Z87 MPOWER - BIOS 1.9 update question

Sorry for this, maybe stupid, question, but I want to clarify update BIOS procedure as in past there was an issue with LiveUpdate and BIOS.
On web page I read info for 1.9:
Quote
note
You must use the following methods to update this BIOS.
- Use MFlash to update "BIOS + ME"
- Use MSI LiveUpdate
Does it means that I can use (is it safe to use) MSI LiveUpdate (v6) to update BIOS to 1.9?

NEVER use LiveUpdate to flash a bios! Either download the bios from product site and use bios integrated MFlash with Bios+ME option (= don't just choose to flash just bios).
Alternatively and even safer is to flash with the forum prepared archive and method:
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
     F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me90_mb.zip

  • Z87 MPOWER - BIOS SHOW PROBLEM VER 1.7

    Hello,
I have a motherboard MSI Z87 MPOWER. After the bios update from version 1.5 to version 1.7 It threw me view bios.
After the update I made reset to default. Then I made changes to the settings and there was that incorrectly displayed viewed items.
When I clicked on something and it did not do anything (Nothing is transposed), and when I clicked on an empty space, so I climbed into subcategories. You can count on that, please? The BIOS was unusable. I had to do downgrate to v 1.6
    I apologize for my English

You need to scroll down for the latest bios.

  • Z87 Mpower Bios A bad, can it be recovered?

I tryed to update my MSI z87 Mpower motherboard bios and it failed because I had an unstable cpu overclock.
So I reset the cpu to stock speeds and was able to update motherboard bios through B.
Can I recover the A bios somehow?

Ok this is weird, B bios version is 7818IMSV1.10, when I cleared cmos yesterday it must have went back to original bios version? I think I need to flash 78181MS.1A0 on B. Which option in bios should I flash ''update bios'' or ''update bios and me''
    Yesterday I flashed A with 78181MS.1A0
    Thanks for sticking with me.

  • M50 Bios 1.9 Update question due to multiple issues on 1.7

    Hi
I have a Satellite M50-196 that I got only a few weeks ago and I've been experiencing many issues. The current Bios version on the laptop is 1.7 and from the bios page for M50 series I can see that there is a version 1.9.
I had to remove XP home and installed my copy of XP Pro with SP2. Everything went great. Everything works perfect except a few issues. Here goes:
    - First the Wireless Adapter has some sort of problem because when I connect to my home network from time to time I have to run repair connection on windows because it gets really slow. I have a 4mb cable connection at home and usually it runs at 400k... but from time to time stops completly and starts again after a few seconds and some other times gets as slow as 40k. This is not an cable provider issue or wireless base station issue because I have a desktop computer that uses wireless also with no issues. This happens with the laptop connected to the power supply or running on batt. I have the latest Intel 2200BG wireless adapter drivers.
    - The second problem is when I close the screen. The laptop should go to stand by but instead the standby light never gets orange and the laptop is completly locked. The power button stays blue, it does not shutsdown the laptop or turns it on even after leaving the button pressed for many seconds (15-20). The only way to solve the issue is to remove the battery completly and attach is again.
    - The third and final problem, so far, is with Virtual PC 2004 with SP1. The virtual machines run very slow, and the processos usage is most of the time at 99%. The time on a virtual PC goes faster than normal then it blocks completly and starts again. For example 10 seconds goes by in 5 seconds then it blocks for a few seconds. This behaviour seems to be happening with more people using centrino laptops with 915 chipset and some manufactors already fixed this. A guy on another forum reported that he fixed a DELL laptop with a recent bios update.
So because all of these I'm considering upgrading to version 1.9 of the bios but before I do I would like to know if anyone had any issues with this upgrade, and would also like to know if its safe to run the windows bios update. I know its suposed to be safe but I would like to know if anyone ever reported any issues with it and what precautions should I take... like for example... is it important to remove the bios and hdd passwords?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post :)
    Best regards

    Hi Thanks!
I just got the adrenaline rush of the day by the way....
I've open the zip file with the 1.9 bios and ran setup... it just asked me where to uncompress it that by default is to c:\windows\temp and does not let me change it...
I pressed ok and I was hoping to get a chance to see exacly what it would do.... but to my surprise it just started to backup imediatly the existent bios and uploading the new one without any warning!!!!
This is a realy dangerous pocedure. If I didnt had the power cable connected or if I didnt had closed my programs it would probably run anyway with all the potential problems that this could bring.
I didnt managed to change the bios and HD pasword, because I was hoping to do so after cheking out the procedure and reading the expected readme file with change log and stuff like that... but the good news is that it maintained the passwords.
The VPC issue seems to be solved as well the closing the screen and entering stand by mode.
The wireless network issue seems solved for now but only time will tell. I had an issue that after returning from stand by the wireless network was not working. I rebooted and seems fine now. Ill keep this link with me just in case. Thanks.
Toshiba people... if you are reading this... please fix this issue with the bios setup on windows. I would like to see a warning and the option to start the bios upgrade myself, instead of starting it automatically as soon as setup ends, I would also like to be able to select where to store the files and where to put the backups and finally I would like a warning to close all software, plug the laptop to the power supply and stuff like that.
Also why not provide a change log of some sort? I dont know what this bios fixed. Seems that fixed at least some of my issues... I think... but what else? I cant find anywhere on the website any info regarding what as included on the update
And no I didnt pressed any keys or mouse buttons after or during the install. I was very carefull with that believe me :)
R2D2.. thanks for your help !
    best regards
    Joao

  • MSI Z87-G45 Bios won't update

    Hi,
I am fairly new with DIY PC's and I tried updating my bios to the latest version today. Currently, it is in version 1.5, but the latest is 1.7. I downloaded Live Update 5, considering that it might be the safest way for a newbie to update his motherboard. So I downloaded the update from Live Update 5. I reach into the application and it says to close every program... Ok, done that. Now, when I click next it says in an error message: "Can't load drivers".
I am very confused at what "driver" I could be missing. When I installed windows and everything, I updated my gpu, ethernet and audio drivers. With Live Update 5, prior to updating my bios, I updated my audio and ethernet drivers again (newer versions). I don't really want to use a usb stick to update my bios because if it doesn't work under windows, the result could be even worse if done directly in the BIOS, I guess.
In summary, what could cause this error message "Can't load drivers" to pop up?
    Thank you!

    Get rid of Live Update from your pc. Use the forum's archive and flash method;

  • Fan question with Z87 MPower

I am currently using two Corsair SP120 fans on my Corsair H100i. Both fans have 3-pin connectors, and they are plugged into the 4-pin headers on CPU FAN 1 and CPU FAN 2. I cannot seem to control the fan speed, nor do they seem to be responding to the temperature variations, and they are both blowing around a constant 1600 RPM average. I tried manually adjusting the fans even in the BIOS and the MSI Command Center, but no changes in the speed of the fans.
I suspect that this is because I am using 3-pin fans instead of 4-pins, but I am unsure. Can you confirm my suspicions? BTW Here are my computer specifications.
CPU: Intel i7-4790k (Running at stock 4.0GHZ) (Turbo Boost is Disabled)
    Cooler: Corsair H100i
Motherboard: MSI z87 MPower (Bios v1.10)
    RAM: Corsair XMS 8GB 1600MHZ (9-9-9-24 timings)
    GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 760
    Case: Coolermaster HAF 922
Soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
Power Supply: Antec High Current Pro 750 watt (HCG-750)

You don't necessarily need to use Corsair fans (any brand should work) but to see what fans they do have just check their website. I use Arctic F12 PWM (very quiet) myself tho not with LED.

  • Will MSI Z87 MPOWER Motherboard boot into Bios with Devils Canyon?

    Hey guys !
I decided to take the plunge and update to a Devils Canyon i5 4690k and purchased a MSI Z87 MPOWER motherboard which was on special. I know I need to update the bios for this cpu.
I forgot to check something crucial !
Will i be able to boot into UEFI Bios and update the Bios with this CPU ???? I have only used ASUS Mobo's and they have the bios flashback feature. I'm worried i'll have this great mobo and cpu and not be able to update !!! I don't have a standard haswell cpu to use just to update the bios to support Devils Canyon.
Could someone confirm if it will boot allowing me to update via the MSI Bios flash method.
I still have time to cancel the order if need be.
    Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not quite automatically. It will recognise the CPU but may not properly work or boot. You can try booting into Windows/other OS, but you might need to update BIOS.
Once you have the updated BIOS prepared on the USB stick, you just boot from the USB stick and it will give you some instructions etc to follow, and that's all about updating.
As last resort if it won't let you do it, you can take motherboard to some PC repair center where they have SPI programming tool and they'll update BIOS even without the CPU inside

So I bought a Z87 Mpower max ac back around christmas time, I've been slowly buying parts for it, now with just the cpu to get, so I can't boot it up to check the bios version. I was wondering whether it's possible that my board has the 1.7 update to support haswell refresh (I plan on getting the 4790k) considering the manufacture date for the board was march 2014 and the bios update to support H-R came out late february 2014. I know it's unlikely, but it would make life a lot easier not having to buy a cheap celeron just to update the bios.

S/N can roughly tell BIOS version your board would have. But still you will need older Haswell chip to flash to latest BIOS. You could ask IT services in your area to flash it for you or send it to MSI for flashing. Lastly, you can borrow a CPU from friend.

Okay, so I'll still likely need a cheap celeron to flash a new bios. Besides the month and year, I assume the S/N can't help much more with what version it has?

  • Z87 MPOWER reboots automatically after shutdown with latest BIOS

    Hi!
I was having some problems with the RAM using XMP profile (CORSAIR CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 2*8GB 1866MHz Cl9). Mainly I had some occasional reboots at windows startup and some rare random blue-screens but it all went away after updating the BIOS to version 1.7 .
But now I'm having another issue. After shutting down the PC it turns itself on after 1 second. It only started to happen after the 1.7 update. Any ideas of what it might be?
    Thanks in advance!
    My PC specs:
    CPU: intel core i7 4770k

  • Z87 Mpower SP : BIOS A is dead or can be saved??

    Hi guys,
I accidentally did a failed flashing and caused my board doesn't wanna boot to post but all LEDs, fans on CPU and card are working only blackscreen on monitor and there is no LED show up on Debug LED. I use MSI Z87 Mpower SP with BIOS A (damaged) and BIOS B (working normal).
I already did a recovery way that xmad have said before while I used MSI Z77A-GD80 (dual BIOS) and it was working at that time but now with Z87 Mpower SP (dual BIOS) it won't work, I use MSI HQ Forum USB flasher btw when I did failed flashing I was using M-flash after finished mainboard was turn off it self, then I did CLEAR CMOS ... after that I powered up PC and it turned out to begin flashing ME .
The process with MSI HQ Forum USB flashing Tool is normal but when it is done I do a clear-CMOS and power up PC still debug LED is not showing anything although mainboard is power up (all fans, card, LEDs are on)
So is the BIOS A dead?? Or can be saved?
    Btw I use i5 4430, Gskill ARES 2x4G GBA 2133MHz CL9 1.64v, WD Black 500G SATA3, Corsair HX750 & MSI GTX780 Lightning with windows 7 x64 SP1.
Note : Now I use BIOS V1.6 on BIOS B, before this BIOS A is V1.7 and I wanna tried to downgrade BIOS to V1.5.
One last thing I did flash with 4G USB FD with FAT formatted, is it OK? Next I will try to use FAT32 on my TOSHIBA 16G USB3.0.

You needed special archives to allow fpt flashing, else forum tool won't work.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version

  • Z87-GD65: Live Update 5.0.112 does not display BIOS 1.8 update

As the title says Live Update 5.0.112 does not display BIOS 1.8 update for the Z87-GD65. Yet Live Update 5.0.111 does show the BIOS 1.8 update. Why is this so?

I have to be honest and say I am tearing my hair out trying to update the BIOS on this motherboard. Why is it so convoluted?
    1. I tried the USB boot with FPT. I can't get the FPT and BIOS files to show when I reboot to the bootable USB stick. Apparently the FPT version is used to also flash the "me extension"? (Whatever the hell that is).
    2. I can't use the Live Update because it is unreliable (as claimed by the forum).
    3. I can't use MFLASH because that doesn't work properly and corrupts the BIOS.
    4. Yet another method is to download the "MSI HQ Forum USB Flasher". Which is in a .RAR file no less!
Geez MSI you don't make it easy for the average punter. When I had a Gigabyte motherboard it was a simple Windows flash utility and it worked!
Is there one single easy way to update this BIOS?!

  • Question about Z87 Mpower extreme, gpu/psu stuff

ok hi and hello, ive done a little bit of research, but i need more expert advise.
Buying another psu is out of the question.
so i have MSI Z87 MPOWER LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Extreme OC Flagship High Performance Triple CFX/ SLI Platform Intel Motherboard - tried to link to newegg wouldnt let me.
i wanted to know how many watts does it allow pcie to take, ive got both 8 pin cpu's plugged in aswell.
my PSU is a 750TX Corsair
my problem is i just bought a second 780gtx (cheap), and ive got 1 6 pin and 2 6 pin to 8 pin adapter in my current 780, which leaves me with 1 6 pin left for SLI. Each 780 needs 250 watts. so i can toss the 6 pin in and do a molex to 8 pin for 120 watts, which leaves me at 220 watts if i understand that each pcie lane gives 75 watts. but i keep reading that the 24 pin gives 150 watts to each PCIE lane. so im very confused atm. if each lane gets 150 i should have enough with the adapter and 6 pin. but i dont know what to believe.
also read 750 psu is sufficient for dual 780's.
    other notes.
    4770k 1 click oc'd to 4 ghz
    8gb ram

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_.28standard.29
    Taken from there....
PCIE slot can provide up to 75W.
    8 Pin connector provides 150W.
    6 Pin connector provides 75W.
Thats a total of 300W to a PCIE x16 card, which is the absolute max that a card can draw (safely, according to the standard).
You should be able to connect everything up, and use a 6 pin molex adapter to get both cards setup.
I'm not sure I would do ANY overclocking on the GPU side with this setup. Even on the CPU side I would caution against it, since you're going to be drawing a ton of power when running it full tilt.
But it should work. It looks like the power supply should have the ability to do it.
