Z87-GD65 debug code 03 problem

Hello
my system specs:
cpu: i7 4770k
motherboard: z87 GD65 (1.9 installed)
SSD: Samsung 840evo msata (windows 7 x64 ultimate)
PSU: evga g2 1300W
GPU: 3 * Toxic 280x (11221-01-40g)
RAM: 2 * 4gB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3-2400mHz
3 * x16 powered riser
I'll use this pc for litecoin mining also sometimes for gaming (dota 2). If I plug my gpu to motherboard without PCI riser cable there is no problem but I want to use PCI riser (x16). When I plug x16 riser to motherboard, it doesn't work (actually working with 03 error) debug leds showing "03" and after 15 seconds, motherboard restart itself for one time.
I already tried as follows:
with riser cable, without gpu. (gen3 gen2 gen1 auto, tried all of them)    debug code 03
with riser cable, with gpu.      (gen3 gen2 gen1 auto, tried all of them)    debug code 03
without riser cable, with gpu.                                                                    everything is okay
without riser cable, without gpu.                                                               everything is okay
How I can use PCI risers for my graphic cards_? please advice.
Thanks...

Bumps are not allowed and will probably be removed.

As mentioned before, this is a non standard configuration attempt and the forum does not assist with it.
sorry for bump.
okay, maybe someone can explain how can i assemble this 3 gpu to my motherboard, there is not enough space for 3 gpu, because toxic 280x is thicker than double slot (2.2 slot).

FYI with some BIOSes the A0 code is changed to show the temp in C instead
Oh, that's a nice feature. Which BIOS for GD65?

    You have 3 PCI-E x16 slots (x8-x4-x4) and 4 PCI-E x1 slots.
On the other hand, your CPU is limited to 16 PCI-E lanes.
Those 3 x RB44Ge routers are PCI-E x4, so you're going to use ALL the PCI-E x16 slots for them.
With the remaining PCI-E lanes you need to be lucky ...

  • Z77a-GD65 Debug Code 49 (Reboot cycle)

Saw a post about guidelines for posting threads here, lost it though. Sorry.
    Mainboard: MSI Z77a-GD65 Rev2.1
    BIOS Version: 10.5
    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4GHz
    Memory: 4x4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 (PC-12600), 1.65v
    Graphics: MSI 670GTX
    Storage: OCZ Agility3 240GB SSD, Seagate 2TB 7200RPM
    PSU: Corsair HX750 (750W)
So the machine runs fine on default settings. I really can't complain about the performance, but there's a small issue. The BIOS reads the ram as 1333MHz and the automatic voltage is 1.5v. The information for the memory says it's rated at 1.65v and 1600MHz. If I change the settings in the BIOS to 1600MHz it will run, usually. If I set it to 1.65v, it doesn't run at all. Last night, after messing with it for a while the 1600MHz tweak worked, but this morning after a cold start up I ran into the problem again.
The actual issue is that it gets into a reboot cycle until the BIOS eventually resets itself. The last code on the debug LED is 49. I can't find documentation about what that specific code means. I've run MemTest86, the memory reads fine.
I've already contacted both MSI and Kingston explaining the issue to see if either side might have an idea, but thought I'd check here to get a broader chance at finding the issue. Any help is appreciated.
    To clarify:
    1333MHz and 1.5v works fine.
1600MHz and 1.5v works, usually. Doesn't seem to work from a cold start. Debug code 49 if it gets into a boot-loop.
1600MHz and 1.65v never works. Debug code 49.

I'm back again, and with SOME good news.
I just got my RMA'd kit of memory (2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LP, XMP: 10-10-10-27, 1600MHz, 1.5v), installed them into DIMMs 2 and 4. Reset my CMOS and when it started up prompted me about the change in memory. Went in, turned on XMP and changed nothing else - it went back into that code 49 death spiral. Swapping back and forth between the two BIOS and turning on the OC Genie, it's gotten to the desktop now. Without the Genie on though, it just keeps rebooting. I guess I'm cool with it, but I really wanted to do the overclocking myself.
It's currently running (mostly) stable at 4.0GHz on the CPU and the expected XMP values on the memory. So far the only problem I've run into was a red screen (VGA related, might be the MSI After Burner) but that's an issue for another forum I suppose. It still stutters when booting up though, which has me concerned. I'm wondering if maybe it has been the motherboard this whole time - or maybe the CPU. Or maybe I just don't get what the deal is with these settings anymore. It HAS been something like 6 years since I put a computer together from scratch. I feel like an old man with how so much has so much has changed, even knowing it's just details that shouldn't really be crippling me this much.
At this point I guess I just need to break it in to see that it's kosher.
Thanks again for all the quick responses xmad, and for your input as well flobelix and Bernhard. If any of you have any more thoughts, please share.

Try building this outside of the case on a non-conductive suface w/ only the cpu , cooler, psu and 1 stick of memory.
Finally, while it is out of the case, remove the cpu and inspect the cpu pins with a bright light and hd zoom or a magnifying glass. Perhaps you bumped the cooler or something and damage occured. (Those pins will bend very easily) Even one just slightly out of line can cause this.

  • Z87-GD65 Mosfet Quality Problem?

I've been looking for some info or datasheet about Z87-GD65 mosfets. But only info I could find is they are some low rds(on) K03J5 / K03J3 from Renesas. But actually there aren't any bit of info&datasheet on Renesas's website. After mailing to Renesas then I found out that it's EOL product and not supported anymore.
    That's kinda worrying.
Even G43 is using the same LFPAKs as MPower. G45 has some decent Powerpaks from ON Semi. XPower has some nice Powerstages from IR.
In recent years D letter in "GD" line has the meaning of the DrMOS mosfets. But now it's kinda gimmicky that GD has somewhat inferior-or unknown quality stuff...
It's really weird to see that MSI is kind of cheaping out on their more expensive and somewhat flagship gaming motherboard. I guess they are just telling reviewers to not removing the heatsink and find out what lies below.
Now I start understanding why MSI keep losing market share in motherboard industry each year... 6 years ago they were 2nd in fron of Gigabyte. Now Gigabyte is almost in the first place and even ASRock is clearly draw away with MSI.
    That's really worrying...

This is a user to user forum, please contact MSI for exact part numbers etc.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
You found a single review of a Z87I-gd65 which mentioned those part numbers and don't know if that is true and they didn't even know who made them.
    http://extremespec.net/msi-z87i-motherboard-review-design-testing-performance/2/
Also, in any review of any of these boards (both the M-atx and ATX variants all of the reviewers took some time to speak to the quality of the compoents.
The flagship models of MSI are the Mpower Xpower, although the GD65 gaming reviews very well indeed. Much better than the ones you are trying to advertise.

  • Z87 GD65 Bios code 04

Hi guys. I'm getting a bios post code of 04 after bios goes through all the codes it then jumps to 04. computer has booted up ok and windows 8 is running. Have done a few GPU benchmarks and running good. Just confused as to what the code 04 is telling me. Going by the manual power on south bridge initialization is the code but i cant find any useful info from google. I have updated my bios but still not fixed.

Quote from: chrisjb on 22-October-13, 07:55:49
I had the 04 code and worked out that by unchecking  'turn on fast startup'  under power options / choose what the power buttons do/  change settings that are currently unavailable/  solve this issue and my post led changed back to A0 on every startup.  This is assuming you are using windows 8.
Not working here buddy.  I did post my findings of what the codes were for my board over past few weeks, but unfortunately, the powers that be, have deleted it?
I will say, before this gets deleted also (and I have taken screens also), that I am mostly on 04 or 03 codes now.  Very rarely do I hit A0, unless I force it to (again, was explained in what was deleted), but I'm going for an RMA now.  Based on the evidence I have, and the disgraceful treatment in here, I have no worries as to getting my money back
    Already looking at alternative boards

    Hello,
I got this problem with my msi z87 gd65 mobo. It doesn't want to post (no screen or whatsoever). It doesn't give any debug code. And it only starts up when i hold down the start button. I used a 2nd psu as the psu is the problem most of the time but that didn't fix it. Also the no debug code makes me worry about it. I did recet the cmos with the reset cmos button, and that didn't fix it. also no overclocks.

  • Z87-gd65 ethernet problem

Hi I recently bought the z87-gd65 motherboard and just installed it into my computer. Everything is working fine, except the 'killer e2200' ethernet port.
    I am running windows vista 32-bit SP2.
I tried installing the drivers off of the CD that came with the mobo, no luck (Via CD > Network > Killer > KillerSetup_32bit.exe
"Your hardware is not supported on this Windows version. The installer can not continue."
Also, in Device Manager, it shows Ethernet Controller under 'Other Devices' with a Yellow triangle and a ! in it.
(There is no tab for Network)
When I first boot up Windows, I get a popup saying Windows needs the drivers for the Ethernet Controller, so I browsed the CD and no file worked.
Am I going to have to upgrade to Windows 7 or something?

First, try the network driver here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174229.0
I installed this via Device Manage > Update Driver > Browse Computer For Folder > Killer E220x/Win 7(I'm assuming it's backwards compatible with Vista 32bit)
It says it's installed, but it gave me Error Code 39.
Via Properties > Check For Solution... I received this

    Intel Core i7 3820
    Corsair TX850Watt
When i start my pc, it reboot in cycle.

I have check all component of my pc but i don't resolve the problem.
    Thanks.

    Edited version;
Before the purchase of an Intel i7 3820 for your mainboard, please check the UEFI/BIOS version installed. In most cases, there are green stickers on the BIOS chips with the 'as shipped' version written on them. On my X79A-GD65(8D), there are no green stickers, only black chips with red dots. In that situation, the only option is to check the date of manufacture & compare it to the UEFI/BIOS release dates, or contact MSI Tech Support with the serial number so they can check for you what version was shipped on the mainboard.
How do I get my i7 3820 CPU supported? The answer is either use a CPU that is supported (i7 3930k or i7 3960X), & flash the version that supports it, take it to a pc shop that can flash for you, or send it to MSI & have them flash it for you. Please keep in mind, if the mainboard is equiped with two BIOS chips, have both chips A and B flashed.

  • Z87-GD65 USB headset and BIOS 1.7 problems

OK...as i've stated on these forums before there is a problem with attaching USB headsets with this motherboard. There is already many posts about the problem so it "is a problem". F.R.E.Q 5 headphone will not work with the mobo, other people on these forums have also complained about razor headsets not working, as I agree with that it is a well known razor has compatibility issues I still think this is a mobo issue that MSI need to address. Logitech G35 work fines...but every other usb headset i've tried doesnt...this is on both 1.3 bios and 1.6. I've also tried other workarounds to no avail.
Any MSI guys readin this...these are the headphone i'm talking about
    http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/freq5.htm
NOW..the BIOS issue...the new 1.7 that has been released...DONT FLASH IT....it just bricked my mate mobos...lucky the GD65 has dual bios. I tried it to see if it happened to get his freq 5 working...but the PC wouldn't post.
Any comments or development on this situations on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Quote from: Nichrome on 08-December-13, 03:57:18
    Personally I don't think it's a problem with a BIOS.
Have you tried updating all the drivers? Especially Audio..
Like I said, i've tried every workaround from bios to drivers. Been on these forums, other forums, other sources and no solution seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the headphones as they work on every other PC i've tried and those have had different mobos. Those headphones even work on my Z87 MPower MAX no problem..it is just this Z87 GD65 board. Could be just a bad apple out of the bunch...but I doubt we'll get a RMA for it just cause one sort of headphones wont work on it. Now my mate got a pair of $170 headphones sitting there he cant use.
And as the to 1.7 bios...just by going off the few posts on here i'd be pulling it asap, obviously not alot of testing has been done on it. Just lucky the board has the dual bios option.

  • Z87 GD65 memory problem

    Hi All,
    Z87 GD65 with I7 4770 at 3.5
    4x Corsair Vengeance 4GB modules
I've built my PC today and one issue encountered is that I can only get the board to boot with 8GB in dims 3&4
It will not boot with anything in dims 1&2. I get error code 55
It will not boot with all 4x4GB in. Have checked the CPU for bent pins.
    Would appreciate any thoughts.

Just check if there is no dust or stains or whatever in dim 1&2 socket and just check if they just 100% fitting the dimsocket. Switch the membanks also, sometimes it works 100%. Error 55 i had also before till i noticed that one of the mem banks were not 100% fitted in the Dim 1 socket.

  • Z87-GD65 Newly Built machine, many problems

    hi all,
I've just bought a new MSI Gaming Z87-GD65 MB last week, and a new Xeon E3-1230 V3 cpu,.
Formerly my machine is Asus Sabertooth 990FX + AMD 1055T X6. It runs well with my OCZ V2 and V3.
When I built this new machine and install the new OS(WIN 7 Ultimate 64). Problems appeared continuously.
when i turn on the computer with my OCZ V2, it always restart at least once with a flash of blue screen, then into the windows log-in screen, when i restart the computer after installing new drivers, it rebooted with a windows failure screen and asked me to restore back!
When i start the machine with OCZ V3, I can't power off my computer after i selected the power-off button in Windows. The screen turned black and the HDD light is OFF, but the Fans are still running, the power LED is still ON! what's the problem then? SSD isn't compatible with the MB or new Intel Chipsets? My SSDs both upgraded to latest Firmware and the MB Bios is Version 1.5.
Please Help! or I have to bought a new SSD (not SF controllers)?

    Looked it up for you:
    Controller Marvell 88SS9187
    So yes it will work.
thanks ur reply! I've read the features and specs of Plextor :http://www.plextoramericas.com/index.php/ssd/px-m5m-series
And I've read the topic about Z87 & SSDs, the alternative choice for me is Samsung 840Pro SSD, Someone claimed that it also woeks fine with Z87, though the controller is developed by Samsung.

  • Debug code 70 , mpower z87

    Hi,
yesterday a friend of mine bought the mpower z87 mobo and
    everything was fine until today.
The debug leds show the code 70 and the video output doesn't come out.
I'm really desperate and sad for him, I dont know what to do.
    The configuration is:
    msi mpower z87
    i5 4670k
    corsair cx750
    samsung evo 840
    msi gtx 770 lightning

thanks for the reply.. but I knew that the 70 code means Late South Bridge Inizialization
but I didn't know what does it mean .
Anyway we tried with only 1 RAM plugged and the debug code sometimes is A2 (Ide detected) sometimes A0 or A3.
With 2 RAMs the code is 99 (Super IO Inizialization).
We also tried to unplug the video card and the hdd and do the CMOS, with no results    .
    little update:
the computer now turns on but after 3 mins turns itself off...
