Z87-GD65 - VS Razer Megalodon USB Headset

So ived build  a brand new system and i bought a brand new razer megalodon headset asswell and it dosent work at all with the motherboard i had both headset and the MB replaced and didnt help at all, ived looked at tons of forums and triede evry thing they recomemded but nothinjg helped, when i pluged it in it says *USB Device not recognized* its starting to get really frustrating and im starting to believe that the only fix is returning the motherboard and cpu and buy a Z77 instead !!    Z87

It doesn't work with your board as it doesn't with all kinds of combinations. If it works with those devices you tested fine but that doesn't change the fact that it doesn't work on your board.
Anyway from this point on we can't help you. Either you ask Razer and report your problem or you don't. You may also contact MSI if you like: >>How to contact MSI.<<

I can't get my headset (Razer Megalodon) to work with this MB (and Windows 8.1).
It works just fine on two other PCs I have with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
I have tried "everything", deinstalling/installing drivers, BIOS (running the latest beta now)  etc.
Same issue with both USB2 and USB3.
Don't know what to do but getting fairly convinced this is due to the Motherboard.
    Ideas?

Your answer is quite flippant and you give no reason other than blaming Razer.
The headset works just fine on two other PCs I have. One running Windows 8 and one running Windows 8.1.
It does not work at all on this PC with Windows 8.1. Neither USB2 or USB3 works.
Kind of looks like it's related to this MB and drivers doesn't it, since that is the only difference?

  • Z87-GD65 Can't install USB 3.0 Driver from MSI Site

I have windows 8.1 64bit and i can't install the usb 3.0 driver from the site. It says i do not meet the minimum requirements but after reading them i actually do. This board has so many problems with windows 8/8.1 i just might rollback to windows 7 to rid myself of the issues but shouldnt have to. Is there anything i might be missing?? drivers, software etc..

hmmm, sounds like windows 7 is the way to go with this board for stability. Looks like a future format is in order haha. I went to windows 8 for the boot time which is impressive over 7 but other then that...i hate it haha. Might format the old beast tonight and see what breaks next

  • Z87-GD65 USB headset and BIOS 1.7 problems

OK...as i've stated on these forums before there is a problem with attaching USB headsets with this motherboard. There is already many posts about the problem so it "is a problem". F.R.E.Q 5 headphone will not work with the mobo, other people on these forums have also complained about razor headsets not working, as I agree with that it is a well known razor has compatibility issues I still think this is a mobo issue that MSI need to address. Logitech G35 work fines...but every other usb headset i've tried doesnt...this is on both 1.3 bios and 1.6. I've also tried other workarounds to no avail.
Any MSI guys readin this...these are the headphone i'm talking about
    http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/freq5.htm
NOW..the BIOS issue...the new 1.7 that has been released...DONT FLASH IT....it just bricked my mate mobos...lucky the GD65 has dual bios. I tried it to see if it happened to get his freq 5 working...but the PC wouldn't post.
Any comments or development on this situations on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    Personally I don't think it's a problem with a BIOS.
Have you tried updating all the drivers? Especially Audio..
Like I said, i've tried every workaround from bios to drivers. Been on these forums, other forums, other sources and no solution seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the headphones as they work on every other PC i've tried and those have had different mobos. Those headphones even work on my Z87 MPower MAX no problem..it is just this Z87 GD65 board. Could be just a bad apple out of the bunch...but I doubt we'll get a RMA for it just cause one sort of headphones wont work on it. Now my mate got a pair of $170 headphones sitting there he cant use.
And as the to 1.7 bios...just by going off the few posts on here i'd be pulling it asap, obviously not alot of testing has been done on it. Just lucky the board has the dual bios option.

  • MSI Z87-G45 + Razer Megalodon

Hi guys n gals of msi, before we get down to it, yes there are topics about this and ive searched trough them but cant find a definitive answer.
So here it goes, im using a MSI Z87-G45 with my lovely razer megalodons, and heres my issue, i can get sound, and my microphone to work, but not at the same time, if i lets say use skype, it will mute my microphone, letting me hear what my partner says, but if i use spotify, i cant then use the voice recorder to record my voice, but if i dont use neither, i can start recording my voice, but then i cant turn music on.
I dont know what has caused this, ive recently upgraded my motherboard, and did a fresh install, worked fine until i went trough and installed all of the latest drivers etc, and now i have this issue, dont know if i shall just kiss my razers goodbye and go back to my old siberia v2.
Anyone ever heard of this issue before, or how to solve it, googling or searching didnt give any answers at all, ask any questions and ill try to answer them asap
    tyvm before hand / rob

All you can do is flash the bios to the latest version and update all the drivers to the latest.
    >> BIOSes<<
Also update the firmware of the Razer equipment.
If nothing you need to contact MSI and Razer.

I'll check for any newer releases.

I can only conclude the USB 2 implementation on this Motherboard is dodgy.
That is a quite an assumption, it would be one thing if it wouldn't work at all or would for instance cut in and out. Perhaps if devices other than Razer products had this many issues I would come to the same. I have used Razer gear on all kinds of equipment and usually have had some quirks. (I love Razer gear btw, BUT THEY CAN BE A PAIN IN THE BUTT) This sounds much more like a driver issue, is this windows 8?

  • Z87-gd65 --USB Headet not working and cant bios

Ok, i have a z87-gd65 and my usb headset will not work at all in SLI. I take one card out, it then seems to work..sumtime, must take it in and out everytime i restart PC and hopes it works.
After some research I seem to need 1.4 or higher beta bios to solve this problem however after following your guides to the letter the board refuses to update bios. When you click the file through MFlash the system just freezes. Im worry even it 1.4 or higher bios come out of beta and are standard I will still not be able to update the bios and i'll be still in my first predicament...no usb sound working.
Please help...or should i just RMA the board??

USB stick bootable? If not, use the forum tool 'Fix My USB Key' option first. USB stick formatted FAT32? Follow the instructions in the link.

  • Z87-GD65 USB and ATA/ATAPI Bridge Issues

I just installed a new Z87-GD65 into a Silverstone HTPC case and I'm having weird issues with all USB 3.0 ports. This problem occurs on both a Windows 10 technical preview install and a Windows 8.1 install. Everything is updated including the BIOS and, as far as I can tell, installed properly. I used Live Update 6 to verify the integrity of the motherboard drivers and BIOS version. I also double checked the build for any potential shorts or incorrectly plugged in devices and everything seems to check out.
Basically, what seems to be happening, is the computer is constantly losing connection with the USB 3 ports and is re-"scanning" to gain connection again. This makes all the USB 3 ports useless for any media or storage device and is extremely annoying when used with a mouse and keyboard. This "re-scanning" if that is what it is, is also causing all the i/o ports to freeze for a second or two so if I let's say, double click on a folder and this "scan" occurs, it takes a few seconds for the the folder to open. I also notice that a storage device plugged into any USB 2.0 port is more sluggish than usual and there is an overall delay in all mouse/keyboard input. This is a new motherboard and a new build although I have used all this external equipment and some internal with another computer with no issues at all.
    System Specs:
PSU: 850w Coolermaster with front panel fan control
    Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65
    CPU: Intel i5 4670k
    Video Card: MSI GTX 770
RAM: 16GB of G-Skill Sniper series memory
    Storage/Media:
    128GB Samsung SSD (OS)
2x128Gb Crucial SSD Raid 0 (Games)
1TB Western Digital black (general programs)
    2x2TB Western Digital Green (storage)
I also have a Medisonic 4-bay USB 3.0 enclosure with 3x2TB drives and one 3TB drive.
If this is a Windows issue I'll re-install Windows 7 but if this is a hardware/driver issue I'd like to know how to fix it if possible as I can't return or exchange the board.

Everything works, or is at least detected, fine in BIOS. I already messed with the hand off settings and no dice.
I got tired of dealing with it so I formatted an installed Win 7 unfortunately the problem is still there. It's much less pronounced so I can actually use the computer without the weird freezing and stuttering issues but any time I try to transfer and or unzip any large file windows will lose connection and I'll get a "USB device has Malfunctioned" error. This does not happen on my other PC, unfortunately I need the hard drive bay on this PC.

  • New Z87-GD65 USB Issues?

Trying to find out if I need to return a newly installed board to the store for an exchange. I have another PC, with this same board, that was built back in August, and it works great.
If I go into the BIOS, sometimes the USB drive is detected and sometimes not. Had to reboot 3 or 4 times to even get it to see a usb drive to load Windows 8.1.
In windows it will detect a usb flash drive about half the time. I have an ASUS N-53 USB Wireless stick that has only been detected one time. NOTE - All of the items I have plugged in work without fail, on the same board, in another PC. I thought it first it was maybe the front ports in the case (Fractal Design R4) but it has the same issue on the backside ports that are coming directly off the board.
I have reset the bios to defaults and also flashed the bios to latest. Also tried it on bios B to make sure it wasn't something specific to BIOS A. Since I was having the issues before even installing Windows, I'm going with a faulty board. Before I go through the trouble of returning the board, is their anything else I can do to check?

    As a follow-up...
I went back to the store and did an exchange. The new board is working like a champ, so I assume the USB controller was bad on the original. Just got unlucky on that last one.
As I stated previously, this is my second Z87-GD65 and I really like it. I would recommend.

  • Z87-GD65 USB 3.0 Issue

I've owned a Z87-GD65 for about a month now, and USB 3.0 has connection issues:
I have an external usb 3.0 harddrive that will randomly disconnect and reconnect several times a day.  It also tends to disconnect when waking from hibernation or sleep mode.  The harddrive doesn't have this problem when plugged into the USB 2.0 ports.
    Troubleshooting completed:
Tested multiple usb 3.0 ports with the same result.
Tested harddrive in usb 2.0 ports with no issues.
Flashed motherboard BIOS to newest version with no change in results.
Disabled power saving mode for both the harddrive and the usb 3.0 controllers with no change in results.
Uninstalled and reinstalled latest drivers for the usb 3.0 controller with no change in results.
The intermittent nature of this problem is beyond frustrating.  What can I do?  Do I need to RMA the board?

  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard Booting Windows 7 Trouble

Hi guys, today I bought the MSI Z87-GD65 Mobo, 2 Sticks of 4GB RAM and the Intel i7 4770. I bought these to upgrade my old system and the only other parts im using is my Nvidia GTX570, PSU and my 2TB Seagate HDD.
Everything hardware works normal, no abnormal signs.
My problem is when it boots up, it says "find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /win7ldr. Error 15: File not found"
I've tried using my windows 7 disc and it says all my stuff is still there and the startup troubleshooter doesn't find any issues. I tried putting my RAM in properly and its in nicely. (they are in the 3rd and 4th slot though) My power is fine, its just the BIOS isn't booting it =(
    -The BIOS is updated
    -No Hardware faults
Note: when i press any key to continue, it comes up with GRUB4DOS and has options like: "Windows 7 with SLIC Loader (Default)"
Please help me if you know anything!

Update: I changed the RAM and put them in the slots u suggested, no change.
Sorry, when i post my last anser, i didnt know your new problem
Sounds like old problem from time of XP to Vista.
Firsth. Take out that USB connection of your headset from PC.
Secend. Uninstall any driver that headset (or you) may have installed to your OS.
    Third. Run registercleaner program.
Fourth. Shotdown PC and then start again (dont just reboot!)
Fifth. Download and/or Install drivers for that USB headset.
    Sixth. Reboot that PC.
    Seventh. Insert that USB connection.
I hope this helps! Cheers, Mummy
If not i would try to ubdate intel chipset drivers(if MSI ones dont work, i would go to Intel site and try them from there) and if those dont help then another reinstall of OS and member to inser USB device after installing drivers for the device.

  • ALSA USB Headset Crackling Noise

Hi, I'm having some problems with my USB Headset that I'm using for my sounds, which when I play anything with sounds in it, it gives me crackling noises. I'm using ALSA and my headset is the Razer Megalodon, however, the headset works perfectly fine on Windows, just not on linux. I tried all of the usb ports on my computer and all of the solutions in the wiki for ALSA, such as using and installing asoundconf from AUR and adding "options snd-usb-audio nrpacks=1" to my /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf with no luck.
I even tried using PulseAudio, hoping that I'd get some better results, but sadly, I still get crackling noises. I even tried adding "tsched=0" in my /etc/pulse/default.pa with no luck.
Here's my lsmod: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/5333572 or if you prefer: http://ix.io/54h
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me fix this problem, thanks.

    This trick doesn't help too
Doesn't help me either, I tried adding that to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and still doesn't work. I tried changing from snd-hda-intel to snd-usb-audio and that doesn't work either. I even tried typing in: "modprobe snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N" and that didn't work. Also tried changing the snd-hda-intel of the modprobe command to snd-usb-audio, still doesn't work.
Anyone else have any ideas? This crackling noise is really obnoxious and makes watching things unbearable.
EDIT: I didn't fix the problem, but what I did was remove ~/.asoundrc and ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf. I edited /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and removed everything and added "blacklist snd_hda_intel" so I didn't have to deal with any onboard soundcards. I removed asoundconf from my computer and removed pulseaudio (just in case). All I have installed that's related to sound is: alsa-lib, alsa-plugins, alsa-utils, and lib32-alsa-lib. I'm going to be working with a completely clean configuration of ALSA, so if anyone has any suggestions please go ahead and let me test it out. Obviously if anything relates to snd-hda-intel, it won't work on mine because I blacklisted it, thanks. Also, what was funny enough was that when I completely uninstalled everything and had a clean configuration, my sound was working completely fine with no crackles for the first time! But when I restarted my computer, it went back to crackling for some reason.

  • Z87-GD65 problem with USB3

I just bought some new pieces to upgrade my PC, including the Z87-GD65 mobo, i5-4670K CPU and a Samsung SSD 840 PRO 256 GB drive.
Everything went smooth, installed Win 7, all updates, drivers etc.. ran for a day.
Next day i wan't to move the cabinet into my closet, which i do, turn it on and i get a AE error, claiming "hardware device is missing"..!?
A few hours later, i conclude, that when ever i put one of my USB(2) devices, like keyboard, mouse, headset into any of the USB3 ports, the BIOS forgets everything about my SSD (primary disc)...
Sofar i have solved it by pluugging it all in my USB2 ports.
Any had this before or know what the cause could be and if there is a fix ?

What USB3 drivers are you using?  Did you use the one on the CD?  MSI should have updated drivers on their webpage, and intel web probably has newers than MSI, try all drivers.
But tbh i had a similar thing happen on me on GT70One, i used the newer ones form intel and had some issues with messages of windows displaying not correctly installed, and some other things that i dont remember, all this were solved by using the latest from the MSI webpage, but i did reformat since the drivers created a mess that i couldn't uninstall.
Personally i like to install the newest Chispset, RST and USB from intels website, but with MSI laptops and motherboards.... its weird.  Btw im doing a Z87 GA65 build today, so you would save me the time to test at least one driver if you tell me what drivers gave you the problem? Intels, CD or MSI webpage?
