Z87 gd65 Intel Management Engine Driver fails to install.

The Intel Management Engine Driver from the MSI z87-gd65 website did not install correctly.
I was updating some drivers here and there and noticed a newer version of the MEI had been released.  The installation procedure came back with a nasty error, and a pesky exclamation point showed up in my device manager.  I was able to install the newest version (10.0.0.1204) by googling for Management Engine Interface and downloading directly from microsoft, but I would have preferred to use the file on the MSI site, as I believe the one I used was intended for another motherboard.
This is the driver I ended up installing, which worked correctly.
Was anyone else having problems updating the management engine driver?

There is nothing wrong with downloading from Intel's page. It's them providing the driver anyway, and MSI just used it on their product page to make it easier to find; there's no specific driver of Intel ME for specific motherboard or setup. So you're fine.

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 & Intel Management Engine Driver

I've recently uninstalled the ClickbiosII and Control Center, I also uninstalled the "Intel Management Engine Driver" I thought this was only required for Control Center to communicate with the board to make changes to cpu clock/multiplier in the OS, which I do in bios anyway, but since I no longer use Control Center I should no longer need the "Intel Management Engine Driver" or?
Everything still works fine and I can still monitor voltages and temperatures.
But just incase I decided to look for an updated version of the driver, where it seems that the driver on the MSI site is a few revisions behind the ones on Intels site.
    On MSI:
Intel Management Engine Driver, Version: 7.0.0.1144, 2012-03-13
    Intel Site:
Intel Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards , Version: 7.1.40.1161, 04/16/2012
    Chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
But upon closer examination I also see drivers for 6 & 7 series boards:
    There is also:
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards, Version: 8.0.10.1464, Date: 04/19/2012
Which no longer has support for the Z68, however the previous version 8.x.x.xxxx series does.
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards
    , Version: 8.0.4.1441, Date: 03/23/2012
Which also still supports the following chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
Now this driver is "older" than the 7.1.40.1161 driver but has a higher version #, so should I go after version # or the date, which ones would you use, or are already using?

Ok, I reinstalled the drivers again, seems sandybridge needs it to function properly, at least what people are saying on various forums.

  • Intel Management Engine Driver

Is there a connection between ME in the BIOS and the Intel Management Engine Driver that can be downloaded from the motherboard product page?
What I mean is if I install the downloadable driver from the motherboard page, does this over write something that the ME applied from a BIOS update does or vice versa if I updated my BIOS after first installing the driver from the motherboard page?
Do they need to match as the downloadable driver from the motherboard page is a lower version number than the one contained in the latest beta BIOS for the Z77A-GD65?
What does enabling the ME option in the BIOS do?

I actually download my ME from Intel directly as they have a newer version than the MSI website. They don't have to match, and the one for inside windows should be updated when possible like other drivers.

  • Intel management engine driver for Z77 GD45 gaming motherboard

I see 2 driver version for the motherboard for the intel engine interface.
1 -     Intel Management Engine Driver

i installed the first one and when i try to installed the second one it tell me that there is a newer version installed.
need a clarification for those driver.

Because the 'older' one is the right one for your mainboard's chipset series. Unless found otherwise in some official Intel information, ME 9 is not the proper version and may not work correctly.

  • [Z77A-GD65] Intel Management Engine 8.1.2.1318

    Hi
Since I last flashed my BIOS (10.7) I can see that the ME is showing in the BIOS information as being 8.2.1.1318 but on a fresh install of W8 64bit I installed all the necessary drivers including the latest ME drivers (same version).
What I'm finding odd is that even though the download file says its ME_1.5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318_HF2 it shows up in 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features' as 8.1.0.1281.  Also, in 'Device Manager' > 'System devices' >'Intel Management Engine Interface' as 8.1.0.1263.
Just wondered if anyone was experiencing the same and whether anyone knows why there are two variations of the 8.2.1.1318 driver download?
    e.g.
    MEI_1.5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318.exe
    MEI_5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318.exe
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22intel+management+engine+drivers%22&DownloadType=Drivers
I have tried resetting the CMOS and also have reflashed the same BIOS and reinstalling ME drivers 8.1.2.1318 but still reports the same.

I've only been using the forum flashing tool which when I used it prior to the current 10.7 Bios, I flashed A71 beta which is what I believe introduced the latest ME (8.2.1.1318).  When I flashed the latest 10.7 I just downloaded the official Bios from the motherboard downloads page and used the forum flasher to create the USB stick.  Following the flash I switched off the PC when given the option to reboot, so that I could remove the power supply cable from the PSU and wait for the motherboard to drain its power and reset the CMOS using the reset button on the rear I/O of the motherboard.
The Bios does show in the info section where it shows the date and time etc that the ME version is 8.2.1.1318.
I wondered if perhaps it was a mistake with the Intel ME driver install if someone hadn't updated the reference value within that which relates to the version number but judging from your response your ME driver shows the correct version in the Programs and Features screen of Windows?
So if I understand what your saying if the Bios doesn't include the ME that the flashing process wipes out the ME that was there and requires a separate process to put the ME back on?

  • Intel Management Engine Driver 1.5m or 5m?

As above, should I install the 1.5m driver or the 5m driver on my Z77A G43?
    Thanks

Intel intends for the 5MB version to be part of server and office oriented boards and for the 1.5MB version to be part of desktop boards. Which one is implemented on each non-Intel board depends on the motherboard maker but as far as I can tell most companies comply with what Intel specifies.
For its own boards Intel uses the 5MB version on boards using Q and B series chipsets and the 1.5MB version on boards using the X, Z, Q and P chipsets. MSI should be doing the same.
Now, the driver you use on desktop boards doesn't matter. If you use the 1.5MB version it will work. If you use the 5MB version it will also work. No features will be disabled in either case.
Now if you have a server or office board things change a bit. If you use the 1.5MB version it will work... but AMT related features and of course their settings pages will not be available (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Active_Management_Technology for more info). If you use the 5MB version it will work with all the AMT related features being available, assuming that the related features are also enabled from the Management Engine configuration screen on the board BIOS (usually accessed by pressing ctrl+p while booting the system).
TL;DR version: If you're in doubt, just use the 5MB driver.

  • Intel Management Engine Driver? Intel VGA driver

Is this driver necessary?  If so why?  I am using the MSI H87-G43 Intel board.   Is the Intel VGA necessary as well? I will only be using the integrated graphics on the CPU HD 4400.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

If you are using the onboard graphics, then you are using the Intel GPU which is integrated in your CPU. To have full graphics functions, you must install it.
Also the ME firmware must be installed, it controls all the Intel integrated circuits and functions.
Just use your installation CD or download the latest from the MSI website

  • Intel Management Engine windows 8 Pro

I am running windows 8 Pro on a MSI x79a-GD65-8d board. Device management shows an exclamation mark for 'PCI simple communications controller'. This should be related to a missing Intel Management Engine driver. However I can't find such a driver for windows 8 on the MSI website.
Any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks.

After several BIOS updates, this is still a problem (Same MB as the OP and sorry for Hijacking your thread Bud )
I am on E7760IMSv1B1 and it still shows up as not recognized (1.8 Official off the MSI website did not solve the problem).
It doesn't seem to be affecting the operation of the Motherboard but it is still annoying that it won't resolve.

Edit - after reinstalling the MEI drivers AGAIN, the problem seems to have solved itself - cheers

    Hi,
It seems your machine has motherboard with Intel chips. And this problem occurs if you install a driver via Windows Update. You could try to upgrade the latest version driver from Intel, then this problem would be solved. Here is some information about Intel
