Z97-G45 Motherboard Power Issues

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Z97-G45 motherboard where the PC will not power on (via the power button) after I have turned off the PC (by any method) I only have two ways to get the PC to power back on, one is to hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds, release and then press it again. The second method is to unplug the power cable directly from the PSU and then plug it back in. Both of these methods work every time.
This was not a problem when I first built the machine (2 weeks ago) so I believe it may have something to do with the lastest BIOS version which has updated via MSI Live Update.
PC Info:
Z97-G45
i7 4790K
Corsair H100i
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 2133 (quad)
Corsair AX750 PSU
MSI GTX 980
Crucial MX100 256GB SSD
Any help would be appreciated.
Additional info:
This problem will continue even if I leave the PC off for days with the power cable still in.
Restarts work perfectly fine,
I have tried:
Full BIOS reset
Starting with only 1 stick of RAM
Re-flashing the BIOS with an older BIOS
Re-flashing the BIOS with the newest BIOS

sorry, then do clear cmos, follow this guide: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
I reset the BIOS as per the guide making sure that the date was reset and sadly it has made no difference to the problem.

  • MSI Z97 G45 Motherboard (CPU / RAM PROBLEM)

    Hey guys! I recently built my first PC and need some help! I'll list my setup before elaborating.
    Case = NZXT H440 Black/Red
    MOBO = MSI Z97 G45
    CPU = i7 4790k
    RAM = TridentX 2400 (16GB)
    PSU = Corsair AX 760 Platinum
    GPU = MSI GTX 970
    SSD = Samsung Pro 850
    Okay so basically after I finished the build and fired it up everything worked GREAT! But, I realized the DRAM was only running at 1333 mhz by default. I did a little research and read that you're suppose to enable XMP Profile 1 on this MSI MOBO in order to achieve the 2400 mhz this memory offers - so that's what I did! However, this caused the CPU to overheat! Apparently XMP overclocks the CPU as well? Bad! I'm on stock cooling. It took me forever to figure out that it was the XMP that was causing the overheating too.
    How can I achieve 2400 mhz WITHOUT overclocking the CPU and frying my PC? Why do I have to overclock at all? The ram is sold as 2400 and suppose to be compatible with my motherboard, processor, etc.
    Please help!

    Memory speed is down to how your computers CPU's Memory controller handles the higher frequancy and if the CPU sees that the IMC is suddenly loosing a hold it will boost up the Voltage on the IMC (More voltage = More Heat) its a total shot in the dark that any CPU can use above its listed memory speed without needing more voltage to be stable!
    your CPU's IMC will be overtaxed by running at 2400 so the voltage is increased to use that as the speed is at 150% what the IMC was rated at (1333/1600Mhz)
    for your 4790k
    Memory Specifications
    Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type)    32 GB
    Memory Types    DDR3 1333/1600
    Max # of Memory Channels    2
    Max Memory Bandwidth    25.6 GB/s
    ECC Memory Supported ‡ No
    if i was you its always a good idea to get a aftermarket cooler as the intel stock ones are very poor and are just barely enougth so the best thing to do is get a better one (e.g. a Coolermaster Hyper 212) that has a higher cooling capacity for not that much money!
    that ram is putting 150% its design load on the IMC so it will be generating more heat then it was meant for so you need better cooling if your running those high OC memory sticks!
    So what happens if I turn up the frequency to 2400 mhz without using the XMP profiles? Will the CPU still overclock? I know the memory needs more voltage at higher frequency, but what about CPU? Sorry I'm new to all this it's a lot to take in.

  • Z97-g45 communication audio issue

    I upgraded my motherboard to the z97-g45 but now when I'm on teamspeak if someone talks on it, it lowers the sound of whatever I'm doing, on youtube or in a game.
    I've looked through the sound options on windows and it's set to 'do nothing'
    I believe it to be one of the drivers installed with the disk, but I've looked through those and cannot find a solution, can anyone help?

    I have, I cannot find anything wrong. Plus the options on teamspeak have not changed since upgrading the motherboard. >_<
    How did you upgrade, just transferred the OS hard drive?
    What motherboard was it on before?

  • MSI Z97 G45 Ethernet random disconnections

    Hi,
    Roughly 2 weeks ago, a built a new PC for myself, and I have had Ethernet issues ever since. The build in itself is pretty standard, and I use an MSI Z97 G45 motherboard to support the thing.
    My problem is that I get disconnected randomly while I'm using the Internet (and maybe when I'm not, but I haven't noticed it). I haven't seen any pattern that could explain the problem, I'm not heavily using the network (at most a Mumble connection + EVE Online for instance), and it has happened when I was only browsing the Internet.
    I have tried uninstalling the driver and installing the latest one, or the same but with the "driver only" option, and it still happens.
    I must say it is quite frustrating, so i anyone happens to have any options. I have read that it could come from the Killer Network suite but I have uninstalled it and the Qualcomm thing does not appear in my installed programs anymore, so there's that.
    Thanks for your time

    I'm using a PLC going straight to the wall, and out the wall to my router. I have used several computer on this connection and I have never had a single issue.
    You are right about your second point, I'm only assuming it, but the indicator on the PLC stays green even when the connection disappears and rebooting the computer solves the problem every time, so I figured it comes from the machine itself

  • Z97-G45 slow boots

    Hello, I recently purchased the MSI Z97-G45 motherboard and my major complaint is that it takes around 3-5 minutes to get to the windows boot logo. It always stalls when it says A3 at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Is there anyway to fix this problem? Thank you for your time

  • Z97-G45 imperfection

    I recently bought a z97-g45 motherboard. However, the CPU socket has a metal bit that is slightly out of line with the rest. I cannot get the photo to attach, so here is an imgur link: /XceSQjk.jpg. It is difficult to see due to picture quality, however if you look seven places right and two up from the bottom leftmost metal bit you should be able to see that one of them is darker than the others.
    My question is: should this be fine? As this is my first build, will this cause any problems or ruin my CPU? What course of action would you guys advise? Thanks.

    Thanks for the replies! I appreciate the suggestion badboy2k, however I'd be worried about fixing the problem myself incase I end up making the situation worse like breaking the pin or pushing more of them out of line. In regards to the RMA, Nichrome, what exactly is the procedure? As it is midnight here I will sleep on it before I make any decision. Thanks both.

  • Z97-G45 7.1 audio not working

    I have the Z97-G45 motherboard with the Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headphones. When I plug in all 4 3.5mm headphone jacks (5 if you count the mic input, which I'm not using) into the corresponding outputs on the motherboard, the 7.1 audio does not work no matter what settings I change in Realtek HD Audio Manager or Sound Blaster Cinema. Even when I turn on the 7.1, if I play some music and unplug one of the outputs, like the center/sub, rear etc, the audio for those specific drivers does not cut out. If I unplug all the cables except the Line Out, the audio still sounds the same; then when the Line Out gets unplugged, then all the audio is gone. This tells me that it's not outputting the audio through all 4 3.5mm outputs. Do I have to enable something differently/did I do something wrong? I've been at this for two days, some help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    I think you can try uninstall the SBC. When you plug them in, does realtek detect them and pop out the selecting window? I just did a search on the web, this headset can be switched between 2.0 and 7.1, are you sure you set them up correctly? Also try in the playback settings--configure--7.1 test, which ones have no sound?
    When I do the 7.1 test, I hear all the speakers correctly and how they are suppose to sound. But when I start listening to music or playing a game, the sound is not how it used to be when I used the same headset on my old motherboard. I have tweaked every setting I could in Realtek and SBC and I could not get the audio to sound correct no matter what the game or music, even games that support 7.1 sound are not correct. I have no clue what is making the sound messed up.

  • New z97 G45 Gaming board with big issues

    Hi guys,
    Don't know if I am posting in the wrong spot but I recently bought a new CPU and to go with it I purchased a z97 G45 Gaming board however I'm currently having issues. Before I talk about the issues I'll just state my build:
    CPU: i5-4690k
    MB: z97 G45 Gaming
    GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770
    After market cooler: Noctua NH-DH14
    PSU: Silverstone Strider Gold 850W ST85F-GS
    Ram: 8GBx2 Kingston Hyperx Blu 1600
    Case: Aerocool X-Predator Case - Black/Orange
    So the issue is when I press the power button everything turns on like it should except any fans connected to the motherboard will not work. Everything plugged into the fan controller that comes with the case works fine. However the weird thing is when the computer is about to turn off the fans connected the motherboard will start working for a few seconds and then go off with everything else.
    Another large problem is that no video is being outputted from the GPU or on board graphics. I know the GPU is at least getting power since the fans are spinning on it. Also the fans connected to the CPU are working fine since they'll actually power.
    I'm pretty sure I've done everything right. I installed all the brass mounts correctly and the cooler is in the right spot. I've tried taking out the CMOS battery and waiting a few minutes. I've also tried removing the GPU and ram to try and even get beeps, still no luck. I can't really think of anything else to do so I came here hoping any of you might be able to help.
    Thanks for reading this,
    Dyltom.

    No beeps with no RAM installed is not a good indication of system health, neither is it not getting graphics when using the onboard. Recommend to remove the system from the case and attempt to run it in a 'barebones' configuration on a piece of plain cardboard or untreated wood.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming ISSUES..

    Hi all..
    I have the Z97-G45 Gaming board in my pc.. recently installed it.
    I am trying to install windows 7 and having a nightmare with it.
    The OS seems to install ok, when it comes to reboot to finish the installation I will get a BSOD
    If then i reset it again it may boot up ok and get onto the desktop.
    If I then shutdown the PC.. on next boot I get the EFI shell inferface and the SSD drive that I am installing to has dissappeared from the BIOS and I cant select it to boot from at all.
    If I then turn off and on again, the SSD drive may re appear, system will boot. Then again, if turned off and on again the SSD drive seems to dissappear and I get the EFI shell again.
    I have changed my SSD.. same problems happen.. I am on my 2nd motherboard now... same thing happening..
    I have tried a new PSU.. same issues.. changed RAM and GPU same issues..
    Flahed latest BIOS when I got windows to load but still same issues
    Its driving me INSANE.. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me?
    Thanks, Dan

    As signature with AMD system obviously doesn't match the system in question follow >>Posting Guide<< and add specs.

  • MSI Z97-G45 Sound Issue

    I bought a MSI Z97-G45 two weeks ago, everything is working fine except for the sound. The problem is when I plug my 3.5mm jack into the motherboard it does give sound, but a very low volume. When you turn the volume up it starts making a crackling noise. I have to turn my speakers up all the way to the maximum (normally this would blow them up). The windows volume slider is on maximum so that isn't the issue.
    When I plug my speakers in the front of the case everything is working as normal, it's only when I plug them into the back of the motherboard.
    I've updated the drivers and even unplugged all my USB devices to see if the problem went away.
    Any advice on what this could be?
