Z87-GD65 - updated BIOS gives no USB at all

hi,
i had the MSI live update application, well, updating my BIOS recently.
and now my whole system is non-functional
what an update!
when booting i can use the keyboard to get into the BIOS/EFI settings
but as soon as windows 8 x64 starts all USB connections are disconnected.
any suggestions on the settings that i have to have to enable windows 8 to function again?
thanks,

thanks for your comment ...
BIOS updating is a necessary thing as MSI does not support my GPU on its mainstream BIOS updates.
as it happens, another member of the forum told me that these BIOS updates were actually supported by MSI:

ABOUT the broken pin ..
well, if this motherboard worked as it was supposed to - there would be no need to spend days trying to troubleshoot it
in short, I would say **avoid** MSI like to plague

  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming BIOS Update

Bought this setup quite a while ago, running a 4670k on the z87 gd65 gaming board and thought about trying a bit of OCing, probably just gonna try out the OC Genie for now, but i was wondering if it would be a good idea to do a BIOS update or is that not necessary? Im still running on bios 1.3 which from what i can see on the msi site is a quite old one.

Quote from: flobelix on 23-September-14, 01:02:53
No, 1.3 is too outdated. If wanting to go for latest generation vga get the latest vga (1.B):
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7845IMS_1B0.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip
Thanks Flobelix, running windows 7 but i guess the procedure is still the same, are the ME drivers the chipset drivers? i downloaded the chipset drivers for my OS from the msi site (intel_chipse_9_mb.zip) or is it the "Intel Management Engine Driver+Microsoft hotfix".

  • Will the Z87-GD65 GAMING + bios update support an i7 4790K

    Hi,
I was checking MSI official webpage for the Z87-GD65 GAMING, and seems the last bios 1.9 2/14/14 says,
    Quote
    Support Next Generation Processors.
But no direct info if it supports the i7 4970K, i been very happy with 4770K but my Blue Iris camera server is asking for quad core to increase the framrates, so i could upgrade my main pc and move the 4770K but before committing, would be good to know my motherboard will support the CPU.
    Thanks for your time,

General consensus is the 4790k is a Haswell 4770k rebranded with better TIM and higher clock rate. It should work right out of the box on Z87. Should know for sure around the 25th of this month at the CPU release and people start testing it.

  • H55-GD65 update bios

    Hi.
I tried to update bios from 1.3 to 1.5. Via live update I downloaded exe file. After running file I was asked to turn off all running programs. I turned off all, but one soft still looked as running. Name was 1. Start. After force turning off this item win7 shut down screen appeared. So I was not able to update firmware this way.
I tried another solution: I found ami bios flashing utility in live update directory. Run and chose 1.5 file and update was executed. But after updating bios to 1.5, i have problems.
    1. ocgenie reduce auto overclocking my i5-660. Before updating I have 4200 MHz, now I have 3700 Mhz.
    2. I have very slow starting windows 7 x64 ulti since bios 1.5. I have SSD OCZ Vertex 2 and booting to win lasted few seconds. Now its about 30 seconds. i don't know where is a problem, but start of win significantly increased.
Any idea where is a problem with OC and slow booting win? Could it be a result of my not standard updating bios?
Thx. very much for any solutions.
    My PC:
    MSI H55-GD-65
    Intel I5-660
    GAINWARD BLISS GTS250
    ZEPPELIN 2x2GB
    SSD OCZ vertex 2 60GB

Turn off OC Genie, disable it in BIOS and then manually OC in BIOS.
Why did you update BIOS in the first place? If you didn't have any problem that needed update then go back to the older one. Just because there is is a newer BIOS does not mean you need to use it. Updated BIOS is to fix particular problems or most of the time update for latest CPU's. If neither applies to you then you should not have flashed the later BIOS.
Edit: Mine came with 1.0 and I needed to flash 1.2 to cure memory compatibility issue and have had no reason to flash any later BIOS than that.
    Hi.
I wanted to upgrade firware on my SSD disk. Updating firmware can be done only in AHCI mode, I tried to switch from ide to ahci but NTLDR error appeared. So first I tried to update bios. (still ahci mode doesn't work in win7 ultimate x64, every sopution I found doesn't work).
Manual OC - I could manually OC, but I'm not very skilled in oc, so that's why I bought msi mainboard with ocgenie. Maybe I downgrade firmware back to 1.3.

Are they stopping with driver support for older notebooks?

  • MSI Z87-G45 Updated bios to 1.3 with M-Flash without ME

So is this a problem ? should ME be updated as well ?
I went from the first bios to this one but only saw later on that is was suppose to be flashed with ME.
So should i re flash the bios ? if anyone can tell me that would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Nevertheless,  yesterday I was upgrading the bios to version 1.4 and bricked the board. BSOD during erasing flash and that's it. PC never boot again. Now sending to RMA. So be careful with flashing! This board does not have dual bios unfortunately :(
I had to RMA a brand new board the first month I had it because out of the box I could not update the board. When I called MSI support they a) had zero RMA stock available and b) were going to try to give me refurb until I threw a fit. I had purchased some upgrades and it was about two weeks before the build so I was unable to return to the seller for an exchange and directed to MSI.
After a couple weeks MSI ended up sending me a new retail board that had been "personally QC'd" by the tech I had dealt with on the phone. I was assured the board could now by flashed and sure enough this was the case. The upper heatsinks were physically "damaged" however, not functionally but aesthetically. They must have touched plastic to them while they were nice and warm because there's a gob of fused plastic/disfigured heatsink now.
I also now hang trying to update. So, I'm pretty much done with board, done with MSI.

  • Have MSI p67 GD65 - update bios to 1.7 help.

    Hi there,
I want to update my bios to 1.7.
When I search on the site I don't see 1.7, only 1.6. Where are people getting 1.7? Also, I hear there's something else you need to download as well? Something about IME?
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Also, is it required to clear cmos? I have to take the case apart right?
    Thanks.

  • Looking for a stable 4.8 ghz (4770k/MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming) BIOS tips?

Yeah I know. It's a lot of volts. But other than deliding it, which I will do soon, I'm looking for any BIOS tips on decreasing the voltage and keeping it from getting the BSOD after an hour of gaming and general use. This whole platform is new to me since my last OC'ing experience was with socket 775/X38.
One approach I was thinking to take is using Aida64's stress test by individually stressing the cpu, cache and memory seperately since all the controllers are individual entities now. That way if the cache is crashing from lack of voltage maybe I can come down on the vcore, or maybe turn off XMP and run at 1333mhz, etc.. If you guys have any BIOS tips I would appreciate the help. Yeah I can do 4.5/1.26 all day long but what fun is that? Thanks!
    Current BIOS: E7845IMS V1.1
    Build date: 4/26/2013
    ME Version 9.0.2.1345
4.8 ghz/1.445V/2.0VCCIN/4.0Ring/1.2RingV/Enabled XMP profile, VDimm to 1.59. Undelided. Only ran Aida for 30 min on cpu test. Max core temps of 82C.
Another useful guide getting me to 4.8 was this:

Hijack the thread with next to useless replies, sing praises of brand-X, and then the responses are considered not nice? As xmad recommended, open a new thread with all of your systems components. From watching an uncle overclock his MSI Z87 to 50X on air cooling, it was relatively simple with some very slow and careful bits of trial and error done in small increments. It's a poor workman that blames his tools, think of it as a challenge if nothing else.

  • Z87-GD65 in bios

    Hello MSI
    1)  I'm getting a lot of bluescreens about IRQ, I read that I have to disable "plug & play OS" in bios, but I cant seem to find it, can MSI help me?
    2)  If I disable ACPI, (its on now) will I still be able to boot my current windows, or I have to format drive, if I change ACPI settings?

  • Z87-GD65 - ME firmware corrupted, not updating

Greetings. Today I updated my Z87-GD65's BIOS to 1.A. However, the conflicting directions on the motherboard's support site of using LiveUpdate while also using M-Flash confused me, so I ended up flashing in Windows. I felt like I shouldn't have, since I used M-Flash for the other BIOS updates I did, but I was ignorant to the true danger. The Windows AMI tool managed to clear the flash, and just when it was about to start writing, it bluescreened. This is the first time this machine has bluescreened since November last year when I was dialing in the overclocking settings (which I had reverted to stock for the flash), so I'm fairly sure it had to do with the tool itself.
The A BIOS was now bricked, the post code was stuck at F2 and it didn't recognize Ctrl-Home for USB boot or anything. After a bit of fiddling involving using the B BIOS to boot the forum tool, I re-flashed the A BIOS and am now able to boot from it again.
I now have a new problem.
The management engine firmware seems to be completely absent. I did a BIOS dump to my flash drive and it was about 2MB short in size compared to the BIOS file from the site.
If I try to reflash with M-Flash, it does the BIOS and restarts as it should when the progress bar gets to about 50%, but immediately restarts again after the splash screen without updating the ME firmware. The forum tool doesn't do it either. I tried the clear CMOS button and removing the CR2032, no result. As a result the ME features do not work in the OS, such as vcore and TDP perpetually reporting as 1.15v and 1W in Intel XTU. The machine is still perfectly stable otherwise, though. Management engine shows up in device manager but it says it cannot start. Its drivers are installed.
I seem to be having a nearly identical problem to this fellow. I tried putting the valcheck.com file in the archive from that post in my BIOS archive for the forum tool, but it did not work. It just exited immediately after it did the backup. Can something similar be done for this motherboard to restore management engine functionality?
    Thank you!
EDIT: I discovered I'm now unable to enter S3 sleep. The screen fades to black, but then pops up after a second with the login screen, no fan spindown was observed. Might be related, but might be due to other ACPI settings that I neglected to set in the wiped-clean BIOS settings. I can't check right now as I'm away from it.

Alright. Little bit stuck again now. Different problem, but I felt it was a bit silly to start a new thread about it. I can't, for the life of me, get S4 hibernation working. It still has the aforementioned result of putting me back at the login screen right after fading to black with no saving RAM to disk and no shutdown. S3 sleep works fine. Before the BIOS/ME debacle S4 worked fine too.
What I have tried (no particular order):
    powercfg -h on/powercfg -h off to rebuild hiberfil.sys
Disabling all wake events in BIOS
Disabling all wake events in Device Manager (Wake-on-Lan, etc)
Disabling the integrated Ethernet controller entirely (I use a USB wireless adapter so it's unused anyway)
    Full defragment
    Reinstalling ME drivers
    powercfg -energy, nothing unusual reported
powercfg -lastwake, returned that there were no wakes at all
Unplugging all external devices, then trying to hibernate
Reducing shared integrated graphics memory (I use Virtu MVP, you see)
    Disabled all Windows sharing features
Removed a networked printer from my devices list
I remember back when I had a dual-boot Win7/Ubuntu setup in an X58 build that it had this behavior with hibernation unless it's booting from the first partition of the first hard disk (Caused me major gripe because Linux and GRUB was on the first hard disk), but that doesn't apply here because this Windows is running off a RAID0 array, which is the only volume in the system.

  • Z87-GD65 + i7-4790K + BIOS 1.B and reset freeze

    Hello,
after looking for a few days for a solution to my problem which is reset freeze this is my last resort.
Recently upgraded CPU from 4770K to 4790K on MSI Z87-GD65 and I'm getting reset freeze.
Screen goes black (no signal), fans are spinning and system stays in this state.
People say to update BIOS to 1.B (1.11) which is latest one but this did not solve the problem.
After restoring default settings in BIOS system reset correctly once and then it hangs again.
It doesn't matter if the reset is from windows or linux of from BIOS after saving changes.
I was flashing BIOS from BIOS menu using M-FLASH and pendrive.
    Any suggestion are appreciated.

    Clearing CMOS didnt help.
CPU is seated correctly I made sure of that and pins are straight, I'm very careful with that.

  • Slow shutdown Z87-GD65 Gaming

If I allow my Win64 system to go into sleep mode. Wake it up and then try to shutdown I find that it takes ages to shutdown once the black screen appears. It seems like it has shut down but the fans keep spinning for a good 20 seconds and eventually I will hear my speakers pop as the soundcard powers down. A reboot and then power down does not take anywhere as long. Regardless of what apps have been running or are running.
I also get random DPC latency spikes if I do not reboot after going to sleep or even just running on 'balanced' for a while. Setting power management completely off and rebooting resolves this.
Is this more likely to be a USB device causing the above issues?

    You have 3 PCI-E x16 slots (x8-x4-x4) and 4 PCI-E x1 slots.
On the other hand, your CPU is limited to 16 PCI-E lanes.
Those 3 x RB44Ge routers are PCI-E x4, so you're going to use ALL the PCI-E x16 slots for them.
With the remaining PCI-E lanes you need to be lucky ...
