BIOS Update 'BIOS + ME' choice? I have a feeling the ME firmware is not getting flashed. Also, please clarify as you can damage the board if you switch BIOS chips with power on and when booted into the OS.

  • Z87-GD65 BIOS Wont Load

I was working my OC and my BIOS A wont load, i had to switch to BIOS B so my question is how do i reset BIOS A if i can't even get it to load up. I cant find a bios reset switch anywhere in the manual.

Youre not alone, i got the very same error here. I can't enter my Bios A not more even not with the special updating tool they did makeL https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=160450.0 Even booting up from a stick or from a disc or Cd-rom/DVD with this tool i cen't enter it again. On the Led Code issue error 66 with CPU utilization While tunning with Bios B its more instable with running extra hardware features include with software. Complete freezes and BSOD's.  All be done after installing to Bios 1.7 update...
I hope you will found a way personally out too...

  • Z87 GD65 Bios code 04

Hi guys. I'm getting a bios post code of 04 after bios goes through all the codes it then jumps to 04. computer has booted up ok and windows 8 is running. Have done a few GPU benchmarks and running good. Just confused as to what the code 04 is telling me. Going by the manual power on south bridge initialization is the code but i cant find any useful info from google. I have updated my bios but still not fixed.

Quote from: chrisjb on 22-October-13, 07:55:49
I had the 04 code and worked out that by unchecking  'turn on fast startup'  under power options / choose what the power buttons do/  change settings that are currently unavailable/  solve this issue and my post led changed back to A0 on every startup.  This is assuming you are using windows 8.
Not working here buddy.  I did post my findings of what the codes were for my board over past few weeks, but unfortunately, the powers that be, have deleted it?
I will say, before this gets deleted also (and I have taken screens also), that I am mostly on 04 or 03 codes now.  Very rarely do I hit A0, unless I force it to (again, was explained in what was deleted), but I'm going for an RMA now.  Based on the evidence I have, and the disgraceful treatment in here, I have no worries as to getting my money back
    Already looking at alternative boards

  • Help! Bios+ME Z87-GD65 Bios update will not work

    Hey everyone,
I'm having an issue, trying to update the bios. I'm currently on 1.3 and trying to update to 1.B to no success.
I have run live update 6.11 which found the new bios and went to install, but because i run win7x64 it looks for Intel Management engine driver which is not available for the board, as it appears, as its installing the Intel ME driver it comes up saying my PC doesn't meet the requirements, assuming that because of x64 OS. ((OR ITS TOO AWESOME)) So No bios update..
So i then used the files i downloaded from MSI website for BIOS 1.B, go to m-flash in the bios, follow the prompts for "bios flash with ME" and FROZEN!
Nothing happens and if i didn't knock the mouse i wouldn't have realized for some time.. No progress bar no anything, frozen screen, so i hit RESET ! Try again... nothing... Same ...
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Raid Issues.

    Hi All,
I have been trying to setup a raid using the Intel raid controller. Its finished initializing, but the speeds I am seeing are terrible.
They usually are down about 20MB/sec, but I have seen them drop to 10MB/sec and below.
Individually writing to each hard drive is fine, each has been tested and has no bad sectors.
But when I combine then into raid, speeds go down the drain.
Does anyone have any pointers as to get me closer to proper speeds?
    Thanks,
    Smashwa.
    * EDIT * Should have mentioned that I'm using all the latest drivers available from the MSI website, along with the latest BIOS.

    Hi there,
    What is your hardware sepcs?
    What OS you are running?
What form of RAID you have put them and in what setup?
and what you use to test them?
    Cheers, Mummy
    Hi Mummy (that sounds weird....)
    Specs:
    I7 4770
    Z87-DG65
    16GB Corsair RAM
    OS is Windows 7.
I have 5 drives setup in a Raid5, with 64k blocks. All drives are Western Digital 2TB Red WD20EFRX.
Each drive test fine with both HD Tune and Windows copy speeds are as expected. But when I add them to raid and test, its shocking. Sata cables are all new that came with the mobo.

  • Z87 GD65 bios flash result in freeze.

    Hey guys,
    First time MSI customer here.
I bought the GD65-Gaming, it came with bios v1.1, downloaded v1.9, formatted a USB stick to FAT32, copied the file E7845IMS.190 to the root of the USB stick, went to bios, m-flash chose the 2nd option (bios + ME), chose the file and it just froze. I waited 3-4 minutes and nothing was showing on the screen and i was not able to move the mouse cursor. I tried two different USB keys, one NTFS and one FAT32. none of which worked.
    Am Running 4770k , gtx 670, 16gb kingston beast @ 1333mhz and Windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition.
Please help me resolve this, I'm pleading you.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

  • Z87-GD65 Bios Update

    Hello everyone,
I've been using Bios V1.10B1 since it's available. But to be honest I'm not quite pleased with it. I guess it's one of those Beta bioses. Having some stability issues with my RAM modules or something which I didn't have at v1.5. I had a random freeze since I did the update and also today the PC was rebooted while loading the windows 8.1. Then it booted fine. I'm not sure what cause this but I'm suspecting it's the bios.
Anyways. Now I'm planning to do another BIOS update. But the latest BIOS versions on the official page and the forum flash tool page (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=169827.0) are different. Which one is the most stable and the official one? I don't want to hit another beta bios. The flashing process is stressful enough. :P

I finally managed to finish the BIOS Update by using the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher with the attached archive 1A0.rar and all that seems to have changed within the BIOS were under System Information in „Settings\System Status“: (1.) CPUID/MicroCode has changed from 306c3/17 to 306c3/19, (2.) BIOS Version from E7845IMS V1.9 to E7845IMS V1.10, (3.) Built Date from 02/21/2014 to 06/04/2014 and (4.) that all settings except date & time were set back to defaults. I never thought that a BIOS update can take so long and be so complicated, but maybe this is only an indication that I am not a professional BIOS updater or/and that something went wrong.
Since the MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool came as an installer only, I had to take an image of my Windows-System first and restore it after the BIOS update in order to avoid a permanent entry in the Control Panel under Programs. When I used the HP-Tool HPUSBFW_v2.2.3.exe for formatting the USB-Stick (4GB) the MSIHQ Forum USB flasher would install to it, but it was ignored by the BIOS under Boot Option #1 as if it wasn’t there, so that I had to use the „Fix my USB key“ choice of MSIHQ. The Memtest86+ seems to go on forever or until hitting ESC to quit this which I did after about almost an hour when 100% Pass was reached without Error and no indication that this test would stop on its own. There was no BACKUP.BIN file created on the USB-Stick as the README.txt indicated in case a BIOS recovery was needed, but I saved the previous BIOS before this Update using M-FLASH. The Clear CMOS Button on the Back Panel is a bit difficult to push, but it is easier than opening the case and finding a fitting jumper for JBAT1. And finally, reinstalling the Intel ME 90 Driver in Windows 7 over an already exixting installation made me a bit uneasy, but my Windows did not crash and there is still only one corresponding entry „Intel Management Engine Components“ under Programs.
The use of M-FLASH was easier and according to the descriptin of this new BIOS v1.10 the M-FLASH function was to be enhanced, which sounds promising to strenghten hopes and nourish spirits for a better future .

  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming - Audio issues

Something keeps crashing the Windows Audio Service in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
This is a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64, using just the standard software that came on the MSI supplied CD.
I go into the "Sound" menu on control panel, do *anything* at all.. and all my devices disappear in front of my eyes.
I go into the Realtek HD Audio Manager, do *anything* at all, and all my devices disappear in front of my eyes.
I go into the Sound Blaster Cinema program, do *anything* at all, and all my devices disappear in front of my eyes.
In all cases, this is because the Windows Audio Service is crashing or stopping.  It's set to "automatic" in services.msc, it runs for a moment.  But the minute I go to make *any* changes which require the Windows Audio Service to function, it crashes.
I have tried downloading the latest driver package from Realtek..  Installs fine, but same issue.
I have tried disabling potentially competing audio devices in the Windows Device Manager... these would be the "Nvidia High Definition Audio" and "Nvidia Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)..    No change.
I tried disabling the digital output on the Realtek..   No change.
I really need some help with this one.. I'm at my wits end.   Suggestions?

    Good call there, Bmxjumperc..
Uninstalled all the realtek software, Windows automatic bits took over.. a few configurations, and bam.. I now have 5.1 audio coming out where it's supposed to.
Which makes me really really wonder why, if Microsoft can do this with generic drivers, that a company like Realtek can't build a driver package to save their ass for hardware that they *designed and built*??
Somebody in their customer service dept is gonna have a bad day here in a few min. *chuckles*
    Thanks for the help!

  • Z87-gd65 Bios Problems?

    Hello!
Last night (saturday 18th) i turned off this damn computer before going to bed, next day it started up, but the screen was all black.
After looking into it, (removing ram, checking psu, gpu, cpu) i found out that by switching over the dual bios button to the 2nd bios its all good again. Ofc im back to bios version 1.00, but atleast it works now. the other bios (lets call it 1) is currently up to date, and worked fine untill i turned the computer off last night (saturday) tried clearing cmos, and pushing all the clear godknowswhat buttons i found on the motherboard, but the sceen still goes black. Was thinking i could flash the bios, but with a black screen, flashing the defective bios seems to be pretty hard.. can i conclude to a defective motherboard/bios or are there any other things i can do before risking flashing this one that works to the newest version (through live update) ? Should this go under some sort of waranty? its barely a year old.
and i know.. the english sucked.. im scandinavian.. accept it :P

Quite unlikely that bios a simply gone bad but let's try reflashing it:
A.) Download >>this<< bios archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< .
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version

  • Z68A-GD65 BIOS Update Issue

I am trying to install a R290X and I know I have to update the BIOS to an Ivy bridge code. I downloaded the official MSI BIOS update tool from the boards as well as the latest BIOS. I created a thumb drive with the BIOS and when I go to flash the BIOS I get an error (see attachment). Any clue how to fix it? I tried to find something about switching to the second BIOS so I could download it from UEFI to the flash drive to reflash primary BIOS but no dice.

what is your current BIOS version?
and have you tried the card with it anyway?
and which one BIOS you are trying to flash? 25.8 or...?
if your current BIOS is for SB, then you need a special archive to be able to switch to IB BIOS

  • MSI z77a-gd65 BIOS flashing issues

I just got my new MSI 970 and when i tried to install it i got the same error as this guy: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183602.0
I do the USB flashing steps posted in the thread and i get an error "There is a problem with the GbE binary which prevents saving the data" and then it says update complete and nothing has changed.
I looked around a bit and found this thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183673.0 in which there was a similar problem that was solved by removing the "-savemac" option. This is where i am stuck at the moment as i cant find a file in the USB where a "-savemac" option is used, what should i do now?

I think thats what i've been doing though, i can see two different boot selections with the USB, one with [UEFI]"USBname" and one without. I''ve been using the one without.
    oki, that's correct
make usb key by following this guide:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0
then try to boot from the USB key
if you still can't boot try with different memory stick
if you able to boot then go back to windows and prepare the stick with usb tool and proceed with update
