Z87 GD65 memory problem

Hi All,
Z87 GD65 with I7 4770 at 3.5
4x Corsair Vengeance 4GB modules
I've built my PC today and one issue encountered is that I can only get the board to boot with 8GB in dims 3&4
It will not boot with anything in dims 1&2. I get error code 55
It will not boot with all 4x4GB in. Have checked the CPU for bent pins.
Would appreciate any thoughts.

Just check if there is no dust or stains or whatever in dim 1&2 socket and just check if they just 100% fitting the dimsocket. Switch the membanks also, sometimes it works 100%. Error 55 i had also before till i noticed that one of the mem banks were not 100% fitted in the Dim 1 socket.

  • Z87-GD65 possible problem

Alright, so I've been posting on some forums with this problem but idk why it never occurred to me to put it on here..considering I do have an MSI board.  I've been having freezing problems with my new pc build lately, the build is...
    Intel i5 4670k(stock cooler)
    MSI Z87-GD65
    EVGA Nvidia GTX 660
Samsung 840 EVO 350 GB SSD
    Crucial Ballistix 2x4gb 1600 ram
    Corsair CX750M
    Corsair Carbide 200r case
Now I've ruled out the video card, the RAM, and the SSD through testing. So the only possibility is problems with the motherboard, processor, or PSU.  Now the computer seems to randomly freeze, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour or so, sometimes I'm gaming sometimes it's just downloading a game.  I've had a few ppl suggest overheating and that the heatsink may not be properly mounted on, but as far as I can tell it is and the cpu temps aren't going above 55 during gaming, and idle around 37.  I realize the stock cooler isn't going to cut it for long so I do have a plan for water cooling that I'm getting within the next week or so.  So I guess if heat is the issue than that should fix it, but I have a feeling it may be the mobo, or maybe I haven't set something properly(although I've checked over that a few times and everything seems to be set properly, nothing is overclocked).  Now earlier I pulled a stick of RAM out and was running on one stick, and it seemed to be working but I didn't have more than an hour so I can't say with 100% certainty that it solved the problem or maybe it was just taking a bit longer to freeze than usual.  So maybe it has something to do with a bad DIMM slot? because I got replacment ram and it's still freezing and I have a hard time believing I got 4 bad sticks of RAM in a row.  So if this is sounding familiar to anyone and knows anything about this problem I would really appreciate some input.

I have the same problem . Random shutdowns . I test all the components in others PC and all are OK.  I test with G-Skill Ram, Corsair Ram, OCZ ram. Anyone have any idea?

  • Z87-gd65 ethernet problem

Hi I recently bought the z87-gd65 motherboard and just installed it into my computer. Everything is working fine, except the 'killer e2200' ethernet port.
    I am running windows vista 32-bit SP2.
I tried installing the drivers off of the CD that came with the mobo, no luck (Via CD > Network > Killer > KillerSetup_32bit.exe
"Your hardware is not supported on this Windows version. The installer can not continue."
Also, in Device Manager, it shows Ethernet Controller under 'Other Devices' with a Yellow triangle and a ! in it.
(There is no tab for Network)
When I first boot up Windows, I get a popup saying Windows needs the drivers for the Ethernet Controller, so I browsed the CD and no file worked.
Am I going to have to upgrade to Windows 7 or something?

First, try the network driver here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174229.0
I installed this via Device Manage > Update Driver > Browse Computer For Folder > Killer E220x/Win 7(I'm assuming it's backwards compatible with Vista 32bit)
It says it's installed, but it gave me Error Code 39.
Via Properties > Check For Solution... I received this

  • MSI Z87-GD65 SLI problem

I have been using the z87-gd65 motherboard with an msi gtx 770 since they both came out, and they have both been working great.   I recently just purchased a second msi gtx 770 for SLI, however when I enable SLI, and try to play ANY game it will either crash immediately or run the game and the screen will flicker very bad.  Both cards are functioning great if used individually as a single card. Has anyone else run into any SLI issues with this motherboard?   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
so far some of things I have tried to no avail are...
    -updated motherboard bios
-updated both video card vbios individually
    -tested each card individually
    -tested each pci-express slot individually
    -replaced SLI bridge connector
    -reset BIOS defaults
-tested all available nvidia drivers since the gtx 770 was released
-swapped power supplies (both are 850 Watt with 70+ on the 12v rail)
-changed various game tweaks/profiles and vsync options at different refresh rates

If you need to raise the voltage to run at default speeds, the card is most likely defective. A vbios update sometimes helps, but it should work at default settings.
I had 1 ASUS 660ti OC version, had this for a year and worked great without any changes (updated vbios it cause of GOP). 2 weeks ago i bought a second one, MSI 660ti Power Edition OC (also updated vbios cause of GOP). Tested the second one as single as well without issues and without any changes to the voltage.
But running it in SLI mode causes crashes, i personally thought because they are both overclocked and running in SLI that they need a bit more voltage. I've read this in a post as well and it surely solved my SLI crashing issues.

  • Z87-g43 memory problem

    Hi all,
    cpu: i7-4770k
    mobo: z87-g43
ram: 2dimms of 8GB crucial ballistix tactical
I tried to install the two memory dimms on slot2 and slot4 for dual channel but the pc does not boot. The two dimms are working ok on slot3 and slot4, but they are not in dual channel.
Please notice that if I use only one dimm on slot1 or slot2 it does not boot, but if I place it on slot3 or slot4 it works ok.
    What could be the problem?
    Thank you very much!

    Thank you for your answer.
However, I checked the socket pins but I cannot see any bent.
Here are some images I tried to take:
I should notice that the board is brand new.
Is there any other possible reasons for that problem?
    Thank you!

  • Z87-GD65 boot problems

Hello, my pc has trouble booting up, whenever it starts it runs for about 2-3 seconds and turns off and goes into a boot-loop. However i have found a way to work my way around this by pressing the power button longer (during the boot problem) and after that it boots up just fine. What do you guys think that is wrong with it? Whenever it has been running and i restart the pc it boots without problem. It is only there when i boot up in the morning when the PC has been turned off for a while

Kind of indicates a power problem. Recommend you try it with a fan running directly off the PSU. A HDD is not what I am trying to convey here. If you have any sleep or hibernate features enabled, the fan connected directly may be the key to it starting when you hit the button normal.
RAM test is still a good idea though.

  • P55-GD65 memory problem - 1066 detected instead of 1333

    Hi everyone,
Got an issue I thought I'd ask your advice on regarding my new build.  There appears to be an issue with either memory slot 3 or 4 on my new motherboard.  I can run 4GB RAM i.e. slots 1 & 3 with no issues but if I install all 8GB and attempt to install any application, I get a BSOD and the PC reboots.  I have tested all the memory separately i.e. 4GB at a time and can find no issues but when I test all 8GB, errors are reported in Memtest86 which points to a problem with the aforementioned memory slots.  I have also tested the CPU using Prime95 and this was completed with no errors.
Furthermore, the memory I bought was ordered specifically because it is supposed to be Core i5 compatible: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-183-OC
However, it is only being detected at 1066mhz, instead of 1333mhz as it's supposed to be.  I'm not sure if the 2 issues are related but as you can imagine, it's very frustrating to have new computer equipment that doesn't work properly.
    Thanks for your help :-)

I have already logged an RMA with Overclockers to get the board replaced but has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Here are the images as requested.  My memory is now running at 1333MHz though I have had to manually change this in the DRAM Timing Mode and Advanced DRAM Config menus to change the timing etc.  I have seen a similar thread in this forum with the same issue, and again using OCZ memory, though theirs is 1600MHz running at 1066MHz like mine.  Could this be a problem with OCZ DDR3 dual channel memory?  The kit I purchased was supposed to Core I5 compatible...

  • Z87-GD65 Boot Problems With 16GB installed

    Hi All,
    My machine spec
    Intel 4770
    16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro
MSI GTX 780 Twin Frozr Gaming
    Corsair RM850 power supply
    SanDisk extreme II 240GB SSD
    MD Bios 1.8 default settings.
and that's all I have plugged in the board at the moment.
The problem is once I add the second stick of ram and do a real cold boot (like the next day) the machine doesn't boot. The leds just keep cycling.
The funny thing is if I take the second stick out it will boot. Then if I add the second stick back it boots fine and will work all day, no blue screens.
Then next day back to it not booting and cycling leds. I've tried swapping the ram sticks etc and they are in slots 2 and 4.
one other thing I've noticed is it takes a long time to shut down. I'm taking a minute after windows closes.
This is my second GD65 the first one wouldn't boot at all with the GTX plugged in and the same with my old 7870.
    any ideas??
    cheers
    Johnny

Don't the Sandisk Exterme 2's use a Marvell chipset?
The previous generation SanDisk Extreme SSD used a SandForce controller, with largely unchanged firmware. This new drive however moves to a much more favorable combination for companies who have their own firmware development team. Like Crucial’s M500, the Extreme II uses Marvell’s 88SS9187 (codename Monet) controller. "courtesy of Anandtech.
Its time to do a manual memory setting. Set it to 1600 at 1,545 or the closest you can get to 1,575 and ensure your memory timings are set at 9.9.9.24. Retest

  • MSI P55-GD65 memory problem

I have a problem with memory in Windows 7-64bit.  It only use 3GB of 4 GB, despite the fact PC recognize all 4GB RAM. It say that 1 GB it's hardware reserved. Today I updated BIOS to 1.5 version due to announce that "Fixed system report incorrect memory size when install 8G memory"
    What I've already done:
    1. Checked the socket for bent pins as I found the solution in other topic here. I have a LOTES socket and didn't find any bent pin or no contact pad on CPU
    2. Swapped the two RAM modules between them. No use.
    3. Checked RAM modules in another PC, AMD processor and there was no problem, recognized 4GB, used 4GB.
    4. Run memtest86+ - no error found.
The strange fact is that in Linux (Gentoo) I set swappines to 90(%), mounted a tmpf (3GB size) in an empty folder and filled it until it was full. No swap occurs - 3.4 GB RAM was full. (I used top). So, it seems that the PC it's able to use more than 3GB.
I really appreciate any clue, suggestions.
    Thank you!

I always clear CMOS after a BIOS update and  it's Windows 7 64 bits for sure.
Some translations are required: GO=GB; utilizabile=usable;64 de biți=64 bits
    Later:
I redo again tmfs test on Linux. System is hardware capable to use all 4GB. So I decided to reinstall Windows because it was preinstalled by my PC vendor. It didn't bother me until now.
And... big surprise: Windows recognize all my 4GB. Well, so far, so good. I installed drivers from Intel, Realtek, Logitech and Hauppage. No problem with memory. The hardware reserved memory it's now 9MB + perfectly normal.
Now, I remained with curiosity: what was the problem ? OS - it can't be, old drivers, bloatware preinstalled apps ? I suppose I'll never find out.
Thank you Jack t.N. very much for your support.

  • Z87 GD65 - Memory not registering

So when I first built the system my memory only registered in slots 3&4 (2*4gb hyperx beast) recently tried to add 2*4gb hyperx fury and I'm getting the 55 error. I've tried all different slot combinations but nothing. I can only boot when I use slots 3&4 even if I mix the 2 different ram cards. HELP!

    Hi
    1. Dont mix RAM. You call for an issue there. If you want to use all 4 sticks then contact kingston or reseller and ask for some kind of matched kit for exchange with those 2 kits.
    2. Try >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 memory problem

I bought a new cpu,mb and memory. When i turned it on it was rebooting after few seconds after start. So i tried to put just one memory in slot. It worked but only if memory is in bank 1 or 2. As soon as I put a memory in bank 3 or 4, the computer is rebooting.
When I put my modules in the 2 blue banks, the computer reboots every time.
When I put my modules in the 2 black banks, the computer reboots every time.
The computer works only when I put my first module in bank 1(blue) and the second in bank 2.
Itested my memory modules in an other computer and they are workin.
    Who can help me?

Remove the cpu and inspect the Cpu Socket pins, straighten any that are bent. Make sure you have a bright light and magnifying glass because the pins are very small and even a small deviation can cause issues.
If you don't see anything there, the next step would be to remove the board from the case and rebuild it on a non-conductive surface to eliminate shorts. Then try 1 stick in each of the dimms, if the same situation persists rma the board.

  • Z87-gd65 RAID problems

What the hell is wrong with this board?, or more to the point, what is right with it?
After getting the LAN problem fixed by buying a third party add on card, I'm now faced with another problem, and a major one at that.
After ANY BIOS update, regardless what version (and yes I'm using the forum tool), my 2 disk RAID array fails, every time, and all data is lost?? !?
2 x WD Black 1Tb drives in RAID 0, OS is installed on my SSD drive.
Any idea as to what is going on?

OK, after a ton of mucking about in BIOS, I can reproduce the same result just by changing SATA mode to either IDE or AHCI.  Once any of these is selected and the system rebooted straight back to BIOS (without letting OS load), the RAID fails instantly when SATA is set back to RAID mode.
Not good at all, because when one updates the BIOS for any reason, the defaults are restored to AHCI for SATA, thus selecting RAID mode after the BIOS flash, will once again, cause the RAID to fail.

  • Z87-gd65 bios problem

    Hi,
Had issue with a A2 error code on my MB. I try to flash BIOS to latest version and Computer stay blocked on black screen.
Using second boot bios i try to fix it, but get message : Invalid ROMID when flashing it with Mflash or Forum HQ flasher...
Anyone has the same issue ?
    Thanks,

With M-Flash are you selecting the BIOS Update 'BIOS + ME' choice? I have a feeling the ME firmware is not getting flashed. Also, please clarify as you can damage the board if you switch BIOS chips with power on and when booted into the OS.

  • Z87-gd65 Bios Problems?

    Hello!
Last night (saturday 18th) i turned off this damn computer before going to bed, next day it started up, but the screen was all black.
After looking into it, (removing ram, checking psu, gpu, cpu) i found out that by switching over the dual bios button to the 2nd bios its all good again. Ofc im back to bios version 1.00, but atleast it works now. the other bios (lets call it 1) is currently up to date, and worked fine untill i turned the computer off last night (saturday) tried clearing cmos, and pushing all the clear godknowswhat buttons i found on the motherboard, but the sceen still goes black. Was thinking i could flash the bios, but with a black screen, flashing the defective bios seems to be pretty hard.. can i conclude to a defective motherboard/bios or are there any other things i can do before risking flashing this one that works to the newest version (through live update) ? Should this go under some sort of waranty? its barely a year old.
and i know.. the english sucked.. im scandinavian.. accept it :P

Quite unlikely that bios a simply gone bad but let's try reflashing it:
A.) Download >>this<< bios archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< .
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version
