Z97 G45 - charge USB while off?

just built this thing and was surprised it did not charge my wireless USB mouse when my pc was off overnight.  Maybe I was spoiled by my last board. but I would have assumed this is a pretty standard feature
I keep searching and finding the super charger stuff to charge an iPad, but nothing references if this works while turned off and if so which USB jumper I have to use to get charging while off / in standby on the z97 g45 board.

I started a support ticket about this issue and heard back

Unfortunately the USB will not provide power while the system is off, there is no bios setting unfortunately to allow for this. So far as I can see it is a limitation of the board.
So that's a bummer.  Guess I'm gonna have to get a powered usb hub.

  • Charging while off

I just got the 13.3 macbook pro, and was curious if I can charge it while being off? I currently do not see a light on the charger when the computer is off. Does the computer have to be on to charge?
    Thanks!

If you imported your music into iTunes, iTunes has arranged it in the database structure that it requires. If you don't want iTunes to manage your music, don't import it into iTunes, because you don't have any control over the way iTunes organizes its files.
Actually, the steps to achieve it are:
    1. Before you import ANYTHING, open iTunes and deselect the preferences W.M. posted about above me.
    2. Then you can store your music anywhere and in any way you like, and iTunes will leave it alone and simply reference it without actually importing anything.
    So basically I'd start over.
    1. Make sure your originals still exist on the other computer, then delete the folders you transferred
    2. Set the iTunes prefs to not mess with your music
    3. Drag the music folders in from the other computer again
    4. Drag the folders over the iTunes icon; since you changed the prefs they will no longer be altered

  • Any new BIOS for Z97 G45 Gaming ? USB issue

I have a MSI Z97 G45 Gaming with latest BIOS 2.40 but since I've bought this mobo there is a problem with USB ports under MS Windows 7/8.1 and latest Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9860. The problem is with gaming keyboard Saitek Cyborg. This keyboard working only when is connected to the front USB panel (right side). Rear USB ports (even 3.0) and left front USB port are not recognizing this keyboard. Under Linux, BIOS and DOS everything is ok.
    Please fix it.
    Thank you.

Does the LED lights on when you plug in? What does it show under device manager? Did you install the keyboard driver??? where does the front USB panel connect to this mobo?

my iPad 1 won't hold a charge for very long and will only fully charge when turned off while plugged in. Will a full reset fix this?

    maybe but
    most likely no
if you have many apps running and using data and localization at the same time yes maybe
but batteries get worse and worse and worse over time until they die a software reset will not change that

  • My brand-new iPod touch (5th Gen) battery takes a very long time to fully charge, even while not in use. Why is this and what should I do?

Just recently bought a brand-new iPod touch, 5th generation. To be exact, got it two days ago, this past Saturday, on 12/13/2014. Initially, when I first turned it on, it had a fully charge and I didn't need to charge it. I also didn't see anything in the very small and limited start-up guide you receive with it to charge it for a certain amount of time before use, or to use it until the battery dies, then charge all the way, like a lot of electronic devices have you do when you first purchase them.
So I was assuming I didn't need to do anything like that. First question, should I have charged it for a period of time before use? Should I have used it until the battery died, then plugged it in and charged it fully before use? Or is none of this necessary initially and iPod batteries are good to go from the start?
Please excuse me if this is an obvious question, as this is my first ever iPod. Anyways, like I said, nothing in the "instructions" said anything about that, so I didn't do it, I just used it until it got below 20% battery left, then I plugged it in.
Now for the battery itself, it takes literally a day or so to fully charge, even while not in use. Even if I use it for a while, turn off the iPod to make sure it shuts off all background data and apps, and then plug it in to charge, it still charges extremely slowly. I've never seen a device take this long to charge. As for the battery life itself, I'd say at full charge it lasts about 4-5 hrs, maybe 6, and then I have to charge it again. Meanwhile it takes around 24 hours, without me using it, to fully charge. If I use it while its charging, the battery decreases faster than it charges, and eventually I'll get the typical "20% battery remaining" message pop up.
I know it is charging, as the lightning symbol is next to the battery symbol. Specifically, right now, I plugged it in about 1 hr 30 minutes ago, and it has barely gone up. Also, whenever I press the home button to check the battery, I can see it jump down from about 50% to somewhere around 25%-30%. What is that about?
This is really frustrating, and I'm seriously contemplating either taking it back and trying my luck with a different iPod, or just taking it back and getting my money back. Any help and clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I'll answer any questions I can to shed more light on this.

It will take longer to charge the 5G's battery than either the 3G or 4G's battery.

    Hi there 8472kck!
I have some information for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. That information can be found right here:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming updating UEFI BIOS stuck at 18% (using MFlash)

    System:
Z97-G45 Gaming Motherboard (upgrading from BIOS 2.5 to 2.6)
    Intel 4790K
    2x 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaw X 1600MHz
    Gigabyte GTX 970 G1
    Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD
    Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
I downloaded the newest BIOS from the Z97-G45 page on MSI's website, unzipped the files, and put them on a FAT32 fromatted 2GB flash drive. I then rebooted the computer into BIOS. I used the MFlash utility to select the file and flash the update. The update progressed fine at first, but has been stuck at 18% complete for an hour now.
What courses of actions can I take at this point? I avoided flashing the BIOS in Windows because I read that it could fail, but it doesn't seem like the method I chose was any more successful.
    UPDATE:
I cleared CMOS and rebooted and it loaded BIOS and Windows fine. It is still running the old version of the BIOS, so I suppose it never really started flashing the new version.

    Hi,
Try again with single RAM stick with 1333MHz frequency, without graphics card and SSD/HDD. If still gets stuck at some point leave it for another 1 hour, and if doesn't proceed then turn off and clear CMOS. Then either:
-Try different BIOS file, making sure to follow the instructions right
->>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
    or
-Contact MSI about it >>How to contact MSI.<<
May I ask why are you trying to update? Reason "I want to have latest" is no reason and is not worth taking the risk of updating the BIOS.

  • IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • MSI Z97 G45 Ethernet random disconnections

    Hi,
Roughly 2 weeks ago, a built a new PC for myself, and I have had Ethernet issues ever since. The build in itself is pretty standard, and I use an MSI Z97 G45 motherboard to support the thing.
My problem is that I get disconnected randomly while I'm using the Internet (and maybe when I'm not, but I haven't noticed it). I haven't seen any pattern that could explain the problem, I'm not heavily using the network (at most a Mumble connection + EVE Online for instance), and it has happened when I was only browsing the Internet.
I have tried uninstalling the driver and installing the latest one, or the same but with the "driver only" option, and it still happens.
I must say it is quite frustrating, so i anyone happens to have any options. I have read that it could come from the Killer Network suite but I have uninstalled it and the Qualcomm thing does not appear in my installed programs anymore, so there's that.
    Thanks for your time

I'm using a PLC going straight to the wall, and out the wall to my router. I have used several computer on this connection and I have never had a single issue.
You are right about your second point, I'm only assuming it, but the indicator on the PLC stays green even when the connection disappears and rebooting the computer solves the problem every time, so I figured it comes from the machine itself

  • Battery discharges while OFF

I am a new Apple user. I've been a programmer on windows for more than 8 years, and I am really happy for switching over to macs.
3 weeks ago i bought a PB G4 768 RAM, combo and updated the mac os to 10.4.3 immediately. The problem I encountered is the following. I charge the battery to 100%.
I disconnect the charger. I shut it off. After about 10-15 hours, i turn on the computer, to find that its up to 90%. It lost 10% in about 15 hours. I discharge completely the battery, charge it again, check the battery lights (on the battery, and they show the battery is full, i disconnect the charger, turn it off. in 3 days i turn it back on to find that its down to 40%.
(bare with me here) I charge the battery, (again), i take it off the laptop. In three days i plug it back and it shows 99% (it didnt lose basically any charge)
my question... WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? My laptop while its off consumes so much battery?
I tried the PMU reset, PRAM etc. ITs a pleasure to use the PB but these issues make me think twice about my purchase.

Hi, lordanis, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Since your new Powerbook is Aluminum, not Titanium, I suggest reposting your question in the 15" Aluminum PB Power and Battery discussion area, where others who have similar hardware will see it. You might also consider calling AppleCare under your warranty coverage and see what they say about your battery. Your experience certainly doesn't sound normal to me, and doesn't match mine with any of the several Powerbooks I've owned. Good luck.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming ISSUES..

    Hi all..
I have the Z97-G45 Gaming board in my pc.. recently installed it.
I am trying to install windows 7 and having a nightmare with it.
The OS seems to install ok, when it comes to reboot to finish the installation I will get a BSOD
If then i reset it again it may boot up ok and get onto the desktop.
If I then shutdown the PC.. on next boot I get the EFI shell inferface and the SSD drive that I am installing to has dissappeared from the BIOS and I cant select it to boot from at all.
If I then turn off and on again, the SSD drive may re appear, system will boot. Then again, if turned off and on again the SSD drive seems to dissappear and I get the EFI shell again.
I have changed my SSD.. same problems happen.. I am on my 2nd motherboard now... same thing happening..
I have tried a new PSU.. same issues.. changed RAM and GPU same issues..
Flahed latest BIOS when I got windows to load but still same issues
Its driving me INSANE.. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me?
    Thanks, Dan

As signature with AMD system obviously doesn't match the system in question follow >>Posting Guide<< and add specs.

  • Does my ipod touch charge when turned off!

Hi guys i got my 16g ipod touch in the uk after work tonight. A quick question, when connected to the computer does it continue to charge when i turn the power off on the touch? As nothing indicates on the screen that it is charging and it also disappears from itunes. cheers

Yeah I was wondering the same thing since my ipod for some reasons seems to charge really slowly. I'm about to burn my one support call and might end up sending it back as a defect. I've charged it while using my computer (so obviously it wasn't asleep), and it would creep up very slowly. Then I let it charge overnight on my laptop (8 hours) and it would go like 25% from about 25% battery. I tried recharging it from my iHome ipod dock and it would charge a bit faster, then sort of cap off at about 66-75% battery. I've tried turning sticking it i the iHome and turning it off and seemed to have no effect on the battery. I'm going to try it again tonight having it turned off while attached to my laptop. It will be my last attempt before calling Apple. I am really frustrated.
