Z87-gd65 Troubles

Hi guys, I'm new here but would like a big help.
Spent a week putting my new build together and installed win8.1 on it, all OK, but no ethernet /lan working. Nothing will work as regards installing drivers from CD, nor updated ones from site.
If I run the killer app it says no compatible hardware etc, tried 32bit also, although I'm on 64bit. Tried searching CD etc, but it just says no drivers found?
I can't get anywhere with this board atm without a connection. Plugged it into my second system and net is working fine, so no problems with that side of things,
Any help appreciated folks.

If windows 8.1 can see it i dont see why it can be seen on windows 8, maybe it has a bug with windows 8 that you need to upgrade its firmware, some manufacturers released firmwre when windows 8 was released. Personally i will not touch windows 8, im fine with 7 till 9 comes, btw i have no issues with Z87-GD65.

To what i know, i dont think you can control 3pin on bios, only 4pin PWM on the CPU_FAN1 and CPU_FAN2 headers (both are controllable independently)

MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard Booting Windows 7 Trouble

Hi guys, today I bought the MSI Z87-GD65 Mobo, 2 Sticks of 4GB RAM and the Intel i7 4770. I bought these to upgrade my old system and the only other parts im using is my Nvidia GTX570, PSU and my 2TB Seagate HDD.
Everything hardware works normal, no abnormal signs.
My problem is when it boots up, it says "find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /win7ldr. Error 15: File not found"
I've tried using my windows 7 disc and it says all my stuff is still there and the startup troubleshooter doesn't find any issues. I tried putting my RAM in properly and its in nicely. (they are in the 3rd and 4th slot though) My power is fine, its just the BIOS isn't booting it =(
-The BIOS is updated
-No Hardware faults
Note: when i press any key to continue, it comes up with GRUB4DOS and has options like: "Windows 7 with SLIC Loader (Default)"
Please help me if you know anything!

Sounds like old problem from time of XP to Vista.
Firsth. Take out that USB connection of your headset from PC.
Secend. Uninstall any driver that headset (or you) may have installed to your OS.
Third. Run registercleaner program.
Fourth. Shotdown PC and then start again (dont just reboot!)
Fifth. Download and/or Install drivers for that USB headset.
Sixth. Reboot that PC.
Seventh. Insert that USB connection.

If not i would try to ubdate intel chipset drivers(if MSI ones dont work, i would go to Intel site and try them from there) and if those dont help then another reinstall of OS and member to inser USB device after installing drivers for the device.

MSI Z87 GD65 boot troubles

I recently built my own computer, using an MSI Z87 GD65 board, and it worked fine for about 2 weeks, then suddenly my computer bluescreened, now when I power it on it no longer boots (doesn't even reach bios screen) tried resetting cmos, any ideas? :s

- Start with the BIOS swich. ...hows it with the second BIOS chip?
- Testing your PSU. Is it stating ok green to black on 20/24pin connection.

New Z87-GD65 USB Issues?

Trying to find out if I need to return a newly installed board to the store for an exchange. I have another PC, with this same board, that was built back in August, and it works great.
If I go into the BIOS, sometimes the USB drive is detected and sometimes not. Had to reboot 3 or 4 times to even get it to see a usb drive to load Windows 8.1.
In windows it will detect a usb flash drive about half the time. I have an ASUS N-53 USB Wireless stick that has only been detected one time. NOTE - All of the items I have plugged in work without fail, on the same board, in another PC. I thought it first it was maybe the front ports in the case (Fractal Design R4) but it has the same issue on the backside ports that are coming directly off the board.
I have reset the bios to defaults and also flashed the bios to latest. Also tried it on bios B to make sure it wasn't something specific to BIOS A. Since I was having the issues before even installing Windows, I'm going with a faulty board. Before I go through the trouble of returning the board, is their anything else I can do to check?

As a follow-up...
I went back to the store and did an exchange. The new board is working like a champ, so I assume the USB controller was bad on the original. Just got unlucky on that last one.
As I stated previously, this is my second Z87-GD65 and I really like it. I would recommend.

Me and some friends ran into a "wierd" situation , As soon as we boot our comps a black screen with 9C in the right corner below pops up and stands there for like 10-20 sec. I was wondering if this normall ? For a highend combo (I7 4770k + Z87-GD65) he boots very slow (1min)

The forum chart doesn't have any plain vanilla GTX 560's for me to draw from for SLI, and the OP's PSU is still too weak in my opinion.
He has a USB problem as well, but your suggestion should open the door to find the one that is causing the trouble in that regard. If he knows how to troubleshoot, installing one item at a time to find the culprit(s).

Checking ram that works with MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING Intel Z87 Motherbo

Was wondering if Vengeance pro series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 DRAM 2400MHz C10 Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2400C10R) will work good on MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING Intel Z87 Motherboard or if im gonna need to do some tweeking.

Since in the components purchasing stage for the project, a few tips for you. Check with the PSU manufacturer to make sure it is Haswell compliant. I like single rail +12V PSU's made by Corsair, but there are other good ones out there too. OS is also important. I prefer Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, but if you go with Win 8 or 7, some GTX 780 issues may arise. GOP, VBIOS, mainboard updated to the very newest UEFI/BIOS etc. can be involved. UEFI/BIOS update is a good place to start if the graphics card gives you trouble. Research as much as you can prior to the build. Advance planning helps a lot on what to possibly expect.

Z87-GD65 BIOS A Issue

New to the forum and MSI boards.
This happened about a month ago when I was using "Live Updater" (I know, BIG mistake). My system crashed during the update and would not restart afterward. The screen would just go black then the system would restart and sit with a black screen. At the the time I needed my system running and just booted up using BIOS B. Everything worked and is working fine when using BIOS B. So now that I have a little extra time on my hands I decided I would fix the corrupted BIOS, but I'm unable to get the USB drive to boot. I tried the method of booting with the good BIOS and then flipping the switch to the failed one and flashing from the USB drive. It got about 50% and my system reset with the same black screen. My debug is coming up with code 36. Any ideas?

Are you talking about a Z77 and not a Z87 as listed in the topic title? Did you post in the wrong thread?

Msi Z87-GD65 Booting Failure With eSATA Drives

Hi Folks,
Before I go down the (probably ill-fated) Customer Service path I thought I'd address the forum here on a little problem I'm having with my Z87-GD65.
IN essence, if I have a hard drive connected to my eSATA port the PC won't boot. I'm using an ICYDOCK 4 bay external enclosure (MB561US-4SB if interested). If the drive itself is on but the HD trays are ejected then it boots. If any of the drives are secured then it'll hang at a post-BIOS/pre-Windows screen where all I get is a blinking cursor for about 30 seconds and then it disappears to a plain black screen. If the device is powered off then it boots.
I've checked the BIOS with one of the HDs running and it doesn't appear within my boot list - in fact, except for one selection in the bios allowing me to disable eSATA there really isn't much I can do there.
I've upgraded my BIOS to 1.30 from 1.00 and the process seems to move a bit further - now I get the oh-so-pretty ugly Windows logo and that's all.
When I do actually boot the PC with the ICYDOCK off then I'm able to get into Windows normally, and turn on the ICYDOCK. After a few seconds all 4 hard drives report in and everything's fine.
I've been using this ICYDOCK for about a year and a half, with 2 other motherboards (neither were an MSI) and i7 cores, and neither of them caused me any issues. I remember that neither of those boards had the port multiplier eSATA capability so I had to buy a controller card with that capability. I could probably dig that up and see if the problem remains.
In case you're wondering, if it helps, I built a Msi Z87-GD65/4770 i7 - based PC with 2 internal 2TB Hard Drives, and 16gb RAM. I already mentioned the ICYDOCK. I used LiveUpdate to install all the latest drivers & BIOS before uninstalling it.
I build & repair PCs for a living so I'm pretty familiar with what's going on with the system. I figure that there must be something happening between the BIOS and Windows "handoff" of the ICYDOCK, but I'm damned if I can figure out just what.

More information please. PSU, OS being used, etc..

Z87-GD65 Enable "Windows 8/8.1 Feature" = Won't boot, Disabled = Boots up

How do I enable Windows 8/8.1 Feature in the Z87-GD65 Settings? When I turn it on, Windows 8.1 no longer will boot. (see video below of what happens) Is this because I didn't have it enabled BEFORE I installed Windows? If so can I fix this without a re-install? My C: is a 120GB SSD. I have about 12 other 3TB Hard Drives installed as well with 2 secondary SATA cards installed.

Basically, is it worth the hassle of starting fresh? I have a very complicated home server/media center combination setup.

Z87-GD65 USB and ATA/ATAPI Bridge Issues

I just installed a new Z87-GD65 into a Silverstone HTPC case and I'm having weird issues with all USB 3.0 ports. This problem occurs on both a Windows 10 technical preview install and a Windows 8.1 install. Everything is updated including the BIOS and, as far as I can tell, installed properly. I used Live Update 6 to verify the integrity of the motherboard drivers and BIOS version. I also double checked the build for any potential shorts or incorrectly plugged in devices and everything seems to check out.
Basically, what seems to be happening, is the computer is constantly losing connection with the USB 3 ports and is re-"scanning" to gain connection again. This makes all the USB 3 ports useless for any media or storage device and is extremely annoying when used with a mouse and keyboard. This "re-scanning" if that is what it is, is also causing all the i/o ports to freeze for a second or two so if I let's say, double click on a folder and this "scan" occurs, it takes a few seconds for the the folder to open. I also notice that a storage device plugged into any USB 2.0 port is more sluggish than usual and there is an overall delay in all mouse/keyboard input. This is a new motherboard and a new build although I have used all this external equipment and some internal with another computer with no issues at all.

If this is a Windows issue I'll re-install Windows 7 but if this is a hardware/driver issue I'd like to know how to fix it if possible as I can't return or exchange the board.

Everything works, or is at least detected, fine in BIOS. I already messed with the hand off settings and no dice.
I got tired of dealing with it so I formatted an installed Win 7 unfortunately the problem is still there. It's much less pronounced so I can actually use the computer without the weird freezing and stuttering issues but any time I try to transfer and or unzip any large file windows will lose connection and I'll get a "USB device has Malfunctioned" error. This does not happen on my other PC, unfortunately I need the hard drive bay on this PC.

Z87-GD65 wont boot from any drive, please help!

I have a brand new Z87-GD65 Mainboard.
When I select my boot device in BIOS all I get is: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
In BIOS I can find all my hardware (CPU, Drives, HDDs, DVD,... RAM) everything is shown correctly. Nothing missing there, all parts shown by correct values.
I cant boot through my DVD Drive or external USB Drive (on both I have Windows 7 which I want to install on my new system). The Windows DVD is also working properly, I checked it on my old PC.
No matter what Boot priority/device I choose (I think Ive tried them all by now) "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" is what I get after "save & reboot".
My BIOS Version is E7845IMS V1.8.
Any suggestions, what am I missing?

Z87-GD65 fails to boot when I enable X.M.P.

Guys, Looking for any advise out there. I have two systems with new Z87-GD65 with an Intel 4770K and 16GB ADATA RAM and one of the systems fails to boot whenever I enable X.M.P. I've switched out the RAM from one system to the other and everything is fine on one and same thing on the other. I've tried clearing out the CMOS and booting from both sets of bios. I have OC turned off. Everything is fine until I enable X.M.P. I'm at a loss any ideas?

Z87-GD65 won't Overclock

Got My Z87-GD65 back from RMA.When i try to set my 4770k to 4.2ghz in bios its reverts to 39 only.I have flash to latest bios and still same thing.It wont let me overclock at all.I switched to bios B,and still locked at 3.9ghz.Even OC Genie won't overclock it.Did i get a worst board than the one i RMA'd.The one i sent in had a bricked bios A,but B still worked.Even my ram i set the xmp profile to 2400,but only does 1600.

Z87-GD65 can't use 3TB disk drives on Intel SATA ports

I've been happily using my Z87-GD65 for several months now with a 256G SSD for Windows 8.1, and 4*2T spinning Seagate drives. I decided it was time to make 'em bigger. So I plugged in a 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 on one of the Intel SATA ports. The motherboard doesn't recognize there's a drive there at all. If I go ahead and boot, it's very slow to come up and Windows does recognize the drive, but it's unusably slow and eventually just hangs.
Ok... Flash the BIOS on the disk. No better.
Flash the MB BIOS. No better.
Plug in a WD 3T Red drive. Same exact symptoms.
Try different Intel SATA ports. Same symptoms.
Both drives work fine on two other completely different systems (both old LGA1155 systems).
Plug the drive in to the ASM1061 ports on the Z87-GD65 and poof... works like a champ. 170MB/sec from the Seagate, 150MB/sec from the WD.
Well, that's something, but I had intended to replace the 4*2T drives with 4*3T drives. Using the ASM ports is not the answer.
I checked the hard disk drive test report and it claims the ST3000DM001 was tried and works. So I'm pretty stumped. Old MB BIOS didn't work, new MB BIOS doesn't work, old Seagate firmware doesn't work, new Seagate firmware doesn't work, WD doesn't work, multiple ports don't work.
Surely other people are using large drives on these MB's.
Hints?

It does help knowing other people are getting the same hardware to work. Gives me hope.
My first thought was "ain't no way it's the OS" since the MB isn't showing the drives on the display of SATA devices. But just to do a quick check I slipped in a Fedora drive and booted and wow... no problems at all with using the 3T drives. Motherboard still claims no knowledge of them, but Fedora uses 'em fine.
ok... Update the Intel chipset drivers and the IRST and reboot and... it's better. Still broken, but better. Takes about a minute to boot instead of the usual 12 seconds, but once it's up it's working ok best I can tell. So it's getting hung up on something during boot.
Fine... reset the CMOS, PITA though that is since I have to yank the SLI graphics card to get to it.
Put it back together, boot, and... Windows won't boot.
I'm about ready to throw a tantrum but get it together and just start trying things. Yank all the drives but the SSD. No. Boot from Fedora. No. Yank the second graphics card. YES! Put it back in again. YES! Guess I didn't get it seated right the first time, or something. Sure felt ok going in, but I won't argue with results.
Boot W8.1 and... bingo... up in 11 seconds with 3*3T drives in it. And the CMOS claims to see the drives now.
Stripe 'em in Windows software and CrystalMark says it can read 490MB/s and write 450MB/s.

Slow shutdown Z87-GD65 Gaming

If I allow my Win64 system to go into sleep mode. Wake it up and then try to shutdown I find that it takes ages to shutdown once the black screen appears. It seems like it has shut down but the fans keep spinning for a good 20 seconds and eventually I will hear my speakers pop as the soundcard powers down. A reboot and then power down does not take anywhere as long. Regardless of what apps have been running or are running.
I also get random DPC latency spikes if I do not reboot after going to sleep or even just running on 'balanced' for a while. Setting power management completely off and rebooting resolves this.
Is this more likely to be a USB device causing the above issues?
