Z97 Gaming 5 Sumbus driver and Killer Nic Driver?

After having installed my Msi MB Z97 in the device manager their is the "Smbus" not having a driver. Now I know that usually intels inf drivers come into play here. But after installing them its still in the unknown device category. I went to MSI's website and the inf drivers on their are the same as intel's site. Is this just a case of the drivers aren't out yet or am I missing something. Also is their just a driver for the Killer Nic without all the software that it installs? Just a basic driver for internet...
Thanks

  • Z97 GAMING 9 AC - PCIE and the wi-fi module no longer detecting

    Hi,
I 'm Overclocking enthusiast and recently decided to take to my hometown in Brazil using a platform products from MSI, to make disclosure of benchmark tests in social networks and in gaming blogs.
So i purchased a new system including the MSI Z97 GAMING 9 AC motherboard and MSI Gaming N770 TF 4GD5/OC GeForce GTX 770 4GB graphics card. After building the system I initially had problems with the graphics card not being detected and the wi-fi module (that hard to fit in the mobo) don't even appear in device manager. I already tried to dismount and remount the module on the motherboard with extreme care, no success. After some research I updated the bios to 1.5 and used the onboard graphics card to install windows 8.1, drivers etc. After windows, drivers etc were installed the graphics card and the wi-fi module still would not detect.
I have tried another graphics card in this system and it does not seem to work either. In bios it just always says that the PCIE slots are 'empty'.
So I have tried the following:
    1. Cleared CMOS.
    2. Updated BIOS.
    3. Updated Chipset, drivers etc.
    4. Tested the Graphics Card in other computers.
    5. Used a different graphics card in this system.
    6. Tried PCIE 2.0, 3.0 and auto.
    7. Completely reformated and started from scratch.
So after many attempts I am disappointed with MSI and need some solution to my problem, since I saw that several customers who have purchased from MSI are the same product with exactly the same problem which possibly conclude that MSI has a duty to resolve these cases.

I have the exact same problem with my gaming 9 AC only the PCIe slot for gfx card worked initially. MSI support sent me a new WiFi adapter, it also didnt work. When I installed it, the PCIe slot would not identify my graphics card anymore. MSI support then advised me to return the board to the reseller, where it is now - they are checking it for defects before they do anything.
Ill keep you updated how they proceed from here. If there are any more problems I will just ask my reseller to downgrade me to a gaming 7, I can add a pcie wifi card on my own, and avoid the hassle.

  • Z97 Gaming 3 chipset driver issue. Any ideas?

    Hey peeps!:)
I got the Z97 Gaming 3 mobo. Installed every driver from MSI's website.
But when I look up at the device manager the system devices... the:
    -Intel(R) Z97 Chipset LPC Controller - 8CC4
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 8C90
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 8C94
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SMBus Host Controller - 8CA2
    - Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor DRAM Controller - 0C00
Are still uses the Microsoft version driver from the date 2006.06.21, driver verion : 6.3.9600.17031
I installed the chipset several times, restarted the PC. No help at all. Tried to manually install the
driver, and browse the driver from hard drive. When it finishes, its says:
"The best driver for your device is already installed"
Anyone with the same problem? Any ideas guys?:S

its happen to everyone who own z97 or any 9 series chipset. after installing "latest chipset driver" either downloaded from msi or from intel website, device manager still shows that drivers is taken from microsoft and dated 2006.
until intel fixed their crap drivers, nothing that we can do.

  • Every boot i have to select my boot-drive in BIOS. (Z97 Gaming 5).

    Hi there,
Z97 Gaming 5 Boot Drive issue.
It appears with 80% of boots i am forced to enter BIOS and point it towards my SSD boot-drive. Sometimes the SSD boot drive doesn't even show up and i am forced to constantly reset/power down until it shows up in BIOS. I am running the shipped BIOS and wondered if anyone has rectified this issue without being forced to flash? After reading about people bricking their Z97's and/or flashing to no avail i wasn't too keen on the idea.
    Any support is appreciated, thanks.

Thank you all for your replies. Thanks Svet.
@ flobelix, my OCZ is also a Vertex 2. Well thats fantastic... OS and everything installed on this drive. Curious as to how they cannot be compatible? And why it runs flawlessly once I'm in Windows?
Thanks to this new information Flobelix i came across this thread on Google (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1865874/ocz-vertex-ssd-recognized-boot-uefi-clock-resets-z87x-d3h-4770.html). Seems a workaround is (if this mobo has one, i need to check) to plug the SSD into an alternative SATA3 controller port (not the Intel SATA ports). Otherwise we're pretty much sh*t out of luck. Which is pretty terrible IMO. Glad mine is only a 120GB.

  • E2200 Killer NIC freezes my pc

I have MSI Gaming 5 motherboard with E2200 Killer NIC which constantly freezes (no bsod) my pc. I can replicate this issue every time i start pc and play youtube video in firefox browser. • Z97 GAMING 9 AC - PCIE no longer detecting

    Hi,
So I recently purchased a new system including the MSI Z97 GAMING 9 AC motherboard and MSI R9 280X GAMING G3 graphics card. After building the system I initially had problems with the graphics card not being detected. After some research I updated the bios to 1.4 and used the onboard graphics card to install windows 8.1, drivers etc. After windows, drivers etc were installed the graphics card still would not detect until I went into the bios and changed the PCIE to 2.0 (instead of auto). This then used the 280x instead of onboard and allowed me to install the graphics card drivers. I switched the PCIE to 3.0 after it was working.
Initially everything was working but the next morning I had the same issue again: only the onboard graphics card was being used. I switched back to PCIE 2.0 and it worked again. Until the next morning: the 280x is no longer being detected at all in any PCIE slots or in PCIE auto, 2.0 or 3.0. I have ruled out a graphics card issue as the 280x works in other pcs.
Any suggestions as to why the PCIE slots seem to have stopped detecting?

Was this issue ever solved as im seeing the same issue.
When I first booted the machine all was well however when I came to reboot my machine for the first time it no longer sees I have a GPU and so switched to the Intel onboard 4600.
At first I assumed the GPU had come lose or some BIOS setting needed changing. BIOS is set to use PEG (PCI-E Graphics card device) so i reseated the card and rebooted. This didn't work.
I reset the BIOS CMOS and that fixed the issue, my machine booted using the graphics card again however as soon I rebooted windows again it lost the card switching back to the onboard.
According to the BIOS the PCI-E slot is empty. I swapped the card out for an older ATI 7870 but had the same problem. PCI-E slot is empty unless I clear the CMOS (I made no changes in the BIOS).
At this point it sounds like some kind of software issue I have updated my BIOS to the latest version (1.5) but that hasn't fixed the issue. Whenever I shutdown or restart it will lose sight of my card unless I clear the CMOS or power down at the wall.

  • Graphics Card not Recognised on Z97 Gaming 9 AC

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have a Z97 Gaming 9 AC Motherboard and a Zotac GTX970 Graphics card.
All 3 PCIe slots are showing as empty in the Bios. I have to use the onboard HDMI to get into Windows 7.
I've tried updating the Bios to the BETA version from this forum using the flasher tool but it hasn't helped.
The fans on the card are spinning so I think it has power. It has two 6 pin power cables coming from my Corsair 750 psu. I've tried different cables and different sockets on the psu.
I've read through this forum for over two days before posting here.
    Please help me!

Well yeah, you would have to have VERY bad luck in order to get both cards broken.
Get your friend test your cards and we'll see what can be done.
Did you try switching BIOS A to B? Might be BIOS A corrupted (if I remember it right, this board has dual BIOS?)
My last thought: if cards work fine in friend's PC, take your CPU out and look for bent pins in the socket. Also look around the motherboard for any damage signs or similar (colour differences etc).

  • Just purchased Z97 Gaming 7 and was wondering about Compatibility with RAM

    Hello there,
Just purchased the Z97 Gaming 7 MB and was wondering if it is compatible with the following RAM -
    Kingston HyperX 16 GB 1600 Mhz CL9 DDR3 HyperX Beast Desktop Memory Kit (2 x 8GB) - Intel XMP
    G.Skill 16GB Ripjaws X Dual Channel Memory Kit - Blue (2x 8GB, DDR3 1600MHz,1.5v, F3-1600C9D-16GXM, XMP Ready)
Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black
Regarding the Kingston, the model number specified in the MSI compatibility list of this board is very similar to the ram I've listed.
Thanks in advance and feel free to share your opinion on the rams or if you recommend anything else.
    Thanks

It's too late for that.    OP inquired about Z97, this has taken a turn to a Z87 and a debate.
Seems you have a bit to learn about RAM speed and actual performance achieved. Over 1866 doesn't show much gain. Higher the speed the more you have to 'loosen' the timings, :: rest of quote snipped ::
Yes, I probably could learn a thing or two about memory I suppose.  I don't claim to be an expert on this subject.  But, I've built several systems (always with Asus boards...) for 15 years or so for myself, family, and friends.  I have a BS in computer science and masters in Electrical Engineering working in the SCADA/Control Systems field (look it up) so I do know a thing or two.  I've never had a problem till now, my first MSI board.
I'm not sure how responding to a thread, hoping a user’s experience with memory would benefit me, is "hijacking" a thread but call it what you will.  I don't recall too much of a debate except from you and the forum memory expert (not the GSKill guy, the other guy...) so back off.  Funny how MSI's recommended memory list(s) prominently mention GSKill as being compatible multiple times with my exact memory, the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH, being listed as well.  Yet, GSKill is up to something funny with their timings which benefit only Asus or whatever while causing problems on everyone else motherboards.
For future reference, I'm not claiming anything in particular (such as memory) is causing my system to crash.  I saw the forum sticky about GSKill memory and this thread which mentions GSkill.  Since I'm using GSkill, which I have for multiple system builds without issues in the past, I began to wonder about something.  After all, things do happen.  Perhaps I simply got some bad sticks or something.  It does happen regardless of brand/vendor.
For the record, I suspect the stupid Killer NIC, its driver, and/or system tray panel are to blame for my issue(s).  The more I think about this NIC, the more I hate it.  Give a boost to a specific app/game for better performance.  That's marketing BS.  All it does is give a specific app/game priority by purposely dropping performance of all the other apps so the designated process looks better relative to the other programs on the same system.  I call that false advertising and potentially something worse.
Time will ultimately tell where my issue is.
MSI may have lost a customer...
The best of everything to everyone here and enjoy the rest of the day,
    Chris

When the ISP connection goes down and return, sometimes, the network card is bugged.
Sometimes, using the Windows troubleshoting solves the problem.
    Symptoms of BUG
The router not respond the network card Killer e2200, and does not respond to any package.
If any audio is played during the bug, it is accompanied by the noise "pop-pop-pop-pop" that keeps repeating, at a rate of 2 Hz.
    Example(Wireshark images)
bugged - call Router and unresponsive
Normal - Call Router and Router respond
The only computer in my network, having problems with Router is Z97-GD65 GAMING.
The other 5 computers tested, and even smartphones NEVER had any problem with the router.
    workaround
    Reboot PC.
Before display the logo of Win7, the router recognizes the network Killer e2200.
    Solution attempts
    1) Update Bios
    2) Uninstall and reinstall Killer e2200 drivers
    3) Already changed the place of computers in the router output, and only MSI motherboard show this problem.
    Conclusion
The Z97-GD65 GAMING, for every connection fall of ISP,  the user needs to restart for the internet back up and running.
I was forced to restart 3 or 4 times per day, while the entire network operates normally.
The problem is occurring from the first day that I am using the Motherboard, and  delay this time to do all the tests to determine exactly what was happening.

    listed above sounds correct
you need to boot from a bootable device who contain your OS installation disk to proceed with OS install.
    about your Video card
when you install it, in which slot is placed?
and have you connected your display to it after that? [not to onboard GPU]
and have you attached all power cables for it?

  • MSI and Qualcomm should be enbarrased for their Killer NIC

All I can say is what a POS the Killer/Qualcomm NIC is.  I tried everything listed in the forum here and performance of the NIC is horrendous.  Surfing the net is fine, but it constantly loses connection to my server and other workstations on the network.
I disable it the NIC, but in an Intel NIC and have NO issues what's so every.
MSI - Dump the Killer NIC and just stay with Intel.  The whole idea of a NIC helping with Gaming is BS anyway.

Similar or 'exact' error? Rather than possibly confuse things in this thread, recommend to start your own so the problem can be addressed specifically concerning your error, system, and components.
Wait! Hold the phone! You 'do' have a thread started!

Hmm true, I can see how using 'similiar' instead of 'exact' might possible cause confusion. Apologies. My error is the exact error. It that better?
As to that thread you posted, it is for a completely different issue. I wonder, did you even read it?

EDIT: I ended up manually updating the driver, downloading the newest driver from the MSI website. I went to the Killer NIC website and they actually had an older driver posted for the NIC in my MB. I'm unsure if its a bug in Live Update that is doesn't scan or this device/driver, or if it was not meant to.
Most of the issues seem to be resolved, but since this was only a few hours ago, I refuse to believe that they are resolved.

  • B85m gaming killer nic not gigabit

    Hi,
I understand by searching that there are varied issues with the Killer e2200 nic.  I have a couple of issues but the most important is that I am unable to get gigabit speed from the nic.  I am running Win7 x64 and have tried several suggestions to solve my issue but am unable to.  I first noticed the issue running a backup and even my auto sensing switch shows a 10/100 connection.
    Things I have tried:

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for my issues getting my question posted.

    what router you are using?
I am using an older Trendnet TEG-S80TXE Gb switch connected to a Netgear R7000.  I get the same results plugging into the Trendnet or the Netgear.

list all killer driver versions that you've tried
-I have tried the most current suite listed here under my motherboard which is 1.50.1073 and the newest suite on killer's site 1.51.1426  i believe they are the same driver though.  The .inf says DriverVer 8.1.0.23.
-Drivers alone I have tried 8.0.2.42, 8.1.0.23 from the sticky, and a Qualcomm Atheros AR81Family driver version 2.1.0.21
-I uninstall from control panel and run KillerCleaner between attempts.  Killer Cleaner doesn't seem to remove the suite software.

you are in some kind of error, 1.0 Gbps is never listed there, only 10/100.
Auto [default] should bring you 1.0 Gbps speed if supported
This was not the case in my old Windows XP machine or other Windows 7 computers with Gb nics that I have looked at.  Auto Negotiation is defaulted but 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex is listed under Speed & Duplex in device manager on those machines but is not listed on my b85m killer nic.

  • Z97 gaming 5 - A2 and 9C

    Hi,
I have read some topics about it, but want to double check. While PC is booting, these codes flashes one by one on screen (lower right corner) and on led which is on MoBo. But it doesn't stay on it , just short flash.
So is it OK (its doing some kind of checking) or it is sign that something wrong in system?
    My PC specs:
    Z97 Gaming 5
    Gtx970 gigabyte G1
    I5 4690k
    SSD samsung Evo
    HDD WD black
    PSU CM V850
    Thanks.

So yesterday I installed my PC parts again - re-connected cables to PSU/PC components, made HDD/SSD re-connections, changed CMOS battery to new. I left the fan splitt'er connected for now.
For first day no restarts, all good. Will monitor further. Some observations made:
    - PSU connection to mobo power (20+4 pin) - it seemed that it was loose in PSU side, but maybe I pulled it when taking out other connections.
    - other parts seemed to be installed correctly. I made one change just in case - my HDD and SSD was connected with same power cable, I split them by adding one more cable to PSU to separate them.
After start, configured BIOS (as it was reset by changing battery), then booted to windows normally.
After idea came just to check do I have latest drivers from MoBo side - so I ran MSI update Live 6, which was crashing each time I tried to scan. So I went to MoBo page, downloaded latest drivers and installed all drivers - some of them was latest with no need to install.
    Some strange observations:
    - I uninstalled Intel USB 3.0 intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller - it was getting me errors while installing/updating, and I read in some forums that these drivers can cause issues (bsod and stuff like that). My USB devices works after, no issues after uninstall.
    - I was installing Intel Management Engine Driver+Microsoft hotfix driver - and it showed me that i have newer version - but I didn't (I had 10.0.30 and in support web it is 10.0.31 update). So I went ahead with installation of downloaded driver, even if OS thought I have newer version.
    - and last and most interesting one - after installing one of the drivers (don't remember which one exactly) - popup window opened with information that my SSD drive is installed successfully (like it happens when you plug new device).... and here is my OS... so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the cause.
Still, I will go ahead with Win 8.1 upgrade, and we'll see if issue still here.

  • New Z97 Gaming AC board and MSI gtx780

    All,
Been banging my head against the wall all night on this. Hopefully its something easy. Got my new rig assembled:
    I5 4670k
    MSI Z97-Gaming 9 AC LGA 1150 Intel Z97
    MSI Gaming N780 TF 3GD5/OC GeForce GTX 780 3GB
Have a M.2 intel SSD installed
Windows 8.1 64 installed no issues
For the life of me, I can not get the motherboard to detect the 780, I updated to the latest bios using the USB flash utility, no issues. Completed successfully.
Using the Board viewer it shows nothing in the PCIE slot, I have also tried SLOT 2 still no luck.
The MB still does not show anything inserted into the slot.
    Any suggestions would greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance

Well, wish I had good news, but not so much. With everything setup on a test bench the board wont even post with a card plugged into the PCIE slot. Remove the card post, and into the bios every time. Tried clearing CMOS, all 3 PCIE slots just a no go.
RMA is issued and it will be going back  tomorrow.
*Fingers crossed on the new board*
Thanks for all the suggestions, will let you know what happens when the new board arrives.
    Cheers
