Z87-GD65 Stuttering with GTX 970

Just got a MSI Golden 970 and I've had a Z87-GD65 mother board and when I upgraded my GPU I noticed games like assassins creed unity I was getting stuttering and less than 60 FPS in the menu's when customizing my outfit my FPS would drop into the 20's. So I knew something was wrong right away when league of legends had a FPS drop into the 40's during combat for a split second.

I wanna buy another GeForce EVGA GTX 970 SC to run on SLI in this motherboard, it will work?
    - The GTX 970 is compatible in SLI with z97 GD65?
    - I ask because I don't see in the support list for SLI GTX 970 of this motherboard z97 GD65.
    - If its works anyone here already did a real test?

Thanks Remus, you make idea how many percent the performance will be improved with another gtx 970?
    25-75% depending on application (game).

  • Very Initial results PPBM8 (CC 2014) with GTX 970 SC

Well this has been an interesting evening with my new EVGA GTX 970 SC with 4 GB.  I got over $50 off on an open box unit so I could not resist!
My single GPU benchmark from PPBM using MPEG2-DVD with Hardware Acceleration scores have been the same as my GTX 770 SC.
I hope that GPU-Z is reporting this new GPU properly.  There may be some confusion here with a brand new board.
I downloaded the latest EVGA overclocking tool Precision 16 and tried to adjust the memory speed as I have done dozens of times and I could not get any changes showing in GPU-Z.
I do like the it has HTML 2.0 (4K monitor compatibility).
I do like the lower power dissipation.
I do like the slight lower price.  (4 GB GTX 770 to 4 GB GTX 970).
In the next few days I hope to get the answers somehow on the overclocking of the memory and compatibility with GPU-Z
    Testing with Premiere 8.0.1.21

Thanks much Eric, now I hope I can get our results page updated.  Apparently with the new Maxwell's you cannot change the real memory speed.  I have sent more time with EVGA and no one can explain why.  It can appear to be set differently but it does not change the results like it has in the other previous cards.
I will install my GTX 770 with the GTX 970 to see how they play.

  • Is my system compatible with GTX 970?

I have HP P7-1235 with MS 7778 (ver. 1.0) motherboard. I have recently purchased MSI GTX 970. When I put in the card and try to boot up the system, it freezes with Starting Windows sign on the display. From a research I have done it seems there might be a problem with my MOBO and/or BIOS version being compatible with the card. The BIOS version is AMI 7.07
    I am running Windows 7.
Could anybody tell me if there is a newer version of the BIOS I need and or any other solution so I can run the GPU?
Or do I have to get a different GPU. Is so which one is high performance GPU compatible with my BIOS and MOBO?
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
Unless your PC has a version 8 BIOS then don't count on the NVIDIA GTX 970 working in your PC even with the correct power supply installed.
Your PC has a version 7 BIOS.
Either of the below MSI graphics cards should work with the 300 watt power supply in your PC.

  • Unable to use 4 monitors with GTX 970

I used to run 4 monitors with my EVGA 660Ti. I recently purchased a Msi GTX 970 4GD5T OC and now my VGA only utility monitor on the DVI-I port (with included adapter) wont display when in windows. It displays the bios on boot but once windows 7 initializes it reads "no RGB input". I must be missing something simple that I did before with my 660Ti but I can't remember. Tried it with another VGA only flat screen I had and the same results.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean by only DVI won't display or something? four ports on vga or some ports in onboard port? Did you check NVIDIA control panel 3D Settings--Configure surround, and right click screen resolution on desktop?

  • Z87-GD65 problem with USB3

I just bought some new pieces to upgrade my PC, including the Z87-GD65 mobo, i5-4670K CPU and a Samsung SSD 840 PRO 256 GB drive.
Everything went smooth, installed Win 7, all updates, drivers etc.. ran for a day.
Next day i wan't to move the cabinet into my closet, which i do, turn it on and i get a AE error, claiming "hardware device is missing"..!?
A few hours later, i conclude, that when ever i put one of my USB(2) devices, like keyboard, mouse, headset into any of the USB3 ports, the BIOS forgets everything about my SSD (primary disc)...
Sofar i have solved it by pluugging it all in my USB2 ports.
Any had this before or know what the cause could be and if there is a fix ?

What USB3 drivers are you using?  Did you use the one on the CD?  MSI should have updated drivers on their webpage, and intel web probably has newers than MSI, try all drivers.
But tbh i had a similar thing happen on me on GT70One, i used the newer ones form intel and had some issues with messages of windows displaying not correctly installed, and some other things that i dont remember, all this were solved by using the latest from the MSI webpage, but i did reformat since the drivers created a mess that i couldn't uninstall.
Personally i like to install the newest Chispset, RST and USB from intels website, but with MSI laptops and motherboards.... its weird.  Btw im doing a Z87 GA65 build today, so you would save me the time to test at least one driver if you tell me what drivers gave you the problem? Intels, CD or MSI webpage?

  • Pc wont boot with gtx 970

I bought msi gaming gtx 970 around 6 months ago and it worked flawlessly until today. I opened my pc to clean it up a bit, and removed the gpu from the pci-e slot, and the next time (1 hour later) I put it back in it just stopped working. Display led is just flashing and shows a black screen, no bios splash screen or anything. The logo lits up and fans start spinning for like 10 seconds and then just stop. Everything is seated as it should be. Also, it was all tested on a 750w psu. Same thing happens when the 6 and 8 pin connectors aren't connected.
I've tried my old gtx 260 and gtx 570 and they both work fine, and also I've tried gtx 970 in an older pc with 500w psu and the same thing happens.
    Is it dead or what?
    Specs:
    msi p67a-c45
    intel i7 2600k
    2x8gb kingston hyperx 2133mhz
    silverstone strider 750w psu

Well, if other vgas do work in the same machine but the 970 will not work in that machine it worked in before and won't in another machine as well it is dead. Rma it.

  • P67A-G43 select boot device issue with GTX 970

I recently tried to install a new GTX 970 and ran into an issue where I am asked to select the boot device every time I boot the pc. I uninstalled the driver for my video card before installing it. The system appears to be stable once it boots into Windows. However, when I swap back to the GTX 760, that was in the system previously, it boots straight into Windows without having to select the boot device? I have seen lots of issues on the forum about the 970 and older boards but nothing specific to mine. I am currently have BIOS version 1.A0 installed. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, you need to update. Following the below updates to latest official bios (5.4 aka E7673IMS.540)
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download >>this archive<< and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt81_win78_xp.zip

  • Trying to boot with GTX 970 and getting no signal..

Installed a GTX 970 and since then the PC will switch on but I can't even get to the BIOS screen. If I take the card out then it boots fine.
I've tried updating the BIOS and drivers as far as I can but I am now stuck as to what the problem could be.
The lights on the card also come on but the fans don't spin.
    The build is currently:
    MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard
    Intel Core i5-4690K
    G-Skill 4Gx2 Ripjaws DDR3 2133MHz
    Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W Modular 80 PLUS
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I would:
I assume this is a single card install?
    1. Check card in another PC (if possible)
    2. Check PS connections
    3. Check PS's ability to output enough wattage
    4. Try different monitor connection/cable
See where that takes you... and report back

  • Share your O/C settings on your MSI Z87-GD65 board with I7-4770K CPU.

I'd like to see what voltages people are using to O/C their 4770K CPU's on this board.
What BIOS options are you changing from stock?
I can use 4.5GHz at 1.185 volts with the MSI Intel Extreme Tuning utility for 1/2 hour sessions with no problems but it locks up BSOD on the Prime95 test with 8 threads in seconds.  I've jumped the voltages up to 1.25 for Prime95 testing, but it gives me the WHEA error in Windows and and gracefully reboots.   I can't go higher than 1.25 on voltage because even 1.25 hits 100C on my Corsair H70 watercooler in a few minutes and starts throttling the CPU.  I can use 1.2 volts without throttling, and it doesn't hit 100C, but 1.25 is too much.   The other thing I've tried is running the CPU at 1.1 volts and 4.2GHz.
I'm curious what the rest of your guys have experienced?

    This is the wrong forum section for asking OC'ing questions and inquiries. There are a number of threads already on Z87 OC'ing here to review;

  • MSI GS70 2QE-Stealth pro with GTX 970 M. Cant run 3 screens ?

    Hi!
    Got a GS70 Stealth pro 17" with:
    CPU   Intel Core i7 4:e gen. 4710HQ / 2.5 GHz
    GTX970M 3GB
    16 GB RAM
2 x Mini DisplayPort  - Running 2 x adapters that converts hdmi from screen to Mini DosplayPort to the laptop.
1 X HDMI                - Running now 1 x adapter that converts VGA to HDMI.
I just bought 3 Asus VN247H 23,6" / 1ms / 2xHDMI screens to my new laptop. And on the MSI website it says that i can run 3 screens (when the laptop screen is off)
So i tried with 2 x Deltaco mini DisplayPort till HDMI-monitorkabel med ljud, 20-pin ha-19-pin ha, 1m. And 1 HDMI. But i cant run 3 screens. Even if i shut down the laptop screen.
I also tried a adapter called:
Deltaco HDMI till VGA och ljud-adapter 1080p 0,2m (Vit) from VGA to HDMI but still dont work.. It converts VGA from the screen to hdmi to the laptop.
So now i am woundering if i need a "active adapter" like this one:
Sapphire Active mini-DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI Adapter? or is it something else i am doing wrong ? this active adapter costs around 30 euro so its abit cheep? is it the right one?
I would be really really happy if someone could help me out here. It is for my new company =).
    Thanks for your time!

According to that it supports 3 external screens between the Display Port and HDMI ports.
HOWEVER....and I might be wrong about this but....I'm not certain you can use non-active Display Port to HDMI/DVI adapters. What do I mean by non-active? Non-active adapters are passive devices, whereas the active ones will take Display Port and then convert it and provide it's own clock signal as well, which will then allow it to work with HDMI/DVI monitors. This is due to the number of clock generators on the video card board to support the monitors. Most cards only have 2 clock generators for outputs, and therefore you can't just use passive adapters for your Display Port adapters to go to HDMI/DVI.
How do I know this? I used to use (way back a number of years ago) a 3 x 1080P monitor setup, and the video card only supported 2 outputs with clocks, and the 3rd had to be a display port output without a clock. The only way to make it work was to get an active adapter. At the time, the easiest one to obtain was a display port to DVI adapter from Apple actually...I still have it sitting in my box of parts, but it worked very well.
Most likely, that is the true underlying issue, and once you resolve that you will be able to output to 3 external monitors simultaneously.

  • Matrox Mojito Max with GTX 970 Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Good day everyone,
I am building a workstation and I would like to ask, if I can use both of the cards, The GTX970 for rendering and Matrox Mojito MAX for monitoring? I know, that Matrox card is hardware accelerating h.264, but is it faster than GTX970? If i can use this combo, how can I set? If i set the Mojito to preview, can I set the Mercury settings in the project settings for GTX970? Will it work? Thank you for respond.

    Ask in the Premiere forum.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 SLI problem

I have been using the z87-gd65 motherboard with an msi gtx 770 since they both came out, and they have both been working great.   I recently just purchased a second msi gtx 770 for SLI, however when I enable SLI, and try to play ANY game it will either crash immediately or run the game and the screen will flicker very bad.  Both cards are functioning great if used individually as a single card. Has anyone else run into any SLI issues with this motherboard?   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
so far some of things I have tried to no avail are...
    -updated motherboard bios
-updated both video card vbios individually
    -tested each card individually
    -tested each pci-express slot individually
    -replaced SLI bridge connector
    -reset BIOS defaults
-tested all available nvidia drivers since the gtx 770 was released
-swapped power supplies (both are 850 Watt with 70+ on the 12v rail)
-changed various game tweaks/profiles and vsync options at different refresh rates

Quote from: xmad on 16-November-13, 02:00:25
If you need to raise the voltage to run at default speeds, the card is most likely defective. A vbios update sometimes helps, but it should work at default settings.
I had 1 ASUS 660ti OC version, had this for a year and worked great without any changes (updated vbios it cause of GOP). 2 weeks ago i bought a second one, MSI 660ti Power Edition OC (also updated vbios cause of GOP). Tested the second one as single as well without issues and without any changes to the voltage.
But running it in SLI mode causes crashes, i personally thought because they are both overclocked and running in SLI that they need a bit more voltage. I've read this in a post as well and it surely solved my SLI crashing issues.
