Z87 Mpower SP : BIOS A is dead or can be saved??

Hi guys,
I accidentally did a failed flashing and caused my board doesn't wanna boot to post but all LEDs, fans on CPU and card are working only blackscreen on monitor and there is no LED show up on Debug LED. I use MSI Z87 Mpower SP with BIOS A (damaged) and BIOS B (working normal).
I already did a recovery way that xmad have said before while I used MSI Z77A-GD80 (dual BIOS) and it was working at that time but now with Z87 Mpower SP (dual BIOS) it won't work, I use MSI HQ Forum USB flasher btw when I did failed flashing I was using M-flash after finished mainboard was turn off it self, then I did CLEAR CMOS ... after that I powered up PC and it turned out to begin flashing ME .
The process with MSI HQ Forum USB flashing Tool is normal but when it is done I do a clear-CMOS and power up PC still debug LED is not showing anything although mainboard is power up (all fans, card, LEDs are on)
So is the BIOS A dead?? Or can be saved?
Btw I use i5 4430, Gskill ARES 2x4G GBA 2133MHz CL9 1.64v, WD Black 500G SATA3, Corsair HX750 & MSI GTX780 Lightning with windows 7 x64 SP1.
Note : Now I use BIOS V1.6 on BIOS B, before this BIOS A is V1.7 and I wanna tried to downgrade BIOS to V1.5.
One last thing I did flash with 4G USB FD with FAT formatted, is it OK? Next I will try to use FAT32 on my TOSHIBA 16G USB3.0.

You needed special archives to allow fpt flashing, else forum tool won't work.
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version

  • Z87 MPOWER MAX Bios 1.3

    Hello,
I see the Bios 1.3 on download page (updated 2013-8-22), but when I try to download it, it always says that file was not found on the server. Is it supposed to be released already ?
    Thank you

M-Flash in 1.1 is alright as I flashed 1.2 with it when I bought the mobo. But M-Flash in 1.2 and 1.3 is broken, I tested it today like this:
I used the Forum Flash Tool to revert back to 1.1 (I couldnt do that with M-Flash as it always froze no matter what bios version and what option I tried).
Then I formated the USB stick and put 1.2 on it and flashed it via M-Flash completely fine.
Then I formated USB stick again and put 1.3 on it, and attempted to flash it via M-Flash and it froze.
So I used Forum Flash Tool to flash 1.3, and then I tried to flash back 1.2 and 1.1 via M-Flash, and it froze in both cases.
That means that M-Flash in 1.1 is fine, and in 1.2 and 1.3 is broken. They updated the M-Flash in 1.2 according to the change log, and 1.3 uses the same version.
I might add that every flash attempt was done on default bios settings with freshly cleared CMOS and using BIOS + ME option. USB stick was FAT32 and bootable.

  • Z87 Mpower Max - BIOS update???

Sorry for this rant but is going on with the bios update procedure on this board?  Trying to upgrade to the beta bios.
M-Flash from the uefi setup literally freezes the bios when pointed to the file on the USB thumb drive.  Unbelievable!!
Created a usb thumb drive with the MSIHQ "tool" but it doesn't boot!! I guess I'm the tool.
    Am I slow?  Perhaps.
    Any and all advice appreciated.
    Rgds,

If you follow the instructions and you are using >> the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< it works for sure. If stick doesn't boot try "Fix my USB key (Option 4) before starting to prepare the key with the bios.
Tried the "Fix my USB key" option but a bizarre "the system can't find the file specified" and an XVI32 debug window opened.
No idea what to do.  It shouldn't be this difficult.

  • Z87 Mpower Bios A bad, can it be recovered?

I tryed to update my MSI z87 Mpower motherboard bios and it failed because I had an unstable cpu overclock.
So I reset the cpu to stock speeds and was able to update motherboard bios through B.
Can I recover the A bios somehow?

Ok this is weird, B bios version is 7818IMSV1.10, when I cleared cmos yesterday it must have went back to original bios version? I think I need to flash 78181MS.1A0 on B. Which option in bios should I flash ''update bios'' or ''update bios and me''
    Yesterday I flashed A with 78181MS.1A0
    Thanks for sticking with me.

  • MSI Z87 MPower Max Board Not Powering Up

    Hi.
I have recently put together a new HTPC / Gaming system build but am having difficulty getting it to start up. System specs below:
    Board: MSI Z87 MPower Pro
Bios: Stock (Unsure as at work)
    VGA:   On Board
    PSU:   Seasonic X750 KM3
    Intel Core i5-4670S Haswell 3.1GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1150 65W

HDD: None at present but will be MSata SSD
COOLER: Scythe Kozuti Low Profile CPU Cooler SCKZT-1000
    OC: N/A
    OS: Windows 8 64bit
I have read that other people are having simialr issues with previous MPower boards (power for about 0.5 secs) and have followed all of the diagnostics and suggestions that have solved previous issues - To the point where I have removed the Mobo from the case, have only got the 20pin Motherboard connector attached, and 1 stick of RAM (In bay 2) of the board. I have attempted to clear the BIOS via the button on the back of the board as well as the removal of the back up battery. I have flicked between BIOS with no change also.
I am using the on board button for powering up (but the case button when connected has the same effect).
I am running out of ideas - I made doubly sure that all of the components that I purchased were compatible...
    Any ideas??
    Thanks.

  • Will MSI Z87 MPOWER Motherboard boot into Bios with Devils Canyon?

    Hey guys !
I decided to take the plunge and update to a Devils Canyon i5 4690k and purchased a MSI Z87 MPOWER motherboard which was on special. I know I need to update the bios for this cpu.
I forgot to check something crucial !
Will i be able to boot into UEFI Bios and update the Bios with this CPU ???? I have only used ASUS Mobo's and they have the bios flashback feature. I'm worried i'll have this great mobo and cpu and not be able to update !!! I don't have a standard haswell cpu to use just to update the bios to support Devils Canyon.
Could someone confirm if it will boot allowing me to update via the MSI Bios flash method.
I still have time to cancel the order if need be.
    Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not quite automatically. It will recognise the CPU but may not properly work or boot. You can try booting into Windows/other OS, but you might need to update BIOS.
Once you have the updated BIOS prepared on the USB stick, you just boot from the USB stick and it will give you some instructions etc to follow, and that's all about updating.
As last resort if it won't let you do it, you can take motherboard to some PC repair center where they have SPI programming tool and they'll update BIOS even without the CPU inside

  • Z87 MPOWER - BIOS SHOW PROBLEM VER 1.7

    Hello,
I have a motherboard MSI Z87 MPOWER. After the bios update from version 1.5 to version 1.7 It threw me view bios.
After the update I made reset to default. Then I made changes to the settings and there was that incorrectly displayed viewed items.
When I clicked on something and it did not do anything (Nothing is transposed), and when I clicked on an empty space, so I climbed into subcategories. You can count on that, please? The BIOS was unusable. I had to do downgrate to v 1.6
    I apologize for my English

You need to scroll down for the latest bios.
    The latest is .183

  • Z87 MPower max ac Bios version

So I bought a Z87 Mpower max ac back around christmas time, I've been slowly buying parts for it, now with just the cpu to get, so I can't boot it up to check the bios version. I was wondering whether it's possible that my board has the 1.7 update to support haswell refresh (I plan on getting the 4790k) considering the manufacture date for the board was march 2014 and the bios update to support H-R came out late february 2014. I know it's unlikely, but it would make life a lot easier not having to buy a cheap celeron just to update the bios.

Quote from: Nichrome on 07-June-15, 18:34:56
S/N can roughly tell BIOS version your board would have. But still you will need older Haswell chip to flash to latest BIOS. You could ask IT services in your area to flash it for you or send it to MSI for flashing. Lastly, you can borrow a CPU from friend.
    >>How to contact MSI.<< if required
Okay, so I'll still likely need a cheap celeron to flash a new bios. Besides the month and year, I assume the S/N can't help much more with what version it has?

    Hi!
I was having some problems with the RAM using XMP profile (CORSAIR CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 2*8GB 1866MHz Cl9). Mainly I had some occasional reboots at windows startup and some rare random blue-screens but it all went away after updating the BIOS to version 1.7 .
But now I'm having another issue. After shutting down the PC it turns itself on after 1 second. It only started to happen after the 1.7 update. Any ideas of what it might be?

  • MSI Z87 MPower Max - Bad board? Failed SATA and B2 problems????

So here's the thing, been having problems with my system, I have a SSD as the boot drive and a RAID 5 array using the intel controller as a Data drive.   It started infrequently that occassionally the system would lock up with the HDD LED on solid, Then it became progressively more and more frequently while troubleshooting.
I started out thinking it was the RAID array since after it freezes it would reboot do a verification and find some errors, so I disabled the array and tried running the WD lifeguard on each drive, each one passed a full disk scan.  I tried booting the system with 1 or the 3 drives unplugged, still froze so cycled through each drive, froze each time.
Started suspecting the SSD so I cloned the drive onto a mechanical hard drive, still froze.
Unplugged the entire array and just ran the HDD alone..... didn't freeze as frequently but would still freeze.
Swapped out the RAM with good ram... Still froze.
Swapped power supplies with a good supply... Still froze.
Removed all the components except the boot drive, the RAM and the CPU..... stopped freeze up completely, instead I would get microstutters where the system would freeze for .25 to .5 seconds then continue, could tell if you played a audio stream it would keep repeating (Even a buffered stream) did a latency test and interupts were flying like mad and taking a long time to process, with no specific driver or process assigned.
Plugged the RAID array back in and it was working with the microstuttering, while trying to backup data off the array it froze again.
Rebooted the system, bios would die at B2
unplugged the RAID drives, cleared the cmos the system would boot.
Plug back in the raid drives , clear the cmos and it dies at B2.
Took out a hardware RAID controller (LSI 9260) and connected the drives up to that, dies at B2
    unplug the controller... Bios boots
Plug in the controller with no drives attached, dies at B2.
Take the controller out, bios boots.
Sometimes the system gets to A2 and the screen shows snowy static
What is also strange is this occurs on both bios's.... the primary bios which I have flashed to 1.5 and the backup bios which I had left at 1.1 as a fail safe and never flashed.
    Thoughts?

    Hi
Almost same story happened to me.
I have now 2 pieces of Z87 MPOWER boards and both have the same issues.
    1. Board came with BIOS 1.5. I left BIOS B to 1.5 and flashed BIOS A to 1.7 with MFLASH method. I installed W8.1 on my onto my SAMSUNG SSD and the PC was working for 2 or 3 days.
Then I noticed strange behavior while booting. The SSD was not found sometimes. I hit F11 and the list was full of USB pen drive entries. Then I entered the BIOS and I have seen only two menu entries: Security and one more I don't remember. Inside of the menu items it was empty or some chinese letters. So I thought the Bios was currupted. Due to missing MFLASH  menu I couldn't flash the bios via MFLASH, so I had to study the German MSI Forum. Then I prepared the USB pendrive with ABUDE method and I brought back BIOS A alive. Fine, I thought: It can happen but it shouldn't. But the boot problems came back....
    2. The second board came and had BIOS 1.4 installed and I didn't touch board #1 anymore . So I flashed BIOS A again to 1.7 and you know already what's coming up. Totally the same story which I had with board #1.
I switched back to BIOS B and no problems at all with booting.
After a while I noticed some BSODs because of Killer EThernet driver (bwcW8x64.sys). I had so serious problems with that driver. The problem is: If the driver fails, you are even unable to go to the internet and look for a new driver, because your ethernet is dead. Very funny, but not for me. I got the drivers from antother PC and I tried to install them. During installation it was fine. The card was working, but I was forced to do a reboot. After the reboot, the ethernet card was disabled because windows coudn't load the driver. OK, that's a windows issue or a poor driver.  I tried several times. No chance to get ethernet back alive. Finally I disabled the Killer Ethernetboad and plugged my former Intel Gigabit ET Dual Port Sever Adapter in.  I thought, now I get rid of all the problems. Ha ha...
First was everything fine. Then the PC didn't want to boot anymore: BIOS message --> B2.
I hit del key: "Entering setup" message came up. Nothing more. Several times. Dead.
I plugged out the Intel ethernetboard. Bios came up. I put the ethernet board to another PCI slot. 2 days of working. later on, same story.
Then I switched back to BIOS B and no problems at all.
So what's up here with my 2 MPOWER boards, showing the same issues with BIOS 1.7? What I did wrong?
     - MFLASH? May be. But I don't use it anymore. I use the MSIHQ USB Flashing Tool from this forum now which was also spread in the German forum.
     - I never flashed BIOS beta versions, I always red articals how to flash and I think I did nothing wrong here.
     - Overclocking? No. Unfortunatelly I bought an Intel i4770 CPU without K. Funny. So no overclock issues at all.
     - Memory? I have fully equipped 32GB (G.Skill F3-2400C10Q-32GTX) and did the MEM86+ test successfully.
Day before yesterday I flashed BIOS 1.6 to BIOS A. All looks good until now. The intel ethernet board behaves well. No B2 messages.
I will further comment as soon there is anything new.
Do we have some issues with BIOS 1.7? I strongly belief....
I have seen BIOS V1.81 beta is out. But where is V1.8 official release? Anyway, I am tired of testing. If I do not have issues with 1.6 then I will use it.
Unfortunately the MSI Z87 MPOWER board is not yet widely spread. Otherwise we would have more user experiences.
Ok, any comments are highly appreciate it.
@ Corellon: Sometime I got A2 messages with black screen with BIOS V1.7
Which bios version had you installed when you experienced severe problems?
    I guess V1.5 & V1.6 are save. 1.7 has got problems.

  • PCI-e wireless card causes lock ups Z87 MPower MAX

I've already asked this question once, but was part of an epic essay that I've decided to break down into smaller more manageable chunks (as unsurprisingly that one got no replies).
I've got an ASUS PCE-A66 wireless ac pci-e card. Had absolutely no issues with it in my old Z77 board, but I seem to be having a lot of issues with it in my new Z87 MPower MAX. System was locking up like mad when I was trying to install the drivers at first. Had to rip out the WiFi/Bluetooth/WiDi module to get the drivers installed but the system randomly hangs on boot up? Don't get the issues with the card unplugged and don't always get it with it plugged in, but there seems to be some form of conflict with it that I can't resolve. Has anyone else had any such issues with any PCI-e add in cards on this motherboard?
    Specs are:
    i7 4770k
MSI MPower MAX using .128 bios (will try the .131 later)
    2x4GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400
    Coolermaster Silent Pro Hybrid 1050w
EVGA NVidia GTX 780 SC ACX
    Windows 8 Pro 64bit

Yes, old system was Win8 Pro 64 bit too and the drivers are Windows 8 certified. As I say though, I had no issues with it on the old build? Even got a replacement sent out by Amazon in case the card itself was damaged  Did initially try to do a warm update of the hardware into the same OS installation but didn't play well so did a full re-install in the end. Tried standard and UEFI installs (just in case) and after a problem with my OCZ Vector 2 not being recognised I bought a new Samsung 840 Pro so was a virgin SSD installed on to as well.
I'll raise it directly with MSI but just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced anything similar with any wireless cards in this mobo.
    Cheers for the reply though

  • Z87 Mpower Max Wifi Problem

    Hey!
So I recently built this new PC:
CPU: I7 4770k || GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming 4GB || Mobo: MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX || RAM: Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 2x 8GB || SSD: Samsung 840 PRO Series 256GB || Chassi: Cooler Master HAF XM Midi Tower || CPU-cooler: Noctua NH-D14 || PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 720W || OS: Windows 7 Ultimate || HDD: WD Desktop Green 2 TB | SAMSUNG SpinPoint 160 GB | HITACHI 250 GB
I'm happy with everything except the Wifi connection... I've been googling and searching on forums without any help so now I'm hoping someone know how to fix this problem...
I got a low connection to the router and it's terribly slow (the router is a WNR2000v2 but I've never had problems with it earlier and I get the same result with other routers). Basically, I get about 20Mbit/s with cable and the wifi from my laptop (HP ProBook 6560b with "Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n ") and the laptop can stand right next to my desktop PC and get 5/5 in connection vs MSI Mpower Max Wifi (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230) which only get 3/5 in the same distance. I've tried all kinds of placements for the antennas without and improvement. BUT, my problem is that instead of getting 20Mbit/s I only get up to 5Mbit/s. Now... I run the latest drivers from MSI's Mpower Max webpage and I run the latest BIOS (Version E7815IMS V1.3), but I cannot find a solution.
    Thanks in advance...
    Sincerely,
    Dexter
    (Excuse my poor English)

I think you should go through some Windows settings. Also try to configure router (this might be the problem).
