Z87 Mainboards VS SSD's

There have been quite a few reported issues of SSD's not working with Z87 mainboards. If you are experiencing this issue, please check the release notes and try the BETA bios.
>>BIOSes<<
Not all of the mainboard have an applicable bios yet, so if your's doesn't just hang tight as MSI is working on this and should have a fix directly.
Also, you may need to install the ssd into another computer and update the Firmware of the SSD as well.

I had an email from MSI today stating that it wasn't a BIOS issue and that they would not be issuing a fix.
I am very unhappy about this seeing as Asus gave a beta bios to www.hardocp.com for a review they were doing proving that it can be fixed in BIOS. "I reported this back to ASUS and it replicated the issue in-house and sent us over a Beta BIOS (as referred to earlier) that fixed the issue."
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/06/03/asus_z87a_lga_1150_motherboard_review/7
I don't believe that Asus can write a bios fix and MSI can't. So it looks like MSI are washing their hands of the issue, not impressed.
It's been mentioned already. It is between the board manufacturer and Intel what is allowed by the partners involved. Whatever brand-X decides to do is their problem if it turns out to bite them in the ass and backfire on them.
MSI, when the UEFI/BIOS support for Ivy was being considered, originally they were not going to offer any updates for series 6 chipsets. Pressure by consumers caused them to reverse the original decision. Rather than debate if that was overall a wise decision is best left for the Anything Under The Sun section of the forum. Contact MSI and ask if it is a hardware limitation (other than the chipset) or legal matter with their industry partner. For goodness sake, take a pro active role, stop the whining, and continue to send in tickets to MSI Technical about it.

  • Z87-G45 Detects SSD, but not Windows installed in it

So the problem started last night when my computer wanted to "update and shut down". I did that, and the next startup, the Killer 2200 would not work. So I followed the steps here to get rid of the killer suite and install just the driver. Hours later, I suffered my first BSOD with the error msg IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Now, every time I boot up, it will NOT detect the Windows 8.1 boot up, but it DOES detect the SSD that window's is installed.
So how do I fix it every time? I keep reflashing and reinstalling BIOS version 1.9, that has been the only method that has gotten my computer to detect windows.
I have talked to support already and they informed me that I need to send the motherboard in for repair/exchange. But does anyone have any advice in maybe attempting to fix this issue?

    Hi,
Your SSD or memory might be damaged.
Try use only one RAM stick at one time , and try with different RAM stick,
or run memtest/HDD test tool to see if the RAM/SSD is okay.

  • Z87-G45 Multiple SSD's & Multiple Boot WXP/W7/W8.1 ???

Hi there, gave up on my old K8T board following advice from BB2K and bought a G45 with a large i5k & 16GB memory & Geoforce GPU...all working great.
Have installed WIN 8.1 on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Also Win 7 on a second Samsung SSD and currently installing Win XP 64 on another Samsung SSD. Have updated them fully & used the MSI Live updater so each drive is as good as it gets patch wise.
Again individually each drive working great. But I do not know how to make the system multiple boot.
Tried briefly with all three drives. Machines sees them but no matter which hardware selection I make it goes into WIN 8.1. If I disconnect and just have one drive in, each O/S boots fine.
Having on a previous machine had WIN 8.1 control the boot of the same drive configuration, it was a bit flimsy and I'd prefer the MSI board do this via hardware but am unsure how to do that......to be honest first modern MB I've worked on since the bad old days (circa 2003) so unfamiliar with new options & terminology.
Can anyone suggest best way and options please to achieve this? Or is there an article or link you could point me towards?
Appreciate any pointers or help I can get from anyone. Made my first post a couple of weeks back and had super help with that one. Fingers crossed this time. Many thanks

to set up a RAID0 you go into the BIOS and change:
1: the drive mode to Raid
    2: save and exit
3: as it restarts hit CTRL+J
4: in the new interface tell it to make a Raid array
5: set it to Raid 0
6: assign all 3 Drives to the Raid 0
7: let it make the raid array
    8: format the RAID
    now your good to go
it may be easier to use the software boot manager as you will need to download the RAID drivers for your board and make sure you have them when you install each OS as you need the RAID driver for it to function correctly!
software boot manager: upside: would be easier to set up and more safe as you will have 3 intendant disks. downside: you do not like that way and they will only be at SATA 3 speed.
RAID 0: upside: would be more streamlined and would have a side effect of being alot faster during operation as you have 3 drives each with full SATA3 speed acting as a single drive (1500MB/s ish read so it will be incredibly fast)! Down side: if a drive goes bad you would have to start over again and make the raid and install the OS's again.
Very interesting stuff. Well that makes things interesting because the intention is to make the machine a sort of "thin client" or "netbook".....ish. I have a large RAID10 NAs which the aim is to take all the data management issues and leave the PC's with minimal data and apps on them.
And given that SSD's 'should' be more reliable than the old mechanical drives then you would hope that a potential drive failure should be a less frequent event.
I like the potential speed advantages and was not aware of that. And on the RAID front, would it be an option to step up to something like RAID5 or RAID10? Or would that be an overhead or complexity a bridge too far?
The drivers you mention, do you mean for the Samsung Pro 840 drives themselves?
I sense a rebuild coming on!
Edit: .... thinking on, I have access to another Crucial 256GB SSD. Would that be something I could add to the RAID array? If we are going to bite the bullet then I'd prefer doing it only once. And if the RAID 5 or 10 option really was an option then having 4 drives (3 Samsung and the larger Crucial one) would be a good way to go. But I read that all the drives have to be the same....is that the case? Certainly on my NAS box it is the case very specifically so.
But if I could add this unit it might make sense to do so.

  • Media encoder crash systématiquement durant l'export

    Merci d'avance.

    Mea Culpa.
I misread the big 7 as meaning PR7. Sorry to mislead you and to have misread your post.
It could be a myriad of things, but look at the second link in this link: Some suggestions...
There is some info requested, like Process Explorer (not Task Manager) and DXDIAG. Maybe that will shed some light, but temps and voltages are the first suspects.

  • Media encode CC2014.2 stops while exporting a premiere project

    Hello everybody,
I have a huge problem with media encoder CC 2014.2.
Every time I want to export a premiere project, media encoder stops : "media encoder CC 2014.2 as encountered a problem and needs to close".
I reinstalled everything on a clean and new SSD but the problem is still the same.
    My computer specs are :
    Windows 8.1 pro
    4770k
    32Gb RAM ddr3
    MB : asus z87 deluxe
    780ti
    SSD crucial 512Gb
Does somebody have encoutered that kind of bug ?
    Thanx

Last time I tried that, I was not even able to start encoding - receiving an error message from Adobe Media Encoder - which is what led someone in this forum to suggest to download and install WME, which worked then with the same edit of the project.  Now I get all the process going on (with WME), no error message, but as explained : under Vista x64 the final output won't play, and under XP, it will but with no sound.
What's funny now is that I can encode with H.264 (with Adobe MEdia Encoder), it plays out of sync on my Quick Time, but once uploaded to You Tube, it is perfectly synchronized.
I read something on another forum about this syncing problem suggesting to downgrade Quick Time (which I haven't tried yet) - apparently a suggestion by Adobe.

  • Lenovo service is not able to repair a X240 for 6 weeks now

For meanwhile 6 (!) weeks lenovo is not able to repair my X240. I never thought, that it would be so difficult to repair one of  lenovos highend laptops with 3 years service and extended warrenty
I have to mention, that this ist my 2nd X240. The first one was replaced by lenovo, because it was so bad build, that the local lenovo service denied to open the laptop.
The new one (4 months old) had until now two new displays,  three mainboards and a new SDD.
About the 10th of december i opened a service request at IBM ESC, because the laptop didn't boot and the new display (the one before died) showed such an extreme ghosting, that one could read on the lock-screen, what was on the screen, before i locked the screen. Second problem: the laptop didn't wake up from standby.
Got a ticket number, but the service needed weeks to get the needed parts.
In janaury 2015 the service showed up. Meanwhile the laptop booted again. They replaced the display and mainboard. The technician repaced the mainboard to be "sure" that this will not happen again. Result: the laptop didn't boot. His opinion: either the SDD or Mainboard or SSD cable is the reason. He did not use my "old" mainboard, instead he left and said they will contact me again. After he left i saw that he did not assemble the body of the laptop correct wtih the result, that above the rear battery the body was open and bent. And it happend.. nothing! They closed the ticket!!!
A week later the mailroom called and told me that ibm send a parcel. A new SSD! But.. no technician! So i called lenovo again. They told me to open the Laptop and replace the SSD. I refused that. The new X240 is not so easy to open. I told them too, that the SSD cable could be also the reason for the problem.
After DAYS (!) they send me a technician with a new mainboard and he repalced the SSD (which i had to send back to lenovo!). Again no success and he had no SSD cable.
I showed him the body of the laptop and he told me that this is not covered by the warenty. Pardon??? This was not my fault!
Lenovo didn't show up again until i called them. And again a new technician with a new mainboard and without an SSD cable showed up! And what happened? Right! Nothing! The new mainboard did not fix the problem! Surprise.
I called again the support. Told them, that i could not be so difficult to get an SSD cable and a technician.But.. they suggested to send the laptop back to lenovo to repair it. I told him that for 6 weeks the laptop is not working now and that i need that laptop fixed! I don't want to send it in and wait again weeks for the return. The extended warrenty says, that they will repair my laptop on my desk! He told me that he will solve my problem... And what did i get? Yeees, a sticker for a parcel and instructions how to contact UPS.
Sorry lenovo, that is the worst performance ever. 6 Weeks and lenovo is not able to replace a SSD cable and to get the laptop in the shape (closed body) that it was before 3 technicians ruined it.
So lenovo, sry, no carbon 2015 for me. I have to look for an other brand after a bunch of Thinkpads.

Thanks again - Alas, I've been there. Deleted Search a dozen times, at least, and tried installing it, initially using a PowerShell script (tried several scripts actually, from full-blown total Search Applications with extensive topologies to the most basic
of basics 'please just start without showing me errors'), PowerShell line-by-line to see where things went South, next tried installing through Central Admin (hoping that it was my own stupidity in overlooking things and hoping The System would get it right
for me), and eventually even tried using the config wizzard as a total and utter last resort - Nothing worked.
At first, I found out that removing a Service App needs a *little* bit more work than simply removing it through Central Admin, but by now I can truthfully state that if there's one thing I've become supergood at, it's removing Search Service Applications.Totally.
I will check out the article, though - I realized early on in my SharePoint experience that regardless of what you think you know, there's so much more to find out. I know, that's almost philosophical. That is, my friends, indeed the point I've reached...

  • After Effects CS4 crash on start-up: "Sweetpea failure"

    Hi folks,
this is my first post here in this forum, so I send best wishes to you all.
Here is the problem I am facing since today.
I am running CS4 Master Collection with the latest updates on my 64Bit Windows 8.1 Pro machine which is also up to date.
The hardware I am using is the following:
    Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40 GHz
    16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX660 running driver version 335.23
    Realtek Audio Card (on mainboard)
1x SSD for WIN and PROGs
1x 10000RPM HDD for footage and data
1x RAID 0 consisting of 2 HDD for working files and cache
The setup worked great. Then I installed Mocha AE 3.2.1 which worked as well fine and did not interfere with the performance of CS4.
But after installing the "mocha 3D track importer for AE 1.1.0" plugin from Imagineer Systems, After Effects did not start anymore, stopping with the statement:
    "After Effects can't continue: Sweetpea failure (48 § 58)"
This is what I already tried:
deleting the mocha 3D track importer Plugin
    restarting Windows
    stopping Kaspersky Anti Virus
uninstalling After Effects followed by a reinstall
uninstalling whole CS4 and running the Adobe Clean Script
reinstalling CS4 in clean Windows boot
    uninstalling Mocha AE 3.2.1
    reinstalling Mocha AE 3.2.1
performing an extended Google and Adobe Community Search, but:
this problem seems to happen not quite often to others
the solution in this thread is not available anymore and my audio drivers are setup fine
solutions in further threads are for MAC-OS only
I am actually running out of ideas as even reinstalling all relevant software - except OS - did not solve the problem.
Does anyone in the community have an idea on that subject?
Thanks a lot for any help and
    best regards,
    Michael

Thank you Todd for your effort.
Well, I fully understand and respect that Adobe does not grant any liability for CS4 under Win8 as they made the effort to develop and introduce newer releases of their software (namely CS5, 5.5, 6 and now CC).
As with that CS4 gets a little sign at the toe saying "deprecated" - which in fact is totally legitimate because their might be no capacity to thorougly test it.
But: just by saying that it will definitely run under Vista and it is not tested for reliability on Win8, it does not mean that it won't run under Win8.
In fact: Microsoft itself grants, that this specific software will be compatible with their OS and I may assume that my previous experience and that of those many other users running the combination happily, shows that CS4 is such a great product that it does its job stable on Win8 which is not the OS it was designed for.
My practical experience on that, having used CS4 on Vista and Win 8.1 both, moreover showed that it was horribly unstable under Vista and ran absolutely stable on Win8.1 till - well, yesterday.
Back to the topic: I do cast doubt on the theory that this specific issue, I explained above, is caused by incompatibility with Win8.1, that is because:
if it was related to Win8, many other users would have reported that issue
After Effects worked fine and stable under Win8 for quite a time till yesterday
all other Applications that I use from the bundle cause no trouble at all
To find back to the starting position where all the applications worked fine, I would like to know if you might suggest any troubleshooting - except buying a new Software package.
There might an option to turn on some kind of logging to see, what AE is doing until it halts, but I actually do not know how and where - so maybe you have more information on that.
The only thing I could realize at the meanwhile is, that by the time AE throws the Exception it shows the progress message "Cleaning up... Tracker Controls" on the splash screen in the background. This might be a hint to the previously used plugin from Imagineer.
Do you have suggestions how to savely remove a plugin like that?
I thank you a lot and send
    best regards,
    Michael

    HI
I have just striped my U310 down to replace the HDD as something is wrong with mine.  Looking inside the mainboard the SSD is a separate board and is used as a cashe and not a drive as such.  it would be possible to buy a larger capacity board but it would not become the OS.  The 500G HDD is the only drive and this has several partitions.
    hope that helps

Please run this test to find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't

Why don't you test your new computer with our Premiere Pro Benchmark (PPBM)?   If you are running CS6 or CC look at our ppbm7.com   If you explore all the information out there you may find your systems weaknesses, especially read the Tuning section.  You do have to register to see the results that others have obtained.  In the benchmark there is a test timeline that is exported to h.264.
As Eric said, the K2000 was not a good choice if you are using MPE GPU accelerated effects and features.  What is your complete disk system?

E-MU 0204 always worked excellent with my previous mainboard. Since I upgrade my PC to an Asus Z87 de luxe mainboard I am no longer able to use EMU 0204, since it freezes the mouse or disables mouseclicks as soon as I connect it. Disconnecting EMU immediately resolves the problem. There seems to be a strange interaction between EMU 0204 and this new ASUS mainboard. EMU works OK with my laptop.
Like before I am using Windows 7 64 bit.
Does anyone know a solution for this strange phenomenon?

Motherboards with Intel Z87 chipsets have USB 3.0 ports (blue in colour) and USB2.0 ports (black in color).
For legacy devices - try using the black USB2.0 ports.

  • Question about MSI Z87 boards and NVMe PCI-E SSDs

With the release of the Intel SSD 750 PCI-E SSD and more NVMe SSDs no doubt to follow, will the older motherboards like the Z87 series get updates so that they can boot with NVMe SSDs?
All of the Z97 and X99 boards already have compatibility:
    http://www.msi.com/news/1949.html
What about older chipsets like Z87, Z77? Z87 in particular is very similar to Z97, so I'd imagine it'd be the most likely candidate.

    Yeah I did.

MSI is there going to be a BIOS release to support the ability to boot off of nvme PCIe cards for the M87 boards?
MSI Tech.   05/14/2015   We unfortunately do not have any information regarding any future support for these series boards and supporting NVMe, you , you may continue to visit our news section for updates as they become available. http://us.msi.com/news/
I think is possible though - that and it's likely these boards may support Broadwell as well.
