Z87-GD65 USB headset and BIOS 1.7 problems

OK...as i've stated on these forums before there is a problem with attaching USB headsets with this motherboard. There is already many posts about the problem so it "is a problem". F.R.E.Q 5 headphone will not work with the mobo, other people on these forums have also complained about razor headsets not working, as I agree with that it is a well known razor has compatibility issues I still think this is a mobo issue that MSI need to address. Logitech G35 work fines...but every other usb headset i've tried doesnt...this is on both 1.3 bios and 1.6. I've also tried other workarounds to no avail.
Any MSI guys readin this...these are the headphone i'm talking about
http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/freq5.htm
NOW..the BIOS issue...the new 1.7 that has been released...DONT FLASH IT....it just bricked my mate mobos...lucky the GD65 has dual bios. I tried it to see if it happened to get his freq 5 working...but the PC wouldn't post.
Any comments or development on this situations on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Personally I don't think it's a problem with a BIOS.
Have you tried updating all the drivers? Especially Audio..
Like I said, i've tried every workaround from bios to drivers. Been on these forums, other forums, other sources and no solution seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the headphones as they work on every other PC i've tried and those have had different mobos. Those headphones even work on my Z87 MPower MAX no problem..it is just this Z87 GD65 board. Could be just a bad apple out of the bunch...but I doubt we'll get a RMA for it just cause one sort of headphones wont work on it. Now my mate got a pair of $170 headphones sitting there he cant use.
And as the to 1.7 bios...just by going off the few posts on here i'd be pulling it asap, obviously not alot of testing has been done on it. Just lucky the board has the dual bios option.

  • Plugged in USB headset and screen went blank

Last night I was playing Far Cry and the wife complained about the noise. So I plugged in a Logitech USB headset, and, ping! -- out goes the monitor.
All four LEDs on the MSI diagnostic bracket turned red. I unplugged the headset and rebooted--everything was fine. Any ideas?
    Notes:
-I plugged headset into USB port on front of case, which is connected to one of the two internal 10-pin mobo ports (JUSB1 or JUSB2 I think).
-I have a 7-in-1 card reader plugged into the other 10-pin USB internal port.
    Thanks,
    RE

Thanks will try that. Also try using the other JUSB headed.
Funny-- the headset works fine when plugged into the USB port on the memory card reader...

  • Z87-gd65 --USB Headet not working and cant bios

Ok, i have a z87-gd65 and my usb headset will not work at all in SLI. I take one card out, it then seems to work..sumtime, must take it in and out everytime i restart PC and hopes it works.
After some research I seem to need 1.4 or higher beta bios to solve this problem however after following your guides to the letter the board refuses to update bios. When you click the file through MFlash the system just freezes. Im worry even it 1.4 or higher bios come out of beta and are standard I will still not be able to update the bios and i'll be still in my first predicament...no usb sound working.
Please help...or should i just RMA the board??

USB stick bootable? If not, use the forum tool 'Fix My USB Key' option first. USB stick formatted FAT32? Follow the instructions in the link.

  • Z87-GD65 USB and ATA/ATAPI Bridge Issues

I just installed a new Z87-GD65 into a Silverstone HTPC case and I'm having weird issues with all USB 3.0 ports. This problem occurs on both a Windows 10 technical preview install and a Windows 8.1 install. Everything is updated including the BIOS and, as far as I can tell, installed properly. I used Live Update 6 to verify the integrity of the motherboard drivers and BIOS version. I also double checked the build for any potential shorts or incorrectly plugged in devices and everything seems to check out.
Basically, what seems to be happening, is the computer is constantly losing connection with the USB 3 ports and is re-"scanning" to gain connection again. This makes all the USB 3 ports useless for any media or storage device and is extremely annoying when used with a mouse and keyboard. This "re-scanning" if that is what it is, is also causing all the i/o ports to freeze for a second or two so if I let's say, double click on a folder and this "scan" occurs, it takes a few seconds for the the folder to open. I also notice that a storage device plugged into any USB 2.0 port is more sluggish than usual and there is an overall delay in all mouse/keyboard input. This is a new motherboard and a new build although I have used all this external equipment and some internal with another computer with no issues at all.
    System Specs:
PSU: 850w Coolermaster with front panel fan control
    Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65
    CPU: Intel i5 4670k
    Video Card: MSI GTX 770
RAM: 16GB of G-Skill Sniper series memory
    Storage/Media:
    128GB Samsung SSD (OS)
2x128Gb Crucial SSD Raid 0 (Games)
1TB Western Digital black (general programs)
    2x2TB Western Digital Green (storage)
I also have a Medisonic 4-bay USB 3.0 enclosure with 3x2TB drives and one 3TB drive.
If this is a Windows issue I'll re-install Windows 7 but if this is a hardware/driver issue I'd like to know how to fix it if possible as I can't return or exchange the board.

Everything works, or is at least detected, fine in BIOS. I already messed with the hand off settings and no dice.
I got tired of dealing with it so I formatted an installed Win 7 unfortunately the problem is still there. It's much less pronounced so I can actually use the computer without the weird freezing and stuttering issues but any time I try to transfer and or unzip any large file windows will lose connection and I'll get a "USB device has Malfunctioned" error. This does not happen on my other PC, unfortunately I need the hard drive bay on this PC.

  • Flashing of MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING failed and dual bios not helping, not sure why?

    Hi all
For the first time in 20 years Ive had a firmware flash fail it seems.
I have a MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING and updated the bios with the latest firmware via the "M-FLASH" utility within the systems bios.
All seemed to have gone well, it flashed to 100% rebooted and then just a blank screen and a sequence of keyboard light flashes.
After a minutes panic I thought not to worry, the motherboard has a dual bios.   So I powered down and switched the bios switch to bios B hoping it would assist and the problem is identical.
    Any tips anyone?

I just tried this along with removing power from the main board and it seems one of the two did it!   thanks

  • New Z87-GD65 USB Issues?

Trying to find out if I need to return a newly installed board to the store for an exchange. I have another PC, with this same board, that was built back in August, and it works great.
If I go into the BIOS, sometimes the USB drive is detected and sometimes not. Had to reboot 3 or 4 times to even get it to see a usb drive to load Windows 8.1.
In windows it will detect a usb flash drive about half the time. I have an ASUS N-53 USB Wireless stick that has only been detected one time. NOTE - All of the items I have plugged in work without fail, on the same board, in another PC. I thought it first it was maybe the front ports in the case (Fractal Design R4) but it has the same issue on the backside ports that are coming directly off the board.
I have reset the bios to defaults and also flashed the bios to latest. Also tried it on bios B to make sure it wasn't something specific to BIOS A. Since I was having the issues before even installing Windows, I'm going with a faulty board. Before I go through the trouble of returning the board, is their anything else I can do to check?

    As a follow-up...
I went back to the store and did an exchange. The new board is working like a champ, so I assume the USB controller was bad on the original. Just got unlucky on that last one.
As I stated previously, this is my second Z87-GD65 and I really like it. I would recommend.

  • Z87-GD65 USB 3.0 Issue

I've owned a Z87-GD65 for about a month now, and USB 3.0 has connection issues:
I have an external usb 3.0 harddrive that will randomly disconnect and reconnect several times a day.  It also tends to disconnect when waking from hibernation or sleep mode.  The harddrive doesn't have this problem when plugged into the USB 2.0 ports.
    Troubleshooting completed:
Tested multiple usb 3.0 ports with the same result.
Tested harddrive in usb 2.0 ports with no issues.
Flashed motherboard BIOS to newest version with no change in results.
Disabled power saving mode for both the harddrive and the usb 3.0 controllers with no change in results.
Uninstalled and reinstalled latest drivers for the usb 3.0 controller with no change in results.
The intermittent nature of this problem is beyond frustrating.  What can I do?  Do I need to RMA the board?

  • Z87-GD65 - Need help updating BIOS, might've bricked

I recently tried to flash/update my motherboard and I think I might've bricked it. Could somebody confirm and tell me what I should do?
I have the MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard with an Intel i5 4690k.
My BIOS was an older version and I needed to update to support Haswell refresh. This is what happened:
I downloaded the latest BIOS update from the MSI website, extracted the files to a USB. I plugged that in and updated the BIOS through the MFLASH feature in the MSI BIOS. I updated the MSI BIOS & ME with the USB and I think the updating got to around 30-40% before the screen went black then after a little bit I got back to the BIOS menu. I checked the version and confirmed that the BIOS was updated to the latest version.
Thereafter I restarted my computer a few times and noticed that it took a little longer for the system to get to the prompt to enter "DEL" to get to BIOS compared to the first time when I booted my computer. Everything else seemed fine so I went ahead and turned off the computer again and removed the USB and replaced it with another USB to install Windows. Then as the computer booted I see an screen that shows the BIOS and ME is updating from 30%-100% then my screen went black. Now when I turn on the computer it remains black but the system powers on/fans work.
I looked up several sources to make sure I was flashing the MOBO correctly and I followed all the directions I found through MSI.
I pretty much followed the instructions here exactly:
Also I think my motherboard comes with a back-up BIOS. Is that a viable option to switch to? Are there any difference, how does it work? Also would resetting the CMOS do anything? I've been trying to figure out how I can fix the problem without having to RMA but was hoping to get some more knowledgeable advice before doing anything.
    Thanks!

    1. Could you elaborate on step D? How do I make sure legacy USB is enabled?
Enter bios -> Integrated periphals and check the USB settings.
Quote from: danielsuh on 29-March-15, 07:31:59
    2. In step F, do I have to flip the switch to BIOS B on my motherboard then boot the computer with the USB plugged in?
You should already be at the working bios (b) so there should be no need for switching. But of course boot from the good bios.
Quote from: danielsuh on 29-March-15, 07:31:59
    3. Step G: How do I switch back to the bad BIOS without restart/powering down? Do I flip the switch on the motherboard to BIOS A while the computer is still on?
Yes, you switch to the bad bios WITHOUT restarting or turning off while the machine is running.
Quote from: danielsuh on 29-March-15, 07:31:59
    4. Step H: Will the directions be on a prompter once I switch to the bad BIOS or are there some directions online I'm missing?
Once you switched nothing will change for you. You will have the options from the MSI USB tool youbooted from the stick we prepared earlier. There you select the number of the flash option

    Thank you so much!
I have a few clarification questions.. just for reference this is all for a new PC I just built and doesn't have any OS installed:
    5. Step I: What exactly is the ME drivers? When I originally tried to flash the drive there were two options: Update BIOS and Update BIOS & Me. So after I flash the 1B BIOS, I install windows as normal then once I get to the desktop I install the ME drivers in the link, right?
Right. What comes with the bios is the ME firmware (hardware level) but in Windows you also need to install the driver (software level). Therefor you install the driver linked after all went fine and you are back in Windows.

  • MSi z87-gd65 OC Genie and RAM frequency issues

    Hey all,
I just built a new computer (my first build), and am quite glad with the capabilities of the machine. However, whenever I try to turn on OC Genie or bump up my ram speed to 2400 MHz(I believe this is the native speed, but the motherboard puts it down to 1333MHz) the system fails to boot, and sometimes hangs in a rebooting cycle. Eventually, the motherboard gives an error on the screen saying that the changes made have failed and was restored to default settings, and to press f1 or f2.
I admit I am a complete novice at overclocking, and probably do not know what I did wrong. I've updated the bios, cleared cmos, and tried both bios A and B, but have got the same results. I was hoping I could get some help on this forum and learn new workarounds! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey man, thanks for replying. The first thing I tried, before overclocking, was to enable XMP from the UFEI. When i enabled it, the board would show that memory was OC'd to 2400MHz and bumped up to 1.65 voltage. This is all shown prior to rebooting. When I would reboot the computer however, the system would fail to boot and I would get the same error saying all "overclocking failed, reset to default settings". I believe that my ram is the cause for my inability to overclock. I found out that motherboard is not compatible with it at extreme speeds. The max speed I can get out of my ram is 2133MHz with no problem whatsoever in rebooting. This is without changing the voltage of the ram( keeping it at 1.5v) . If I change the ram voltage, I'm pretty sure it would fail to boot.
Yeah good luck with OCing and please let me know if you find anything useful. I'm afraid that this forum does not have much to offer, so you may want to try some other forums.
Jms and Xfx are right. By default mine booted to at 1600mhz. I enabled XMP and it brought it to the rated speed of 2133mhz. I'm not trying to overclock my ram further than the rated speed. Pointless to me, considering I'm coming from a rig that had ddr2 with 800mhz. As you can see in my pic, the one with blue LEDs is the 7.5 year old build. Still going strong. Anyhow, if you do overclock, make sure you disable the XMP. That way you can eliminate another possible instability issue. I'm a member of a few forums, and I was suprised to see these forums not respond very well. For the guys who did respond, I thank you! You may also want to check out overclock.net   There's are plenty of people there and "clubs" you can be a part of. I'm finding a lot of useful information there. Most people won't get mad about noob questions unless you do like me and ask the same ones in multiple threads lol! Hop on over there and check it out. My name there is Scotty Mac.

  • Z87-GD65 USB madness....

    Hello -
    Fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro...on the GD65 w/ 4770k.
Installed fine w/ optical disk everything looks good - stable etc.... With one exception!  My USB keboard and mouse work great, however if I plug in a thumb drive or iphone I get some really odd activity.  The phone will charge, but will not connect.  The thumb drives (i've tried a couple now that work in other PCs) connect and disconnect rapidly.  If i'm fast, I can catch it every now and then for a couple seconds but it disappears pretty quick.  My mobo is a C2 rev. and it came with 1.8.  I tried to flash within the BIOS, and could not get it to read any USB drive on all ports.  I tried using the MSI tool to make a bootable and didn't have any luck. (i've enabled legacy devices in BIOS, and changed the boot order and also tried F11).
I flashed successfully to 1.9 with the Live Update tool but i have no change with my USB ports.  FWIW when i'm in the BIOS and plug in a USB thumb drive I get brief freezing where the mouse becomes unresponsive... also I see a 9C (at the bottom right when booting) error when rebooting occasionally which goes away if I pull the thumb drive out.
Am I missing something?.... help a frustrated guy out?

Also i have tried multiple times to boot from the usb - to get the system to recognize the usb it has to be in a usb 3.0 port, and then restart and (with all other boot devices disabled) it says "missing operating system" I've tried this on 2 usb devices from another pc after applying the USB fix and still nothing.  Interestingly enough if i hit f11 and get the usb stick to appear and select it... it boots to windows which is crazy as I've disabled the ssd as a boot device.
I'm really at a loss here.
Also, I tried disabling the various usb functions in BIOS... no effect.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 USB Razer Megalodon not recognized by windows!?

Hi guys, I recently just upgraded my PC and everything is okay except my USB Headphones are not recognized on this system oO I had to reinstall windows to get the motherboard to be compatible with my setup and after updating windows and looking up the problem, I haven't found an answer.
The Headphones work 100% sure because they worked on my old mobo and my laptop that is right next to me.
Says its an unknown device and has a ? next to it. Also these headphones use the Windows USB Generic Audio Driver but for some reason its not working.
Any help would be appreciated alot

Try the latest Bios: >>Beta BIOSes<<
I will check for a newer version as well right now.
    Edit: .141 is the latest.
Might want to check for a firmware update for the usb device as well.
Edit#2: Install the ram properly and see if that changes anything. Locking this topic as it is a duplicate.

  • USB Headset and Audigy 2 probl

I've got an Audgy 2 soundcard, with the latest drivers installed, and I'm running across a problem that I believe has to do with a USB headset I just purchased. It's just a standard Audigy 2 card, I've had it for awhile and I'm using the latest drivers for it. The card works great, but for some reason lately it's just been putting sound out over two speakers instead of all fi've. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the headset, which is a Logitech USB Premium Headset 350 model thing. If I uninstall and reinstall the creative console it'll work again. I've noticed when it's not working the creative audio console won't let me select what type of speaker setup I have to sync with the windows one. And by "won't let me select" I mean there are no options at all to choose from. I'm pretty sure this is caused by the USB headset, but I wanted to get another opinion. Am I pretty much screwed if I want to keep using this headset?

sounds like i'm overstating the obvious but if its a A2 zs theirs a headphone socket
in the middle of the external unit.
    ps.
why use logitech speakers? with creative speakers you might not have this problem

  • USB headset and MBP

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this question. If there is a better forum, please let me know.
I spend a lot of my time in the late evening hours in a flash-based internet chat room where we broadcast audio and video. I do fine if I use my internal speaker and my iPod earbuds.
I would like to use a headset that has the audio transmitted to the earpieces (which works fine) along with an integrated microphone (which isn't working).
I've tried a couple of different headsets whose microphone input don't work. A technical paper I read said that the input needs to be powered/amplified. This would make sense, because the headsets I've had were straight from the headset to the audio input port without amplification.
    However....
I have a Plantronics DSP-400 headset that plugs into a USB port. I get beautiful audio coming to the headset speakers, but I can't get the microphone to work.
I went into System Prefernces > Sound and the Plantronics doesn't show up as an option for the Input subtab. Naturally, I can't get any sound from the headset.
Should this be a Plantronics question?
The Plantronics site for this model says that there should be no drivers for Mac OS X, that it should work as is.
    Thanks!
    Deb

I have a similar problem: the sound prefs won't stick at all.
I would like sound effects to go through the internal speakers,
I would like sound output (such as iTunes music) to go to my Duet,
I would like sound input to come from my Sennheiser USB headset.
I can re-set this every time I want to the above settings, but only closing and opening the system prefs for sound will show that the sound effects are already re-set to "Selected sound output device"
Re-booting will also re-set the sound prefs, but seems to have unpredictable results: sometimes, but not always, the volume of the input device is set to 0
    Any suggestions?
